Dog in 'America's Got Talent' Finals

Wow. America might have talent, but it seems at least one dog has more than some people.
A springy pup named Rory who can do wonders with a Frisbee has made it to the finals of "America's Got Talent."
Judge Piers Morgan said if the dog made it that far and not a piano-playing singer, it would be "the biggest scandal" in the history of the show. So, I guess it is. I wonder what Rory will buy with $1 million. That's a lot of Milkbones.
Judge Sharon Osbourne, however, called Rory's performance "brilliant."

Comments
I like dogs but in no way was the performance up to a million dollar standard. The decision was indeed a disgrace.

I totally agree with Piers. I still can't figure out who is the one with the talent the guy or the dog? the guy can't even throw the frisbee well and isn't this show for humans? Letterman has stupid pet tricks for the record.
Posted by: Vince | August 13, 2009 10:28 AM
I had to change the channel when the dog won. The show went from relatively interesting to ridiculously stupid in one vote. By the way - all Springer Spaniels do this - it's how they got their name. Nothing unique in that act, and certainly nothing I would pay to see in Las Vegas.
Posted by: Nancy H | August 13, 2009 10:42 AM
What a cheesy way to get ratings. Sharon is not even a good actor, even she didn't believe the dog should go through
Posted by: Lyn | August 13, 2009 11:02 AM
America's Got Talent should be embarrased that they even showed that on TV. Charles DeWayne was so talented it is not even funny. To think that Sharon would do something so stupid as throw a dog in over a singer is so stupid. Piers is the only one on the judge panel with any sence at all!
Posted by: Thano | August 13, 2009 11:26 AM
Shame on Sharon. Frisbee dogs are common on beaches and parks in the US. Nothing brilliant at all, and her owner can't toss accurately. You turned away a talented man who trained for many years, and IS brilliant for a dog that can catch - sometimes.
Posted by: Sanity | August 13, 2009 11:31 AM
I can't believe this. I love dogs but Rory could never hold an audiance in Las Vegas. Charles DeWayne got shafted.
Just shows what an idiot Sharon is.
Posted by: Barbara | August 13, 2009 11:53 AM
It was a total fix. I can not believe that for ratings they had to kill Charle's dream. Who would pay to see a dog catching frisbees, we can see that in the park anyday. It just shows you that Sharon and David do not know what talent is. Maybe they need two new judges that know talent like Piers
Posted by: Tim | August 13, 2009 12:09 PM
I could not believe it when Sharon and the Hoff picked the dog act. That is nothing special. I felt bad for Charles. He is so talented and to have two judges out of three pick a dog. Come on now. Simon Cowell...where are U. You should be able to do something about this. Piers is the only one with any common sense. I hop Charles gets a recording contract somewhere.
Posted by: Janet | August 13, 2009 12:34 PM
What a joke... don't get me wrong, I thought the dog was cute when he performed originally, but even then said that as cute as he was, I wouldn't pay to see the act in Vegas. Then this week the performance was absolutely horrible.. and then he was picked over Charles. What a shame. Sharon and David, you should be ashamed of yourselves. I can't even imagine what Charles must be feeling... to have the dog act picked over him. I hope he has lots of confidence as that would surely bust mine. I hope there was a true talent scout amongst the viewers or audience and that they snag Charles up. He I would pay to see! I mean.. come on, did you even watch Tony's reaction when he was chosen? Even he wasn't buying it!! This was done for one reason and one reason only. RATINGS! Because he sure in the devil doesn't have a prayer of winning this competiton.
Disgusted in NY

