'Jon & Kate' - How low can the TV ratings go?

ddIn 24 years of daily writing about TV and media, I do not think I have ever seen an audience loss quite like the one "Jon & Kate Plus 8" has been experiencing since the mother and father of eight children announced their divorce on TV.

On Monday, the TLC reality TV show had an audience of 1.714 million viewers. If you compare that to the 10.6 million who watched a one-hour special on June 22 when the show returned after the parents announced their breakup, that's an 84 percent plunge in viewership.

In fairness, the 10.6 was for a one-hour special that had been hyped mercilessly by the tabloids, so the comparison to a regular half-hour episode in September is not a perfect one -- if there is such a thing in ratings stories.

But consider this, which is more than fair: Since Aug. 3, the show has lost 62 percent of its audience -- from 4.2 million viewers for the half hour show on that night, to the 1.7 million on Monday.

And the skid has been steady: from 4.2 million on Aug. 3, to 3.4 million on Aug. 10, to a 3 million on Aug. 17, to the 1.714 million Monday.

The only comfort for TLC is that it does appear that the show might finally be hitting bottom. On Sept. 14, the audience was 1.789 million viewers, according to TVbythenumbers.com. So, the drop to 1.714 this week, is the smallest of the season.

Still, what a drop. As one of my colleagues who is more of a ratings expert than me, said Thursday, "Looking at those numbers, I would say Jon & Kate's 15 minutes might not yet be up, but they're at about 14 and 1/2 and counting."

Well, just in case TLC or Jon and Kate read this. "For the sake of the children" what choice do we really have?

I would love to watch the show. Between all the tabloids, their own behavior on/off camera, the absolute non cooperation I see these two parents displaying, I just can't wrap around what it is I am supposed to be watching.

I was floored this week JON. When I read on your website www.sixgosselins.com that you displayed your girlfriends twitter account. You are not even officially divorced.

KATE your not off the hook with me either. Everything is about how you have to work now, poor me poor me. What about all that you have been given? You can't go without a few trips to the spa and latte's while you figure out what is really best for your kids?

And, finally TLC....I'll save the best for last. You actually thought you could cover up this entire catastrophe with a few episodes about a new house, dog, and trip to the beach....You have a responsibility to this family and other REAL families you cover.

I could go on and on. But, it would be futile. There has to be a better way guys to take care of these precious children. Their cute smiles and warm personalities brighten my day. I just won't watch right now, so maybe just maybe TLC, JON & KATE will rethink what they are doing here.

It once was a relateable show with a different but familiar family. Now-a rich spoiled woman and a rich spoiled man disregarding their children and blaming each other for their obnoxious, self-consumed choices and behavior.

From your mouth to God's ears. Those children need to regain their privacy.

I'm afraid that as long as the show continues to pull in over a million or 1.5 million viewers, there will be no plan to cancel it.
Do we know the numbers it was pulling a year ago right now?

Way to go, Z. I've been hoping for an article on the plunging ratings. It's almost as though there's a conspiracy to keep it hush-hush.

These ratings are all verified. I did not want to publish before I could verify them. Z

Just out of curiosity, what were the ratings like before all this broke loose? So essentially compared to last season how are the current numbers?

That's in my answer to one of the comments. The show averaged 2.9 million viewers an episode last year. Z

That is interesting the ratings. So they have dropped another millon or so since the 2.9 from last year, at this rate they won't have a show left before long.
Thanks for verifying all those numbers Z. And Aly was on top of it too!

Z - I'm officially addicted to your blog. How will this ratings decline affect Kate's shot at being on Paula Deen's show? I've noticed several blurbs clarifying that the prospective show is Paula's and not Kate's - is that a move by Paula's PR team??

Hi Suzi J: Thanks. I think the ratings skid is bad news for Kate's future prospects. These ratings have to make any producer think twice whether or not Kate can attract an audience -- and to ask why the massive tune-out of what is now essentiually her show. As for the Paula statement, I do not think it is a good thing for Kate that such reports are coming out. But I will be honest, I have not looked into it -- and I cannot say with any certainty what the reasons are. I will try to find out. Thnanks. Z

Hey Kate - I'm a single mom and my childen are doing fine because I come home every day after work and spend time with them. Not leave them with a nanny or even their father because he can't be bothered. However, the teachers say they were surprised the children came from a broken home because they get the love and attention needed. Don't give me this stuff about protecting them from the divorce - give it to them straight and talk about it with them instead of them hear others talking. Think of your kids for once and not your self - you enjoy the limelight.

