The wisdom of ABC's Gibson-Palin 28/7 cycle

Sarah Palin

While much is being made of the way in which ABC will play anchorman Charles Gibson's interview with Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin in pieces beginning tonight as a way to maximize ratings, there is another clever aspect to it that I have not found mentioned much elsewhere.

By airing the interview in chunks across a 28 and 1/2 hour news cycle starting tonight at 6:30, ABC News will also be able to fine tune the editorial content to the reaction of the press and public if executives feel the need.

Wednesday, former Nightline anchor Ted Koppel was on NPR talking about what a hard place Gibson finds himself in, likely to be criticized by his colleagues in the press if he seems too deferential to Palin, or attacked by the political right if he seems too harsh.

I think the situation could have been even tougher than that for Gibson. The exclusive nature of the interview makes him representative of The American Press, as well as a repository for all the intense and volatile feelings the public holds toward that embattled and somewhat dazed institution these days.

But by breaking the interview up the way it is, ABC executives can alter and balance the ratio of what it airs as they go along. If blog reviews tonight say Gibson was too harsh, ABC execs can feature some of the less contentious moments starting on Good Morning America tomorrow. Ditto for World News Friday. And then, they get the final edit for 20/20 tonight at 10 -- after a full day in which to gauge the reaction to Gibson's performance. Not to mention all the different demographics they will be reaching throughout the day and night.

Plus, since the interview itself will take place in three parts during that time period, Gibson can adjust his style to the reaction.

Speaking of instant feedback, I'll be offering a blog review right after tonight's first installment. See you then.

This guy is a morning talk show host not a journalist. Let her talk to Ted Kopple without Carl Rove holding Q cards up for her. But here.......

Will the morning talk show host ask her why we are paying higher prices in the lower 48 states while her citizens of the Republic of Alaska are sitting back on free money?

Will ask her if she is a true communits or just looking to win a popularity contest?

Who would believe the republicans would bring in the first true communist subversive to our government. The left should give this woman a chance.

Last year, 2007, Alaska's legislature approved a major tax increase on those windfall profits of the oil industry. The state of Alaska has received more than $10 billion this year from oil revenue.

Thanks to the addition of these new taxes, that is double the amount it received the year before. The administration of Alaska's governor Sarah Palin now gives $1,200 to every single Alaskan to help them pay for gas. In addition, each resident will receive an annual dividend of $2,000 from an oil-wealth savings account. Think what a family of 7 could do with that money (Gov. Palin has 7 members in her family -- Kaching -- $22,400 per year).

That's a fancy way of describing wealth redistribution, i.e., downright communism. And that is real change we can believe in.

Will she do the same for the Lower 48 states?

Will the talk show host ask if we can all be republics and end this illogial union?

Congrads secession party just 6 months ago. 7 year membership as subversive

If elected, will she make sure God punishes America?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PizrJLV30yI&feature=related

God will punish America – her pastor knows America is evil just listen

Will he ask her this question for the rest of us, on our behalf representing the rest of the country?....

Well, in my state I want to know why Arnold Schwarzenegger hasn't got those big fact checks from the oil companies for every citizen of California. What's wrong with him?

Common Arnie, get us on that gravy train, too.

Common Arnie, get us on that gravy train, too.

Who scheduled the interview? To have it on 9/11 shows disrespect to the tragedy's victims by ABC and also shows Palin's cowardice.

Sarah Palin is a horrible woman, what a creep. You are no Hillary Clinton, Palin, not even close.

Holy cow dude... put down the paint can, you've had enough! Oh, you got some gold paint on your nose too.

To tailor the release of the interview to the reactions of critics is the heigth of a manipulative media. Talk about throwing any sense of objectivity right out the window. And why is the media given such limited access to the possible next leader of the "free" world? If that doesn't raise red flags, nothing will.

The keeping of Sarah under wraps speaks worlds about her lack of readiness for a major office. We are entitled to know who she really is. We want to know: Is he is a creationist? Is she anti-environment? Why does she shoot animals down form an airplane? Does she deny man-made global warming, Did she try to fire a city librarian for resisting censorship. Did she fight for huge earmarks for her tiny town? Did she appoint a man convicted of sexual harassment to be in charge of the Public Security Commision? What about the Bridge to Nowhere that she was for until it was a dead issue? Why dis she say she sold a plane on eBay and made a profit? We know that is not true. In the absence of the facts we can only hope that Gibson will pursue these matters in a journalistic fashion and not just lob her softballs for which she has been preparing for days. Anything less than a solid performance as an experienced interviewer that can go after the facts will be not only a failure journalistically, Gibson will be letting down the voting public. He has his obligations and work cut out for him. Damn the right wing critics, get the facts!

.

I agree with E.J. Dionne, who says that Gibson should ask her not a single question about her family. (Let's all grant that she's a good mom but that that isn't a qualification for President.) He should ask probing, complex policy questions that can't be answered with a soundbite but must reflect a real understanding of the topic. Ha! - what are the odds THAT will happen?

That's what you call SUBjective.

Thank you for an informative piece on the Palin interview, Mr. Zurawk. I think Gibson unqualified to do this interview, but you make it clear that ABC executives will seek the middle ground. I have been concerned that the interview will be deferential -- otherwise, why would the McCain team have selected Gibson -- and I would be forced to curtail my viewing of ESPN, which of course is part of the ABC family. You've put my mind at ease.

basementfrog:

From my understanding re: the windfall, it was comming out of profits made by oil companies.

The cost of living in alaska is high due to the remote nature of the state.

It's not what I would choose, however.

As for her membership of that cessession party, she's been registered Republican since 1982.

Just ask FactCheck.org if you doubt it:
http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/sliming_palin.html

Democrats 08:
Thank GOD she's not Hillary Clinton. Never did like Daleks lecturing me ;-)

Wait a minute. Everyone agreed that Obama had to get use to the hard press.

So why the double standard??? I hear sexism for every question and yet these same woman claim strength????

Let me claim racism and it is downgraded and disrespected as a "card".

Our so called experiment of trying to create a true democracy has fallen seriously ill.

So money does buy you power.
What is even more disturbing is the following despite KNOWING her views that God is to blame for the Iraq war and we are following His lead.

This sounds CULT like to me.
Yet the claim Obama thinks he is the savior? It sounds like she believes she is listening to her.

Regarding the Alaska comments: If your state is too stupid to explore for, and profit from, its own natural resources, then the answer is no - you won't get any rebates. It's not a federal thing - it's a state thing. Libs don't understand that, they think they deserve a piece of eveyone's pie - now THAT's communism. If you want the benefits of being an Alaskan - then move there. I never thought I would see the day when a state that returns profits to its citizens would be skewered. No wonder they think about leaving the union.

When you KNOW Palin is lying or she's not answering the question which Republicans are excellent at, are you going to NOT let her get away with it? And Gibson, you are not a journalist so my hope that you will actually get to the truth of anything is zero.

Since when is the amount and what type of information given to us on a political candidate determined by the publics reaction to that information? That may be politics, but that is not news. The American people deserve more. I won't waste my time watching.

Her 19 year old is reportedly a criminal and drug addict. Her 17 year old has been impegnated by a redneck, She has stated we were called by God to go to war in Iraq. She lied about the Bridge to nowhere, She lied to us about earmarks: Whomever interviews her she needs to be exposed for the failure she has been as a mother and the liar she has been as a politician.

As for the typo:

"The excusive nature of the interview "

I have not seen the interview yet, but I do expect Palin to make excuses for the last miserable 8 years, and try to make the case that somehow McCain is "different."

I echo the comments of Steve re: editing upcoming segments based on the "reviews." Yep, I think it's called...parsing. Manipulating. And scrambling for ratings. Not the best way to go in a democratic republic.
None of this, of course, would even need to be considered had Gov. Palin done what every other vice presidential candidate has ever done: go before the press. Not just People mag and Charlie G. But THE PRESS.
No question, it'll be circus time. Which is why I won't be watching.
I choose not to play into the game.

This article seems to be saying that ABC should edit the TV interview in reaction to blog reviews? Is there no standard higher than that? Is the media bullied that easily? I think we are going to be having the media review itself again 'after the fact' like they did with the claims about MMD and the run up to the Iraq war. A couple of years from now people will be writing stories about how the media was afraid to appear critical of the claims by and about Sarah Palin.

RACISM IS WRONG, PERIOD !!

I believe that even though many Americans have seen some of Rev. Wright's rants, still most Americans don't really understand the true nature of the theology of Obama's church. Right now, Obama is relying on the ignorance of the public when he states that he "wasn't present" during any of the sermons which many of us have seen. Notwithstanding the fact that his assertion strains credulity, does it really matter which sermons he heard, when the basic theology of his church is divisive and racist? I think not. The fact that he attended a racist black liberation theology church for 20 years, and considered its racist pastor to be his "mentor and spiritual adviser," speaks volumes about his character and judgment.

Black liberation theology is a divisive and racist theology, dedicated to, as its founder James H. Cone wrote, "the destruction of the white enemy."

The more Americans find out about the theology which Obama has subscribed to for over 20 years, the lower his poll numbers will fall.
Finally, I'm am very disheartened the extent to which Obama supporters excuse the racism of his church. Racism is wrong, period, no matter what color the racist. As a former Democrat, I thought our party was better than that.

I stopped watching Good Morning America during the last presidential campaign because I thought Gibson was too deferential to the Bush side. I still watch only NBC, or (usually) CBS every morning.

Osama the Lama is perhaps without equal when it comes to ducking and weaving. Lipsticks gaffs aside, he continues to eat most of his own words, constantly revises history, and places himself above his capacity and paygrade. Noooooooooooooooooooo to Obama.

Despite millions from Alaskan taxpayers and businesses to set up
and maintain State Trade & Tourism offices abroad plus State Export Council, Convention & Visitors Bureaus, and State Tourism offices in Alaska, during her ten years in public office, Sarah Palin has never(nada)
headed an Alaska Trade mission overseas nor visited any of the 37
international Sister Cities paired with
Alaskan communities, including Wasilla and Mirniy, Russia! What took
her so long to obtain a passport?
Was she too busy moose hunting,
fishing, at PTA meetings or snowmobile racing? Voters in Alaska
and the Lower 48 need a VP in Washington creating changes, not collecting per diem in Anchorage when
she should have been in Juneau.

