Next Thursday's tip sheet

Unless there is overwhelming sentiment for another topic, I'm leaning toward making this Thursday's tip sheet about great places to get your kids' hair cut in the area. Bonus points if it doesn't cost a fortune.

Again, I need your help with suggestions. Please post places where you've had good haircut experiences below, and tell us where they are and why you like them. If you have another idea for Tip Sheet Thursday, post that, too. And if you don't see it this week, there's always another Thursday around the bend. ...

We take the kids to Studio S hair salon in York Road in Timonium. They have a kids area, complete with a myriad of movie choices for the kids, friendly sytlists, and toys and coloring materials available.

We take our kids to see Vittorio at Martin's Hariport on Belair Road in the Beltway Palza Shopping Center. He used to have his own shop a few miles south but retired and does 2-3 days a week at Martin's. He is the best and has also been cuting my hair since I was little. Our boys get constant compliments on the haircuts every time we go.

We go to Vittorio at Martin's Hairport on Bel Air Road in the Beltway Plaza Shopping. He used to have his own shop a few miles south but retired and now does 2-3 days a week at Martin's. He is the nicest gentleman you'll ever meet and has been cutting my hair since I can remember as well. Our boys get constant compliments (even out in public) after they get the hair cut. They also love greeting him with "Hey Paisan!" He is the greatest!

Gennuso's on York Road in Stoneleigh! Mr. Garry, Mr. Wayne, and Miss Annette have been cutting my kids' hair since they were in the Children's Snippery at Hess Shoes in the Towson mall. And I have an adult friend who went to them when they were at Hess Shoes at Belvedere Square. For $12, they can cut a boy or girl's hair in a few minutes flat!

I can't wait to see this list. We take our son to Cartoon Cuts in White Marsh, even though it's totally not convenient for us, because we have no idea where else to go. They do a good job there, though, especially considering the fact that he wails and flails from start to finish. (Speaking of which, any tips for avoiding that ugly scenario every time???)

My preschooler (and his dad) go to The Beatnick Barbershop in Mt. Vernon. It's no frills, but the barbers are VERY nice and they do a really nice job on our little boy's hair. Bottom line -- they really know how to cut hair and it's reasonably priced ($16, I think). I suppose the downside is that my son now wants a slew of his own tattoos. . .

The favorite for both children and me would be Salon 36 Kids in Pikesville.

My son (4) adores Allison, who has cut his hair for years now, while Carol cuts the hair of my daughter (2) and my daughter gets so many compliments!

They have cute chairs for the kids to sit in, a DVD station for each child to watch during the cut, and a train table and puzzles to occupy siblings. As a bonus, they will even cut moms' hair so the children have someplace to play. Salon 36 Kids also hosts birthday parties.

The haircuts are a little on the steep side ($18), but I am willing to push the shagginess quotient between cuts in order to go somewhere that I know my kids will be behaved and happy, and of course, where they give really nice cuts.

This is super timely as we are taking our 15 month old to get his first haircut this weekend.

Ms. Frugal weighing in here - it's pretty easy to cut your kids' hair, especially when they are little. And believe me, you can take all the money you save and put it into a little investment account to help pay for all the money you start spending on your own hair in your 40's.

Boys especially - spend 20 dollars on a set of barber clippers, and you're in business. Pick up a pair of genuine haircutting shears, also. Those little kiddy scissors don't do a very good job on hair (don't ask me how I know this).

That said, sometimes a professionally done little girl's cut is irresistible; and then you can follow the line of the cut yourself for months to keep it in shape.

Honestly? We just go to Hair Cuttery. My son has been getting basically a buzz cut for awhile now (he is always hot) and it doesn't make sense to pay a lot of money for something that takes 5 miuntes! He has always been really good for the stylists, even when he got his first cut at 12 months and we were doing that little boy bowl type cut.

I've never cut my daughters hair, she just turned 2 about 2 weeks ago. I am afraid if I even trim her curls, they will go away!!!