Glad to see those numbers verified and then published - finally, someone with some integrity and not paid by Kate's PR Team.BTW, as an owner of a 14 year old terrier who is my BFF, I found Kate's comment that she was surprised that her dogs were able to bend the metal bars on their crates deplorable, stupid, and cruel. They would only do that if they were desperate to get out. Now if we could only find a way to free those little babies!

Hi Patti, That statement by Kate about the metal bars on the crates makes me too mad to put into words that can be used with this blog. That is just outrageous. I have not one bit of sympathy for her or Jon any longer. Z

Does anyone know how many episodes make up a season? What are contractual obligations of TLC if the ratings continue to plummet?

I'm beyond ecstatic to see the plunging ratings for this piece of garbage called a TV show. I'll be even more thrilled when the show is finally cancelled and one piece of the cash cow is cut off from these two disgusting human beings

Z, you rock. Thanks for getting the ratings. I haven't watched the show in well over a year. Before that, I thought it was kind of cute, watching this family struggle through the day-to-day tribulations of raising twins and sextuplets. Then the parents went all Hollywood and now I feel so sorry for the kids, who are so clearly being exploited by their parents and TLC.

Great reporting work, Z-man.

Great news!

Thank you!!!

I understand that Jon's current behavior is deplorable BUT.....the way Kate talked down to him and treated him from day one of the Show is far worse than anything Jon is doing. What goes around.....comes around Kate.

Z..

LIke you, the thoughts of dogs bending crate bars makes me see blood! But, I am still doubting that story. I think Kate made it up, so it would give more credence to how she just doesn't have enough time to care for the dogs.... and now, "see what they did?" It is damage control to show how busy a mother she is and take the blame off her.

She never made it a secret how much she disliked dogs.

In the today's news, Kate was a "speaker" (I use that term loosely regarding her) at a Woman's thing in Alabama. Apparently, she avoided questions regarding her tabloid life and answered the fluff stuff. Does she not realize that all she IS is the tabloid stuff, now that PLUS 8 show is going down the tubes? What else does this woman have to offer? Also, the article states that she would not talk to the press.

So, now we have a diva who only answers to what she deems relevant. She is a blank page without her tabloid press.

And... no insult to the south, but what are all these "women's conferences/shows"? And, I love that the article includes how she was dressed in a tight black dress and stiletto heels. Yeah, that's the way to relate to women paying to see you.

She kind of dressed that way on "The View," and I wondered about it, too. Thanks, that is great analysis. Z

Z, this is the best news I have heard all week. I can not wait until those two are no longer on the cover of every tabloid and magazine. My only concern is that when the well runs dry for Kate and Jon, that it will negatively impact the children. Just like Kate and Jon, the children have become accustomed to a certain way of life. How will their young minds be able to grasp the hard fall that is sure to come. For their sake, I hope Jon and Kate invested their money wisely for the rainy day that is rapidly approaching.

Thanks for the ratings. They used to post them regularly, and as I have been boycotting the show I wondered if others were doing the same. I feel robbed by Jon and Kate as I truly wanted to see those kids grow up, but it is just too painful to watch anymore. If they only knew their audience all this flaunting of wealth would not be going on. My favorite episode of all time was just plain family movie night with microwave popcorn and a surprise inside.

The bad thing about the # of shows in a season is that if there are about 40, it's going to take twice as long to get them off our screens because only 1/2 of the hour long Mon. night shows have been new, so they are dragging out the weeks. I watched the whole The View this week to catch Paula Deen (naturally the last segment of the show) and she did not even mention teaming up with Kate for a show. I took that to show that Kate is just like Jon, talk to someone about some type of show and it's a DONE DEAL! Can't they be gone?????

They are contracted for FORTY episodes. Absurd.

The TV talk show was NEVER Kate's. It is a Paula Deen led talk show, similar in concept to the View, except the ladies would be "neighborhood mommy" types. At least 20 women have auditioned for the co-hosting roles.

Kate's PR was on super overdrive, positioning it as though Kate had her own show, and Paula would be on it in a lessor role, which was NEVER true. That's why Paula Deen's PR finally came out--they pretty much were forced to -- to clarify It was NOT the Kate Gosselin Show because Kates's PR was overwhelming and clouding what was really going on.

Kate's PR team, as usual, bending the truth far beyond its limits. Just more lies.