I believe Rory is an Australian shepherd, not a springer spaniel. I have both.
Posted by: Suzanne G Fox | August 13, 2009 12:44 PM
I still am trying to understand what happend there. Was it a set up for ratings or is Sharon & david really that stupid?? Charles DeWayne SHOULD HAVE WON. What a shame. Piers should hook him up with his friends in the recording business.
Posted by: Denise Marsh | August 13, 2009 12:50 PM
it's totally a joke choing a dog over a real telant. NBC will lose a lot of viewers for this idiotic act.
Posted by: madword | August 13, 2009 12:58 PM
Ooh, call me cynical but, this felt like a set up to garner media attention.
Piers threw down the "disgrace" gauntlet before Sharon had cast her vote I think, to challenge her to disagree with him and therefore making an otherwise predictable episode less, well, predictable.
The public voted them 5th and 6th place. Maybe the producers thought it would be too boring and predictable for the audience if the act in 5th place in number of votes takes the 5th spot. Or perhaps they wanted to keep the judges involved now that the real judging is over. Maybe Simon will call back Charles DeWayne like some others that were rejected. I liked Rory the dog but I agree it's not at the Million Dollar Vegas Act level but we aren't at the finals yet so does it really matter?
Posted by: Beverly | August 13, 2009 1:32 PM
I was part of the live audience last night, and almost the entire studio audience was stunned by Charle's lost to Rory. It was unbeleivable.
Posted by: Digusted | August 13, 2009 2:09 PM
To the person who obviously knows little about dogs: Rory is NOT a springer spaniel. Doesn't look much like one at all. And springer spaniels got that name because they were bred to "spring" (flush) game from hiding, to help their owners hunt.
Educate yourself before you post in future, or your comments will have to be corrected yet again.
Plenty of dogs can do what Rory did. OTOH, I thought the singer was pretty average. Plus, they already have lots of musical acts. I'll take the dog over yet more singing.
Posted by: Lisa | August 13, 2009 2:25 PM
I guess I'm in the minority, but I was happy to see Rory chosen over Charles DeWayne - he was a mediocre singer at best, and we already have a Stevie Wonder in the music business. He wasn't unique....Rory and Hoard are, even if they don't win the whole show.
Posted by: Laura | August 13, 2009 2:26 PM
I wasn't shocked by last nights decision, even though the choice was so wrong. I think the Judges choice has been bad the last two weeks. The first week just wasn't as glaring.
Posted by: Floyd Williams | August 13, 2009 2:40 PM
I think that AGT has lost it's glamour for me. They let go the most amazing voices and talents this season for the poorest of selections. This was the worst. How many Hip Hop dancers are we going to have. What happened to that awesome 8 year Spanish child that sang like an angel? Or the cancer survivor who has the most amazing opera voice? The dog Rory is cool I love dogs, I have one myself, but what an insult to a true artist is that. What the heck is everyone drinking? Morgan is right! This was a total disater for the finals and lets not talk of the 40.

