I watched that this morning... they look dangerous to me, too easy for the little ones to just dunk under !

My wife Stacy had an observation as well... exactly how do you wash them if they are entirely submerged in that confining tube of a tub ?

We'll stick with the baby tubs, even after 4 kids worth of baths :)

p.s. Wouldn't an old 5-gallon bucket be a better option than an expensive designer 5-gallon bucket ? LOL

I think it makes total sense and is a brilliantly simple idea...its just a bucket and you could buy one at your local home depot or buy the "wash pod", another version that I bought...it only cost $25 and seems much more stable/user friendly. Both companies only suggest using from 0-6mos and I have watched some footage on youtube and all babies are either totally chill in it or happy...it similates the womb and keeps the baby warm rather then out in the cool air like other tubs...i think that is half the battle. like any tub you need to be there to support the baby.

I didn't see the today show segment but the original use for the tummy tub is to relieve a colicing baby's symptoms. They work very well for that purpose I don't understand why the today show wouldn't have centered the segment around that.

Hmmm...Meredith says "I understand babies develop faster in this tub...and are more likely to stand at an earlier age..." and a mom responds with "...that is one of the benefits of the tub..."

C'mon why do so many people seem to be in such a rush for little ones to grow up!!

Regular buckets don't go through the chemical testing that these do- so who knows what kind of horrible things are in there- phathalates, lead, BPA... I wouldn't want my baby in that!

The Wash Pod is made by Prince Lionheart- a California company. I used it too and agree that it seems much more stable and user friendly- and for half the price!

It's easy to wash them everywhere. Babies are really slippery in the bath- just reach your hand in and wash!

These tummy tubs are retarded. I have 12 month old twins and I would NEVER buy these tubs for like $45.00 each...give me a break. Babies are scared of water when they are very,very young not at 9 months as these babies appear to be. Also, there is no way to give a proper bath to a baby in one of these things. So then what!? Oh yeah, pick your baby up and clean him or her and risk them slipping out of your hands and injuring themselves...NO THANKS!! I'll pass..

Not all babies are scared of water at a very very young age. My daughter, who is now 9 months old, has loved bathtime from day one! I wish I would have known about these tubs then. She would love it! And would you really want to wash your baby in a bucket!? They tip over much more easily. Yes, they are a bit pricey for what they are , but so are boppy's and we use them anyway when we could just be using regular pillows. And the fact that they may develop faster is actually a great thing. Because of the risk of sids, babies are spending more time on their backs and developing their motor skills at an older age.It has nothing to do with everyone being in a hurry for their baby to 'grow up'. It just means developing their motor skills a little faster.

i totally agree my daughter who is now 6 months loves bathtime from day one too. but i do think that they are kind of expensive..

I also have 4 children - my youngest is just 7mos. Although these look kind of cute, I usually toss all my kids in the bath together! My favorite thing to bathe a baby is a little seat (plastic - partially reclined - still using for baby #4) that cost about $7 and goes right in the big tub. That, or one of those inflatable duck shaped tubs you can get at Target for $10.

I think these things are hilarious. The babies don't cry because they are probably confused-- i.e. why did you just put me in a pot, Mom? They do look cozy, though.

Seems a whole lot easier than trying to bathe a newborn in one of those traditional plastic tubs with the little one all moving and slippery and you're trying to keep him/her from slipping out of your hands and under the water...

I couldn't resist commenting here, because I just saw these things; and I think they're really dumb. I've taken the liberty of posting a link to this site, because I was glad to see I'm not the only one who is not a fan of these questionable pieces of baby equipment. I don't think they'd be good for newborns, and older babies are, I'd think, past needing a "womb environment".

I got the Tummy Tub for my now 6 month old when she was about 8 weeks because she would get cold in her other tub. I was unsure about this new tub but thought I would give it a try. While you do have to support their heads it solved the problem of her getting cold and the water actually stayed warmer longer. And it wasn't hard to wash underneath her - you just get a cloth and move it down the side of the tub and it slips right beneath her. The Tummy Tub has made bathtime a lot more enjoyable and it's definitely worth the price! While a bucket from The Home Depot may be cheaper it isn't made to prevent tipping and I wouldn't want my daughter chewing on the side of a bucket made to wash floors! I wish I would have had this when my 3 year old was smaller!