I am so sad about the state of television this decade that my sadness turns into downright resentment of this family, and I am at a loss as to why they are now a part of our culture.

At least, I hope their 15 minutes of exploiting their children is coming to an end.

The genre of "reality" television is, in my opinion, the worst trend in televsion programming in my sweet, short life.

I pray for the good of our culture, and for the sanity of the Z man, that the '10s lead us towards better programming.

Can I get an "Amen"?

Thanks for the article. I, too, have been boycotting the show for the sake of the kids and was hoping enough others would do the same and the ratings would plummet.

Even though I used to watch the show pretty regularly because the kids were just so darn cute, Kate's behavior toward them has always bothered me. (Sometimes I'd even have to turn it off mid-episode because I couldn't stand to watch -- "gumgate" was the worst.) Seemed to me that there were very few hugs & kisses and tender moments compared to the rigidity and rules. Of course, with that many little ones, there have to be rules and structure, but I just didn't feel that overall it was a very kind or loving environment -- more like just people in a house rather than a "home".

Anyway, regardless of what I think of either Jon or Kate, the children have suffered far too long and hopefully people will continue to boycott the show and TLC will take it off the air and these two self-centered, obnoxious people will figure out that their kids need them more than they need material things and get some help to put all their lives back on track.

Does anyone know if the Gosselins still speak at churches? I know they have gone to alot in the past to tell their story.

They brought this on themselves. And only they can make this right.

I think the episodes are boring now---just watching put on acting now. I like when they do projects or go on trips

At what point do the ratings get low enough that we don't have to talk about the show anymore because it's completely lost relevance?

I caught an episode of "House of Twins" on Discovery Health (TLC). That family is ten times cuter and more appealling than the Gosselins. I would love to see them blow Jon and Kate out of the water. Even though i think all this reality TV is what got J&K inot trouble the first time.

I still prefer this show over many of the other shows that freely show intimate moments that should be private. I look forward to seeing Kate and the kids.

Z, it seems Radaronline is using your information on ratings as an article and did not even give you credit for the information - LOL.

Nice. Thanks, guy. Oh well, thanks for letting me know, paula. Z

I might be wrong, but I think the speaking at churches is way behind this duo.

Those churches used to collect money to pay for the appearance and then have "love offerings" for each admittance. For that money, they got syrupy blah blah about how hard the Gosselins life was and how they needed prayers and more "donations".

Thankfully, these 2 have proven themselves to be cheap charlatans and the churces probably aren't their target audience anymore. Not enough cash from the peons.

The best thing is that Mr & Mrs G brought it all on themselves. No one lied about them in stories, they dug their own graves.

Plus, I would imagine that the front page edscapades of infidelity and badmouthing one another makes a church door close quickly.

Praise the Lord!

I think it is a real shme that they had such a good thing going and everyone has messed up the best of everything money could buy. Goes to show money don't buy happiness. Jon has really disgraced his own children. Kate may have her faults but I believe her heart is in the best interest of the kids. Jons best interest is how many women he can be with and he thinks he looks good. I think the show is about over now where is Jon going to get his money no job just a lot of expensive toys. Maybe some other women with money will be fooled for a little while. My hope is he has to pay child support.

I still don't understand the dynamics of Kate's family. Not one of them has spoken to either defend or to damn her in all of this with the exception of her brother, Kevin. Why didn't they back him up when he needed the support?

Have they shunned her? But does that mean they have also shunned their grandchildren? I would move heaven and earth to protect my grandchildren. Don't they care how they are raised? Why haven't they filed for custody? Why haven't they or one of Kate's three sisters spoken a single word?

Her father, an educated man and a minister, has done nothing to help these children and I don't understand.

I just don't understand.

Meems, I really enjoyed your post. I loved the simple episodes too. My favorite episode was the pumpkin patch when Kate was trying to sit the kids for a picture...and when aiden (i think it was him) got lost in the corn maze.

So much negativity. If you don't like watching the show, don't watch it. Let Kate live her own life as best she knows how at this point in her life. Give her credit for taking the huge responsibility she has on her shoulders right now. There is nothing wrong in wanting the finer things for herself and her kids. She works darn hard for it and deserves it. Just make sure your life is in check without critizing someone else's.

I'll admit I actually enjoy the tabloid coverage. I suppose its affirmation that there is karma and that they cannot hide from their bad behavior. They chose the public eye and it see's everything, bad and good. The coverage is proof they are phonies and hypocrites. They were always liars but they needed to be divided for the truth to come out.

