Summer camp countdown

Here's Liz Atwood with Tween Tuesday:
Summer vacation is still nearly four months away, but it’s already time to think about summer camp, as we reported yesterday. There are so many options for families to choose from: computer camp, art camp, sports camp, space camp, and on and on. The price variables are just as great, ranging from about $100 a week for day camp at the YMCA to nearly $1,000 a week for some overnight camps.
Throw in the whims and emotions of your typical tween, and you’ve got a challenge to come up with a camp that makes everyone happy.
So what are you going to do? Are you making your camp choice now to take advantage of the early-bird rate? Are you waiting until the last minute to see how your budget looks and what your tween wants to do? And do you have any suggestions for affordable camps tweens will enjoy? (That last question is for me).

With over 12,000 camps and 1,400 teen tours in the U.S. alone, the task of finding the perfect match is certainly daunting. Parents should try consulting a personal camp advisor. These services are typically free, and the most popular one is probably Choice Camps. You can also consult their website for expert reviews, parent testimonials, session dates, and detailed program descriptions. Camp doesn't need to be expensive (especially in this economy)! There are great deals out there - even on premium camps.

Great Summer Camps Abroad
in Spain or MEXICO
Just a quick note that if anyone would like to spend their summer in Spain or Mexico we would recommend to try this company: www.enfocamp.com. Their camps are just great. You learn spanish, you do lots of sport and you enjoy cultural trips around the cities and beaches! There are pleanty of choices for both Spain and Mexico. They offer day camp for a very good price but if you prefer your kids to stay overnight while you visit the country, the prices are very good too! For all the fun that they offer, nothing to complain! Robin & Pavli!

I started my daughter at Columbia Academy's Summer Camp a few years ago. Between the visits to the pool, field trips and "theme" days they have a lot of variety to keep her interested as she gets older. Might be worth a look for any mom's out this way (Howard County).

I am a single, working working mom. I work for Baltimore City Public School Systems. I am looking for an expensive day camp that my child can attend this summer. I have a 10 yr old son. Any suggestions?

For a great summer camp, I recommend Camp Putok, in Monkton Baltimore County. I went there for overnight camp every summer starting at age 9 I believe. Tons of fun!
