Leo warns fellow kitties to beware water, cameras

This is a public service message from Leo:

Leo, my sweetycat, alerted me to news that he finds most disturbing -- apparently, according to ABC News, there's a trend of wet kitty photos sweeping the Internet. Really? Taking the web "by storm"? Seriously ABC?

Leo hid my camera and made me promise to research the matter and post this warning.

ABC claims that in a blossoming world of Internet cat photo sites, wet cat photos are by themselves becoming a sopping wet, certified thing. I know I've seen some wet kitties here and there, a shower shot or two, but really... this has reached national news level proportions?

ABC is scaring my Leo about this? I shall research and get back to you....

...Alright I finished reading the story. I suspect, after careful consideration and journalistic examination, the premise was merely an excuse to run some seriously funny wet kitty pictures on ABC's news site.

ABC also quotes a few famous kitty site managers talking about what they find so appealing about dripping, water-logged kitties.

"I think it's the closest you can see in the animal world to someone giving you the finger," said veterinarian Marty Becker, co-author of Why Do Cats Always Land on Their Feet? "That look is unique in the animal world of total disgust. ... It's just a classic."

Leo just gave Marty Becker the paw.

I'm the caretaker (or perhaps servant) of three of Leo's neighbors (Louie, Sam, and Ella). None of them think that picture is funny.

I'm not saying whether I do or not...

Leo appreciates the support of Louie, Sam and Ella. Hang tough -- and dry -- kittehs. -- jr

The wet kitties just look so miserable :( Sort of like our dog does when we try to wash her off after she's rolled in the mud. But we know enough not to break out the camera with 65 lbs of soaking pitbull squirming around.

About Jill Rosen
Jill Rosen is a reporter at The Baltimore Sun. During her nearly 20 years in journalism, she has covered news and features — including a surprising number of stories that involved animals. There were the dog Christmas carolers in State College, Pa. There were the hounds who toured with a production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The story of a preschool teacher at Baltimore’s Father Kolbe School who had to replace her class guinea pig, who died over the winter holiday. A harrowing tale of what it was like to make homemade pet food ...

Though her clean freak of a mother refused to allow her to get a dog, she has had a number of pets through the years, including goldfish named Bob and Fingle, a betta fish named Ichabod, a wild rat terrier named Wendel, who she shared with a roommate, and, currently, sweet, sweet kitties named Leo Sesame and Milo Pumpkin and a little rescued pup named Teddy Bean. She, Leo, Pumpkin and Teddy Bean live in Baltimore.