I hope the show diesn the tabliods continue to report on their bad behavior until they choose to live privately. Of cource the children deserve privacy and normalcy. If J&K were smart they would stash their money. They have enough to give the entire family a comfortable life. But they are fools and selfish.

We do it all for kids! Eeechhh. The end is inevitable. PLEASE DON"T WATCH. Sneak it on the web or a repeat if you must. But do not watch on Mondays. It is boring as hell anyways.

Is see MyFoxPhilly is running the ratings numbers now. You saw it first here, folks! I will say, I'm glad the word is getting out.

The article also mentioned they have 25 more episodes to film? Egads, I think that translates into about six more months. This is a long a painful death.

Oh yes, I forgot to answers that. I think they have at least 25 more to go. If they can keep this house of cards propped up that long. I have a hunch this is going to Kate and Kate Plus 8 before too long. Just a hunch. Z

Egads 25 more episodes.

I have been wondering about whether Jon is presently filming anymore with the kids.

As far as being negative right now. If the shoe fits wear it is all I can say.

I'm now wondering, with the low ratings numbers out, if TLC might manufacture "something" to get everyone's interest and the ratings up? A suggestion that J&K may try getting back together? I don't like sounding so jaded, but there are millions of advertising dollars at stake for TLC and I have no respect for that bunch.

Not jaded at all. I am expecting something as well. Thanks, Aly. Z

Oh Aly they wouldnt play that dirty would they? I never thought of that until just now.
I couldnt resist went to Kate's blog on TLC to see what she is up to. Blog is mysteriously missing right now. It just redirects me back to the site when I click on it.

I made a committment to stop watching any reality shows with children under the age of 18. No more "housewives" anything, no "little people" etc. It was hard at first because I enjoyed the shows, but when Kate said that they would stop the show when the children asked them to, I was screaming in my head, "YOU are the parents. Only YOU can protect their privacy!" Children have no power to say "I don't want my childhood on video that will be saved FOREVER. I don't want to be able to go the the DVD cabinet and show my children how my family fell apart." Obviously these two parents don't get it, but as a parent, I do not have to participate in unethical behavior as a spectator or as a consumer of the products they force their children to hawk.

Good call on no reality TV shows with kids under 18. Thanks. Z

Jersey,

What a great idea! I think that you would make FreeTheGosselin8's day with that great idea. The kids would leagally be adults then and capable of making their own decisions. And, I would hope and pray they would run the other direction.

The only way Kate will leave the show, will be cancellation.

Or, Kate won't leave the show, the show will leave Kate.

Irene, it really wouldn't surprise me. Besides being a despicable thing to do, that would mean they think the public is gullible enough to fall for it and I suppose some are.

Thank you for some good news. I quit watching this show a long time ago and I am glad to see that it is paying off!

I read a recap of last weeks show and it makes me mad to think that Cara had to suffer with a hurt foot for two weeks. Kate could not even take her own daughter to the doctor. The babysitter had to do it. First she doesn't take care of the dogs, and now she doesn't even take care of her own child. She had to film game night with the other kids instead of taking Cara to the doctor. How can anyone support a mother like this? One more thing, I caught a glimpse of a re-run this morning and TLC edited out some of the nasty comments Kate made about Jon. Sorry TLC, trying to repair Kate's image is not working! I know what the real espisode had in it!

Wow, are you sure about that vediting? Thanks. Z

greed, thats what it has ended up being. it is so sad when u look at the start and now close to the end. kate wAS brutal to jon, but he should of stopped that or went tp counseling. all to late now!

I have a feeling the end is in sight for J&K+8 due to the low ratings. And as others have commented here I think there will be another ploy for high ratings. Maybe a reconcilitation?

My second theory is that once the show is over Kate will blame TLC for everything, of course.

