'Big Brother' winner Adam charged with attempting to sell oxycodone pills

Adam JasinskiUnfortunately, Sarah is still on vacation, and I've only seen a handful of "Big Brother" episodes. So, I have nothing witty or snarky to say about "BB 9" winner Adam Jasinski, who, according to the Associated Press, was charged with attempting to sell oxycodone pills in Massachusetts.

From glancing back at Sarah's "Big Brother" posts, it seems that Adam's season was a snooze. Last year, a reader, Rich, wrote:

I do not really care who wins either, between Adam and Ryan. I do not even think there will be much venom. It will be boring.

Life's not so boring for Adam now, I suppose? Any reaction, faithful "BB" fans?

'Big Brother 11' names a winner

First of all, for tonight's finale of Big Brother 11, host Julie Chen appears to be wearing a blue satin Snuggie with a bubble hem. And that starts off this entry of disjoined thoughts about this season-ender.

I can barely stand to listen Natalie speak anymore. How delusional can she be? Nice that she totally didn't address the fact that she's not 18 when it was brought up in jury questioning, glossing right over that while championing how awesome and forthright her gameplay was. Ick.

I love that Jordan won the final Head of Household competition since Natalie and Kevin had written her off as an easy target.

Best part of the jury interaction was that Jeff was really, truly funny. Was he that funny during the season?

Ronnie's [Square Root of] All Evil shirt cracks me up. I'm a geek; it's cool. Also love that he was trying to shock Jordan with the news that Natalie was actually 24 and not 18, but what do you hear? Kevin yelling, "WHAT???"

But the biggest news of all: Jordan is the winner. Who would have predicted that oh, even two weeks ago?

Not surprisingly, Jeff was the winner of the $25K "America's Favorite Houseguest" prize. "It wasn't even close," Julie said.

What do you think of the results? The crowd seems thrilled!

'Big Brother': Way to go, Natalie!

Oh, Natalie Natalie Natalie. Well done, giving in on round one of the final Head of Household competition on Big Brother because you just know you can beat Jordan at anything in the second round.

*cough*

Except possibly for the challenge of rolling volleyballs with houseguests' names on them in the order that they served as HOH. I loved when you tried to claim it was a mental challenge, and Julie Chen was like, hmmm, actually mental and physical, but you so lost, so moving on ...

Awesome.

I was also amused by Jeff's greeting at the jury house -- I guess I was expecting more animosity, but it seemed fairly good-natured, all things considered, and he didn't seem too bitter.

What did you think of the show tonight?

'Big Brother': A little closer to the endgame

I have to say, Kevin, Natalie and Jordan seem like a pretty unlikely final three for Big Brother, but here we are.

Too bad for Michele. For a little bit there, I thought her plea that she couldn't possibly win might give her a chance with Kevin. But no.

Since the end of the season continues to be so yawn-worthy, let's take commenter Capt. Jack's suggestion and talk about our faves from past seasons. He wrote:

Favorite Houseguest from which season, and least Favorite from which season. Most memorable memory and least memorable memory from BB.

I'm still thinking on those, but here's my suggested categories ...

Favorite twist: Season 5, Project DNA (Do Not Assume), or at least part of it. Having identical twins switch out for five weeks was genius, though it was too bad that Natalie and Adria ended up being so frustrating once they were in the house together.

Least favorite twist: My least favorite twist is also part of Project DNA. Having half-siblings Nakomis and Cowboy find out about the other's existence and meet on the show was terrible.

Favorite houseguest pastime: Lots of amusing conversation and awkward flirting used to happen in the hot tub, which makes me realize that this season, they've barely been in there.

Least favorite houseguest pastime: (tie) sleeping and playing cards. I watched the live feeds for a couple of seasons, and one of them, they had cards, and the endless shuffling of cards was one of the most irritating sounds ever.

Please share your favorites and least favorites, too, and suggest categories if you want. Best alliance and worst alliance? Best and worst showmance?

This sounds way more fun than anything from this season!

'Big Brother': Fed up

Big Brother is becoming (or is that continuing to be?) so annoying!

