Pregnant at 66?

A British woman has apparently become pregnant through in-vitro fertilization at 66, I've learned from the Orlando Sentinel's Moms At Work blog. They're running a poll on whether it should be illegal to provide fertility treatments to women who are too old to conceive naturally. Care to vote?

These trends are getting more and more outrageous every year. First it was women in their mid forties, then fifties, now sixties? This needs to go in the category of not can we do this but should we do this?? Any one who has small children realizes the tremendous physical effort requried to raise them, and how can a 66 year old woman possibly manage that responsiblity? More importantly, the most valuable thing a child needs growing up is active involvement from parents. By the age of 20, mom would be nearly 90 years old, how is that fair to the upbringing of a child to have a mother, older than many's peers great grandparents?

To me this is the most selfish act a person could commit, to have a child that they will most likely never live to see turn 25. What does this do to a child's psyche?

hey well at least this woman is in great shape and healthy! more than you can say for most 20-30 year olds having a baby. and what is the difference in having a child or having your own children dump there kids off with their grandparents. being a mom has nothing to do with age! its all about taking on a responsibility, a challenge and being a loving honest person. you don't see women who loose there own children because they cant take care of them or abuse drugs alcohol or their own children getting a bad rep so why should a healthy mom get a bad rep???
