More rescued puppy mill faces

Here's just two more of the ridiculously sweet puppies rescued this week from a puppy mill near Allentown. Eighteen of the pups are now at the Maryland SPCA, being nursed back to health and prepared for adoptions. More pictures to come. These by Sun photographer Tasha Treadwell.

Puppy mills are hideous places and its great to see blogs like this promoting the welfare of dogs that give us so much and take so little. Hopefully people will give more thought to looking for a good breeder before going to a mill! I have an article on my blog that allows owners to determine a good breeder.

There is a pet store here in Dover Pa (Glamorous Pooch) that is obtaining their pups from puppy mills and advertising that they are from reputable breeders, this place make sme sick and so many of there pups end up having health problems from what Ive been hearing..How is this legal and how can we stop this inhumane practice?

About Jill Rosen
Jill Rosen is a reporter at The Baltimore Sun. During her nearly 20 years in journalism, she has covered news and features — including a surprising number of stories that involved animals. There were the dog Christmas carolers in State College, Pa. There were the hounds who toured with a production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The story of a preschool teacher at Baltimore’s Father Kolbe School who had to replace her class guinea pig, who died over the winter holiday. A harrowing tale of what it was like to make homemade pet food ...

Though her clean freak of a mother refused to allow her to get a dog, she has had a number of pets through the years, including goldfish named Bob and Fingle, a betta fish named Ichabod, a wild rat terrier named Wendel, who she shared with a roommate, and, currently, sweet, sweet kitties named Leo Sesame and Milo Pumpkin and a little rescued pup named Teddy Bean. She, Leo, Pumpkin and Teddy Bean live in Baltimore.
