Mother's Day: Don't expect much

Mother's Day is still several weeks away, but the Wall Street Journal is already trying to lower our expectations. You guessed it; because of the recession, moms will likely get less expensive gifts this year.
What really surprised me, though, is that the story said the amount each person is expected to spend on Mother's Day will fall to $123.89, down 11 percent from last year.
Sounds to me like a fair amount of dough, even for an average figure, no? I'm happy with much less, especially if it's something created by my family (or an activity to do with them). Am I in the minority here?

I'm lucky if I get a card! I'm wondering what these moms are getting for over $100!

My son has a baseball double-header on Mother's Day, that's where I'll be spending my day. All I really want is dinner and someone else to clean up afterwards....

I would be happy if both sons remembered to call (without being reminded). A card would be over-the-top!

My mother has been gone two years now. I miss telling her on Mother's Day how thankful I have been ALL my life for what she (and my father) made possible for me in my life. And I do not miss an opportunity to tell my wife the same thing for the same reason. Since I always do the clean-up after meals anyway, I try to present a unique gift with card AND take her out to eat. Moms -- Not one of us would be here without them!!!

Wow, the cost of home-made coffee mugs has really skyrocketed in the last year !
It must be the gold-leaf kids are putting on paper-mache' these days :)
