Blind puppy needs life-saving surgery

A blind Chihuahua puppy abandoned at a Boston supermarket is preparing for brain surgery to save its life.

Angell Animal Medical Center officials said Tuesday that the 8-month-old dog, named Jonah, is suffering from a severe case of hydrocephalus, or "water on the brain." Without surgery scheduled this week to drain the excess fluid, Angell staff neurologist Andrew Farabaugh said the puppy will die.

Farabaugh said successful surgery means Jonah will be able to enjoy a good quality of life, but likely will remain blind.

Jonah was found abandoned in September at the bottle recycling center of a Boston Stop & Shop.

Angell officials say the hospital is seeking donations to pay the cost of the surgery estimated at $2,500.

everyone? on 3... awwwwwww.

Now think about how much vet services (spay, neuter, and other) could be provided if these resources were directed.

Health care rationing applies to animals too.

Before you send money to Boston send a check to your LOCAL shelter.

Regardless of how you feel about animals, people could learn a lot from them.
They don't judge you, they just love you no matter what you do to them.

Everyone on 3 indeed.

How do I donate to help this little guy? Is he up for adoption?

About Jill Rosen
Jill Rosen is a reporter at The Baltimore Sun. During her nearly 20 years in journalism, she has covered news and features — including a surprising number of stories that involved animals. There were the dog Christmas carolers in State College, Pa. There were the hounds who toured with a production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The story of a preschool teacher at Baltimore’s Father Kolbe School who had to replace her class guinea pig, who died over the winter holiday. A harrowing tale of what it was like to make homemade pet food ...

Though her clean freak of a mother refused to allow her to get a dog, she has had a number of pets through the years, including goldfish named Bob and Fingle, a betta fish named Ichabod, a wild rat terrier named Wendel, who she shared with a roommate, and, currently, sweet, sweet kitties named Leo Sesame and Milo Pumpkin and a little rescued pup named Teddy Bean. She, Leo, Pumpkin and Teddy Bean live in Baltimore.
