The best child care in the city -- send nominations

I'm starting a separate thread here to gather more tips for this week's Tip Sheet Thursday on great places to send your child for day care in Baltimore city. This will be the first in a series of tip sheets on the all-important question of day care, based on location.

When you post, please tell us as much as you can about why you like the child care provider or center (licensed home providers count too) and what ages you think it's best for. Let's try to get as many different recommendations as possible. I know a lot of you love Downtown Baltimore Child Care, but it wouldn't be convenient for everyone in the city. Let's hear about some others, too.

My contacts are very outdated, but I think you are asking a lot, Kate--only a very generous soul gives up the name of a great child care provider!

we like preschool at Cedarcroft. It's small and traditional.

Regarding convenient location: when my older son was at DBCC, one of the other parents lived in Columbia, came to DBCC to drop off her kids, and then drove to Bethesda to her job at NIH. DBCC is that good! It's why DBCC families are so fanatical about it. Check out their newsletters...they have "alumni" who keep in touch 20 years after they "graduated" from preschool. It's a rare child care center that makes that kind of impact on a child and his/her family. :-)

My kids went to DBCC, but I have also heard good things about the Bryn Mawr Little School and A Child's Place.

I love this daycare! My child thrived at Kiddy Haven & I know that he is well prepared for kindergarden. It is more than a daycare, its your childs second home. It is so clean, I could eat off the floor. The owner & staff have been together for over 20 years (which is very unusually this day & age) and truly care about you & your child. It is wonderful that they do no have more than 20 children so individual attention can be given to your child . They make you & your child feel like family. I totally trust my child (who is my life) with them. This is a place my child will be able to carry great memories throughout his life with him. Thank you for that Kiddy Haven & thank you for instilling in him self esteem & values that will last a lifetime!