I am dissapointed with the Sharon and David's decision. Charles was outstanding act. I will stop watching the show,,,,,,,,,,,,
Posted by: Salman Fazal | August 13, 2009 3:10 PM
After last nite show, I suggest that we leave the Fifth Choce Winner up to the viewer voting, since Sharon & Huf don't know good talent when it's before their eyes.....I would like to know the Fifth & Sixth winners by Votes. I'll bet you won't show these results..
Posted by: RON "O" | August 13, 2009 3:16 PM
I predict that Charles will be brought back by overwhelming demand by America and they knew that from the start. I love animals and Rory is cute and I am sure Tony is nice but this was obviously a stunt. I have one thing against Piers and that is you never ever, ever decide what a person will be able to do for a future career at the age of nine. It is damaging. Nobody knows how that little girl's voice will change with coaching and hormones. Words have power. Even if it doesn't Ethel Merman and others make great livings with unusual singing voices.
Posted by: Toni | August 13, 2009 3:57 PM
WHAT A FARCE!
To have the dog continue on over Charles, get real.
Piers Morgan is the only judge that says it like it is.
The judges are always saying "this is serious" or "million dollar prize". Practice what you preach.
For the two judges that voted the dog through, perhaps they should open a circus if they want Americans to pay to see a dog jump around. Maybe they could join it as well.
Posted by: D Tozer | August 13, 2009 4:10 PM
Once again Sharon and David have proven how stupid they truly are! My daughter and I predicted all five acts we thought were going through and never in a million years would have guessed Rory over Charles. Terrible ratings ploy that makes those two judges appear even dumber than they truly are. You've lost a lot of viewers because of this and I hope you';; rethink your decision. How about thinking with your brains instead of other parts of your anatomy???
Posted by: Maria Cholach | August 13, 2009 4:21 PM
Yes I agree with all the above posts. Shame on AGT. They are worst than politicians. AGT is a show of people, for the people and by the people. I don't understand why Judges need to decide who goes forward and who stay behind. Is 2 persons vote more important than millions of american peoples vote? Why do we waste our time every week watching and vote for AGT contestants if in the end the our votes have no weight.
Posted by: Julie | August 13, 2009 4:30 PM
Me again. I'm wondering if they chose a variety act (Rory and Tony) over Charles DeWayne, the singer, only because this is "America's Got Talent" not "American Idol" and the judges have been mandated to limit the number of singers let through to the finals. This might explain why the judges sent so many talented singers home already.
Posted by: Beverly | August 13, 2009 4:57 PM
The Hoff and Sharon are out of their minds voting for the the dog act. They really blew their credibility with me. This was a no brainer and I guess they don't have a brain.
Posted by: Jean Sheehan | August 13, 2009 5:17 PM
I can't beleive all of you have fallen for this :-) This was a judge "choice" between the #5 vote getter and the #6 vote getter, and I bet Sharon only affirmed the direction that the Votes cast had taken.
Regardless, there will no doubt be two wildcard slots going into the Semi finals, and Charles DeWayne will get one of them. With luck, he may have learned a lesson or two about taking it up a few levels. else, he's gonna get beaten by a dog not once, but twice :-)
Posted by: E.D | August 13, 2009 5:40 PM
Don't you guys get it ~ the show is rigged! Sharon knew she had to pick the dog but didn't have the guts or the ability to keep a straight face in the beginning and tossed the hot potato to David. Charles, you were a pawn and I'd pay to see you! Keep pursuing your dream ...
Posted by: Debra | August 13, 2009 5:42 PM
I am so disappointed in Sharon and David. I would have never in my wildest imagination thought they would pick a pup over a talented singer and piano player. I would be embarrassed. I just think it was a VERY bad decisio. Sorry.
Posted by: Sharon Myers | August 13, 2009 6:17 PM
Yeah, the guy was a good singer but I am sooo tired of singers! If he wants to be a singer then he needs to audition for American Idol. The person who said, "all Springer Spaniels do that" made me laugh. Okay, if you can go find you a Springer Spaniel who hasn't been trained and can do that exact same act that was on Wed night, I will give you a million dollars. lol. Training a dog to do those things is time consuming and hard work..
Posted by: Kerstee | August 13, 2009 6:17 PM
Charles Dewanye isn't that good of a singer and he came off a little cocky when he said " I'm just extremely thankful to be sharing my god given gift to the world" it's like dude, whatever. His voice is mediocre at best.
The dog catching frisbees was a better act . Though it was god awful during the semi-final when Rory couldn't catch a single frisbee thrown at him but I blame that on the owner. Is it Las Vegas worthy though? Not really. Maybe sea world worthy.
I think Sharon just couldn't say no to Rory can't blame her he's a cute little dog even though he should have been sent back to the dog house. I really didn't expect them to vote this way..
Posted by: reality distorted | August 13, 2009 6:21 PM
Look at the T.V. show piers whispered to sharon "don't do it" and to go against what she was suppose to do according to the card that was laying in front of her and then piers was tapping on the table to get david not to vote for the dog that is why when it came back to piers he said that if charles dewayne is not going to the next level this is all rigid and that it was because if you go back to tuesday night airing sharon and david said that he will be going to the next level and to bring the tempo up some, but you know what everything happens for a reason and only God knows what is going on, yeah it shocked charles dewayne to the fullest and was a very embarrassing sight to see but he is good for he knows that he is a very talented young man and is going to go very far in his career, for the number one thing he has great support and God is on his side thanks for all the supporters.

