Ready to be Collared: Hughey

NAME: Hughey.

OWNER: Scott Eggleston, Bonnie Hurwitz.

HOW THEY MET: I’m fostering him for Adopt a Homeless Animal Rescue.

AGE: 3-ish.

HOME:  Baltimore.

BREED: American Pitbull Terrier/Boxer.

BEST TRICK: Likes to kiss children.

FAVORITE ACTIVITY: Wrestling with my Amstaff Faith.

FAVORITE FOOD: Anything even resembling food.

FUNNIEST MOMENT: He climbed up in a friends lap, rested his head on her chest and sighed.

EAGER TO PLEASE: His kennel life has made him a little fearful of overactive dogs and he cowers if I make sudden moves or raise my arms too quickly. These could be signs of abuse in his past. If you are gentle but consistent with training he responds quickly and well. He wants to be close to you all the time and just wants to please.

He is about 63 pounds and neutered. He has a very sweet disposition with people and just wants to please. He has spent the last two years in various kennels around Maryland. He’s cautious around new dogs but will warm up quickly. He gets along beautifully with my Amstaff Faith. He will make a wonderful affectionate addition to any family.

IF HUGHEY HAD A MOTTO FOR LIFE, IT WOULD BE: Gotta love me.

What a pretty boy! I hope he finds a wonderful home. Thank you for fostering this guy and good luck!

I guess Hughey thinks he's a lap dog - sweet thing. Scott and Bonnie must be very special people to foster him . . . I hope someone will adopt him for a forever home soon.

About Jill Rosen
Jill Rosen is a reporter at The Baltimore Sun. During her nearly 20 years in journalism, she has covered news and features — including a surprising number of stories that involved animals. There were the dog Christmas carolers in State College, Pa. There were the hounds who toured with a production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The story of a preschool teacher at Baltimore’s Father Kolbe School who had to replace her class guinea pig, who died over the winter holiday. A harrowing tale of what it was like to make homemade pet food ...

Though her clean freak of a mother refused to allow her to get a dog, she has had a number of pets through the years, including goldfish named Bob and Fingle, a betta fish named Ichabod, a wild rat terrier named Wendel, who she shared with a roommate, and, currently, sweet, sweet kitties named Leo Sesame and Milo Pumpkin and a little rescued pup named Teddy Bean. She, Leo, Pumpkin and Teddy Bean live in Baltimore.
