Tool time: the big cat

My husband and I scrap over space in the garage.

Me for my garden tools, pots and products. He for his lawnmower, crafts and keepsakes from sports and the kids' school projects.

He says this is the only garden tool I don't own. If I did, it would be the only vehicle that's ever been parked in that garage.

It is baffling how the garage turns into a storage shed for everything but the cars.

Isn't It?--Susan

I don't even have a garage, just a tiny shed. But a bobcat would come in handy ...

I, too, have only a shed. Every fall, I get it all neat and straight as I put the chairs from the porches away for the winter and arrange everything so that the winter stuff - shovels, sleds and salt - is nearest the door. Every spring I'm stunned at the mess! What goes on in there?

That bobcat is about the same size as my yard.

About Susan Reimer
Susan Reimer has spent 16 years writing about raising kids - among other topics - in her column for The Baltimore Sun. And every time son Joseph or daughter Jessie passed another milestone - driver's license, college, wedding or a move to a new military duty station - she has planted another garden. Now she will be writing about those gardens - and yours - here on Garden Variety.

Susan isn't an expert gardener, but she wasn't an expert mother, either. Both - the kids and the gardens - seem to be doing well in spite of her.

She lives in Annapolis with her husband, Gary Mihoces, who loves to cut his grass but has noticed that there seems to be less of it every time the kids pass another milestone.