I so wish Kevin had made the move to get rid of Natalie because she's been useless up until this point, and now she is just being so icky. Running around screaming that her HOH win was for Chima? Telling her only ally that she has to put him on the block? Accepting a Pandora's Box challenge (getting to see her boyfriend for a few minutes, but not being able to compete in the veto) and then completely lying about it? Totally being the worst liar ever? Then coming clean and admitting that she got to see her boyfriend and that he proposed? (Which is, by the way, making her lie about being 18 even more suspect and ridiculous.)

I'm just so frustrated that she's still around and wielding her power with so little thought or logic. It doesn't bode well for how the rest of this game is going to play out. There are few satisfying outcomes remaining. But I've been surprised before, so we'll see how it goes.

'Big Brother': What happens when you open Pandora's Box

We were clearly at that part of the Big Brother season where it was getting boring in the house, so they had to spice things up.

So Kevin walked into the Head of Household room to discover a new door and a note that said if he put his hand in "Pandora's Box," $10,000 would be released, but it didn't specify what else might happen. What happened was, Kevin's hand got locked into place so he was stuck in the room, and the money started raining down from the sky, in $1 bills, in the back yard.

The rest of the houseguests went nuts and were gathering the cash. Kevin got another clue that said there was a key to release him somewhere in the house. He yelled and got Natalie's attention and she said she would look for the key, but instead she went back into the yard to gather more money. (What a fabulous ally!)

Then Kevin got Jeff's attention, and he told Jeff that they would only get to keep the money if Kevin was released. (Crafty!) Jeff found the key, but hit it in his trash can and went back out to collect more cash. Finally, they let Kevin out, and I guess he got to get some money, but the other houseguests had been all over it for awhile.

It was funny, though, because Kevin was so outraged about how greedy everyone was, and yet, he was willing to take the risk of putting his hand in the box for $10K (which he seemed to think would go to him).

After Michele won the veto, it seemed like folks might have persuaded Kevin to put Natalie on the block as the replacement nominee. She has been so useless this season -- and revealed how much she cared about Kevin during that Pandora's Box situation -- that I thought for a bit he might go for it.

But no. Jeff and Jordan are on the block, and one of them will be out on Thursday.

What did you think about last night's show?

'Big Brother': no spoilers this time

I have a question for those of you who follow Big Brother on live feeds, live-feed recaps or Big Brother After Dark: Does the actual broadcast show hold any appeal for you at all?

I had looked up to see who won last week's head of household competition because I was curious. On Saturday, a friend of mine told me who had won the veto, and I had figured out the nominations.

So last night's live show? Totally boring. At long last, we saw that Kevin had won, but I had known that for days, and at the end of the show, we saw that Jeff and Michelle were on the block, but that was easy to find out, too. I already know who's going to win the veto, which just made the broadcast show seem like even more of a waste of time.

Those dedicated followers, do you even bother watching the CBS show?

'Big Brother 11': See ya, Russell

I don't really know what to make of evictee Russell's declaration last night that he was playing the game as a character and just saw personal attacks as part of his game. I don't really get that, unless his goal was to be so horrible to make everyone want to bring them to the finals so they could win against him. The thing is, he wasn't hateable enough to achieve that.

And so he's gone.

The head of household competition wasn't over yet at the end of the episode, but I did a little digging to see who ended up winning.

So, (SPOILER ALERT) ...

'Big Brother': Does Russell have a chance?

On last night's Big Brother, Jeff won the veto, removed Kevin from the block and replaced him with Russell. Hello, backdoor!

Jeff also acted like a total jerkface (I'm stealing that one from my awesome Top Chef guest bloggers), snapping at Jordan and messing with Michele during the veto competition. There was some surprise at my declaration on Sunday that I'm rooting for Kevin, but after seeing Jeff's actions last night, I'm even more in Kevin's corner. And Jordan's, too, though I wish she were playing a little more.

So Russell is probably out, right? Jeff has to make his move now because he is toast if Russell stays in the game. Any chance Natalie the pawn ends up leaving tomorrow? What do you think?

Shortest 'Big Brother' recap ever

Jeff won head of household; Kevin almost did.

Kevin and Natalie scrambled to make a deal with Jeff and Jordan, but they ended up on the block.

But they might be pawns in a scheme to get Russell out.

Michelle was there, too.

I'm rooting for Kevin.

'Big Brother 11': Another one gone

It was an action-packed live show tonight on Big Brother.

After a live, lengthy power of veto competition, Jordan won and decided to leave her nominees -- Lydia and Natalie -- on the block to fight it out.

