Twins -- not so black and white
This interesting piece posted a few days ago at TheRoot.com will speak to anyone who has a child who's "different," and to any parent of a biracial child.
It was written by a mom whose twins, with both African and European ancestry, have different skin tones.

I'm a multi-racial American, as is my husband (and our daughter too, of course). The world we live in likes to fit people into little boxes. The best lesson my parents ever imparted to me was that I am who I am, and I don't have to buy into how other people define me. That has nothing to do with me - it's all about their own compulsion to label. I plan to pass this advice onto my daughter as she grows up: don't let anyone else tell you who you are! You can't be squeezed into a box. This is especially important for multi-racial children, because it can be confusing and demoralizing to have people tell you who you are, when you identify with mutliple cultures. Ultimately, though, I think this is good advice for all children who are somehow outside the norm.