Hi Lauren, I think something is going to happen. It has to. They cannot accept any more audience loss. This level ios probably unacceptable given the costs that show is now running with production delays, extra staff, etc. Thanks. Z

Just wanted to comment on Kate's parents. I read that they are the ones who cared for the twins while Kate was on a long, long bedrest with the 'tups and that they organized many contributions of baby items which Kate rejected because they weren't new and matching. Or maybe shiny. Just guessing, but I bet they are "if you can't say anything nice..." people which is why they've held their silence. Isn't there some kind of morality clause in their TLC contract? I bet the network can wiggle their way out just fine if ratings drop enough.

dear "free the gosselin 8" as a grandmother I agree with you, no one could not keep me from my grandchildren, espically the likes of J&K, I think Jodi and Kevin were wrong to, because they were exploiting the kids also, Jodi just got mad because Kate said she could not be paid, and thats when Jodi decided to run her mouth, why didn't she speak up sooner if she knew how bad things were? no she just always said "thats how J&K are" But as you said for Kares parents being ministers I don't know how they just go day to day with no relationship with those children, I am thinking there is something wrong with the whole family, I do not understand with all the bad publicity J&K have had why the state has not stepped in, Kate does not spend time with her kids, she is to busy trying out for the cameras and the rag mags, all she cares about is getting her face on tv.

Jongosselin1 his twitter account is stating he is supporting an autism fundraiser in Philadelphia today.

It has been quite the past couple days...this cannot be good.

How does the 1.714 million viewers stack up against other shows on channels such as TLC (shows not on major networks)?

Do you mean other basic cable channels. Fox News is a basic cable channel. Bill O'Reilly's show attracts more than 3 million viewers on any given night on Fox News. Is that what you are looking for? What matters to TLC is that the show is more expensive to make than it was last year, and it is drawing far fewer viewers than the 2.9 million in averaged per show last year. Z

Perhaps Jon's and Kate's "people" are in damage control mode. The Gosselin antics haven't cast either in a good light the past couple of weeks. It's been entertaining (in a train wreck kind of way) but I can't imagine the TLC advertisers wanting such negative publicity.

I no longer can either. Thanks. Z

Yes Z. They have been editing out some of the more negative footage from the older shows over the last several months. We have been discussing this at length at GWOP.

WOW. You folks are on the case. Thanks. What a wreck this show has become. I think with the ratings I reported this week, this show is close to the end. Z

Found this at TheCelebrityCafe.com:
"Minus Jon, Minus Kate, Minus 8.
Yesterday, Kate Kreider-Gosselin of TLC’s hit reality show Jon and Kate Plus 8, changed her Facebook status: “With ratings falling, this might be the last season of Jon and Kate plus 8. I'm not sure yet.”

I'm wondering if Kate thinks this is a good thing or a bad thing. She'd be free to vigorously pursue that talk show host career she so badly wants (and that she'd do so badly).

Z--the editing occurred in an episode where they went to a zoo and they rode the trams. Kate was questioning Jon's reasoning for sitting in the front because the kids wanted him too and she thought safety issues should have been the first concern. Jon snapped at her. In the unedited version Kate snapped back about
Jon's grumpiness. This part was edited out of the episode I saw the other day.

Wow. Does TLC think the audience doesn't notice? Thanks. Z

If i hear one more person say how bad kate was to poor jon i'm gonna snap!I'm sorry but he should have had the guts to say something to her then. Not run off like a sixteen year old and get with other women. Guess that's why he isn't with them now. WAAAAA! i'm jon and i can't stand up to women.everyone feel sorry for me! people kate is doing what she can. Yes she can be ... but can't we all

As a very conflicted fan of the Gosselins Kristine, I am glad to see you stick up for her so passionately. Someone needs to because I just can't and won't.

For a long time now, I pushed away the sites I thought were trying to just be plain mean about the Gosselins. Unfortunately for the Gosselins the "truth always comes out in the wash" The Gosselins, Figure 8 productions and Tlc started this journey as a "reality show" It has grown legs and taken on a life of its own that any season of "Knot's Landing" couldnt match except Thank gosh no one in the Gosselin clan has died.

I just don't like what has become of the show and the sideshow that is with it. This cannot be good for these 8 children that will have to forge a life in this world after camera's and extreme indulgence is out of their lives.

Neither parent has done the next right thing here, nor the production company or TLC. So, what are we as viewers supposed to do? There is nothing to watch right now. There used to be a time and place that people actually did deal with things privately in their own homes. Kate hammers away at that whenever she is on a show. Yet her actions speak louder than words? Cuz if this is private Why Larry King, People magazine, the View, etc etc etc. And, Jon that man is just got the sense that God gave a billy goat,

I think this post just continues from an earlier Blog Z did on if there is a show with just Kate and the kids. I just do not think there is. Remember their own words, "It might be a crazy life, but it's our life we are a family and we're in this together" or maybe I jumbling the words up. But, the idea is that the viewership is just supporting what is currently going on.

kristine 26 Sep 2:26p:

I am the 1 more person stating how HORRIBLE Kate was to Jon, so go ahead & snap!

