John Stossel leaves ABC News for Fox cable
Longtime ABC News anchor John Stossel is leaving the network to join the Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network on cable TV, the company announced Thursday.
Stossel is most widely known for his work on the long-running ABC newsmagazine, "20/20," where he has served as co-anchor and done investigative reporting.
"John has done meaningful and important work throughout his career. His thoughtful and charismatic style has carved a unique niche in the world of television," Roger Ailes, chairman and CEO of Fox News said in making the announcement.
Stossel's contract was described as "multi-year" by Fox, with Stossel anchoring a weekly program on the business network and making regular appearances on the news channel. He is the second high-visibility on-air talent added to FBN, along with Don Imus who signed a simulcast agreement last week.
The one-hour FOX Business program, entitled "Stossel," will debut in late 2009 in prime time.
"John Stossel is one of the most talented and thought-provoking journalists in the field and we are extremely excited to welcome him to the Fox business team," said Kevin Magee, executive vice president. "His insights on consumer-related issues are unparalleled and will be a natural complement to our business programming."

Wasn't he already in their employ but just being paid by ABC?

This is hardly surprising as Stossel has always been the most opinionated right-wing correspondents on any of the news magazines. In a realm of purported "liberal media," he has frequently "anchored" and/or "produced" stories with little or no research spouting borderline libertarian views, criticizing AIDS research, doubting global warming, decrying lawyers after suing for $400k+, and opposing unions and teachers.

John,
We have watched you for years and always amazed by your ability to bring us the truth on the subject at hand. We are sorry to see you go. I hope that you maintain your level headedness while at Fox as they sometimes stretch the truth, We know that you are above that. I will watch and see and then decide whether to continue watching. Best of luck.

Long overdue. Love John Stossel's work, and though I'm not in love with Fox, they're a better place for him than the big three leftist/populist network news organizations.

It makes sense that an investigative reporter wouldn't want to work at the All Barack Channel. What are they investigating besides Michael Jacksons death?

Well he is following his buddy Geraldo over there. Good for him ABC seems to be a sinking ship along with the other 2 net newsers.

What is up with FOX News? I do not really like that channel at all. My initial thoughts are "Jon the Grass isnt always greener." OR "Foxnews is trying to become Fair and balanced"
I just dont understand. Ya'll help me here what is so great about Foxnews?
Hi Irene, I am slammed on a Page 1 story for print edition of Sun, and am behind on blog. I will try to answer by the end of the day. Thanks. Z

Alan Robinson - All those topics you mentioned need to be questioned and criticized because most are perpetuated and created by the political left. Get out of your dreamworld of leftist lies and misinformation. Educate yourself on facts. Not feel-good fallacies.

Stossel will do well at Fox; he will no longer have to be surrounded by anti-capitalists at ABC. Good for him!

It figures that ABC would lose him....he's the only light that dark network had. I'm surprised he stayed that long. Good for you John! Can't wait to see you!

Folks, what's going on over at ABC News division these days? There's more high-profile staff shake-ups over there than you can shake a 'schtick' at !
As John Stossel is want to say, "Give Me a Break!"
Just days ago they announced Charlie Gibson's decision to retire as anchor of ABC's "World News", to be replaced early in the New Year by news-veteran Diane Sawyer at the prestigious evening anchor post.
Sawyer's exit will naturally leave a gaping vacancy in the Good Morning America hosting lineup, not to mention John Stossel's imminent departure from 20/ 20, he being virtually the face of this familiar weekly newsmagazine since 2003, when he came on-board to co-host w/ Barbara Walters.
Are ABC News brass looking at Elizabeth Vargas as the numero-uno 20/ 20 host now that Stossel is going over to FoxNews?
I have generally enjoyed Stossel's on-air reportage and T.V. persona on 20/ 20; for me a kind of curmudgeon-in-training, w/ a lot of that "ever wonder?" mind-set of "60 Minutes" venerable whiner, Andy Rooney, but without the errant, over-grown eye-brows, but WITH the signature trimmed mustache.
I was touched by learning some of Stossel's early back-story; he having been a chronic stutterer as a young boy, who w/ considerable determination, great speech therapy, and a lot of moral support, managed to eventually conquer this 'impediment', and quite remarkably, go on as an adult to using his voice (and intellect) as a successful on-air broadcast-journalist of the highest order.
I understand that he still does some public-service charitable work for stuttering/ stammering organizations, in an effort to demystify, and put a familiar face on what for years was almost a scarlet-letter, a stigmatizing, shameful condition for many so afflicted.
I wish Stossel well in this new chapter in his on-air T.V. career. I'm no fan, for the most part, of FoxNews, but I think his kind of pushing-the-envelop, confrontational investigative journalistic style might be a good fit for the edgier, yet decidedly politically conservative
Cable outlet.
He WILL be missed at 20/ 20.

