Date night, just like the Obamas!
OK, probably we aren't going to jet off to New York and catch a Broadway show like the president and first lady when our children are happily away at a sleepover. But my husband and I are going to get a rare date night soon, and I for one am excited about it.
The only problem is, we aren't good about doing the regular date night like the Obamas. Babysitters get expensive, we get tired and settle for a video...you know how it goes.
So when we do have an opportunity like this, the choices almost seem overwhelming. What can we do that's fun and different?
Where would you go in Baltimore and its environs for date night? Where would you eat? Would you see a concert, or a movie, or a play? Would you join the crowds at Artscape, or flee them?

I (and probably many, many others) have been waiting for a post on your Sonic date night.
Oh, I meant to refer back to the Sonic exchange. I'm putting my foot down, though, for this time -- no Sonic.

My husband and I are huge football fans and from Sept.-Jan., we have a standing date late every Saturday afternoon (the timing works out well because all the days' activities seem to be over and it's not dinner time yet). We go to a local sports bar (Green Turtle is our favorite), we each order a beer and split some wings and we watch part of a college football game with the rest of the crowd. There's always great energy in the room but it's not so loud that we can't talk and catch up. We're usually gone less than 90 minutes and as a bonus, we bring home a pizza for the kids for dinner. No cooking, minimal cleanup and everyone's happy (particularly mom and dad!).

I wish I HAD a date. As a 50+ yr old widow I've discovered the market has changed considerably since the last time I had occasion to look for a date. But here's what I'd do: find a literary event—a reading, lecture, or a book signing, and afterwards head for an ethnic restaurant I've never been to, order something interesting and inexpensive, and then drive to Federal Hill, get out of the car, walk around, sit on a bench and talk, and have a look over the harbor. Maybe take our cameras along to get some interesting shots, and talk about photography as well as books and the other stuff one needs to talk about to get the ball rolling.
That sounds lovely!
