Tax deduction for pet care?!?
An Unleashed reader brought this to my attenion: A Michigan lawmaker has proposed a $3,500 tax deduction for pet care. How great would that be?!?!?!
U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, R-Mich., recently introduced a bill known as the HAPPY Act. House Resolution 3501, or the Humanity and Pets Partnered Through the Years, would amend the Internal Revenue Code to allow an individual to deduct up to $3,500 for “qualified pet care expenses.”
Not surprisingly, the pet care industry thinks the bill is the greatest thing ever.

Who with pets wouldn't want this???

Sounds great! Any word on when I'll be able to get a tax break for qualified expenses related to male pattern baldness?

I think this is a good idea. I already have pet health insurance for my dog, why not this. It would really help out with vet bills.

It could be nice, or it could be another way for vets to take advantage of people's emotions into charging more for pet health care. I've had too many friends who have been taken advantage of and talked into needless medical procedures on elderly pets (especially cats) only to have them pass away no less than a few months (and tens of hundreds of dollars) later. I can just see it now...
"Well, it's an expensive surgery, but you can just deduct our expenses from your taxes. You don't want your little angle to die, do you???"
