Make me over Friday Five
Most movies, even the hardest of the hardcore action movies, have some romance in it. Movies, like life, are not as interesting without a little bit of love. More often than not, films fall short of real life. Everything is neatly tied up at the end and the couple rides off in the sunset. However, sometimes, you can find that one scene that rings true, that makes you think, "That'd be cool if that happened to me."
That's what this week's Friday Five is about. The romantic scenes you'd love to come true:
That's what this week's Friday Five is about. The romantic scenes you'd love to come true:
The action romance. When Hicks is teaching Ripley how to use the gun in Aliens ... and when he goes from pulling her along (due to her emotional state) to her helping him walk (due to his physical state) in 40 seconds.
The teen dream. The boombox scene in "Say Anything." Except I get to have the boombox. And it's less stalker-y. Actually, I think I just want to listen to that song more. So, me and a boombox playing Peter Gabriel. There you have it!
Just plain action. The end of "Die Hard." Flawless victory.
Musical harmony. I love the scene in the Sound of Music where Captain von Trap and Maria are under the gazebo and it's raining! After he dumps the baroness, and she's come back from the convent again and they sing the song about "Somewhere in my youth or childhood, i must have done something good."
That would be more complicated to recreate.
And, a classic. The first scene that comes to mind for me is the last one of Breakfast at Tiffany's.After spending the film denying to herself that she could be in love, and being an independent "free spirit" and pragmatic chick, Holly and "Fred" share a passionate kiss in the rain (with poor cat getting all rained on).
I love it.
I do too. So much so that I found the clip (it starts at about 7 minutes in):

I'd forgotten to mention that the other awesome thing about Breakfast at Tiffany's is that Paul/"Fred" later was Hannibal on the A-Team. Dude. Rad.
