Jenna Bush to debut on 'Today' Sept. 17

aJenna Bush Hager will make her debut on NBC's "Today" show Sept. 17 and have her first story air on Sept. 18 in a broadcast from Cowboys Stadium outside Dallas, the network said Thursday.

Bush, who lives in Baltimore, will profile Dalton Sherman, an 11-year-old motivational speaker from Dallas. (As someone who lived and wrote a column in Dallas in the 1980s, I am allowed to say, "only in Dallas.")

According to the network annoucement, Sherman "made headlines last year after giving an inspiring speech" at his school's pep rally. Bush was hired to be a contributing correspondent on education stories, so I guess the pep rally is the educational angle. Let's wait and see.

Bush also works as a teacher in the city of Baltimore school system.

I am looking forward to Jenna Bush on the Today show and the young speaker. She will debut on my birthday, so it has to be good.

Is Jenna a teacher or a part-time reading coordinator as the AP report said?

She is a teacher not a co-ordinator, according to NBC News. I don't know where AP got its information. You would have to ask them. I confirmed mine. Thanks. Z

Great! Let the younger generations step up to the plate. Let us see what they are made of.

Sounds like an aspiring youngster too who will be interviewed.

Good luck Jenna1

...does anyone relly care?....jeez

Cowboy Stadium specifically is in Arlington, Texas, about 18 miles west of Dallas.

Yes, I lived there. Very few people here are going to know or care about Arlington. "Outside Dallas" will give them a sense of where it is. That is why I used the language I did. Thanks. Z

Is she in the Balt City school system or some private gig? I doubt she could survive in an ordinary Balto elementary school in an ordinary job.
And what exactly are her qualifications to be a book author and Today show commentator? Outside of a famous name, I can't think of any.

It is not a private school. Z

While she works for a school that is in Baltimore, it is not part of the Baltimore school system. Minor technicality, but the school worked pretty hard to make sure it was its own entity and didn't have to answer to North Ave.

Hi, are oyu saying it is a charter school. I was told city of Baltimore not school in city of Baltimore. I thinkk it does make a difference, and if NBC News is saying she teaches in a Baltimore city school, they might need to clarify that. And if it is a private school, that is a big difference. I was told it is not a private school. Thanks. Z

I think Jenna is in a charter school, is that different from a public school?

She works at the SEED School of Maryland which is not governed by North Avenue. They occupy the old Southwestern High School and operate a boarding school M-F for urban middle schoolers. It is an offshoot of the SEED School of DC where Obama visited.

Does it answer to the state? It is not private, is it? Thanks. Z

It's not even a charter (and I am trying to respect that they don't want it entirely broadcast to the world), but it's understandable why people are confused. The school applied for a waiver directly from the state to run as its own thing, because, as I understand it, the charter law in Maryland is so weak and still requires meeting a lot of regulations (like hiring highly qualified certified staff or their staff having to be part of the teachers union). Even so, I suppose it is a public school, but it answers to the state not to any particular county or city system. And because of this it accepts students from across the state, not just from Baltimore City (or maybe they applied to be a state school so they could accept all students - not sure which was the chicken or the egg).

Meritocratic. Greenwald has a good post on this....

Sorry, I deleted the link. I've had too many with viruses lately. Please comment again with full name of author and website. Thanks. Z

Who cares? Bread and circuses as the nation collapses.

\Well, after watching the Today Show for over 20 years I now have to find another morning show to watch. It's a disgrace that any member of the Bush family is going to have a forum on a major news show after what that family has done to this country and the world.

First Kathy Gifford now Jenna Bush what are they thinking over at NBC?

It's a salon link--it is safe.

Glenn Greenwald. "It's time to embrace American royalty"

A choice segment from it:

"They should convene a panel for the next Meet the Press with Jenna Bush Hager, Luke Russert, Liz Cheney, Megan McCain and Jonah Goldberg, and they should have Chris Wallace moderate it. They can all bash affirmative action and talk about how vitally important it is that the U.S. remain a Great Meritocracy because it's really unfair for anything other than merit to determine position and employment. They can interview Lisa Murkowski, Evan Bayh, Jeb Bush, Bob Casey, Mark Pryor, Jay Rockefeller, Dan Lipinksi, and Harold Ford, Jr. about personal responsibility and the virtues of self-sufficiency. Bill Kristol, Tucker Carlson and John Podhoretz can provide moving commentary on how America is so special because all that matters is merit, not who you know or where you come from. There's a virtually endless list of politically well-placed guests equally qualified to talk on such matters."

Hi TJ, Thanks so much for understanding, and giving the readers the information. I vowed last week after some loyal commenters wound up with viruses that I was not going to not post any links unless I could check them out, and I am a little slammed trying to catch up with the comments this a.m. Thanks again -- for the link and the patience. Z

Z,

If you can figure out a good way for us to use links or they can be screened can we still use them? It feels like kind of having your hands tied when you can't and I enjoyed the links people post. But I understand if it is a problem that can't be negotiated around. I was one of the people that had gotten a virus before, but not being able to use links and read others links is hard.