Well, I think a simple Q and A would suffice, minus all the political undertones. It's amazing how vehement some are in opposing this amazing woman who represents MOST of average-everyday Americans. I think those out east, particularly those in the media, as well as those in the far western lands of Hollywood just dont' understand why Sarah's message resonates with all of us-- She is most notably qualified--she's been mayor and governor for Pete's sake and has way more executive experience than Obama who's running for the top spot, by the way.

But what Americans like me like about Sarah is her cut-to-the-chase sensibility, her common sense on tough issues, her ability and courage to go up against corruption and vice to answer the call to a higher good--the best interests of the citizens.

I think you will find she has much to teach the 'old cronies and 'boys club'. She's more like US than the elite out east or west. She's an everywoman much like our early forefathers were who simply brought great brains and a fair mind to office instead of thinking they were 'owed' the position of presidency simply because they attended HAH-VAHRD or spent their lifetime in Washington, as Mr. Joe Biden has. We want people who LIVE what they preach, and we got it in John McCain and Sarah Palin.

God bless America and God bless Sarah Palin. May Mr. Gibson be fair and professional and God bless him too!

Even who they chose to interview her is "calculated". They didn't go with NBC because Republicans try to paint it as Democrats version of Replublicans FIX News. They won't go to CBS and Couric because she is a women and people will scream PANDER even louder. They choose the Disney owned ABC morning talk show host to throw her softballs.. probably questions "approved" by her Bush handlers. Its all Bull. Obama did O'Reilly because he has nothing to hide. Let Palin go on Olbermann or Rachel Maddow. Let her answer real questions that MATTER to America's future. Not stupid Lipstick distractions.

If this women can't handle a tough interview how are we to expect her to run the country? How ridiculous. I've never heard of an interviewer being concerned about hurting the feelings of a political candidate or being to rough on him or HER. There's a saying...If you want to run with the big dogs...

That so much depends on a soft intellect television guy without much to go on but a pumping heart and cue-cards, is a condemnation of this Bush country and its nutty electoral system. It buggers the mind.

i'm with hoodlum. Obama is an elitist, and constantly changes his views depending who he's speaking to. Did you hear his family is already picking out a dog for the White House?

Gibson is prostituting himself for the opportunity to be the first to interview Gov. Palin. No wonder the Republicans picked him for the first interview! I have to give them credit; they know him better than most viewer's do. I want an unbiased interview; not an "editorial" dressed up as a news segment or news presentation. That we can get from talk shows, newspapers, magazines, and a thousand other biased sources.
Show us Governor Palin's responses to questions without trying "to fine tune the editorial content" in order to placate one side or the other.
Why should this Vice Presidential candidate be treated differently than any other candidate? A candidate's response to the questions should be heard as uttered, not massaged, gauged, omitted or fine tuned for editorial content. What we the voters want is a chance to see the candidate's position on the major issues as (s)he sees them. This is not a popularity contest. This is someone applying for one of most powerful positions in the world!

I've decided not to watch it. It will make me want to throw something at the TV, for sure.

I am disgusted by the Republican manipulation of 9/11. It feels like a marketing slogan, not remembrance.

For 13 days we hear not a single unscripted sentence.
For 13 days she answers not a single reporters question.
For 13 days she rides the hype of speeches she didn't write.
For 13 days, they waited for 9/11(TM)

To have the first interview occur on September 11, in the context of her son leaving for war, is totally malapropos. I'm sick of the republicans manipulating the attack on the WTC for their own benefit.

I'm going to call it right now : Outside of the VP debate, this 9/11 theatre will be the only question and answer session she will do *solo* for the entirety of the campaign. I hope I am wrong, America deserves to know about their elected officials.

Before you tune into this interview, check out this one of McCain talking about Palin's national security experience. It should make everyone really think about why they are voting for the McCain/Palin ticket.

To the anonymous coward who says that Sarah Palin is horrible woman, and a creep. I can almost bet that you are under 16 yrs old, with no direction in your life, and no clue of what principles of what America was founded on.
Sarah Palin is exactly what this decayed country needs right now. This country was founded on God given principles by our forefathers. In God we trust... One nation under god.
Sarah Palin can bring our country back to the way it was when our forefathers were here.
As for you? You are a product of a decayed society of what America has become.
Sarah Palin is going to be the next VP of this country, and the next President after John McCain. And you are just going to have to live with that, like it or not.

http://whenelephantsfly.blogspot.com

To me the choice of Sarah Palin is an insult to all women out there. John McCain seems to think that women are superficial enough to vote for him just because of the additional X chromosome, instead of because they are in agreement on core policies and issues

While Sarah Palin does indeed have her share of accomplishments, there is no way she is qualified to be second in charge. And given McCain's old age and health problems, there is a very realistic chance he may not make it through the next few years. Any actuarial table will confirm this last sentiment. I believe that there are far more qualified women out there who could be better Vice Presidents (and Presidents!).

It is not clear how much stock we should put in this particular interview. Will she actually be asked questions that allows the American people to truly gauge her readiness for his role? Or will it be a bunch of prepared softballs where she can read from the official party script. Will the editorial process lend itself to misinformation or misleading information?

How can we even consider electing someone for such a high office knowing next to nothing about her and not even being given much of an opportunity to find out.

http://whenelephantsfly.blogspot.com

Most of the people commenting on this page are seriously stupid.

to Fred Jones we all know the gospel of racism is wrong Flat-out ! wrong but, do you think black folks will just say,"look the 400 years of slavery is in the past lets forget it" no!. Also, the issue of segregation was just in the 60's officially. We as black people forget all these past issues that left the black generation scarred from generation to generations. Lets take for the example of the Jews, Polish and other ethnicity that suffered the repercussion of the Nazi ended up getting Reparation till to day. The Germans are paying the Jews billions as an apology. Who! are you to complain that the black folks are bitter about the oppression of the White folks. We both know this things takes time! to heal to bad it might not be our generation will completely heal these wounds. Now, you might run your mouth this might be another Black American trying to cry out justice for black folks I'm here to dissapoint you that i'm not. I'm an African born in the states AND my parents bought their ticket to the States " land of milk and honey". Well, I can tell you this if Obama was a white person with all the priviledges he had their is no question he might win the Election. IF you dont believe me you rem Bill Clinton! and i REST MY CASE!

Happily I only watch movies on my TV. The networks have long since become lame-brain cheerleaders for the administration and the Republican party.

They're either too lazy for or afraid of, honest journalism and Charlie G already showed his true colors at the debates so he was an easy pick.

This convenient arrangement gives the McCain campaign a 'most-of-a-week-long', free campaign commercial and a way to expose Palin without comparison, competition or tough questions. Now she's inoculated against any complaints that she is being sequestered yet she only has to address the questions of a predictable, partisan, Republican cheerleader.

I won't be watching but I won't be surprised to hear that she was provided a tele-prompter!

A propaganda fete worthy of Izvestia and our little TV reporter is so numbed and dumbed by his preferred media that he seems not to notice! Instead he is interested in how 'cleverly' they can deal with the blogosphere! Think they'll surprise Palin with any, rough, direct bloggers' questions?

What ever happened to the 'critical' in 'criticism'?

I could withhold judgment and wait to hear what the public says but you know, I don't have to!

We need to use Mrs. Pallin's remarks on her..."Thanks but no thanks". Half truths, soft questions, calculated appearances, and out right lies. Sound like more of the same to me.

This interview is a joke to the American people and to Charlie Gibson, who is the biggest joke. A seious journalist, Not. I seen samples of the interview. It is hogwash. Her son choosing to go To Irag, instead of choosing to stay home and be safe. Ha, How about in jail. This woman is the American Joke and The Repuplicans should be embarressed to present her to us in this time of our countries great need. I am a Democrat all the way.

Obama, "hard press?" You must be kidding One BuckFilms. He has gotten such a free pass for an unknown that it is ridiculous. Declaring questions off-limits (on both sides) is quite the easy way out. I can only think of that press conference that Obama had in March when after after answering a whopping eight questions, he whined. Is that what we want? Apparently media darlings can get away with being poor extemporaneous speakers, but then again, we all see what we want to, and not objectively (both sides--again).

Where did these terrified wacko's who above write Palin is a communism! The money Alaskans get is a on going event each year as the State has so much extra money and so few people.
These guys above are probably the conspircy group we normal people write off as idiots.

What a croc. Some journalism ABC! How about just airing out the entire segment and letting the public decide. They are supposed to report the news, not artfully craft it and essentially make it. By editing and "correcting" the tape, the American public is ultimately the one that loses.

The president of the Senate is the Vice President. That role is to cast a vote in the senate to break a tie. I want to see gray heir in a Vice President. I see no Palin gray hair. Gray hair speaks of Wisdom. --Take this warning from Shakespeare: "Woe thee O Land, when thy child is King."

You people act like this is the only interview she is going to give. Im not saying Im for her or not but I will at least hear everything they put out there and I will make up my mind on 11/4!

Ah Yes, according to excerpts, she is ready on DAY ONE TO GO TO WAR WITH RUSSIA - great another Dick Cheney - Please watch tonight and judge for yourself.

I don't believe the interview with Sarah Palin should be aired according to what the ratings look like or how the public views the fairness of Gibson's questions. Gov. Palin agreed to sit for the interview, so it should be straight forward and not manipulated in any way. That is only fair. Too many comments are being manipulated in this campaign.

Let's hope Charles can give a harsh and agressive interview and ask questions that matter about the ability of her qualifications to be President, God forbid that should happen. Just being a mom of 5 and Gov for 2 1/2 years does not make her VP material. I hope he can be as hard on her as he is on Obama. Lets keep this fair. I don't agree with the way ABC is going to fine tune the interview and see how the public reacts.
Charles G was so easy on McCain I can't believe he will do a fair or vigorous or true interview. He lets his picks off easy and pounds on the other side. I don't think I will waste my time watching because I won't know anymore than I knew before. The Republicans will probably be right there and give her cue cards.
I bet she will not be able to answer hard questions about over seas problems or solutions or facts or figures. We want to know the truth about what she knows without being hooked at the hip of McCain.
He needs to ask her what her qualifications are and what experience makes her ready to lead the world if necessaray? I saw one qestion on Katie Couric and he sure is easy on her. Too bad, our world needs someone besides an inexperienced mom.

