Bo Obama: Master of the house

The White House has released new photos of First Dog Bo Obama getting to know the West Wing. By the looks of things, the doggie seems to be bringing the nation's powerbrokers to heel. All photos were taken by White House Photographer Pete Souza.

White House Deputy Director of Oval Office Operations Brian Mosteller, maybe not so much a dog person, attempts to protect his shoes as he plays with Bo Obama in the Cabinet Room at the White House on April 21.

President Barack Obama plays with the first dog Bo on April 20 on the South Lawn of the White House.

Bo Obama heads into the Oval Office on April 15 for a strategic meeting with the president and his top advisers about treats.

Bo Obama takes the president for a walk on April 14 through the private residence of the White House.

Bo is the cutest doggie ever!

I dog sat a PWD once for a friend...it turns out, they like to be on top of things! Like the roof of the car when they are in the yard...like the diningroom table so he could look out of a window...They are alot of fun, but look out for unconventional behavior!

Fabulous. The one of Bo heading into the Oval Office looks like one of those magazine features where readers are asked to write a caption.

It looks like the secretary is saying to him, "No jumping. And don't forget to shake his hand."

We just love Bo, such adorable, like his Master, thank you Mr.President for giving us a bright future and delighting moment in times like this. We pray for your succes, we don't want your presidency to end not yet. From Caroline in The Netherlands.

Bo is AWESOME, just like his new family. I know his unconditional love will be a blessing for them all. Thank you, Mr. President, for sharing your family, including Bo, with all of us. Michelle is beautiful, classy and an inspiration to all. Malia & Sasha are so precious and it is so much fun to see them. Maybe one of them will some day be our first female President! Thank you President Obama for being willing to take on the difficult challenge of being our President during a time when our country has so many huge problems......we have already noticed a change in many areas and know that although it will take time there is every reason to be hopeful when looking to the future. We feel like the sun finally came out after many gray days when you were elected.

With greatest respect, Mike Meyers & Sherry Smith Meyers

"know his unconditional love will be a blessing for them all." How right you are Ms. Meyers. I'm so glad they are embracing this puppy.

At first I was concerned because as I understood from the PR reports, the Barrack's had never owned a dog. Having a dog, IMHO, is like having another child. They rarely get past the 3 yo stage.

Am so glad they are spending time with a dog trainer, allowing the puppy to be a puppy, and when I saw Michelle's protective nature of the new little guy (crouching down to protect him from the press, no less) - I'll admit it changed my opinion of her. (Give me a break - she's a lawyer, that's where my bias lain.)

In addition, I'm more than delighted that the girls 'love him' and that Michelle has taken on the natural inevitable position of being mainly responsible for him.

Bo is a lucky, happy dog and I'm sure he'll bring an 'unabandoned' normalcy to the household that will dearly be cherished for years to come.

Bo Obama is adorable. I am glad to see he is "running" the House because Lord knows my dog is running mine. Pets help people keep a healthy mental balance and their unconditional love is unmatched. I hope the First Family enjoys the love of this precious gift for years to come!

God bless them and God bless us all!

I cannot get enough of Bo! He is a beauty and is fortunate to have adopted the President and his family! We have two rescues and love them to pieces! I hope that he has a place to play outside in which he can run off lead and feel protected. That would make his life perfect! Hope he lives to a ripe old age.

I have a PWG named "Echo" so I know how active Bo can be. What the Obama's don't yet know is how loyal this breed really is! They do not like to be too far away from their humans! They love to be in the middle of everything! Mine actually panics if I am not in his eyesight. They are such a lovable dog. Enjoy him!

Just thought you'd appreciate this cartoon starring Bo Obama:

About Jill Rosen
Jill Rosen is a reporter at The Baltimore Sun. During her nearly 20 years in journalism, she has covered news and features — including a surprising number of stories that involved animals. There were the dog Christmas carolers in State College, Pa. There were the hounds who toured with a production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The story of a preschool teacher at Baltimore’s Father Kolbe School who had to replace her class guinea pig, who died over the winter holiday. A harrowing tale of what it was like to make homemade pet food ...

Though her clean freak of a mother refused to allow her to get a dog, she has had a number of pets through the years, including goldfish named Bob and Fingle, a betta fish named Ichabod, a wild rat terrier named Wendel, who she shared with a roommate, and, currently, sweet, sweet kitties named Leo Sesame and Milo Pumpkin and a little rescued pup named Teddy Bean. She, Leo, Pumpkin and Teddy Bean live in Baltimore.
