Picking pumpkins for next Thursday

pumpkinsIt's getting to be time to pick your pumpkin. If your preschool or school doesn't have a field trip scheduled, perhaps you're going on your own this weekend or next. But which pumpkin patch is best to visit?

I thought local pumpkin farms would be a good subject for next Thursday's tip sheet. As usual, the tips depend on you. Even more so this time than usual, because my heretofore favorite destination, the charming Belvedere Farm in Fallston, is not holding fall activities this year.

To start the discussion, here's our list of local pumpkin farms. Which is your favorite? Are there others you'd recommend?

Clark's Elioak Farm, on Route 108 in Columbia is kind of a daytrip, but it's fun. If the grands are not available for a full day, we'll go over to Weber's.

I noticed that Baugher's Orchard is not on the list. It's a great place, but is located out Route 140 a little past Westminster. It's a pick-your-own orchard year around and offers pumpkin picking, hay rides, mazes, etc. during this time of year. The apple orchard is open this time of year as well.

We're trying North Run Farm for the first time this year - hope it's as much fun as Baugher's.

We had previously gone to Spring Meadow Farms, but will be trying out a new farm this year due to the fact that they now have Pig Wrestling. We don’t want our money going to a place that supports activities that are inhumane to animals.