I find Palin's comments about war with Russia to be terrifying. Maybe she is not concerned with starting world war 3 since Alaska was chosen by God to be the last refuge in the endtimes!

Interviewed on the Disney (ABC) channel. Figures.

Mark said above:

"This country was founded on God given principles by our forefathers. In God we trust... One nation under god.
Sarah Palin can bring our country back to the way it was when our forefathers were here."

Oh wow. So, you want us to go back to the days when slavery was legal, and when women couldn't vote and had to obey their husbands?

Not to mention a host of other issues we have overcome in the last 200 years or so...

You are pretty ignorant, dude. Wow. Just WOW.

Charlie you were too hard on Gov. Palin. Nothing but questions. You were like an attack dog..you have totally disappointed me, Charlie. I now rank you with NBC rankings. God help you!

She is already bobbing and weaving like crazy. To Charlie's credit, he finally asked flat out, in exaperation: 'I'm lost in a sea of words... was that a yes, or was that a no?" And even then, she did not answer directly.
This woman is scary.

Next person to interview Palin? Martha Stewart! Because we want to know if Sarah is good baking cookies. I would not vote for her otherwise.

Wow, for a minute there I had to check my passport to see if I really am living in the USA. Not allowing the American public full access to someone that may be running this country? Sounds like one of those fanatical religious sects in foreign countries that tell their people what to do, what to say and what to think. This is wrong on so many levels.

states that drill for oil on their land and off their shores should reap the benefit for their approval and ger tax breaks or lower prices on gas purchases. perhaps you eastern and wes coast people would then start drilling offshore. if what is happening in texas makes oil go up, it is the fault of the selfish east and west coast people. drill everywhere so disasters om one coast does not effect oil prices so much

I am disappointed at the manner at which Mr. Gibson is conducting this interview. He seems to be closing his eyes for periods of time when Mrs. Palin is responding to his answers. His mannerism seems to be putting her on the defense. Mr. Gibson seems to be annoyed and impatient...whats with that? Mr. Gibson seems eager to get back to the Democratic side.....

Gibson, with an assist from his little Pal Georgie (the Clinton fawner) butchered their night as debate monitors. Doubtless that is why the coward Repugnicons selected him for an interview.
What is wrong with you people that you allow the same greedy war profiteers and polluters who hide Karl Rove behind the curtain restrict your right to know just how crazy this woman is?
McCain't, whose brain was kneaded like silly putty for 5 years while in the custody of the COMMUNIST Chinese, who suffers from an angry version of PTSD as well as recurring cancer, will surely not last his term and this stranger will hold the reigns.
They cynically trot out a woman from a female-is-subservient religion and expect it swallowed as feminist. The Denali Hillbillies parade out an obviously neglected pregnant 17 year old and you swallow her leadership abilities. Lying repugnicons immediately point to Pelosi as a woman who has kids yet is immersed in politics but never mention her kids were adults before she ran for anything, Who will raise the impaired child doctors warned her in advance she would surely have? I have to agree that the only reason this woman seems to be in our faces is because she did not have an abortion. Time for those voters who are glassy-eyed at the prospects of this pathetic same-ol' ballot to simply admit they are racists.

Sarah Palin can bring our country back to the way it was when our forefathers were here.

Now that is a brilliant thought, Mark, bring it back to the way it was when our forefathers were here. What a dope. Sheila

"she did blink" important choices should always take some time to think about them.
how much is her words and how much has she been coach?
since she has began, she has stretch the truth, she was for the bridge, when she said "thank, but no thanks" the deal was already a done deal, BUT she took the money. Where is the Whole Truth, in that statement or any statement!!

Gibson does have his job cut out for him, especially since NO one has asked the Dem candidate any "hard" questions as someone above suggested Gibson ask Palin.

And once again... the lefties continue to compare their Number 1 with the Rights number 2 ... apples and oranges ... and Palin STILL has more executive experience no matter what anyone says.

Palin will handle it, and then what? ... the blogosphere goes and makes up more BS about her.

Even the MSM is getting tired of its own subjectivity ...

If Charles Gibson's performance as the moderator of the Clinton-Obama debate is any indication, I feel a lot of "fluff" coming on. I think we all know where this man's allegiance lies and I'm sure he will pamper Palin.

I have never seen a stiffer, colder, more hostile interview. Your body language spoke louder than anything you were trying to say - Pawing and grabbing your chair (Oh yes I noticed). What were you afraid of her lipstick? You've lost this viewer. Goodbye Charlie

I just watched Gibson's interview with Palin. It appears that Gibson's voice was in sync with the video while Palin's was not. In fact, it looked to like her words and the video not only were not in sync but that the voice did not even match the video in some places. It looked to me like ABC allowed Palin to re-record sections of her responses. Did anyone else get this same impression.

Is this news where there aren't retakes or a political ad?

GIBSON POSTED WHAT HE WAS GOING TO ASK PALIN ON THE INTERVIEW. SEE HIS LAST BLOG ENTRY AT WWW.ABC.COM. I can't believe this is how they are trying to play us. We want to know her reactions, comments, responses, not the script from the campaign.

WHAT IS THE TRUE NATURE OF OBAMA’S SO-CALLED “RELIGION?: The problem I have with Rev. Wright's church, is that Rev. Wright, by his own admission, preaches black liberation theology, which is a very racist theology based upon the conflict between the "black oppressed" and the "white oppressor". That is why, for example, Rev. Wright portrays Jesus as black, and his murderers as “garlic nosed” “white people,” because that is the only way that the story of Jesus will fit with his theology. That is also why so many of his statements are framed as black and white issues (e.g. "rich white people"; “world in need being run by white people's greed”; Natalie Holloway was a "white girl" who "gave it up" on an Aruba beach; “white” America got a wake up call after 9/11; the "garlic nosed" Italians in the time of Jesus who killed the “Black Jesus” were "white people"). Consistently making the point that Jesus was black and his murderers were white is very much like the bigoted fundamentalist Christians who continually make the point that the "Jews killed Jesus." We all know what that is code for; that means that the Jews are evil, as a group, and responsible for the murder of Jesus. Rev. Wright, Obama’s 20 year “mentor and spiritual adviser,” is guilty of the same type of bigoted rhetoric.

I would recommend to all those interested that they research black liberation theology, and in particular, the writings of James H. Cone. Rev. Wright acknowledges that Cone is one of his theological mentors, and the church's website recommends his book "Black Theology and Black Power." I have the book, and have read it cover to cover. Here are just a few quotes from the book about this theology:

(1) “To be Christian is to be one of those whom God has chosen. God has chosen black people." (2) "While it is true that blacks do hate whites, black hatred is not racism." (3) "All white men are responsible for white oppression." (4) "Theologically, Malcolm X was not far wrong when he called the white man "the devil." (5) "If there is any contemporary meaning of the Antichrist, the white church seems to be a manifestation of it." (6) "Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community. Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love."

LOL, some of you liberals are fun to watch. You are so bitter and ignorant.

At least it's nice to seem some folks on here know how to use Al Gore's internet for FactCheck.org before speaking.

Paling won't have problems with interviews or debates. She won't just show up and vote "present" or read from a teleprompter. Face it, you are hoping she will say something as stupid as Obama and Biden have been laying out there this week. My disabled neighbor took down his Obama sign after Biden told Chuck Graham to "stand up." Check out that brilliance on Youtube.

To those of you who want some one who is an "average" American, I ask, why do want someone who has no idea what is happening in their lifetimes or in our own countries history to lead us? Who is thousands of dollars in debt? Who has never learned to think critically or knows what a logical fallacy is? What I want in a leader is someone who is smarter than me, has been well educated, and is actually cognizant of the past and the present. And the argument that common sense should lead someone's decisions does not hold water. Common sense is often fallible, and I would prefer our leaders to use critical and analytical thinking when making decisions.

The war with Russia is in context of a member of NATO, Article 5 of the NATO Treaty, had Georgia been in NATO, then we, like all NATO signees are obligated to defend.

McCain/Palin '08! Lets vote for our national security. Obama(like Clinton) wants to reduce our defense. Thank you Jesus for being in control of it all!

war war war...another 8 year republican

Well, I just saw the first clip of it on the evening news. She didn't know what the Bush doctrine was ... she had to ask Gibson something along the line of "tell me what part of the Bush Doctrine you're referring to" ... Gibson didn't help her and finally had to explain the Bush doctrine to her. I don't know but that seems to be a big knowledge gap for someone who believes they're qualified to be in the #2 or even #1 position in our country.

Those of you inclined to the Left: The one thing that scares my in this life is the fact that you truly BELIEVE this BS you put out and the BS your patry puts out to you in it's 'talking points' (24/7 on every channel, in every paper).
Come one people, get the FACTS and make your OWN decision... yes, it's more work, but then you can actually make an INFORMED decision.
In the history of U.S. politics there has NEVER been a candidate with less qualifications of ANY kind than Obama. Would you hire him as a CEO of a major BUSINESS? No way... maybe as the Janitor. You're just sore he didn't choose Hillary (BIG mistake!)

For a change I thought I'd catch the network casts. I am surprised how Gibson didn't understand the "flurry of words" that Gov. Palin said. Afterall, a "flurry" of words is ALL you get from Obama. It's quite hilarious how often Obama has to correct his interviewer. How many times have we all heard him say, "No that's not what I said"? God help this country if Obama wins. Oops, did I mention God? There I go clinging to my guns and religion again!"

Gray hair does not make you smart. I know because
I have gray hair and I am still a 'dumb Cajun" voting for Sarah. I talk to a lot of people in Alaska, South Dakota, La. and Texas that are dumb enough to vote for her too.

I am amazed at some of these comments glorifying Palin, It sounds like the "dumming" down of America.

Come on, what happened to common sense? Palin is absolutely not qualified as a Vice President of U.S. and God forbid, President.

I hope all of you Palin supporters have the intelligence and pre-requisites for the qualifications of a President and V-President of our Country, set much higher than what Palin has to offer. If not, America is in deep trouble. 8 years of Bush and Cheney should bring some some serious logic into Palin supporters life. If you want more of the same, you need help.

excellent attitude in managing her interview. media have been piranhas and bombastic with incisive comments towards her. respected journalist like gibson is a good choice for interviewing her

I've never heard so much hate, mindless words, insane mumblings, untruthfulness, and ignorance than what I've heard from the questionable sound minds of the left wing liberals these last few days.
I guess seeing somebody with real values infuriates those with none.

