Collared today: Twinkie

NAME: Twinkie.

OWNER: Peter. (Who also owns Nittany.)

HOW THEY MET: Twinkie was found as a kitten in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and was originally my sister’s cat. My grandmother who suffered from Alzheimer’s fed her a lot from the table and Twinkie put on a lot of weight. She came to stay with me in Virginia for a few months for a “fat camp” and she and my kitten Achilles got along so well, that my sister said I could keep her.

AGE: 6.

HOME
: Baltimore.

BREED: American Shorthair.

BEST TRICK: Sitting up and begging for treats, particularly Feline Greenies.

FAVORITE ACTIVITY: Playing in sheets and laundry while clothes are being folded.

FAVORITE FOOD: Everything. Twinkie will eat any human food including salad, cheese, bacon… you name it. She is particularly found of chicken.

FUNNIEST MOMENT: Catching her eating cherry pie filling right off the plate.  She looked up after being caught, took two quick licks and then ran off.

BIG PURR: Has a little bit of a Jekyll/Hyde personality but that is because she suffers from feline hyperesthesia. But overall very sweet and a heavy purring cat.

IF TWINKIE HAD A MOTTO FOR LIFE, IT WOULD BE: “Eat first, breathe second.”

Twinkie looks just like one - what a great name for her! Great photo!

Awww, Twinkie sounds like a great cat! I must say, from the sound of her motto, we probably have a lot in common!

It's true that Twinkie will eat anything. I have seen her steal breakfast sausage off of a plate, shredded wheat from a bowl and even lettuce. She is beautiful and a little nutty. :)

About Jill Rosen
Jill Rosen is a reporter at The Baltimore Sun. During her nearly 20 years in journalism, she has covered news and features — including a surprising number of stories that involved animals. There were the dog Christmas carolers in State College, Pa. There were the hounds who toured with a production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The story of a preschool teacher at Baltimore’s Father Kolbe School who had to replace her class guinea pig, who died over the winter holiday. A harrowing tale of what it was like to make homemade pet food ...

Though her clean freak of a mother refused to allow her to get a dog, she has had a number of pets through the years, including goldfish named Bob and Fingle, a betta fish named Ichabod, a wild rat terrier named Wendel, who she shared with a roommate, and, currently, sweet, sweet kitties named Leo Sesame and Milo Pumpkin and a little rescued pup named Teddy Bean. She, Leo, Pumpkin and Teddy Bean live in Baltimore.
