Teacher gifts, part II

It's time again to give teacher gifts, a subject we've discussed a bit before. This year, I imagine the economy may factor in to some parents' decisions about what to give, and to which teachers.

We're looking for a Maryland teacher who might be getting an early gift this week to photograph. If you know of a gift presentation that fits the bill, please send me an e-mail.

Meanwhile, what are you giving your favorite teacher? Teachers, what are you hoping to get from parents and students?

My, what a good question. As a former teacher, I received some really neat and thoughtful gifts. I taught Kindergarten and one year the Mothers made a sweatshirt for me with a hand print and first name of each child. That was 24 years ago and I still have it. I remember each and every child. Now I let my Great Grand Kids pick the gift. This year it is a "Most beautiful blooming plant" from my 5 year old to the" very best teacher ever", her Kindergarten teacher. My 7 year old second grade gal picked a lovely scented candle for her teacher. And for their Principal a long stem red rose from both of them. She will love it. And I thought I was the "very best teacher ever" all these years. LOL I retired before they were born. My Grand Daughter got a good laugh over this one.

I always like to give a group gift of a gift certificate to a restaurant or store. The pooled contributions can give a teacher an opportunity to treat herself, and it seems unless you really know the teacher well, it is hard to give a reasonably priced, good gift.

I also think it's great when a class gets together and makes a photo album or scrapbook, something for the teacher to remember the class in years to come.
