MY favorite scene
It's the last day to get your romantic scenes in and, I figured I'd jump-start the slowing discussion with sharing my favorite.
It's in The Cooler, starring, in my opinion, the very unsexy William H. Macy. This movie is about two broken people finding love in each other, and every time watch this scene, I just go to pieces. The woman Macy's character, Bernie, has fallen in love with, Natalie (played by Maria Bello), has been knocked around a bit, and is visibly upset about the stitches, scratches and bruises on her usually beautiful face:
[Natalie sees herself in the rearview mirror]Said by the wrong person, those words would just come off as another line. Uttered by that guy in that moment -- it's perfect. Someone said those words to me, and really meant it? I'd be theirs forever.
Natalie: Oh my God.
Bernie: Hey. You look in the mirror, you don't like what you see, don't believe it.
Bernie: Look in my eyes, I am the only mirror you're ever gonna need.
Bernie: You look in my eyes, Natalie.

IMO, that movie is one of the most surprisingly wonderful films out there ... and surprisingly romantic.