If u watched the show you saw he took the abuse bc it was easier to get the activities done, but later on in the couch interviews he did tell Kate to stop. 1 time (when grocery/toy shopping) Kate crazily yelled 4 Jon loudly through the store, & Jon did confront her. Kate of course said it wasnt her fault, that she had to get the things they needed, so he needed to control the kids!

Jon dealt w Kate's meanness & disrespect 4 9yrs. He DIDNT run off w any 16yr olds! He has 1 steady gf : 22yr old Hailey Glassman.

& all this questioning of Jon, what about Kate? Jon told Kate he wasnt comfy w her
"bodyguard" Steve Neild & asked her 2 get a new 1. Kate refused ! For ex, she took a camping trip to Wyoming w all her sons AND STEVE! That is ok w you? Jon has not introduced his kids to hailey, which I think is very responsible. It isnt good to have too many people in/out of kids lives.

Lastly, Jon IS STILL w Hailey Glassman so get your facts straight.

Kate says she is doing it all alone, but she isnt. She has cooks, housekeepers, & caregivers for the kids. Kate is putting on an act now
( look @ her overly airbrushed people cover : http://www.celebitchy.com/67592/kate_gosselin_says_jon_is_acting_like_a_15_year_old/ )
2 sway public opinion in her favour bc for the past 5yrs she has been hated & Jon loved.

The kate sheeple are just sad. They really believe everything they read in the tabloids. How sad.

Anyway, Kind of off-topic, but there is another "reality" tv family that I wish would crawl back in their holes - the Kardashians.

Well snap! Missed it.

Haven't watched since the Hawaii trip - so now they're editing out Kate's hateful rants at Jon? TLC can't erase our memories. Haven't you learned anything yet TLC???

Marie ~ They here's the link to the SS site. http://www.southernshows.com/
Very popular and great attendance. From when I used to go (pay to park and pay at the door to shop no ty) I know that some shoppers head for the live appearances for a break as it's almost the only place to sit down.

Just take the show off already, it's OLD news. Kate is shopping around for something else to do. She knows the show will be off soon. She has absolutely nothing to offer on a talk show. She's arrogant, self-centered and has no experience in that field. She should just go back to nursing although I wouldn't want her taking care of me. They wanted all those kids, so let the parents take care of them. They should have stopped at two, Jon didn't want any more kids but gave in to Kate.

Jane...

Your comment re: making sure our own lives are in check before criticizing Kate is a bit skewed.

Each of us have private lives and that's how it should be. No one that I know professes to have a perfect life. On the other hand, Kate & Jon have shoved their entire lives, plus those of their children, down the public's throat.

They had an opportunity to make it all right by declaring their divorce and the end of the show at the same time. But, did they? Noooooo. They used the heartbreak of a broken family to their monetary advantage. Was it to the advantage of their suffering children? NO.

So, for them now to complain about wanting privacy, while they STILL blab to mags and interviews is a bit unrealistic, doncha think? That scale is not balanced, you can't have the cake and eat it.. you know?

Plus, there are many celebrities who have bad luck, bad marriages, etc and get plenty of empthay from the public, because they EARN it. Kate is very rude and obnoxious to everyone, including her children and husband.

The show will end because of her. TLC has tried to give us a "new" Kate, but no one is buying her facade. Ok, maybe the naive sheeples who walk around with blinders. But, the ratings prove that a wolf in sheeps clothing is still and always will be ..... a wolf.

Whether the Facebook page of Kate's is legit or not, we are seeing the ending of this show, I believe and hope.

I'm not very optimistic that ending this show will improve the lives of the 8 beauties, who have (in my opinion) been neglected by their parents. I wonder what the long term damage is to these kids.

But, at least ending the show will get Kate the Fake off my tv!

Forget Jon & Kate. Watch A&E's show "Intervention" at 9 on Monday nights! It is a real show, about real people and their struggles with addiction. Not everyone has success but many do and it is great to see.