Before that, the nominees and Kevin concocted a scheme in which they would tell Jeff that they heard Michelle and Russell talking about a final-two deal to try to turn them against Russell. (As it turned out, as angsty as Kevin was about the lie, M&R do seem to have that deal.)

Also, Natalie and Lydia finally had it out and realized that Jessie had been playing them against each other, which made them angry at him.

Now that Lydia is out and headed to the jury house, Jessie better watch out.

Just to mix things up, I hope Kevin wins head of household.

What did you think of the results?

'Big Brother': On Chima's ouster and the aftermath

Honestly, after all the buildup, I expected to see more drama leading up to Chima's removal from the Big Brother house for breaking the rules.

If you didn't see, she refused requests to put on her microphone, and then after her roommates brought it to her, she tossed it into the hot tub. After repeated requests to go to the Diary Room, executive producer Allison Grodner came over the loudspeaker to tell her to go to the Diary Room right then. Chima finally listened to that, and she was ushered immediately from the house.

But if her removal wasn't dramatic, the aftermath was.

Kevin lost it, I think wishing that she had listened to him when he was trying to protect her. Natalie started pontificating that it must be Michele's fault, that she drove her to that. Kevin and Lydia talked her down, kind of. "They took her HOH power away!" Natalie yelled. Lydia reminded her that it is a game and said that Chima had choices in the game, had the choice to follow the rules and chose not to. Good points, those.

Speaking of having people's HOH powers away, Michele's reign is ended, too, and there was a new HOH competition.

At the golf-themed competition, Jordan won (after Jeff gave it to her), and Lydia, previously calm, went off the rails, calling Jordan a "ho," a "ho puppet" and other assorted nicknames, after which she claimed that what "you did" to Chima and the Jessie was wrong. Oh, please. After that, Lydia dumped out Michele's beer for no reason, while Michele taunted her about needing to wear her unitard (her "prize" from the competition).

Then there were lots of LOUD NOISES!

Once Lydia donned the Captain Unitard costume, it seemed to improve her spirits, oddly enough. At least until nominations, when Jordan put Natalie and Lydia on the block.

Jordan interviewed that she wanted Natalie, who is actually trying to play the game, out, and Natalie interviewed that she wasn't going to give up easily.

So after all that, the episode ended in a rather typical way. What did you think about the episode?

'Big Brother' drama ensues; cast member removed from house

Last night's Big Brother was a little nuts. First, Lydia and Natalie and Chima crying and carrying on about Jessie's eviction as if he had died instead of being sent to a house in some undisclosed, probably tropical location.

Kevin's diary room reactions to this won me over to his side, and with a vengeance.

Michele's nominations of Chima and Natalie were not that surprising, except that if she wanted to backdoor Chima, didn't she have to keep her off the block to keep her from winning POV? Oh, well.

Then at the end, the voiceover noted that on Tuesday, it would be revealed that one of the houseguests was going to be removed by producers. Of course, since that's all happened already on the live feeds, it obviously isn't going to be a secret for long.

So, if you don't want to know who it is ... stop reading now.

'Big Brother': Coup d'Etat in play

I'm late on this (let's be frank -- I was watching the Ravens preseason game; mmmmm, football), but last night's Big Brother was pretty interesting.

Sure, there was all that scheming in play to backdoor Russell and the drama with Kevin not using the power of veto on Lydia. But none of it mattered because Jeff had the power of Coup d'Etat, and he used it.

Undoing Chima's HOH work, he took Lydia and Russell off the block, replacing them with Jessie (who ripped off his shirt to reveal a self-promotional T-shirt below) and Natalie.

The house voted 4-3 to evict Jessie, who looked disgusted, and then discussed with Julie that it was OK because he's going to be a sports superstar. God, he's insufferable. He was bitter last season because the vote by Dan (who had to vote what "America" told him, rather than what he wanted) sent him home. And then, poof, basically "America" had its way with him again and evicted him.

That's OK with me -- he wasn't likeable at all, and his game-play was annoying, too. Not to mention, he spent most of his time in the house, both seasons, sleeping. Whatever, I'm not going to get too upset with outside forces messing with the game.

That's what Big Brother is about, after all: the unexpected.

What did you think about last night?

Oh, one last thing, how sad was the complete lack of reaction for Michele's HOH win?

