Drudge Report on Michelle's Garden

Sheesh.

Matt Drudge, editor of the blog Drudge Report, has posted a pair of before-and-after photos of the White House kitchen garden which seem to suggest that the garden couldn't have grown so much between April and June.

Me? I think the First Lady is involved in a vast left-wing conspiracy to get people to eat fresh fruits and vegetables.

I could not find the article you referred to on the Drudge Report, BUT from the headline alone, this falls into the "Oh, spare me" category. I've got green beans that have grown three feet in about 10 days. Is this clown kidding? With the rain we've had? We're talking a Spring crop, here. Lettuce only lasts 60 days. How long do you think it takes to grow? I'm with you, Susan, left wing conspiracy to teach children the benfits of a good diet. OMG! What is the world coming to?!

that's what they do on every issue- 1)bait 2) switch 3) media says "who cares"- good luck in your next career

Now that is the kind left-wing thing that we like. Vegetables that works for us. Keep going with this kind anytime.

I won't doubt the authenticity of the vegs. However, she planted the garden to set an example for American families. But who wears a sweater in a summer garden. Where are the pics of her pulling weeds wearing an old sweat soaked shirt. One doesn't exhibit their leadership in the planting or harvesting, but in the day to day maintenance of the garden.

About Susan Reimer
Susan Reimer has spent 16 years writing about raising kids - among other topics - in her column for The Baltimore Sun. And every time son Joseph or daughter Jessie passed another milestone - driver's license, college, wedding or a move to a new military duty station - she has planted another garden. Now she will be writing about those gardens - and yours - here on Garden Variety.

Susan isn't an expert gardener, but she wasn't an expert mother, either. Both - the kids and the gardens - seem to be doing well in spite of her.

She lives in Annapolis with her husband, Gary Mihoces, who loves to cut his grass but has noticed that there seems to be less of it every time the kids pass another milestone.