I agree with you, Marie, but let's not forget to put some of the blame on TLC. How conniving of them to drag out the last season, so they could leave the audience in suspense regarding whether they'd split up or not as though their lives we nothing more than a soap opera. Let's be asking how much money TLC has made off the backs of those 8 children. TLC has continued on with the program as J&K flounder in an unfamiliar sea of vultures and money grubbers who take advantage of their every move for the sake of the money it puts in their pockets. They’re both so out of their element that it’s embarrassing to watch. I am in no way, defending them. Kate, especially, displays the same money grubbing aspirations as those she criticizes. At this point she’s getting what she deserves, a whole lot of bad press. I’m hoping she one day realizes her “gift of gab” is nothing but vapid prattle about herself, and that she is NOT in any way shape or form a “writer.” Her limited vocabulary alone is enough of a hindrance to prevent her from a writing career. I imagine she'll stumble through life saying "I coulda been a contender." I hope Jon grows up soon so he can care for the kids.

TLC is not only editing out kate's tirades, they refuse to show the episodes that really make her out to be the shrew that she is - ex: putting the sick, vomiting children on a cold basement floor with a bucket to puke in and leaving them down there alone, while the rest of the "family" was upstairs watching tv. she is a cold, heartless, lying "...". Her cruelty and heartlessness came to a head when she blabbed, with absolutely no inkling that her behavior was off, about locking the dogs up for so long that they bent the bars. And dogs can do that, because i have seen dogs eat threw chain-link fence to get away from July 4th fireworks. I hope TLC cancels this horrendous show - it is all so staged now - how can her die-hard fans not notice this? It is always some expensive trip (with a ton of babysitters, make-up and hair people for her, her bodyguard, cameramen, etc. and etc in tow that are being hidden BEHIND the camera). YUK. And is is so fake and boring her interactions with the kids. There never used to be any display of affection -- now it is smooch-smooch, lovie-dovey crap with the kids. I know it must be confusing for them. And for all of you out there who insist on blaming this on jon, are you nuts? He put up with this crap, and would STILL be putting up with it had she not declared she wanted a divorce, BUT he must stay close by and pretend all is well "for the show, for the 'brand' of Jon & Kate". Finally after almost a year, he started slowing sneaking out - he was lonely and desperate living in a cell above the garage while she flitted off to the spa and tanning salon daily, nails and shopping. I just hope paula dean's people have the good sense not to cast her in that show or that the networks DO NOT pick it up if she is in it. I want to see her go DOWN THE TUBES. Ugh

If you are a fan of the show/if you are not a fan of the show, please do not watch tonights episode. Give the Gosselin children a reprieve. There are good things on Tv. Use tonight 09/27 as an evening to try a new show, read to your kid, take a walk with your spouse.

I watched the show from day 1. I just cant anymore. It is cruel to keep these children on Tv right now, while their lives are upside down.

OK, how this is going to end if he show goes on until spring....Kate will say she made the decision to stop (TLC will allow her to say that to save face)...for the kids. It will be because the 6 will be going full time to school in Sept and just don't have the time and they have other things to do.

Hey all you Gosselin fans. I just got put in the doghouse by Kate. I followed some links from an article added her to my facebook. All was fine until I asked her why either her or Jon was not with the kids Saturday (as they have said would happen on their hit show.) Well, I must have hit a nerve cuz I got blocked. Oh well, I guess it didnt help that I told her last week was the 1st time to not watch a show on tv, you tube or otherwise.

Oh Irene, you're in trouble now. Ha. Z

I'm not sure about Kate's facebook. I think I posted here what she said on her Facebook page (sorry about that), and since then I've heard that's not her page. Any way to verify that?

I will check. I don't think you did post anything attributed to her. I would have caught that and not published without verification. If you are sure, though, please direct me to it, and I will take it down. Thanks. Z

Personally I will be so glad when we will not be subjected to Kate Gosselin. In my opinion what she has done is abuse. Every show has turned into what"What can we get for free this week?" She is so bossy and horrific and her children are beginning to feel very entitled. Those kids have been looked at as a commodity from day 1 so now she and her husband need to take care of them privately like the rest of us do on a daily basis.

I did not get the facebook information from here it was from Myfoxphiladelphia. I am a little computer computer unsavy and do not know how to link it.

Also, the sixgosselins.com website has removed the hailey and jon twitter information.

The "Learning" Channel is really Ripley's Believe It or Not almost 24/7. I have sympathy for the half tree men and people who weigh a thousand pounds, but I didn't come away from watching these programs thinking my IQ had moved up a few notches. Family's spitting out 19 kids and pageant moms putting false eyelashes and lipstick on babies is not useful knowledge. I learned zip from Jon and Kate except what an awful spoiled rotten brat Kate is. Now that I've stopped watching TLC, I feel smarter already.