'Big Brother 11': Egg-zactly what I'm talking about

You know how on Survivor, I always end up describing the challenges like, "And then there's a maze, and they have to get puzzle pieces, and then put together the puzzle and raise a flag"?

The equivalent in Big Brother is: "And then the contestants have to dress up in inane costumes."

Last night, for the veto competition, it was chicken costumes, and those participating had to slowly lift a dozen eggs, one at a time, up out of a coop, through the chicken wire. It required patience and some degree of strategy, and Kevin ended up with his first win of any kind.

But it turns out that he doesn't have much game -- he spotlighted himself as a floater when he declined to use the veto, even on his closest friend, Lydia.

Of course, none of this matters much since the Coup d'Etat is in play. We'll see how that goes tomorrow night. Won't it be a letdown if nothing happens?

'Big Brother': Another one bites the dust

Casey didn't have a chance, did he? Especially after that speech.

Tonight's Big Brother was not a big surprise in really any way. Julie Chen announced that the cliques would be dissolved and that a surprise power would be bestowed on someone by the viewing public, but even that wasn't super unexpected.

The HOH competition wasn't over by the end of the episode, so what is unexpected is what will happen next.

What did you think about the episode?

'Big Brother' blahs

At this point in the season, I pretty much always dislike everyone on Big Brother, and this season is no different.

Last week, I had started to think that Jessie wasn't as insufferable as last season. But then he won HOH again and proved me wrong nearly immediately.

I liked Lydia at first, but she's kind of a nutcase, and inexplicably attaching herself to Jessie. I wanted to like Michelle, but she is really kind of boring -- and not doing much to break out of the "brain" shell that has been forced upon her.

Natalie and Russell are mean bullies, Jordan is sweet but so dim, Chima is just all-around weird, and Kevin has been pretty quiet. Casey seems OK, but he's probably going home tomorrow. Jeff is also OK, but he doesn't seem to be playing the game at all.

Oh, and Ronnie is just a nincompoop. But at least he is playing.

I assume it will get more interesting once a couple of more people go home, and I sincerely hope they get rid of the cliques soon because I think it's added some unfortunate divisions to the house.

We'll see.

What do you think is going to happen tomorrow?

'Big Brother 11': Oh, *now* he gets it

Big Brother has gone all high school on us this season, and the contestants sure are buying into it as we saw them turn on Ronnie en masse and leave him hiding in his room.

Not that he didn't deserve it after his disastrous plays this week, but it was kind of painful to watch Russell torment him whenever he left the HOH bedroom (which Ronnie only did when summoned to the diary room).

Anyway, Laura got voted out (the only interesting thing that happened being Natalie voting against Jordan just to stir things up), and then Jessie won HOH. Sigh.

As much as I dislike Jessie, there are already about five other people who are now annoying me more than him.

So Ronnie's out, right? He doesn't have a chance, as far as I can tell. Too bad, because while I would rather see him leave soon, I would rather have bully Russell out first, and that can't happen while the athletes are in power this week.

Saddest moment of the night, though, was watching Ronnie realize while hiding in his room that yes, he should have taken out Russell. Too late now!

'Big Brother 11': Oh, Ronnie (continued)

Oh, Ronnie, Ronnie, Ronnie.

I know you think you are being sinister and a mastermind and playing both sides, but everyone is seeing through you, and you're not going to last long after this.

All right, I'm done with the first-person address. But I could not believe that he thought he had everyone snowed and convinced that Michelle was the one who cast the rogue vote for Chima. Does anyone believe him?

And I have very little faith that his little plan to backdoor Russell is going to work.

What say you?

'Big Brother 11': Who goes home first?

Dear Big Brother announcer,

It's "ath-lete," not "ath-uh-lete."

OK, now that we're done with that, I'll get on to the first eviction of the season.

It's a little disturbing that it took about four days for the people in the house this year to go completely bananas. Lydia, who I pretty much liked before this, got in a screaming fight with Braden over ... what? Then she screamed at Jordan because she cried when Braden went on the block but not when Lydia went on the block. It also didn't take long for the athletes to become cocky bullies and anger the rest of the house.

But the big moment of the night came during Chima's plea to stay in the house. A lot of it got bleeped, but here's my attempts to record it: "It amazes me how short some of the memory spans are in here because my opponent here called both of my very good friends [bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep] and [bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep]. [From the live audience: "ohhhh."] Yes, he did. And so a vote for Braden is a vote for a bigot. Anyone who aligns themselves with a racist and a misogynist, you deserve to go home."

