Second Iditarod dog dies
A second dog in this year's Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race has died, according to the Anchorage Daily News -- a 3-year-old named Lorne.
Race officials say the dog died of injuries Sunday night caused when a snowmobiler ran into the team of Jennifer Freking of Finland, Minn.
The accident occurred on the Yukon River near Koyukuk.
A 7-year-old male in the team of rookie musher John Stetson of Duluth, Minn., died of pneumonia earlier leading Stetson to remove his team from the race.

That makes at least 135 dogs dead in the name of the Iditarod and numerous injured. As I said the other day on here about the Iditarod, it is barbaric and it's time has come and gone. How many more dogs must die or be injured, especially when this so-called race no longer resembles the original one which started as a quest for medication, and was not as lengthy or harsh as what the current Iditarod has become? It's time to end this brutal 'race'.

What's even more tragic is all the dogs languishing in pounds, most of them doomed to die cause nobody wants them -- any one of which also capable of amazing feats.

Obviously, you have no idea the extreme care given these athletes. These dogs are treated VERY well and are actually excited when it comes to running and pulling a sled. Take a look at how Mr. King goes to great lengths to care for his team and the advancements he has designed for his dogs.
Having raised dogs for the better part of nine years in Alaska (sadly, none for the Iditarod), I respect the amount of time, work and, yes, love that goes into caring for these amazing animals!

This race should have never went on!We shouldn't see these dogs die like this in this race and it is very heartbreaking. It should be stop and Alaska should come up with a better sport!
