More pets on parade at AVAM

From guest poster Mary Corey:

If there's one thing that will bring a former pets blogger back into the fold, it's the American Visionary Art Museum's pet parade. The July 4th event had hoot written all over it. Jill gave you the scoop on the day and took plenty of pictures. But I couldn't resist sharing some of my favorites.

The real treat is that Felicia Savage, whose adorable Lexicon has been featured on the blog, has sent in her best shots. You last saw her photos during the Maryland SPCA's March for the Animals. (Thanks, Felicia! Please keep 'em coming.)

Now it's your turn. We saw many cameras in the crowd. If you have pictures from this year's pet parade, please send them here.

Mary - good to see a guest post from you. The parade looks like it was a hoot indeed - fun photos! Great outfits and smiles all around. Sorry I missed it.

Icy looks like he is smiling. I met him at the event and his personality matched that adorable face!

Jamie, Hi. I agree. His nickname should be Mr. Cheerful. Thanks, MC

So many adorable dogs! I must say that I adore Tensing's outfit--tres chic. Although from personal experience, I'd have to note that Snowball looks much cuter in a polo--just a statement of fact.

What a great event. But next year let's require all the owners to wear matching outfits like Enzo's companion. It adds a certain doggy dignity.

Peter - There was an award for the person who resembles their pet the most. Also this was not just for dogs, there was a kitten, a fish, a firefly and two stuffed animals. Did you hear that we played musical chairs with our pets?

About Jill Rosen
Jill Rosen is a reporter at The Baltimore Sun. During her nearly 20 years in journalism, she has covered news and features — including a surprising number of stories that involved animals. There were the dog Christmas carolers in State College, Pa. There were the hounds who toured with a production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The story of a preschool teacher at Baltimore’s Father Kolbe School who had to replace her class guinea pig, who died over the winter holiday. A harrowing tale of what it was like to make homemade pet food ...

Though her clean freak of a mother refused to allow her to get a dog, she has had a number of pets through the years, including goldfish named Bob and Fingle, a betta fish named Ichabod, a wild rat terrier named Wendel, who she shared with a roommate, and, currently, sweet, sweet kitties named Leo Sesame and Milo Pumpkin and a little rescued pup named Teddy Bean. She, Leo, Pumpkin and Teddy Bean live in Baltimore.
