McDonald's Shrek glass recall

shrek%20glass%20recall.jpg
McDonald's is recalling 12 million "Shrek" glass cups because the paint on them contains cadmium, a toxic metal.

If you bought any (they were sold for $2 apiece, according to this report), they should be returned to McDonald's for a refund. In the meantime, the story says, please keep them away from your children.

Urgente

I was wondering my sister got some and she has 3 kids. They do not use the glasses they are put up out of the reach of everyone just for viewing purposes, would she have to give them back if they are not being used to drink out of or even being touched?

Good question. I'd personally err on the side of caution. KS

I would return cups even if they have them for display, who wants to keep something poisoned in your house, there is always a risk.....

i have a question my mother and i collect the mcdonalds cups now after this recall it makes me wonder if the past years it might have something that was never cought

If they are not drinking out of them and are just used for looks there is no problem. Just don't let the kids play with them. There is no risk ROFL people are just OVERLY paronoid and protective these days its ridiculous. My grandma is 90 years old, she was born in 1920, she has lived in this world with all the "problems" for 90 years and is healthy.

ARE YOU KIDDING???? Put them on Ebay! These are highly collectible and now..EXTREMELY RARE!
Since they are recalled, collecters will be going NUTZ!! You can start the bidding at $100 and watch the numbers FLY!
If you hve a whole set, take the kids to Disneyland with the money you make to make up for selling their toys!

what should i do if i have already drunk out of the cups

By the way...I am a Consumer Science Product Testing teacher in New Jersey. Cadmium is dangerous in high amounts, much higher than these glasses contain.
However, as these are always collectible, you can be assured of making money on them if you have them!

I am 7months pregnant and have been drinking out of the glasses..... scares me. My five year old has been drinking out of them too.

I just drank out of one of these for breakfast!

I honestly don’t see what the big deal is, cadmium will give you the same health defects that eating McDonalds fattening food will: bone softening and severe kidney problems.

Ebay here I come! I have the entire set from Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After(recalled set). I bought them not for personal use but to be displayed, so they've never been used...Any takers? LOL!

Anyone know if the glasses sold in 2007 are bad as well ?

Anyone know how much cadmium can be absorbed through the skin? Seems like the paint is on the outside of the glass.

The "poison" is the pain on the outside of the glass itself, its cadmium paint used in a ton of products in your house, but probably not most of the ones you drink out of. if you're not scraping the paint off dozens of glasses and eating it, don't worry.

Would anyone who is returning the glasses be willing to sell me the Shrek glass and the Foina glass?

I don't care about all this bull crap people are being too over cautious about.

I just want those glasses! Email me please? : )

I looked up Cadmium online. Given that five different websites said it is one of the ingredients in cigarettes, I'm not going to get too fussed up. You don't see cigarettes being recalled because of Cadmium, so why worry about Mcdonalds glasses?

Do the research ppl!! Cadium is only dangerous in high amounts. Its is a natural element found in soil & is NOT easily absorbed in the skin. Nothing to freak out about! The recall is voluntary so I'm keeping my & using them. Can't be afraid of everything.

what if u drink out of the shrek already

I want the entire set. I have most of it but would pay for the whole set if anyone has the whole set and wants to get rid of them because of the recall I will take them.

Like the tylenol recall.I actually kept the empty bottle of the recalled pills we took it is put away in a safe place. That way if something comes up health wise with any of my family I can have the bottle for evidence and also testing. When things are recalled they want you to "return them" I think it's so the whole thing can be swept up under the rug and you have no tangible "proof" should something happen to you down the line.Say you get some strange illness that has been traced to cadmium and you just know it was from the cups but you returned them years ago and no proof exists you even had them...Then what?
I know that pry sounds nuts and no.I am not wearing a tin foil hat.I have just learned over the years that you should not be naive and trust that everybody has good intentions nor will they always be honest with you.I am a child of a veteran who died from a cancer caused by Agent Orange."harmless defoliant" my rear.Everybody is out to cover their butts so make sure you cover yours too.

Dont let your kids keep drinking from them, but I myself am chosing to keep my glasses they will defineately be a collector item.

Wish i could sell them on ebay! But ebay does not allow recalled items. I could have made a killing. I have plenty in anyone is interested.

I work for mcdonalds. Our company voluntarily recalled the glasses. The amounts of cadmium are very minimal. My two boys ingest more cadmium from the mud pies they make in the back yard than from these glasses. But hey, go ahead and run to your local restaurant to return them... It just makes the glasses that I'm keeping more valuable and rare!!

If you look at the distance between the print and the edge of the glass you'll notice that there is about a 2.5 to 3cm distance. You really have to be strange looking to have you're lips actually touch the paint while drinking. I'll probably keep mine. However I do hope MCD gets a ton turned in. Maybe they'll consider getting their stuff from somewhere besides China.

How does it affect you when you drink if the paint is on the outside of the cup, and not on the inside?
