Baltimore Herb Festival
The 23rd annual Baltimore Herb Festival is Saturday in Leakin Park. You, and your wagon, are welcome!
What sets this event apart from similiar festivals, ones that sell jewelry, clothing and just about anything else, this festival is about herbs and only herbs!
Lectures include: 11 a.m. on edible plants; noon on dill, named "herb of the year;" 1 p.m. on medicinal herbs and 2 p.m. on the Sacred Hopi Labyrinth.
Admission is $5. The festival runs form 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or sine.
There will be music, train rides, an herbal lunch, vendors and demonstrations.

Actually, you can find more than just herbs there. There will be some ornamentals, some vegetable seedlings, etc. I always buy some handmade soap from the "Soap Fairy" guys. Someone will be selling various crafts--you can count on it. Also, if you bring the kids, they can ride on the miniature trains (you can, too!)
Thanks, Dahlink! -- Susan

I'm so glad to get your first-hand report, Dahlink! The website certainly looks as though there will be a lot going on. I'm marshalling my energy to dig the red wagon out of the furthest back corner of the shed.

Eve, hope to see you there. Be sure to wear shoes that can cope with mud--more rain is in the forecast.

Eve, I saw lots of red wagons, but I didn't see you pulling one. There were thousands of very mellow people there from all over Baltimore. The bluegrass music was playing and the miniature trains were running, and the rain held off. New this year was a vendor with aquatic plants. There were a couple of vendors with carnivorous plants (always a hit with kids). Lots of vendors had natives and old-fashioned perennials. Best of all, prices have come down--I bought some pots of herbs for as little as $1.50 this year or $2.00.
The mansion was open for an art show--worth checking out as well.

If you missed the festival, Planet Produce at Belvedere Square has some good-looking herbs available, most in good-sized pots.
