Patrick Swayze gets new puppy

SwayzeActor Patrick Swayze, who is fighting a well-publicized battle with pancreatic cancer, says he wishes the tabloids would stop focusing on the negative. He says in a statement to People magazine he is enjoying life and has a new puppy, a 12-week-old Rhodesian Ridgeback named Kumasai.

Many studies have documented the health benefits of owning a pet. And of course, having a pet around can just make us feel better.

My grandfather had pancreatic cancer and unfortunately he was gone within 6 months. If there is anyone out there that can beat this type of cancer I hope that Patrick Swayze is that person. I feel sorry that he and his family are having to battle the media as well during this tough time, it is not their place to criticize or talk negatively of his personal life. That should not be what America prides itself on, money for spreading gossip and the supposed truth to sell magazines. I wish Swayze well with his battle and hope that he will triumph above all this and come back even stronger than ever. May God be with you.

My father had pancreatic cancer also, the doctors gave him 6 months to live, but being the hardworking man he was he refused to let it beat him. He worked everyday remodling his home until his last breath and made it 3-1/2 years after his long battle. He also hd a new puppy and if your trust in God is real all things are possble.

Patrick keep your eyes wide open, you are dong what you do well acting and being a Native Texan, WE GO DOWN FIGHTING!!!!

You are continuasly in my prayers.

My dad had pancreatic cancer. It was hard seeing him go through the pain this type of cancer can have! He raised 8 children, had a 5 way bi-pass & in younger years fought for our country. Dad held down several jobs to provide for his family. It was so sad to see someone with such love and hard working pass away with cancer.
Patrick, you're in our thoughts and prayers!

Patrick- I also have a dog who loves us no matter what. He's a great dog. It's comforting for me to have him cause I'm old and raising Grandchildren, and he's always watching out for me. Its a conforting feeling. We love and respect you and your wife. We've watched you since you was a muscle man!! We send our kindest of regards and our deepest love for ya'll. Take care of yourself and we'll see ya later~~LuvU...........

Patrick you have been in my thoughts everyday since I heard of your illness. I don't know why but hearing of your illness really touched me in a way no other has. Maybe it's because you seem bigger than life and cannot die or maybe it's because you are so full of life that you should never die. Whatever it is you are a fighter so fight this Patrick. Don't give up until you win. You can do it. I know you can

PATRICK YOU ARE MY FAVORITE ACTOR I LOVE YOU IN DIRTY DANCING YOU ARE SO HANDSOMHANDSOME DANCING WITH BABY.YOU CAN FIGHT THIS BATTLE I KNOW YOU CAN BECAUSE YOU ARE STRONG LOVE YOU.MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU TAKE CARE

Focusing on the positive: Congratulations on your new puppy! We also have a RR. May yours bring you as much joy as our does. Razor (at 3 yrs old) is loving, playful, loyal.... and stubborn, obstinate & a counter-surfer! At 155 lbs, he has taken over our home and hearts. Good luck to you and I wish you all the best.

I have a friend in Belgium who is a Grand Master of Reikke who is sending Patrick great energy from a photograph. Each time I see pictures of Patrick he looks better than before. I don't know if Patrick believes in metaphysics but all that compassionate energy seems to be working. If he would like to be in touch with Michel his E mail is maitre.vito@coditel.net

My best wishes to Patrick

I also have a Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy. Her name is Nala and she is 6 months old. When we first got her she had about 6 adults dooped into thinking she was cold-stone deaf. RR are known for having selective hearing. She is also a countersurfer - turned the gas on the stove the other day. You're in for a treat.

About Jill Rosen
Jill Rosen is a reporter at The Baltimore Sun. During her nearly 20 years in journalism, she has covered news and features — including a surprising number of stories that involved animals. There were the dog Christmas carolers in State College, Pa. There were the hounds who toured with a production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The story of a preschool teacher at Baltimore’s Father Kolbe School who had to replace her class guinea pig, who died over the winter holiday. A harrowing tale of what it was like to make homemade pet food ...

Though her clean freak of a mother refused to allow her to get a dog, she has had a number of pets through the years, including goldfish named Bob and Fingle, a betta fish named Ichabod, a wild rat terrier named Wendel, who she shared with a roommate, and, currently, sweet, sweet kitties named Leo Sesame and Milo Pumpkin and a little rescued pup named Teddy Bean. She, Leo, Pumpkin and Teddy Bean live in Baltimore.