Wow.

Julie was stunned and said that's the most memorable live speech they've ever heard.

The votes: Russell voted for Braden, Natalie voted for Braden, Jeff voted Chima, Jordan voted for Chima, Kevin voted for Braden, Lauren voted for Chima, Lydia voted for Braden, Michelle voted for Chima, Casey voted "to evict Chima's melodramatic behind," and Ronnie voted for Braden (with an aside about how he's "going to hell"). This made it a tie, leaving it to Jessie, who evicted Braden.

Oh, Ronnie.

Then Julie interviewed Braden, who said there was a lot to talk about. He said that he thought Ronnie, Michelle or Casey who sold him out. Julie told him it was Ronnie, and isn't surprised, calling him sinister and into the game and "a great liar."

Ronnie was the winner of the HOH competition, so he, Michelle and Chima are safe this week, too.

What did you think about the results? Pretty nutty.

'Big Brother': Why did it have to be Jessie?

I am really not loving Big Brother so far this season. The high-school clique theme? Lame! And it's making the contestants act out in stereotypical ways. (Maybe that was the point, but it's annoying!)

And the idea of bringing back a former cast member is interesting, but why did it have to be Jessie? He's so annoying, so full of himself and just plain old difficult to look at.

How predictable it was the the guy labeled the jock sort of made friends with the offbeat artist and gave her hope and then twisted the knife and nominated her? It's like some late-'90s high school comedy that landed in bizarro-land.

I hope Lydia wins the power of veto. I don't like many of these folks yet, but she's OK by me, and I'd hate to see her leave so soon.

What are you hoping to see happen tonight?

'Big Brother 11': What did you think of the premiere?

Oh, Big Brother. How I love/loathe thee. It's such summer trash, and yet, I can't turn away.

I'm not sure how I feel about this summer's theme, high school, which has the cast broken up into cliques (popular, athletic, brainy and offbeat). I am sure that I am not glad that insufferable Jesse from last season is back this year.

What did you think of the theme and the contestants thus far? Anybody watching the live feeds?

'Big Brother 10': In 7-0 vote, Dan crowned winner

Guest blogger Patrick Gutierrez wraps up BB 10 for us:

Another season of Big Brother wrapped last night as Memphis and Dan squared off with members of the jury to try and win their respective votes, which would decide who gets the $500,000 grand prize.

The show began with a lengthy recap of how things got to this point. Meanwhile, at the jury house, the six members waited outside for the seventh and final member of the jury to arrive. At this point, pretty much everyone realized they had been played by Dan and Memphis, so they badly wanted to see one of them walk through the gate. When Jerry showed up, the disappointment was obvious, as was the anger.

'Big Brother 10': Long live the Renegades!

Guest blogger Patrick Gutierrez is ready for the BB10 finale. Are you? Catch up with his recap and observations:

When we last left the house, Dan, Memphis and Jerry were standing on the wings of airplanes in Part 1 of the final HOH competition.

Not surprisingly, Jerry was the first to fall. It looked like Dan and Memphis' plan to keep the old-timer over Keesha was working to perfection.

Dan ended up winning Part 1 and automatically advanced to final round. That left Memphis and Jerry to battle it out in Part 2.

'Big Brother 10': the final three

Patrick Gutierrez writes about Big Brother 10: It's down to the final four, and the Power of Veto winner will determine who goes home. Dan's plan to nominate Memphis worked to perfection, as he garnered Keesha's support while Jerry aligned with Memphis for what he thought was a deal to watch each other's back. These arrangements all but guaranteed Memphis' safety, as whoever won the POV would not be targeting him.

Meanwhile, Dan got to leave the house for winning the luxury competition, and he spent his time with Michelle on the beach trying to win her over.

'Big Brother 10': Dan buries the hatchet, wins HOH

Here's another Big Brother 10 update from guest blogger Patrick Gutierrez.

With the house down to the final four and Dan as HOH, no one can feel safe this week, not even his alliance partner, Memphis. It doesn't matter whom Dan nominates, someone is going to win the POV, and that person will have all the power because he is the lone vote during the eviction ceremony.