What makes my love Palin?
1. She is real.
2. She cares about reforming the mess in America.
3. She is tough enough to still care about those who hate her.
4. She will do a great job!

A total joke! Why is the media allowing itself to be dictated to like this. I am sorry for the metaphor, bu the Republican party could very well be selling us " A pig in a poke." The American people deserve to be informed before we vote. Scripted and prepared interviews do not provide a clear picture. Let her have a full fledged press conference.

Here is a line of questioning I would love to see some one have the guts to go down... True Family Values and respect for Life means more than just having the child and not an abortion. It means raising the child in a responsible way with plenty of direct parental (both) supervision, and interaction. This goes double or even triple for kids with special needs. She might be a great mayor, governor, VP or even President, but at what cost to her family. And yes, research says it does make a difference which parent works out of the home (sorry Dads). It would be interesting to see interviews with past "first kids" and see how they weigh in on this from the child's view point.

I watched the interview tonight and thought it was great. I was truly impressed with Charlie Gibson. I thought he would be a push over and not ask her the hard questions. He was direct and her answers demonstrated she is clearly not qualified to run for V.P. She did not come across as competent. I look forward to the other interviews.

Wow. First time I've ever looked at ABC comments. You posters are so dumb. Are there any adults here?

This is the same stuff from SP that we heard from W four and eight years ago -- - but it's done so much damage that a fresh face is needed to mouth it; otherwise, it would be too embarrassing to admit to being sucker-punched again.

I don't like the woman's views, they are from the 19th century. However, how is it disrespectful to show a VP interview on Sept 11? That's a pathetic comment. Is it disrespectful that I got out of bed and went to bed, and didn't spend all day curled up into a fetal position because those people died? They wouldn't want that, they would only want us not to forget them and that we have to learn from that day to always be vigilent about terrorism, without being afraid to keep our rights as a democratically inspired nation with a Bill of Rights. Rights which are inherent by being men, and not rights granted to us by the government, never forget the wisdom of the founding fathers.

will anyone ask joe biden what he was thinking the THIRD time he was caught plajorizing? i know another old phrase mr. obama...."once a cheat, always a cheat!"

in the event that mccain wins the election, is gibson planning to be the press secretary?

Let George Stephanopoulos interview Sarah Palin. He will ask the tough questions.

Why was the interview with "Biden the plagerist" void of the fact his son and brother have been indicted for fraud. Also his son is or was a lobbyist that worked in concert with his father.

Bless Charlie Gibson, he tried so hard to be a real journalist in the Palin interview. She was so far a head of him it was funny. He needs to go back to being a morning talk show host. He sat there trying to be so tough and looked so out of place and so fake.

>>To the anonymous coward who says that Sarah Palin is horrible woman, and a creep. I can almost bet that you are under 16 yrs old, with no direction in your life, and no clue of what principles of what America was founded on.

Calling him a coward with no direction, slamming his age, and assumming he has no direction is exaclty what you complained about him doing to Palin.

>>Sarah Palin is exactly what this decayed country needs right now.

How do we know if she won't give a "town hall" type interview?

>>This country was founded on God given principles by our forefathers. In God we trust... One nation under god.
Sarah Palin can bring our country back to the way it was when our forefathers were here.

If she brings us back to the way it was....
1. Not one woman was even asked to sign the DOI. So I doub't they would have accepted her as VP.
2. In god we trust would have to be removed from the money.
3. There was no "PLEDGE"

>>As for you? You are a product of a decayed society of what America has become.

And you/we are responsible for the decayed society he/she was born into. So give it a rest already.

>>Sarah Palin is going to be the next VP of this country, and the next President after John McCain.

Maybe so, it would be nice to know she is going to do a better job than the current Admin. They do have many of the same views on how to remedy our "decaying"
society.

>>And you are just going to have to live with that, like it or not.

And so will you. Just like we all have to live with the results of the last Admin.

John McCain was brilliant to choose Palin. She has great appeal to the small minds !!!!

Long live Ron Paul !!!!

why is it no liberal blog will ever post my simple question

i am visiting from India. I am truly amazed to find American voters falling for a person and willing to accept her as a leader only because it's a SHE even when this lady believes in the 21st century that George Bush is GOD because she has stated on video that the Iraq was "God's will". Well, the entire world knows that it was actually Bush's will. What a country USA!!! It has both the best and definitely the worst too.

Sarah Palin's interview with Charles Gibson clearly shows that she is not ready to lead America as a Vice President nor as a President. It was obvious that someone attempted to prepare her, but it was to no avail. Her answers were delivered in the same manner George W. Bush answers...like an unrehearsed idiot. I do not use the word "idiot' to be insulting, but in matters of importance, a candidate should be able to display intelligence/knowledge of the topic discussed. Cmon people...wake up...slap yourselves it necessary....but wake up. This lady hasn't a clue and its scary to think that America would vote her into any office in America especially in the critical times we live in. She is NOT a Hillary Clinton! As a woman I am insulted that McCain dresses this woman before America as a substitute for Hillary. American's who are considering voting to place Mrs. Palin in the office of Vice President, need to do some soul searching and discovery why they would consider taking Mrs. Palin away from her infant ( who is ill) and her teenage preganant daughter who obvious still requires much needed guidance from her mom, and place her in a position she is NOT capable to handle. Fellow americans, listen to the Palin interviews yourselves and you ( if you are honest about it) will see that the interview clearly shows she doesn't have a clue...but she did display a demeanor of attempting to be tough, yet she struggled with question on American issues. She is NOT ready!

now I know what her advisers think, but what does Sarah Palin really think? well scripted interview but I'm still none the wiser.

It's now wonder the country is in the shape it is. Reading some of these blogs makes me realize there are some really, really, ignorant people in this country. Obama has a former terrorist for a friend. Hillary stands by Bill when he lies to the country about his relationship with Monica. Until his DNA is found on the blue dress and hers on his cigar. Gimme a break. There's no morals in this country anymore. It's sad to think people believe everything the media says to be true without researching it for themselves. Have some common sense people. Don't rail her and then give the Clintons and Obama a free pass. We all have skeletons in our closets. She's more of the American dream than him. We all could rise the way she has if thats what are dream is. I don't think most of us could go to a prestigous prep school and then on to Harvard. Thats most likely not possible for the majority of Americans. He talks out both sides of his mouth, won't truthfully answer and difficult questions, and served only 164 days in the Senate although he has been elected for three + years and has spent most of that time running for President. I just don't get what people see in him. I'm from Chicago and his district that he served as a state Senator, is one of the worst parts of the city. He funneled $14 million dollars to a slum lord named Tony Rezko to rehabilatate buildings in the district that didn't do much because the buildings were condemned. The man is now in jail. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!! If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything!!

David.

News Flash:
Having the child and not an abortion is "True Family Values and respect for Life"

The last word "LIFE" get it? That doesn't mean dead. The last time I checked, abortion means "dead". Get a brain.

Ok can we stop with the "elitist" thing. John McCain's 8 houses and multi million dollar parking lot doesn't exactly make that word stick anymore. Not to mention his c*nt Trollip wife (his words) wearing a quarter of a million dollars worth of clothes to give a speech. Please people! You are actually buying into this garbage. I'm going to canada. There is no hope!

Tonight I felt that CHARLIE WAS NOT
AT HIS BEST IN THE INTERVIEW.He is normally gracious and warm--tonight he came across as rude and terse with his attitude and body posture. He is better than what he por-
trayed tonight.I was disappointed with what I saw and felt.We do need to ask the hard questions and we need to hear the answers and push until we do-- but there is a gracious way to do that and Charlie missed it tonight. I want to hear the rest of it. Gary

Wow... what a bunch of liberal hate is put out here... one thing though..u guys are under the bus... obamma is definetly on the run.. you cant come up with any argument against McCain that sticks so lets attack Palin... what a fkn joke you idiots are.. Hell even Bidden thinks that a women should be vice president and he running you guys are so screwed up from this Palin deal you dont know wether to "WIND YOUR ASS OR SCRATCH YOUR WATCH....bubba said that.......

When Mr. Gibson interviews "Biden the plagerist" will it be void of the fact his son and brother have been indicted for fraud. Also his son is or was a lobbyist that worked in concert with his father.

Oh paleeeeze! Looks as if Charlie pulled a few punches in the first installment...probably because she wouldn't talk to him again if he was too tough at the outset. It sure makes me feel better to know that she thinks energy is the basis of foreign policy and that as Russia's next door neighbor, she's an expert. But do we really have to endure another public person mispronouncing "nucular"???? Gibson made some progress in his religious questioning, but she was obviously expecting that one and was well-briefed...an Abraham Lincoln quote no less! Her repeated response on the question of Israel's right to invade Iran was repeated about 3 times - obviously the answer she was instructed to give. She clearly didn't know what the Bush Doctrine was. Keep at her, Charlie...you may be the only one who will ever be able to interview her!

She did good but now I remember why I don't watch ABC news. The cameraman should be shot, what a crappy angle to film from. Did they just pull someone off the street to do the filming and lighting? And Charlie Gibson needs to tone down his condescending tone.

I am so sick of everyone who has even an opinion on Sarah Palin concerning her running the country with McCain. Anyone who thinks she's capable, I think is a fool. You've known of her in this high context for nearly 2 weeks, and already, she's capable of running the country? So let me just run up to a guy I've known for only 2 weeks and say, will you marry me, I know you'll be a great husband, because I've really grown to understand and respect you in the past 2 WEEKS! I'm not saying I don't respect her as a person, but come on, can you honestly say she's ready to be our commander and chief if McCain kicks the bucket. Think for yourself once, and stop letting the media think for you!

McCain, Palin, and the GOP don’t want you to know the real situation of the country after 8 years of George Bush. After the Bush administration squandered surpluses left by Clinton and bumped the outstanding US public debt to over 9 trillion dollars, what do Americans have to show for it? The American Human Development Project combed through recent data to assess health, education, income, and many other factors affecting quality of life: the US is TRAILING EVERY OTHER WESTERN DEMOCRACY!!!

To be specific a comparison to the 30 most developed countries in the world will SHOCK Americans:

1/ The US currently spends more than ANY other industrialized country in health care per Capita and in percentage of Gross Domestic Product. Yet it has the highest level of new AIDS cases, the highest number of obese people; it ranks only #21 in number of practicing physicians per inhabitants, #23 in life expectancy, and #25 in infant mortality (Only Turkey, the Czech republic, Mexico, Korea, Hungary, Poland, and the Slovak republic do worse).

