He waits in American Idol audition line. His dog dies in the car.

This is about as disgusting as it gets.

According to the Denver Post, a guy let his dog die in a hot car while waiting with his girlfriend who was in the long line to audition for American Idol.

The small terrier died in the hot car, where Quincy Vanderbilt, 24, left the windows up on a day that reached 91 degrees, the paper reported.

The two got to Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium in the morning. By 2 p.m., the first time Vanderbilt bothered to check on the dog, the terrier was dead.

The guy got a misdemeanor summons for animal cruelty.

What a waste of space that guy is. Usually I try to have something more erudite or compassionate to say, but not today.

I'm sorry...but someone needs to lock people that do that in a car with no air for hours at a time, let's see how they like that!.......

It would have been better to leave the dog at home inside with a bowl of food and water and a paper. Don't understand people's way of thinking or lack of. I love my pets.

"The guy got a misdemeanor summons for animal cruelty."

That's simply not enough. Irresponsible or unloving pet owners should be adequately punished for despicable behavior.

At this point I think everyone knows not to leave animals, small children - anyone in the sealed car on a blistering day.

I'm sorry but that was dumb! He needs to get locked up! You do not need to leave a dog in a hot car for hours at a time! They should have knew that the dog was going to get hurt! Then he just left the poor dog in the hot car just for dumb girlfriend to go sing! What if the girl could not even ing they let there poor dog die and it was not even the dog's fault it was the man and his girlfriend's fault! Why did they even bring the dog in the first place that was very dumb!

Thanks for sharing this horrific story. Hopefully Baltimore Sun readers will take heed.

Sadly, this kind of tragedy happens all the time. Every year, dogs die after being locked inside cars while their owners shop or run other errands.

When it’s 85 degrees out, the temperature inside a car — even with the windows left open — can soar to 102 degrees in 10 minutes and 120 degrees in half an hour. Outside temperatures in the 70s can be dangerous, too.

A dog’s normal body temperature ranges from 101 to 102.5 degrees. Dogs can withstand a body temperature of 107 to 108 degrees for only a short time before suffering organ failure, brain and nerve damage — or even death. If you see an animal in distress inside a vehicle, call your local animal control agency, police department or humane society right away.

The My Dog is Cool Campaign operated by United Animal Nations lets people know that leaving a dog in a car for even “just a few minutes” may be too long.

I am always amazed when I read about people who leave their pets or children in a car on a hot day. How does one do that?!

Considering that my dog gets hot just when we're out walking in the summer, it doesn't take too much of a leap of intelligence (or sense) to realize that a car, which is a confined environment, is going to be even hotter, even with open windows. There have been enough stories on the news about such situations that people should probably get it by now (in case they aren't able to figure it out on their own).

I think this guy should have to sit in a hot car for a few hours as punishment.

This is truly disgusting. I wonder how he would like if it was trapped in a box while the heat slowly rised until he died.

People like this should not be allowed to be around children or animals for the rest of their lives. Don't own any pets, never have children, don't go to schools, zoos or parks, etc.

What a disgusting person. Unfortunately, I'm sure the law will only make him pay a fine. He should be locked up in a hot cell for the rest of his life.

That poor dog..

This is nuts I think the courts don't take this serious enough the animals are the victums and this happens way to often but I can't say the other people that walked past that car are any better those people that walked past the car are accessories in my mind and don't tell me they didn't have cell phones I am outraged

The story of a preschool teacher at Baltimore’s Father Kolbe School who had to replace her class guinea pig, who died over the winter holiday. A harrowing tale of what it was like to make homemade pet food ...
