Whose garden is this, anyway?

Susan Reimer's garden

It was like dancing between raindrops.

I took advantage of the 10 minutes of sunshine we have had this month and took some pictures of my garden.

There has been explosive growth and blooming. I almost didn't recognize it.

The flowers are very happy!

So are the slugs, I think. And the weeds.

But so much of my garden just drank up the rain and lifted its face to the sky.

Beautiful, Susan! What variety of echinacea is in the first photo?

I loose track, but I think it is Sundown...I've been collecting all the new ones...but can't find Tomato Soup and Mac n Cheese!

Beautiful pictures. Thank you!

The rain has been something this year. The plants are loving it. Your photos are lovely. thank you for sharing and braving the rain to take them.

I was harshly criticized some years ago for planting purple loosestrife which is an invasive species. Never had any trouble wih it until this year-rain helped it take over large sections of my garden. Watch it!!

I planted the loostrife more than 10 years ago, before it was labled an invasive. And since then I have always been amazed that it was labled that way cause the darn stuff has never moved anywhere in my garden!!!--Susan

About Susan Reimer
Susan Reimer has spent 16 years writing about raising kids - among other topics - in her column for The Baltimore Sun. And every time son Joseph or daughter Jessie passed another milestone - driver's license, college, wedding or a move to a new military duty station - she has planted another garden. Now she will be writing about those gardens - and yours - here on Garden Variety.

Susan isn't an expert gardener, but she wasn't an expert mother, either. Both - the kids and the gardens - seem to be doing well in spite of her.

She lives in Annapolis with her husband, Gary Mihoces, who loves to cut his grass but has noticed that there seems to be less of it every time the kids pass another milestone.