I feel Eleisha Miller, with an "e" (lol) should've advanced.
Posted by: Mark | August 13, 2009 7:18 PM
I will no longer watch your show after the dog won over the singer when Sharon Osborne give her vote. I told my wife i cannot handle the show anymore. Piers might appear to be smug but he is the only won qualified to reconize talent.
Posted by: Richard Ledbetter | August 13, 2009 7:57 PM
The night before wednesdays show sharon told charles that he needed to pick a faster type of song if he came back and she said he would because he was very good.then she voted him off the next show so this is clearly a scandal and no one should feel safe no matter how good they are and sharon and david have no buisness being on that show as judges.I respected sharons opinions till last night.
Posted by: Linda | August 13, 2009 8:06 PM
Well I am in shock, the dog was cute, the singer was good neither Las Vegas material. But I would have no problem hearing Charles perform again, I will not watch Rory one more time catching frizbees. Im done with the show, this was a huge error in judgment.
Posted by: carlene rivas | August 13, 2009 8:25 PM
There are dogs in my neighborhood that catch fresbies better then Rory and Charles and I would only watch then for a few minutes. Can't believe Sharon and David H. picked them over Charles. He is a fantasic singer and should be allowed back on the show. Dog lover or not, Sharon was wrong. Bad, bad decision. Makes me wonder what direction this show is going!!!
Posted by: Carol | August 13, 2009 8:26 PM
I was stunned. How could David and Sharon choose an awful dog act over a great singer? Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: LINDA | August 13, 2009 8:34 PM
I will no longer watch AGT. There is no way a dog, whether cute or not, wins over a champion singer like Charles DeWayne. Someone needs to ask Sharon & David how would they like it if an animal was chosen over them. Then it would be easier, since any animal would have more talent than they do. Thank you Pierce. The results have to be very humilating to Charles. The show owes him an apology. Maybe Simon, as producer will again override the goof ups the judges have made.
Posted by: Dee | August 13, 2009 9:01 PM
To me what has happened is just a result of the fight between the judges. Sharon and Hoff admire each other and they really dislike Piers, mostly because he is kind of harsh to the contestants. Not long time ago Hoff threatened to head butt Piers in a case of voting regarding a couple, magicians who lost everything during the current recession (in this case it was Hoff who voted against them). Some time ago Sharon called Piers a talentless, Simon Cowell-wannabe idiot. It looks to me that Piers is rather in favor of singers over anything else. Maybe knowing Piers' intention Hoff voted the other way. I think though that Hoff just preferred the dog. He is sometimes unpredictable. At the end Sharon joined Hoff, just to go against Piers. Of course it is not fair because Charles DeWayne become a victim of this fight. I agree with the opinion that Piers is the only one on the judge panel with any sense at all! Sharon looks very sweet but she is worse than Hoff. Maybe not everybody knows that Osbourne was quoted in The Guardian newspaper on 9 December 2006 as having sent her own excrement in Tiffany boxes on more than one occasion to people she felt had unreasonably criticized her or her family. The other time she almost quit the show when she felt Piers judged a child contestant too harshly. Sharon and Hoff go against Piers. I have never seen Piers going against them. In my opinion Piers is not harsh. He just tries to be just and in majority of the cases he is right. He is the only one with a common sense. Sharon and Hoff act stupidly very often.
Posted by: henry bent | August 13, 2009 9:06 PM
I couldn't believe it either. The dog was a smart dog for sure, but catching Frisbees in no way compared to the talent Charles DeWayne has. Who would go and watch dog tricks for 90 minutes in Vegas?
Sharon just likes to play devil's advocate; at this point, the show is not about making sure all acts that make it further fit into diversified actegories; it's about who has the most talent and will be able to draw an audience in Vegas. This just turns me against watching the show, although I know I still will.
Posted by: Suzanne Jones | August 13, 2009 9:31 PM
The dog should have gone home for a bone along with last weeks mistake ArcadianBroad and bring back Charles and Thia.
Posted by: kenny | August 14, 2009 1:03 AM
Sharon Osbourne needs to be taken off the panel of judges. Who is she to judge someone's talent when she has absolutely NONE of her own. What is her talent anyway? Being a bitch married to an old burned out rocker? And Hoff....you wish you had talent. I hope that Charles gets a contract and rubs both your noses in it and then laughs in your face. I'm done with the show....
Posted by: Marsha | August 14, 2009 7:07 AM
Why do David and Sharon feel that they always have to be on the same side all the time. This goes to show you how much better Piers is at picking out the talented people and who is suffering....... Charles. I am ashamed of Sharon.
Posted by: Deb French | August 14, 2009 8:38 AM
My husband and I will not ever ever ever watch this show again. It is so obvious that all they want is ratings, and we're not going to be part of that.