2/ Take key education indicators like performance in Math and Science in school, the U.S ranks #25 and #21 respectively... nothing to be proud of. No improvement in sight with Governor Sarah Palin’s goal to teach creationism.

3/ Look at standards of living. Despite having the 2nd highest GDP per Capita of all industrialized countries, the US in contrast has the 2nd highest child poverty rate of those countries, the 2nd highest rate of people living below the median income, the 3rd worst ratio of income distribution between its richest and poorest citizen. It ranks as #24 for the number of people suffering from long-term unemployment, #27 in terms of minimum paid annual leave, #23 for maternity leave, #17 in savings rate in addition to personal debt and bankruptcies being rampant ... you call that a life ???

4/ How about crime? The US has the highest number of people incarcerated in proportion to its population (3 times more than #2 Poland, and 7 times more than even countries like Turkey and Korea), but guess what? It still manages to have the 2nd highest murder rate, trailing only Mexico.

5/ The worse part about this is that Alaska, Sarah Palin’s state has a poorer record than the national average despite the fact that it is one of the largest recipients of federal subsidies ($1.84 for every $1.00 it pays into the U.S. Treasury). This means that the self-proclaimed fiscal reformer who flirted with right-wing libertarian ideas is a hypocrite to the least! She has already been proven to be a liar.

So I urge everyone who is serious about this election to get the facts. They lead to only one conclusion when partisanship is removed from the equation: Obama is the best candidate.

this is bad, lets make no mistake about it. we have a potential veep about whom we have no evidence of qualifications beyond a tissue-thin resume, amid a deluge of red flags and warning signs that she is the wrong choice for federal govt leadership.

im pretty sure the gibson interview will shed little to no light on that situation. lets hope biden gets to debate her into little little shreds as soon as possible

It's a sad day in the world of journalism if "professionals" have to turn to the blogs to decide how to report the news. Frankly, my opinion of Mr. Gibson is higher than that, and I trust the other professionals at ABC will do their best to be tough but fair. For what it's worth, I don't expect Governor Palin to have all of the answers, but I do believe she will show that she's got the stuff of a good leader: character and core values.

Sarah Palin is an honorable woman ... and the leftist liberals commenting here should keep it up. Your comments prove that Liberals aren't "progressive" ... just radical. And aren't for equal rights unless the person thinks the way you do. By exposing yourselves you're leading McCain to a landslide victory! Please keep it up!

This Zurawik guy brings up an outstanding point that I never would have considered (although it is obvious in it's complex simplicity). Oxymoron for 10 points.

Kudos to you David, I've BM'd you (BookMarked, that is)

The interview is not about Charles Gibson. Are some of you so brain-washed by a particular party that you can't comment on the failures of Mrs. Palin's attempt to answer American issues. This is not high school where you stick by a friend you think is cool, even when they are wrong.

Sarah Paulin sounded like a Stepford wife. She was robotically redundant which showed a lack of clear understanding of what is going on in the world. I will not be able to sleep tonight knowing that this woman may be a heartbeat away from the presidency one day.

Front man for Chicago outfit vs. front man for Phoenix outfit. (See, they hate us cause we're free.) So this is a choice eh? Huey Long put it best...."Oh yeah, a Democrat will hurt ya.....a Republican will skin ya alive!!" I think the corrupt guy who actually does know how many houses he owns will shiv me more gently than the corrupt guy who has no clue how many houses he owns. And I am a Republican who owns guns; I like the First Amendment, and the second, and the fourth.....I like 'em all....the Bill of Rights is not actually an a la carte menu. Nod to Obama by a very thin margin. But help me out here....300 million people, and this is what we got? We are a whole lot more dysfunctional than we know.

Liberals are truly a horrible group of "people" as the reaction to anything Palin does being out the most disgusting comments as posted on here.

Charles Gibson's tone when he invoked the name, "God", would seem to imply that it's a bad thing. We need the "God" in God Bless America, like never before.

Mr peabody. You think Barack is qualified? Wow!

McCane himself used the lipstick on a pig line a long time ago. So I gotta ask, why does Sarah think it is a reference to her? Does she see herself as porcine? A slow witted fourth grader would have to conclude that the reference was to shovelin' guano and callin' it sugar, not a reference to Sarah being a sow. But apparently, the entire Republican team sees her as porcine. I do not see her as a pig....she, however, does see herself as a "pit bull", and I think that is right on the nose....a pit bull...a rabid, raging pit bull. What do ya do with a rabid pit bull?

Do we need any further proof of how fearful our once free press now is? Wake up America, before it is too too late.

Sarah is more of a CLONE to George Bush, than John McCain.

The Gibson interview seemed to be a bit unfair in that he seemed to rush questions and interupt in a fashion not conducuve to sincere discussion.
Also seemed unfair to ask and demand yes and no answers to questions which cannot be answered with simple yes and no answers. Seemed as though Gibson was involved in some sort of childish "got you" game.
Palin did come through as being new to this sort of thing which probably helped her in serving to underscore her outside Washington credentials.
Not a bad first outing for the little moose hunter.

sarah palin fought tooth-and-nail for that "bridge to nowhere," even though she tells america every night that she fought against it

lets face it. sarah palin will say all the right things insofar as her memory and political training serve. whatever comes out of her mouth will not be an accurate representation of what she really thinks or feels

her and mccains complete lack of honesty is what makes them the "more of the same" ticket

Palin not prepared? Probably not, she has only been in the race for 2 weeks. But of course Obama has been in training for 2 years, rehearsing and being groomed. Are we electing a decision maker or someone that can memorize scripts??
Makes me worry about the future of this country.

If the Republicans had sincerely thought that Palin was the right choice for VP, I would have had some respect for them, but after vilifying Hillary, whose experience far outshadows Palin's accomplishments it becomes so obvious that all they wanted was to pick up Hillary's voters.

For the party that deems itself the "famly values" party to choose a candidate whose family ethics and actions are so diametrically opposed to what they've held up in the past to be proper is one of the biggest "flip-flops" I've ever seen.

All of a sudden their platform endorses children born out of wedlock.

If Palin was such a appropriate choice for VP, she would have been touted as such long before now.

Purley political move and a terrible and desparate attempt to snow the American people.

What a bunch of pious hypocrites!

Lawyer Who Sued President and Three Justices Targets Obama

American Bar Association Journal -- September 11, 2008
By Debra Cassens Weiss

A Philadelphia lawyer who has sued President Bush and three U.S. Supreme Court justices has filed a new suit against a new high-profile defendant—Barack Obama.
In his latest lawsuit with a political twist, lawyer Philip Berg of Lafayette Hill claims Obama was born in Kenya and he should be thrown off the ballot for lying about his citizenship, the Bucks County Courier Times reports. It also claims he later declared himself a citizen of Indonesia.

Berg’s suit against Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney claimed they had advance notice of the Sept. 11 attacks. His suit against Justices Clarence Thomas, Antonin Scalia and Sandra Day O'Connor said they should disbar themselves for deciding Bush v. Gore, Washington Times reports.

Obama has posted his birth certificate showing he was born in Honolulu to dispel rumors that he is not a citizen. “Maybe Mr. Berg should show us his copy of the United States map where Hawaii isn’t a state,” said Obama spokeswoman Ellen Mellody.

Berg is a Hillary Clinton supporter but he says he is not connected with her campaign, the Washington Times story says. His website seeks donations and posts the legal documents.

Sarah Palin is an awesome addition to the Republican ticket and when the McCain/Palin ticket is elected, she will be a fair, powerful, smart addition to our government leadership. I love reading all these remarks from people who sound like it would be difficult to understand the instructions on a toilet paper wrapper. Hey, genius, her citizens deserve the $1200 per year -- it's call profit sharing. We should have all done a little profit sharing when former Governor Glendening got that billion dollar + windfall from the tobacco companies in the class action law suit. At least he could have put it into healthcare programs for our elderly or a prescription program or some kind of healthcare education. But no. That windfall disappeared into the hallowed halls of Maryland's failing education system with much of it, most likely, going into Baltimore City. Maybe the great new program of PAYING kids to go to school will give an incentive to these kids to findally get an education. Sure, yeah, THAT'S good government. It's the stupidest, and most insulting thing, I've heard yet. And stop acting like God is a dirty word. What she practices on her own time, and her personal beliefs, are a show of strength and courage and do not necessarily mean she will use this to BAPTIZE you non-believers.

" am amazed at some of these comments glorifying Palin, It sounds like the "dumming" down of America.

Come on, what happened to common sense? Palin is absolutely not qualified as a Vice President of U.S. and God forbid, President."

Oh spare me. And Obama is qualified to be President of the US???? No way. 143 days in the Senate and a community organizer to boot? That's his resume. Qualified to be POTUS, the greatest country in the world? NOT.

Ms. Palin is the mother of five children and has a career. For your information, raising children is the hardest job in the world. It requires lots of time, tact, diplomacy, hard work and caring. And balancing it with a successful career is to be commended, not damned.

Ms. Palin is certainly qualified to be VP and POTUS if necessary.

Speaking of successful women, I don't like Hillary because she is so liberal (not quite as bad as Obama) but she is certainly smarter than Obama and certainly more qualified to be POTUS.

If you want to live under Socialism, move out of the US. Personally I like Capitalism just fine.

Andrew, I want someone smarter than you too! :)

I believe Sarah DOES know what is happening in this country. She critically thinks and knows what a fallacy is. She calls a spade a spade, and points out obvious facts that have been lost on politicians for years (you don't abort babies just because there's something wrong with them --duh--they're people--and you have courage to stand up to crooked people even when they are in your own party--duh--crooked is crooked) The common sense quality is so foreign to most politicans and some Americans that they don't know what to do when they see someone with that quality. Most Americans who live in the 'heart of the country' value that common sense above a Harvard education--what, Harvard people are smarter IN EVERYTHING? Come on! You're joking. They just fancy themselves as such! We don't need a snob in the White House who will promote reverse racism after all.

