Animal House Friday: Famous pets of film, TV

I apologize for being a little late with Animal House Friday. I'm on assignment in Ocean City and there's an annoying lack of Wi-Fi. But I've made it to a Panera, mainly to log on and fulfill my Animal House duties.

So I was thinking about famous pets. If you had to choose an all-time favorite movie, commercial or TV -- or, why not, Broadway -- pet, which one would it be.

I always had a HUGE soft spot for Eddie, the Jack Russell terrier on Frazier. He was simply adorable. And what a natural actor!

Do you have a favorite? If so, why? Or, on the flip side, a pet that you could never quite stand?

Do you think your pet has star quality?

Let Unleashed know. Share your thoughts -- whatever they may be -- and be eligible for a fantabulous, amazing, glorious, prize, to be selected later this afternoon once I escape the cold, rainy beach.  I'll give you a little more time today since I posted so late....

Kelsey Grammer sits with cutie, Moose, who played his dad's dog, Eddie, on Frasier.

Beethoven or Hooch! Nobody can resist those adorable faces!

Petey from The Little Rascals has always been my favorite!

Having had my own bully breed dogs, I have a soft spot for how sweet they can be.

My personal favorite is Lad from Please Don't Eat the Daisies

The best animal actor was Mr. Ed. What a personality! Plus he could even drive a car (at least in one episode). Definitely a major talent!

My first furbaby, KC, a Cairn Terrier, has left me with a HUGE soft spot for the breed. As a result, i always loved, and continue to love, "Toto" from The Wizard of Oz. i still think Terry (who played "Toto") must have been the runt of her litter because neither KC or my current Cairn, Han, could ever fit into Dorothy's basket!!! i would break my arm trying to carry them that way =)

Favorite TV pet...Spot from Star Trek: The Next Generation. The scenes with Spot and Data were hysterical! Was Data training Spot or was Spot training Data? All cat lovers know the answer to this question. Favorite moment: Data's recitation of his poem, "Ode to Spot".

OH. My favorite from film and TV is Rin Tin Tin - the most noble and courageous guy.

Salem, from Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

Unlike all those dogs mentioned above, he could talk!

About Jill Rosen
Jill Rosen is a reporter at The Baltimore Sun. During her nearly 20 years in journalism, she has covered news and features — including a surprising number of stories that involved animals. There were the dog Christmas carolers in State College, Pa. There were the hounds who toured with a production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The story of a preschool teacher at Baltimore’s Father Kolbe School who had to replace her class guinea pig, who died over the winter holiday. A harrowing tale of what it was like to make homemade pet food ...

Though her clean freak of a mother refused to allow her to get a dog, she has had a number of pets through the years, including goldfish named Bob and Fingle, a betta fish named Ichabod, a wild rat terrier named Wendel, who she shared with a roommate, and, currently, sweet, sweet kitties named Leo Sesame and Milo Pumpkin and a little rescued pup named Teddy Bean. She, Leo, Pumpkin and Teddy Bean live in Baltimore.