Last evening TLC aired an episode filmed three months ago, either due to lack of new ideas or the realization that an all-Kate half hour is killing the ratings. Jon reappears alone with Cara and Mady at the estate while Kate spends an all expense paid "working vacation" at a NC beach with bodyguard "he's-like-a-brother" Steve and the rest of the gang. Jon and Kate need to find a 9 to 5 job because it's o-v-e-r.

Hi Kelly, Thanks. I just posted on last night's episode. Please check it out. I felt the same as you, and believe the end is near more than ever. Z

They might as well stick a fork in it because it's done. Money and greed finished them off. Greed kills all deals they say. The folks in our office seem to be fairly unanimous on this one. They didn't like the way Kate treated John like a door mat. They said no matter how much he loved the children, at some point he was going to pop.

Well, its official , Jon is no longer on the show as of Nov. 2.

Z, you are right on once again. I just cannot believe TLC is actually keeping this show going. Also, why would they even consider doing another show just with Kate in 2010? Who is making this woman so popular? Any ideas?

Hi Karen, Thanks. She is not so popular. This is wishful thinking on TLC's part. Her audience the past few weeks of 1.7 million is not enough to keep her on the air in 2010, believe me. Z

TLC just needs to make those horrid people go away before they completely ruin their kids.

If Jon and Kate can't live together I wish they would put their feelings aside and learn to co-parent while being in the same room.I feel for them and until any of you bloggers walk in their shoes try not to be so nasty. The kids are so adorable and to raise 8 little kids and multiples no less is a daunting task even with a lot of help!!

Just been renamed "Kate plus 8" to begin anew November 2.

Who is going to watch this as Kate "struggles" with single parenthood? Please we should all struggle with our bodyguards, nannys, cooks and housekeepers.

I don't like Kate, I only watched because of the kids, but unfortunately, they have become victims of fame - spoiled, unnatural, guarded children. It isn't right.

Instead of plugging reality TV, Kate needs to get back into the real world. How about the show focuses on Kate looking for a job with the other 1/2 million out of work people?

I also watch Paula Deen regularly. Won't do that anymore either if she doesn anything with Kate.

I am no longer watching the show. No interest in all the material stuff they have been given. Many families have raised their families without swimming pool, million dollar home, crooked houses and trips to the beach. She has no right to keep the father of his children away. He has every right to be in the home.

I wonder if they will edit the videos that they are selling too. I have not watched for a long time. Too fake. Not at all how most people live.

I am a working mother and I'm sick to death of watching Kate in her bikini on vacation! I'm not fortunate enough to get that many vacations! I stopped watching months ago!

I guess we are seeing in front of our eyes how low the ratings are sure going!

Good Gollie!

We used to watch this show with our children, when it was wholesome and cute. But over the past 8 months the show has taken a bad, ugly turn. Too many adult-themes causing questions from OUR OWN small children, like: "WHERE did their daddy go?" and "How come their mommy isn't with them?" ... And then when we're at the grocery store my 3rd grader passes by the magazines and asks me, "Mommy is that true?" while pointing at a magazine that states that Jon is a "Dirtbag". It is so unfortunate and sad. I told her that those magazines lie a lot, and not to believe them. I am NOT going to have Jon and Kate's antics affect MY children's innocence. So we do NOT watch the show anymore ... we haven't for a few months now. I want my little ones to remember the Gosselins as a wholesome family with a loving mommy and daddy that God blessed with 8 precious children. They are too young for all the ugliness that has developed between Jon and Kate. And my heart breaks for those 8 little Gosselin children. I wish for them a normal, healthy life. They are the true victims of this show.

I literally had watched this show since the first special. When I first started watching, most my friends had never even heard of it, but started to watch because I kept talking about the irresistible cuteness of this kids. I stayed loyal and even promoted the show, and now I feel betrayed!! I stopped watching when the show become a basic infomercial, each episode was a product placement ploy, and the behavior of BOTH parents have become despicable and intolerable.

Why is it that none of kate's hired nannies/babysitters do not open up about the shrew that is their boss. Are they bound by some gag order threatening them if they tell the truth about kate's lack of any interaction with her children. Is it possible that we can somehow expose her for the monster that she is? Is there any way to convince the View and Today not to have her on and give her a forum for her to whine and cry