You said, "Common sense should not lead someone's decisions"

You've got to be kidding. Another joke, right? Common sense would have saved 'slick professional' politician Joe Biden from alienating his Catholic base by stating untruths about its doctrine. Any Catholic 8th grader knows the Catholic position on abortion has always been that life exists from the moment of conception and that abortion is a grave moral evil. I guess Biden has been out of touch with 'his people' since the 8th grade.

Common sense would have helped Obama with his silly 'lipstick on a pig' comment. Some of the most highly educated say the stupidest things. So yes, I think most Americans welcome Sarah's fresh perspective and her work-her-way-up-through-the ranks history, and her respect for all human beings, and her excellent qualifications in an executive position.

"Common sense is fallible" ? Sure, if used alone, but coupled with McCain and Palin's experience and vision, we'll be in great shape, thanks!!

for those who are making stupid comments about palins son being on drugs you seriously need to do the research before you make comments. Th armed forces do initiate drug screenings before allowing anyone onto the military. Therefore if he has done drugs at all it would have been tracked back to at least 7 years they use the most accurate testing. Those making up lies need to back off palin and mabe Educate yourself in the details first.

After reading and listening to what both the Democrats and Republicans have to say, I am convinced the Democrats are the winners.... and would not hesitate to eat their young, providing they hadn't aborted them first, of course. Even then, I suppose they would try and eat them.

"When the eagles are silent, the parrots begin to jabber."

Hey there 'Super Conservative'---Doesn't say much for you when you can't even spell "dumbing" correctly when you try to say "dumming down of America" sp. Embarrasing.

To Steve and the others,
I am an Obama supporter, but I am making the choice with my intellect and not emotion. Some of you are really good at twisting the facts. She did not say she sold the plane on E-bay. She just stated that she put it on E-bay. And with all the strange and twisted stories going around, i.e. her baby is her daughters, etc. I would also wait until the shark feeding frenzy calms down. And as far as earmarks, if that is wrong, then every governor in America is guilty. And she was voted for by the people of Alaska, not the lower 48 and her responsibility is to the people of Alaska. I commend her for sharing the excess revenue with her constituents. How many governors can say that?

clarence: i think the obama ticket is by far more qualified than the mccain one

mccain has more years in govt, but not an altogether impressive track record. not knowing the difference between a sunni and a shiite, and therefore what the core nature of the iraqi civil confict is about, is by itself a damning indictment

leadership is more about sound judgement than anything else. obama has shown it unceasingly, while mccain has rarely exhibited very much of it

off to dinner, sorry clarence if i dont get a chance to continue this discussion.......

Palin is entertainment much in the mold of Joan Rivers. Once the fun of all the Palin gossip dies down, and giddy Palin fans get serious, they'll know better than to elect another set of Republicans to continue where Republican Bush left off. Whatever the political party, shut 'em out when they mess up as the Republicans have for the past 8 years. No doubt even giddy Palin fans will wise up and vote their pocketbooks. (The economy is an absolute mess.)

After you and George Steff... last try at a debate that was the laughing stock of America, who the hell thinks you are qualified to interview anyone, let alone a VP canidate? I agree that a real reporter do the interviews or how about just your everyday American, our questions refelft the real issues, all she has done is critisize Obama, her and Mcain never say what or hopw they will help Americans. She should stay home and take care of her newborn and pregnant daughter, she should concentrate on hewr family because she has ignored them for too long.

cheney said it

mccain said it

then obama said it

and suddenly "lipstick on a pig" is a sexist remark?

i hope many republicans will be smart enough to be offended by the lies mccain expects them to swallow. if he is elected, there will be many, many more from both him and sarah "i supported the bridge to nowhere and kept all the funding for it before i was against it" palin

To call Palin a communist shows how much you know about religion. A Communist doesn't have any. It is easy to see for anyone with half sense that the news media is promoting Obama. It doesn't matter what he does he is shown in a good light. He could just stay home and read a book.

Watched the first session. Palin did just OK. Obviously she had a lot of instruction -- such as to never answer a gotcha question directly.

But Gibson's actions were downright bizarre. He leaned forward in his chair in an apparent attempt to cow [there's that word again] Palin, Every question was a hardball/loaded inquiry. Normally that would certainly be considered good journalism -- except for the stark contrast it presented to the Nerf balls tossed with almost worshipful deference to The Obama.

Most of these comments show exactly how lil most know about US History or Alaska History. Some is talking about our resource rebate & the joke is on them. It was your states who gave your oil to Big oil companies look at Cali, Texas, Ok. to name the big oil states. In our state all natural resources belong to Alaskans not the state. Cry babies complain about $1200 we'll receive tomorrow, but it's your own big oil that's has you by the purse strings. Look up where your state gas comes from than complain to them. Does your citizens own your state resources or do they belong to your state or to businesses? Don't blame Sarah or Alaska. To make you "feel" a lil better we paid a dollar a gallon higher than the lower 48.

A balance budget must scare you. Arnie can't help you. Who's state has a balanced budget? I pity you. You want someone who has taken freebees his whole life . He's used to taken & not giving. Do you have children? You paid for Obama's college will you pay for your children's college? Or just strangers so you can vote for them?

Mc Cain has been a senator for over 20 years. Imagine how many smart, educated, worldy people he must know; people from government, people from corporate America, people with international experience, etc. Some of them he must have a good rapport with and could have been a complement to him, helpful and supportive when he needed. How could it be that this man who stated that he would rather win the war than the presidency, choose a person whose only obvious benefit to him is the chance to get the votes that he needs to win. Then what? He showed such poor judgement in this choice. I not only will not vote for him, I have lost all respect for him.

Our first glimpse of Palin sans McCain shows just how unprepared and unqualified she is (even with what appeared to be rehearsed replies). Having strong beliefs is one thing, but she's running for an office that requires her to be a good listener, weigh options, and be able to put herself in another person's shoes. She believes she's so right that no one else can be. To this I say, "thanks, but no thanks."
And why did Charlie's interview style waiver? It was terribly toned down - not nearly as assertive as an interview with any of the male candidates or Hillary. Stop the double standard! If Palin wants to run, then she gets the same tough treatment as all the rest.

Palin's COACHED performance tonight was difficult to watch. From her loose fist for emphasis and her obvious lack of intellectual depth or global experience...saying she is "ready" doesn't make it so. She is a very average mind who will be subject to great influence by her handlers. Not good for America.

Too bad Peabody. Your going to miss this.
Obama's excellent judgment.

Subjecting his family to Wright for 20 yrs.
Ayers.
Rezko.

There's plenty more. What on your list of good judgments?

Look, Palin has people talking. Same thing Oprah does. That kind of entertainment appeals to a certain crowd. Would it be a mistake to vote for any candidate on the basis of an amusingly snarky 'Don Rickles-like' sidekick? Yup. Good government isn't about pit bulls and lipstick. Palin is just fine as comedy/entertainment (as the TV ratings will no doubt verify).

It's hard to believe the amount of idiots towing the Daily Kos line of we really need to know who Sarah Palin is. If Charlie Gibson was half as tough with Barry Hussein and asked half as many questions of BHO as he did of Palin, we all might know something about Obama other then he likes change! (He actually likes pork barrel spending, having thugs finance his real estate and listening to racist preachers who he says he won't disown but does.)

The farce that is the American left has been exposed by Palin's nomination. It's all about the women? Unless they are conservative Christians. We can shatter the glass ceiling? Unless there's an R after her name. If Gibson were any more condescending and downright hostile to Palin you'd think he was working at moveon. Love the drive by media. Did you watch Gibson's hand on the arm of the chair. It wouldn't stay put. His foot was twitching as soon as she would answer. He didn't even care what she said. Nice liberal hit job. Too bad she held her own. He dummy liberals, you are going against McCain, not Palin. And since you're all so elitist toward her, why let her bother you anyway. Oh that's right, because she means the end of your Obama change fraud.

You people are in a panic because you're threatened. It's great to see. I hope you all get four more years of Republicans in the White House and a big surprise of getting the do nothing Dems out of the Congress as well. If a Dem gets in the White House and you guys control Congress then I'll have to stay out skyscrapers for a while.

ABC will be able to "fine tune the editorial content to the reaction of the press and public if executives feel the need?" Gibson finds himself in a hard place, "likely to be criticized by his colleagues in the press if he seems too deferential to Palin, or attacked by the political right if he seems to harsh?" Since when has journalism become a forum for popularity? I know this is nothing new, and I should be less surprised and more jaded by the whole thing, but I can't help but wonder why we Americans are content with this setup? Has cynicism really made us this agreeable?

You think she's entertainment now? Wait until Saturday Night Live has its fun with Palin! LOL

I thought the news was suppose to give the public information. Instead, an altered version of an interview is misleading. How can we make an informed decision about the person who's going to 2nd (or 1st) in charge? And by the way, if there was a time to be harsh wouldn't this be the time folks?!?!

The are some serious whack jobs posting on here, you think this woman is a good thing for the left ?Look at what GWB is doing and the Fed, bailouts are not American, free market or capitalistic, let Bearn Stearns, Freddie and Fannie and lehman fail ike they deserve too fail.

The entire GOP is bent on changing America alright, change it into their own personal piggy bank.

To Fred Jones your an idiot and a racist. The middle class is non-existent, the economy is in the toilet, were in the middle of 2 wars, spending 350 million a DAY n the war the deficet is unreachable, there are no more jobs in America, nothing but lies that got us into the war, Bush and his cronies are liars, they dont care about us, and they pretend to be so religious it makes me vomit. If mcain and Palin get in then there is no hope for America we wil go back to the 20th century. Oh Yea, have you heard Mcain and Rove have started to send out PHONY ballots in Mi. check it out. How can anyone in there right mind think that John Mcain is any different then GWB? Get a flipping brain

Blog Author, I found you on Google News. Perhaps you are swamped but my modest submission of over an hour ago was tame compared to what I'm seeing posted now. What's up with that?

Hello, Is it posted now? I rarely delete anything unless it is hate speech. I have been away for a couple of hours. Back on now. Please let me know if you were posted. If not and still have a copy, please send again. I was so swamped, it might have been deleted by mistake. Thanks.Z

Wow - if Palin was coached and gave those answers - that is really scary. She threathened to go to war with Russia (she can see it from her house), Pakistan, and support Israel to invade Iran without asking questions. Gibson was as hard as he could be (she was so obvious unqualified to answer his questions) - I thought he was smart to start tonight with her foreign affairs knowledge - now the rest doesn't matter. 1 1/2 years as Governor - I guess Alaska doesn't require smart leaders.

