Send your tips on best local ice cream spots for families

ice cream parlors

Summer's fading fast, and with it those trips to the ice-cream shop that children live for. That makes this Thursday the perfect day for a tip sheet on your favorite local ice-cream spots for families.

Post your favorite parlors and the kid-friendly features that you like. I'll get a list together for tomorrow.

The place in the photo isn't local, but in Williamsport, Pa. I couldn't resist it, though. Wouldn't your kids go crazy over those humongous cones?

Then again, they'd probably end up wearing most of the ice cream...

Broom's Bloom in Bel Air. I hesitate to even mention it, because last time it was mentioned in the paper the place was flooded with people. It's the best, though. Started going there last summer when I was pregnant and since then have turned my back on all the other places. The ice cream is fresh and fantastic and the prices are reasonable. As a bonus, they also sell local meats, cheese, and produce. And the location is beautiful and serene. It's my happy place.

North Pole Ice Cream on Eastern Avenue in Highlandtown. This opened in 2004 and is a cute, old fashsioned spot. The exterior of the building really stands out but the real fun begins once your inside.

Mmmmmm.... Ice Cream! Hey, darn it, it's 4 am and now I'm CRAVING ice cream, thanks to you. :-) I must say, no, I've never seen so much ice cream on a cone before and even I would be wearing it on hot day! And I'm quite amazed, really, that they can actually put a "Big Jim" (from Friendly's) on a cone!