I WAS VERY UPSET WHEN THEY PICKED THE DOG OVER THE SINGER CHARLES. HE WAS GOOD LOOKING,THAT WAS A SHOCK EVAN TO THE ROY,HE COULDEN BELIEVE IT.I THINK IT HURT THE SNOW.
Posted by: heidi 36 | August 14, 2009 3:12 PM
I think it's hilarious that you all are so upset that you had to come on here and whine about it. The show got exactly what it wanted--publicity...from you! For the record, the dog was better than the singer. What a yawn. Go on American Idol. I don't watch America's Got Talent to watch American Idol rejects.
Posted by: Kiki Lou | August 14, 2009 10:03 PM
Just one more person stunned by losing Charles D. over a no-talent human that has a frisbee catching dog. Unbelievable, to say the least. For what it's worth, you lost another fan. Do you care, NBC? Get another panel of talent recognizers, fast!
Posted by: E M T | August 15, 2009 12:39 AM
THE CONTEST IS RIGGED! The reason the dog was chosen over the singer is because of course they will be eliminated in the next round. Sharon and David are looking for a win either from the Tenors, or the irish dancers! Charles would pose a threat had they put him through! I used to like the show, but now I don't want to watch because of the obvious bias.

greetings from a canadan who loved agt--until last show-what were sharon and david thinking of????my labrador can catch frizbees better than rory did last week..i will never watch agt again!!! what a farce to really good talent such as charles-can sharon and david possibly comprehend what they have done to this talented man???
Posted by: sue sauve | August 16, 2009 1:17 PM
Hi, I would just like to say, the dog truly shone a light on us. He is kind bright and obviously has talent. As for those upset about Charles his talent will see him through, just like the dogs talent got him where he is "I believe they call it HARD WORK" I enjoy AGT it is an enjoyable past time from my hard work. When you look at all what is on TV it is nice to see us singing ,dancing, catching frisebee's, hell of a lot better then crime scene shows, rape shows, pedifile shows and the list goes on. I am so fed up with seeing the "This show is not suitable for young children..this show may contain voilence, sex, discrimination and on and on and we wonder where our kids get all this depressed voilent knowledge. Bring on your America's got talent shows and bring back Johnny Carson shows and Get Smart and Lassie, clean up TV
Posted by: Keep to myself | August 16, 2009 4:59 PM
I don't think Charles would have been the final winner, by any means. But, for have anyone to have lost to a frisbee catching dog, that cannot even catch frisbees...please. The"loser" would have to be so "ripped" of any belief they should ever perform again. Hoff's vote was no surprise, but Sharon...shame on you. How can viewers believe these fools gave us the best forty, to begin with? Too many real folk's futures depend on, maybe just the exposure they may get, in the beginning rounds...for them to use their vote for shock TV. I am done watching.
Posted by: Michelle | August 17, 2009 12:21 AM
Sharon and David finally got it right, That's one of the best performances America's got talent ever had, I did some research and it turns out that the australian shepard and Tony were the 2008 Skyhoundz World Champions in Chatanooga TN. last year.. To those skeptics, it's not as easy as it looks.. A lot harder than singing a song!
Posted by: Jimmy | August 17, 2009 12:15 PM
Can't believe that anyone would pick the dog show over Charles DeWayne. He really has talent. Dog show may be ok for a school audiance, but Las Vegas. I DON'T THINK SO
Posted by: Ruby | August 19, 2009 9:41 AM
I watched the show and I don't really see what all the hype is on Charles DeWayne he can sing but he isn't the best singer on the show and atleast with Roy & his dog it is something different then all the other acts. There are alot of great acts that were voted off or America didn't vote for but everyone is intitled to their own opinion - it is still a free country so if you don't like the show then don't watch it.
Posted by: gina | August 19, 2009 4:53 PM
Please. All you people whining about Charles getting booted are the reason this show always ends up boring. SINGERS!! SINGERS!!! LET'S VOTE FOR THE SINGERS!!11!1!
There are so many interesting acts, and all America does is vote for the stupid singers, most of whom can't sing well.

this comment is not about last night show but just fyi
you remember Kari Callim great voice but not good looking. Simon is paying a lot of money to plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills to make her beatiful so she can come back next year to AGT and win the the millions dollars.