Keep up the hard work Z. Your doing fine. I wondered how you kept up with all this.
But, hey everyone ABC deserves a little wiggle room here. They have been on Tv since I was a little girl. Dont go hatin' on them.

Hey ALEX your back. Well then I guess I will see Mr. Stossel on FOX. I watch FOX occassionally to see if it is more fair and balanced. I don't think it can hurt to have him at FOX and might help actually? Might make it more Fair and Balanced?

I like John S. and look forward to seeing him on Fox news - mine and my husband's favorite station. Fox keeps you up on all the news as it happens. Other stations will not let us know the 'bad' things happening in our nation. I never see or hear anything about ACORN group on other TV news.
Posted by: Evelyn | September 10, 2009 8:06 PM
Wait, I am confused FOX news is different from FOX withO'Reilly etc.? Then I will have to watch FOX news to see Mr. Stossel? I can never figure out which is which. FOX news is just the news right? My husband liked the Stossel idea.

I believe the "Anonymous" who complained above about "All those topics Alan Robinson mentioned," was not only too cowardly to list his name but also too clueless to realise that I made those points (the name comes after the post). Alan merely pointed out that Stossel was always a Fox-type.
Stossel's doubting global warming or the need for AIDS research, or being two-faced on stories about the same law suits he partakes of are hardly perpetuated by the political left. I have dozens of conservative friends who find opinions such as Stossel's an embarassment to the human species not to their party. Since you're on the internet where this info is readily available, I suggest you take your own advice: "Educate yourself on facts."
Is there really anyone out there who is not a reactionary who believes Fox News is not biased?

from us at ABC..
good bye and good riddance!!!!

Acorn will not be shown on any network except for Fox because they are tied with Obama.FACT!

John has certainly carved out a niche for himself. He brings to light many of the stories and myths that people talk about in the break-room.
Good for John. Looking forward to this similar style of reporting on FNC.
As far as Fox goes....get rid of Beck, that guy is more hungry for attention than Geraldo.

He's always been off-balance. Now he must be seeking help. Good riddance! Birds of a feather, etc.

Isn't it funny how all the talented and thought-provoking journalists are moving to FOX? What's up with that?

Who cares? Dr. D David Schultz made his career!

More Money or Journalistic Freedom? Maybe both!!!! Let's put it this way: The News division of Fox definitely leans right. CNN,MSNBC,ABC and CBS have had their ships capsize to the left and they are stuck in the mud. With the exception of barely a handful (Buchanan,Will, maybe Jeff Greenfield), the other networks don't even try for a balance.

It takes 6 months to "get"
Glenn Beck. His comic dramatic
realism is refreshing. He is
opening eyes of literally millions of people. After 6 months, you see Glenn's heart
and it all falls into place.

Good riddance to John Stossell, he wasnt an investigative reporter, but used ABC and 20/20 as a soapbox for his right wing extremeist views. He got his nose broken years ago, I had a great deal of pity for him, I wish I had known what a racist, right wing he relly was..Good Riddance