Try and get a straight answer from John Mcain, keep trying!! I cant believe ther are still people out there th want another 4 years of BUSH what is wrong with your minds. We are the laughing stock of the free world and you rightys want another 4 more of the same? I can tell you one thing if they do cheat enough to win this election we'll be in WW3 within 2 years, you Morons

I personally thought the scariest statement that she made repeatedly was you can't blink. I'd prefer someone that can think things though in a logical manner over someone who thinks that you react first and worry about it later.

For the record, I am a 50 yo white woman who was leaning towards McCain until he added Palin to the ticket. I am deeply offended that McCain thinks for one second, that Palin is qualified to do the job of VP and or President.

Furthermore, I think that the interview was edited to the max. And not very well either. I agree with whoever blogged earlier. Palin's words were not always in sync with her lips.

Lastly, step it up Charlie. This may be the only interview she does. You asked some good questions but you let her off without answering some of them. Palin did tend to repeat the same responses over and over. It proved she can learn her lines, but can she think on her feet?

This is such an important time. I want to see the campaigns focus on the issues instead of on Palin. Stop the lies and stick to the issues. Run a clean campaign. I've lost all respect for McCain. What happened to him?

28/7 cycle? Do they not notice that this is exactly the days of a menstrual cycle?
28 day cycle, 7 days of bleeding. Who's the joker?

The Republicans are branding as "sexist" anyone who questions Palin's record. By the very same strictly parallel logic, does it not follow that anyone questioning Obama's record, must, by that very same parallel logic, be a "racist?" I submit that if one accepts the former, one must also accept the latter. Obviously, neither one is true, but it makes one wonder just how stupid these Republican charlatans think we are. By the way, I am a Republican, I own guns; and I do not want Democrats messing with my guns, and I do not want Republicans sticking their beak in either. What ever happened to the Reagan mantra "less Guvmint?" We now have 16 agencies spying on us, and that is only those on the books. No one even knows how many OTB agencys even exist. The Republican brand is so tainted, that in my area, the local pols will not even print the word "Republican" on their campaign posters. The brand is so tainted, it will go the way of the Whigs. And their savior is a self-described pit bull? I saw a story the other day about a run amok pit bull shot by cops as it attacked an old lady. Their Great White Hope is someone who likens herself to a rabid dog? Like the Whigs my friends, like the Whigs, consigned to the trash heap of history.

not to mention, that by stretching the one solitary interview even granted by the mccain camp over the course of three days, doling out this limited access piecemeal, they get to eke out another extended sequestering of palin

all you leftist morons keep saying how Palin isnt qualified to run a country.. what about yobamma ??? how in the hell do you think he is qualified... you all keep ignoring the facts.. Palin is running for VP yobamma is running for Pres.. She is by far more qualifed than him and yet you keep attacking her.... shtthfkup and take your loss like you are going to get and go count some chads or disenfranchised voters or something... speaking of disenfranchised voters I never heard anyone gripe during the DNC when Hillary disenfranchised every single delegate from casting their voter for either candidate by totally bypassing the voting process to make it look like unanimous decission for yobamma and totally ignoring the voting process... what a bunch of crap and not one of you morons said anything about it.....

Why the back and forth? Go out and search for this stuff yourself. Certainly some of the stuff about Palin is true. Most of it isn't. It's more convenient to believe the lies because they fit your beliefs versus educating yourself and not voting party lines for once in your life.
Face it, if you're a democrat, they could come out with news that Obama murdered his sister and you'd still make up some of excuse. The same goes for the other side.
It is sickening that you don't have the gumption to get off your duffs, do a little research and find the candidate who isn't just about gay rights, or isn't. Who isn't just about abortion or isn't.
But what am I saying? You'll all let it go in one ear and out the other.
One last thing. I don't see anything wrong with praying to God for guidance. It certainly beats putting faith in the media, government, etc. The majority of the world's population believe in a higher power. So tell me why we are the dumb ones?

"Hooray for Our Side", to summarize some of the comments in this venue, is not, technically speaking, an actual argument. An actual argument would include logic, citations, references, etc, and would pertain to an actual issue, i.e. The Economy, The War, Taxes, The Government sticking it's protruding proboscis into your bedroom, gun cabinet, librany selections, etc. The terrorist card has been played out. The lipstick saga, change vs. status quo, support the bridge, oppose the bridge, are all what are known as Red Herrings. We learned that stuff back in grade school....red herrings, and of course the Straw Man--like Poppy Bush back in '88 and '92 with the Flag Burning non-issue. Has anyone out there ever personally witnessed anyone torching Old Glory? Of course not. But by gum, it sure frosted old Poppy's fanny enough to make it a centerpiece of his campaigns. Do not get caught up in these non-issues. It's about the money, and it's about Government existing at the pleasure of the Citizenry, not the other way around.

If Biden farted, do you think anybody would know? Much too much is made of Palin. As far as the election, the focus is on obama and mccain. mccain definitely has more experience than obama. But obama says mccain will be 4 more years of bush. I always laughed at hillary. If it was a rainy day, she'd say it's bush's fault. .. hoping that the stupid americans never heard of the senate or the house. Yes the buck stops with the prez, but Congress can determine where the buck goes alot easier than the president can. At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter which candidate's ideas are better. They both make promises without the approval of a congress they don't know whether it will be democratic or republican controlled. It's funny how both candidates talk about getting congress to reach across the aisle. The first presidential action should be to shuffle congress. Have the dems and the reps sit next to each other. Maybe then, they'd have to work together. Don't knock it... it worked in "Remember the Titans" ..a little light humor there

Obama has much less credits than Palin and he is a president nominee and she is a vice- president nominee. Why the media and liberals never ask Obama these tough questions of foreign affairs? It is not fair!

What is wrong with “God will?” What do you think about the words “God bless America”? It means God supports our war against terrorism! What is wrong for Palin to think this way?

Should we tell Russia that no matter what they do, we’ll never have a war? Liberals and media, you forget how President Kennedy handled the Cuba missile crisis! Russia has told us “We do not afraid of going back to the Cold War!” Should we say “Dear friend, we do.”?

This interview shows that Palin is a qualified vice-president nominee, but Gibson is a biased news reporter. He looks like being sent by Obama’s team.

I have always voted for Democrats before, but this time I will vote for McCain and Palin.
I was a loyal ABC news watcher, but I will not watch ABC news anymore, if they don’t change their liberal bias.

"Repition is the mother of skill." Tony Robbins "Repition is the mother of skill." Tony Robbins "Repition is the mother of skill." Tony Robbins "Repition is the mother of skill." Tony Robbins..... Post it once, and leave it at that.

I agree.... look at all these people on here with no life posting all these know-it-all discertations. What a joke!

SHAME ON YOU ABC AND CHARLIE GIBSON... Mr. Gibson, you gave journalism a totally new meaning; its called Left Wing Bias.. You wonder why you are losing viewers to Fox News; well, Mr. Gibson is a perfect example of that bias.
I certainly didn't hear him ask Mr. Obama any questions of this type nor did he use the negative body language that he used with Sarah Palin. I was appalled with his interviewing techniques and his condensending, rude.demeanor.
Well, Mr. Gibson, we now know who you'll be voting for.

Thank you for this thread and allowing me to vent my dissatisfaction with ABC, CBS and NBC, especially with Mr. Gibson who I thought was above this type of tripe, I guess not..

I will now go and change the channel to Fox New and turn-off this garbage.

I just saw part of Palin's interview, she is a nightmare. It just shows that what McCain really cares about. The country, or an election? It is very clear, he has no clue what is going on in this country, he doesn't even know how many houses he has. I just hope that people who are following McCain and Sarah will realize sooner then late.

the beauty is, the louder the dems and libby scream, the more it must hurt.

and the pain comes from giving up the cool 60's concept that 'God is dead'.

I do agree with Eamuscatuli. way way way to much gov't. however, this is easily solved, deport the 14MM illegals and return the muslims to their culture.

How many airport checks did we go through before they were here exactly ?

To all of those people who think they want to vote for McCain because Palin is "someone they can relate with." Look, we already tried that with Bush. People voted for him because he looked like he'd be fun to drink with. He may well be fun to drink with, but he trashed the country. I like the Dallas Cowboys, I'm glad they have T.O. He may be a douche, but he's the best receiver out there. If the cowboys put a little Jewish guy on the field, sure I could relate to him better, but THE TEAM WOULD SUFFER. When did being "elite" become a bad thing? What's wrong with being good at what you do? My president better damn well be elite. Can someone please explain to me the other side of this? Is my logic wrong? I really want to know because it confuses me how half the country wants joe - (or jane) six pack as their president. Trust me: this is a bad idea. You do not want a president who is like you - because chances are you are average. I want my president to be ABOVE average. I'm sick of having C students in the white house.

Gibson was a snot. His condescending tone and attitude were embarrassing. No doubt he would speak to Joe Biden that way. No need for me to watch any more.

why is this 'wisdom'? why is it a good thing that charlie gibson and ABC have the opportunity to curtail news and information for ratings and public approval? this is the worst possible scenario for journalism, likewise our country. especially in this crucial period in american history. you've got to be kidding me. this article made me sick to my stomach.

If only I knew she was going to screw that interview I will never have vouch to make her the VP. I am a republican but, im not voting for that din-bag Sara Palin. She such an empty barrell MY God!

I just love the angry, immature and ignorant comments of many of the Obamanites. They have to use vulgarity to get their point across. Palin did fine in her first interview. If she was tentative remember the media has been playing along with the vitriolic slandering of her by airing mindless and unfounded rumors designed to humiliate her. Remember Obama has been given a pass by the media for most of his campaign, just ask Hillary. I'm a conservative Democrat who is disenchanted at the way the media is assisting Obama in his run for the presidency. If Obama gets elected, we'll have one of the most unaccomplished candidates ever to become president.

She is not qualified. She is ignorant of world affairs and international relations. There is no requirement to entangle our country in a pointless alliance with Georgia through NATO on the basis that Georgia has a pipeline running through it. She has her facts wrong. It was Georgia that attacked Ossetia at night in full force on a enclave that borders Russia whose ethnicity is Russian. The Russians were provoked to respond to protect their own.Why would the vice-presidential candidate contemplate starting a war with a nuclear-armed country? What is this mission that she speaks about? Is she referring to a "mission from God" ? Quite scary.

