Octo-mom wants pets, too

As if she doesn't have enough to keep herself busy, Octo-mom Nadya Suleman is shopping around to add a four-legged member to her brood. According to US Weekly, the mother of 14 is thinking about a dog and maybe a pig.

"For a couple of years, the kids have been asking for a dog," Suleman told the magazine. "I've actually been looking into a pig, like a little one." She added that she'd like the pig to wear a diaper and live outside. Right.

PETA is apparently beside itself at the news.

"In today's uncertain economy -- and with all the demands that come with raising 14 children -- we urge you to reconsider adding two more dependents to your family," PETA's Michelle Cho wrote in a letter to Suleman, according to the magazine. "Like children, pigs and dogs are intelligent, social beings with complex needs. They require a lot of attention, space, and exercise as well as a huge financial commitment."

Oh dear god, No!!

Hopefully whatever pig breeder/farm rescue organization she visits will have a better screening process than that shameful fertility clinic.

I hope this story takes some heat off Paris Hilton.

Can Nadya be any more irresponsible? First of all, us taxpayers shouldn't be forking over money to pay for her nannies. She wanted that many children, well she should do the raising. And for not being able to properly provide for her children, how is she going to care and properly feed her pets? For once I actually agree with PETA, and trust me, I never agree with PETA. Nadya, stop being so greedy!

she wants a pig?!?! Why does she need another, she already has to live with herself

no one should allow this family to have a pet. the children would abuse the animal just as they abuse each other. there is a lack of supervision at that house and a new puppy or piglet needs as much attention as a new baby, let alone 8 new babies. letting any kind of pet into that house would be terrible. she doesn't need another mouth to feed. wouldn't the zoning laws in her area prohibit her from having a farm animal inside the town limits? i hope so.

This woman makes me ill. She's raising 14 kids on the public dole, and now she wants a pet too? What a selfish, greedy little snot.

This woman needs to be in a psychiatric ward.

WOW! Has the world really become this mean? The comments are very discouraging. We dont want to feed these children or let them have a pet but we give the banks, car companies and all round crooks, BILLIONS!!! We are so screwed up it's not even funny. Shame on us!!!!!!!!!!!

About Jill Rosen
Jill Rosen is a reporter at The Baltimore Sun. During her nearly 20 years in journalism, she has covered news and features — including a surprising number of stories that involved animals. There were the dog Christmas carolers in State College, Pa. There were the hounds who toured with a production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The story of a preschool teacher at Baltimore’s Father Kolbe School who had to replace her class guinea pig, who died over the winter holiday. A harrowing tale of what it was like to make homemade pet food ...

Though her clean freak of a mother refused to allow her to get a dog, she has had a number of pets through the years, including goldfish named Bob and Fingle, a betta fish named Ichabod, a wild rat terrier named Wendel, who she shared with a roommate, and, currently, sweet, sweet kitties named Leo Sesame and Milo Pumpkin and a little rescued pup named Teddy Bean. She, Leo, Pumpkin and Teddy Bean live in Baltimore.
