Cooking with kids -- post your fave recipes and books

cooking with kidsCheck out our story on the slew of kids' cookbooks coming out this summer. Cooking with your kids is all the rage, and author Maria Blackburn road-tested a few of the books with her tribe and some friends.

Even some of the adults in the office here thought the recipe for Peanut Butter Globe Globs at the end of the story sounded like the best thing ever.

Now we'd like to hear from you. What are your favorite books or web sites for cooking with kids? And we'd love to have you post some of your favorite kid-involved recipes for us all to try.

I enjoyed the article and have been working to get my grandchildren as interested in food and cooking as I was at their age.
However, on page 5 of the article in the paper, I see Mia Smith standing on a stool barefoot while stirring a pot on the stove. Everyone, especially children, should always wear shoes, and preferably closed toe shoes, when cooking on a stove. Hot spills can scald feet and toes and ruin the enthusiasm for working in a kitchen.
I take a lot of cooking classes and virtually everyone of the classes requires closed toe shoes.

There is a mobile cooking school that will come to your house to teach your little ones and some friends to cook. Check out CulinaryKidsCookingSchool.com!

I recently posted a cooking with kids entry on a blog I write called Sweet Veg- E. My favorite to make with the little ones is ditalini pasta in chicken broth with chopped carrots (so much better than the canned stuff)! I love to do simple baking projects as well, an easy one with kids is carrot cake or banana bread. They can learn the basics of measuring and get messy at the same time. Great fun for all. Just requires a bit of patience.