Watched both interview pieces so far. Yes, it was greatly edited, sometimes so that the question and answer were different. I was appalled at Charlie Gibson's manner, his choice of words(existential was used at least 3 times) Who was he trying to impress? And the definition of the Bush doctrine-- everyone has a different take on it. And I never heard of it by that name. I feel like an idiot. Now, I won't watch MSNBC or ABC--- both are too biased!

stop crying, when fox critized obama you didnt hear many white folks cry,now that palin, your great white hope ,has shown her inexperance you got your fruit of the looms,or blummers in a knot.face it mcain picked her as a diversion, and it worked for a while, but now that she has to answer questions the excitment is waring off quickly, and the more she reveals herself the less effective she is as a vice presidental pick, but thats what happens when you make hastey choices, maverks have a dark side too, they can f...up your world with terrible results

gibson did what he was supposed to do,what reporters do..dont cry now that palin has shown she is not as qualified to even be a vise president,no less the president...give her 3 more years then maybe she will be ready...obama is ready right now hes been threw the fire

If McCain and Palin win then women can kiss their reproductive rights goodbye because the Republicans will nominate Supreme Court Justices who will destroy women's reproductive rights.

Palin is a far right wing conservative. She is the exact opposite of Hillary Clinton on the issues.

VOTE FOR BARACK OBAMA AND LETS GET A DEMOCRAT WIN IN NOVEMBER!

Good job, Charlie Gibson! You did a great job of interviewing Palin. Keep up the good work. She did not even know what the Bush doctrine was. She is clueless and her uninformed views of foreign policy is scary. I hope the American people realize that now. You were fair with her. It was her idiotic answers and uninformed views that made her look so bad.

VOTE FOR BARACK OBAMA AND LETS GET A DEMOCRAT WIN IN NOVEMBER!

Are you kidding me?!

BO is far less prepared to be the alderman in my home town than Sarah Palin is to be VP.

Shame on the arrogant and attitudal Charlie Gibson for being so condescending to am American who WANTS to serve our nation.

Where was Charlie Gibson's attitude when he was covering the debates with the mose ill-qualified candidate we have ever had in the history of the US running for President?

The male dominated, sexist and overtly rude to women MSM media needs to be called down.

Guess what guys, "You would not have been born without women".

I don't think the interview should have been aired on 9-11.

Palin and ABC stepped on 9-11.

Sara Palin has an 80% approval rating the higest of any politician in the country, maybe of all time in the US. A rating that high means EVERYONE IN HER STATE, both Dems and Republicans approve of her policy. She should make this point every time she is asked a stupid question where the interviewer wants to play GOTCHA! All the talk about no one knowing Palin is BS. The people of Alaska Know her very well.

To all of you who want to go back to the Reverend Wright issue it is stupid. It is a way for you not to look at your candidate but try to disparage the other. Furthermore I am not sure how Obama would preach separatist when his mother is white, his grandparents that raised him are white. Wouldn't he have to break all ties to his white family which happens to be the only side he knows.

Lets stick to the issues and ask these candidates what they will do for us. Ignore color, ignore race.

The truth is if Palin were a man and I have seen alot of men treated the same on interviews we would not be discussing whether the Charlie Gibson seemed harsh.

LETS GET OVER THE BS.

I have always admired Charlie Gibson as a journalist until now. Sell out. Such a scripted "lets get her" mentallity. Lets make her stumble and really test her ability to serve. "How did I do guys, did I do what you wanted me to do. Did I nail her." I can't wait to see the rest to the interogation. Check out his interviews with Barry. How gentle and congenial he is. How inept at asking questions about his qualifications. What no tough questions. What a joke.

To Mark, and all the other Palin supports: What a Freaking JOKE! She sounded like a high school kid unprepared for a final exam! She sounded like she just crammed the night before and was so nervous you could see it in her face. This woman was unprepared for this interview...how do you expect her to be prepared to be VICE president, or maybe even president one day!???! If McCain and Palin win, this country is headed down the tubes. Gibson showed more knowledge on Foreign Policy and National Security than Palin did! Obama will kick McCain's rear in the debates, and Biden will walk all over Palin. Palin is a bafoon. She needs to spend some more time cramming for her exam if she wants to do anymore interviews!

Ask not what your Country can do for you, but what you can do for your Country.

Facts are Facts.
Like it or not, McCain himself and Palin's family members have served and honored their country!

TRUE HEROS OF COURAGE!
If the Status Quo is Courage-- then let Courage rule!

We really need to work on being Americans. I got a feeling one day soon while we are all bickering we will find ourselves attacked in a very serious way. I think what the Terrorist have in store for us next will finally bring a reality to this country the likes of what has never been seen before. A wise man said "prepare for the worst and hope for the best". Ask yourself are we doing that?
I think we must have more debates and less verbal assault from both sides. The American people are fed up with this crap. We want honest leadership.
If one looks at Gov. Palin honestly it is fairly easy to see accomplishment, values, and good government from her.
At the end of the day lose the hype and she is a descent women and you should try to be himan beings and treat her that way.
For the rest of you I say "Do you talk to you mother with that mouth".

Reading these comments really have me scared for this country's future .... people are idiotic, rude, insulting and a lot act like lemmings. First, the "Bush Doctrine" is a term that was made up by the media to cover Bush's entire foreign policy ... so Palin's question of "which part are you referring to?" was a valid question. Even if you are a flaming democrat, you will have to admit, Gibson's attitude was definitely condescending. All that aside, I actually like Barak Obama .. wouldn't mind living next door to him.... I don't really like McCain .... but I will vote for McCain based on what I have heard because Obama is going to have a democratic congress in his pocket and I think they have made it clear they want to turn this country into a socialist country. The United States was formed on the principle of small federal government and more control at the state level... It's right there in the name "United STATES" ... the real turner for me was when Obama chose Biden as his VP ... how can he be the "candidate of change" with that guy as his VP ... now, how about that, I told you why I would vote for someone over another and never called anybody a "redneck" or used the "F" word .... people are a lot braver behind a keyboard :)

Hey Mr. Hurd you replied to me:

David. News Flash:
Having the child and not an abortion is "True Family Values and respect for Life"

The last word "LIFE" get it? That doesn't mean dead. The last time I checked, abortion means
"dead". Get a brain.

If you are going to quote my post don’t edit my sentence to twist its meaning...
I said “True Family Values and respect for Life means more than just having the child and not an abortion.” The key word in there is MORE. Any one can have kids but it takes hard work, dedication and lots of attention to raise them in a responsible way. I have worked in K-8 education for 23 years and any teacher can tell you that there are kids in their classes whose parents don’t value or respect them. These are the types of kids who seek love and attention in ways that often lead to drug abuse, early sexual activity and pregnancy, or other social outbursts.

I personally don’t like either final ticket. I just take offense and think that Palin’s rhetoric on being pro life would be stronger if she included statements about helping women who decide not to have an abortion raise those children in a responsible healthy environment, or provide assistance with adoption options

I think it's rediculous that the "performance" of the interviewER matter more than the answers of the interviewEE. Gibson was a typical liberal media hack trying to "catch" Palin in a "gotcha" moment, and he failed miserably. There is NO "Bush Doctrine". The reason Palin asked for clarification and the reason Gibson couldn't answer her queries as to what Bush Doctrine he was referring to is because there isn't ONE. Trying to make her look inept only made him look like a hack and disingenuous. How come Gibson never asked NObama if he felt HE was truly ready/ qualified to be PRESIDENT, like he asked Palin about being VP? What an ass he is, I completely lost any respect for him, or what little there was to begin with.

man-up palin, man-up, her interview with charlie was whack.

Two weeks after being named the VP candidate, this is the first interview Mrs. Palin has given. After viewing it, I can see why. She was incapable of giving a straight answer to almost every question presented to her. That is just scary. Scarier still are those who were impressed by her 'flurry of words'. Charles ('Charlie') Gibson's exasperation was clear, for very good reason. I am a woman. I would love nothing more than to see a woman in a position of authority in the White House. Just not THIS woman. Ever.

i don't expect sarah palin to know all of the answers. no government official or politician can ever claim to know it all. and i'm sure, whether america has a mccain or obama presidency, the president and his vice-president will have experts surrounding them that will give them the take on everything they need to know. america is electing its president and vice-president. it isn't out to vote a walking encyclopedia or a human internet. what this election is about is change or reform, it depends on what color of the political ticket you are with... but ultimately, it's about giving americans a new direction in more difficult times ahead: the difficulties of raising a country back to its feet.

Don't deny the facts. ABC cut and pasted the interview then Gibson stated "exact words" that were not. He then, was the one who MISSTATED the Bush Doctrine, of which there have been four versions. Stating "exact words" when you know they are NOT, is cause for a slander/libel suit and ABC would lose this if it were in court. Election tampering would be my view, RICO, conspiracy, and every other mob charge should be asserted against Gibson personally and ABC along with the rest of the media jackasses who are complicit in the efforts to continue to defame this candidate under the pathetic attempt at plausible denyability.

The sheer disdain that was evident on Charles Gibson's face during the clearly slanted interview with Governor Sarah Palin places him squarely in the company of MSNBC's Chris Matthews. So much for his being a serious journalist. I guess ABC has chosen to be an Obama campaign arm rather than a serious source of information. Your acronym should now be Absolutely Biased Commentary.

Im a conservative and if we send Palin to the White House, we're doomed to create a country that is hated most in the history of the human race. We need a conservative candidate but we don't need a person whose action doesn't truly represent the values of this great country. And please, Gov. Palin, keep your mouth shut when it comes to foreign policies and relations. You don't know nothing. In our conservative views, we strive to unite the world with tolerance and respect for others' views. Palin will only make the world more divided. We stand strong for our values but we need a better executive to do the job. Palin is not the one.

The press at it best..HA HA. Charlie how does it feel to be beat by a girl?? Keep up the good work Sarah, you have my vote. There really are people out there that can think for them self and see the press for they really are. Let show them again this NOV.

The fact that Sarah Palin could be president in the not-too-distant future is crazy to think of. She has only been governor of Alaska (4th smallest U.S. state) since November of 2006, and if anything happens to McCain, she will be prez. Why McCain chose her as a running mate is proof of how unusual and unconventional politics can be.