I have used the Tummy Tub with two of my three kids and I can't say enough great things about it. My kids were so much happier in this compared to a traditional bath tub and I put them in it at one week old. To address the concerns I keep hearing: They are NOT as prone to tip over as they might look. You decide how full to fill up this tub, so use less water if you are afraid of dunking under. I have found it easier to reach down in to wash my child than to wrestle with a screaming squirming baby in the traditional baby bath tubs. Price, try a less expensive alternative brand if this is an issue. And someone mentioned they would not buy two for their twins...do you bathe them both in infant tubs at the same time now?
Bottom line, you have to use appropriate supervision as with any baby product. And I think you have to try it for yourself before you condemn the product. As someone else mentioned, we used ours often when our babies were excessively fussy and could not be consoled by any other means. The instant they got into that tub, they were calm and relaxed.One final added bonus if you have baby boys, you will not get 'showered' while bathing them in the Tummy Tub.

I think the tummy tub is awesome!! I have 4 kids and didn't find this until my last one. I put her in it for the first time when she was 10 days old and she loved it! It is not just a bucket as some say it is. It is specially designed and the babies love it. My youngest is now 10 months old and would prefer the tummy tub to the regular tub.
I say don't knock it until you try it!!
It is not dangerous if you follow the directions, which you should do with anything concerning your children!

Oh my goodness, I've never had any problems washing my babies (and no they weren't ever scared of water) and I never had to buy any sort of contraption, even a run of the mill "baby tub". I just bathed them in the kitchen sink. I can hold/support the baby with one arm (while keeping most of the body warmly submerged) and wash with the other and I don't have to crouch over the tub. And how are you supposed to wash the baby's hair in those tummy tubs? You can't exactly dip their heads backwards in them... People just need to stop spending money on stuff they don't really need. Except for the Boppy. It's waaaaaay better than pillows.

I just think it's fascinating how this tub has generated more comments than far more interesting topics. Maybe because it involves babies :-)

I've never seen a baby "frightened" of water--I think most baby baths are uncomfortable and spooky for little'uns, who don't want to be supine anyway. I've been climbing into the tub with my third since he's a week old--it's a lovely, soothing time for both of us--but I'm going to get a tummy tub just for the photo ops--they look like little sweethearts in a flower pot.

They only people who have anything bad to say about this product are people who haven't actually used them..."I don't think it would be good for newborns," blah blah... but you don't really know, do ya?? So,why don't you leave the reviewing to people who actually have experience with the tub? The rest of you are just giving people like me, who want useful opinions, more crap to filter through.

For those of you who have commented that there is no way to give a baby a bath in one, you haven't tried. I saw this in Europe first, when my friends were using it for their baby. (Europeans have been using these things for a while.) I thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen. And their baby was absolutely serene in it...or splashing and having fun. I think it is much more natural than trying to lay one down. It works beautifully. Re: dunking under...well, that is why you always keep an eye on the baby and/or one hand. You hopefully wouldn't go off and leave a baby alone in any of them, would you? And, re: dunking...have you ever seen pictures of water baby lessons, with infants swimming underwater. They hold their breath if momentarily submerged. But, this tub is quite safe as long as common sense and safety rules are followed.

every person in entitled to their own opinion.. but the question is to the ppl who critize these tubs... do you own a tummy tub? or have you ever used one? If not then why down grade a product that if for no reason other than you can afford to buy it .. or becase of the shape i have a now 11/2 mo old and he was born a premee he was only 4lbs5 oz when he came home this tub made him feel comfort for no other reason then becase he was earily i love the tub it made him feel like he wad still in the womb...

This may be an old video and an old post, but I had to comment. I used a tummy tub with my now four year old daughter and she LOVED it. I had a CNM deliver the baby and she gave me the Tummy Tub as a gift. We used it in the hospital before she even came home and it was like an instant pleaser. She was lactose intolerant as a baby and before we found out we used the tub a lot to help calm her down when she was gassy. Worked so great. She has always loved bathtime. We used to do baby massage after a bath and it was a winning combination every time. She was never in any more danger of drowning than she would have been if I had a regular baby bath. I was always right with her and never left her alone. Before she could support her head, I would gently support her chin to keep her from slipping under the water. She only got fussy when I had to take her out of the water! I plan to get another one (the anti-skid band on ours broke) if we have another child.

I LOOOOOVE the Tummy Tub! I've used it on my baby since the day I brought her home from the hospital! She doesn't like it when I take her out and she's now 10wks old. Obviously you'll have to be careful whatever you use. And yes it gets her clean. Does bathing get you clean? Also someone said they bathe their baby in the sink?! Disgusting! Google kitchen sink germs and you'll see how its the #1 germiest place in your home. If you clean it 1st then what deterrgents are you getting on your little one? How abt the full size tub? No thanks - I'll stick to the tummy tum its always quick and always clean.