To pass the time, the house engaged in a mysterious luxury competition for a trip outside the house. The prize promised to potentially "change the game." The instructions for the game were found in an envelope underneath a sumo wrestler who had suddenly appeared inside the house while the players were outside battling for HOH.

'Big Brother 10': Renny is so yesterday

Forgive me, blog readers. My iBook G4's occasional inability to run The Baltimore Sun's blogging software, combined with a jam-packed weekend, prevented me from posting Patrick Gutierrez'Big Brother 10 recaps sooner. Here's his recap of last week's eviction.

Memphis used the power of veto to save Dan, so the Renegades alliance remained in tact and had full control over who went home this week. Renny, Dan's replacement on the block, and Keesha, her closest ally, refused to campaign against each other.

Jerry was upset Memphis had betrayed his wishes but didn't make his feelings public because he knew that at this point in the game, the right friend could mean the difference between a shot at $500,000 and being sent to the jury house.

'Big Brother 10': Dan calls the shots

The first couple of minutes are a recap of Sunday's episode. (Yawn.) Then we get down to business.

The back-stabbing starts immediately. Dan says that he intends to go back on his word if Ollie chooses to save Jerry from eviction. (Dan had previously agreed to save Michelle from eviction.) Keesha tells Dan that she doesn't think things will work out the way he wants. Keesha and Renny later realize that Ollie and Michelle have had an alliance.

Meanwhile Michelle, Jerry and Ollie are meeting in private and discussing strategy. Jerry says he doesn't trust Dan.

It's time for America's vote. The public gets the opportunity to chose a gift for the housemates. This time, America chooses someone from the house to get a phone call from home. Keesha and Michelle get very emotional at the thought of connecting with their families. Renny and Jerry comfort Michelle separately. Jerry cries privately in a confessional. He shares that his wife has Parkinson's disease.

The camera cuts to a ringing phone in the living room. Michelle answers the phone and finds out that Jerry's family is on the other end. Jerry talks to his great-grandson, and then to his wife. Michelle starts to cry because she says that she's missing her family. (She's so self-absorbed.)

After Jerry wraps up his conversation, he yells a thanks to America for voting for him.

'Big Brother 10': Dan wins HOH; Ollie calls shots

I'm not sure whether Dan is incredibly smart or kinda stupid after watching last night's episode of Big Brother 10.

Dan and Ollie were the final contestants left in the Head of Household competition, which required them to the hold themselves up by a rope. Dan told Ollie to sacrifice himself so that Dan could become the next HOH. If Ollie agreed, Dan said he would protect Michelle and put up a contestant of Ollie's choosing for eviction. Ollie essentially held all the power with the agreement.

Keesha immediately noticed that something was awry and commented that the pair were probably working out some type of deal. (She was right.)

'Big Brother 10': It's over for April

Sorry for the delay; I am out of the country and didn't have Internet access Thursday or Friday. Here is the BB10 recap by Patrick Gutierrez:

With Dan refusing to use the power of veto, April and Jerry were left to fend for themselves. Meanwhile, Renny’s alliance is still puzzled by her decision to nominate Jerry instead of Ollie. Dan asked Renny point-blank if she had made a deal with Ollie, and she said no.

Michelle seemed overly concerned that someone offered Dan $5,000 prior to the veto meeting to get taken off and set out to find out who that was. Meanwhile, Memphis tried to keep the target on April.

'Big Brother 10': April, Jerry up for eviction

Patrick Gutierrez on Big Brother 10:

With Libra gone, the house is now evenly split. Keesha, Renny, Memphis and Dan are on one side, while Jerry, Ollie, April and Michelle make up the opposition. Of course, with Renny as HOH, April's alliance will most likely be one person lighter after this week.

Privately, Renny is worried about Keesha's relationship with Memphis. She quizzed her about it, but Keesha played it off like there was nothing there. Meanwhile, April is already plotting her campaign against Jerry should the two be nominated.

Renny broke down crying when she saw vintage pictures of her parents in her HOH room, and afterward the house had fun beating up on April's toy dog outside.

'Big Brother 10': Libra leaves

Patrick Gutierrez gets us up to date on BB10:

It's another eviction night, but the focus in the house is more on Jerry calling Dan "Judas" during the POV ceremony than the fact that Keesha and Libra are on the block. Clearly everyone thought that was out of line.

Dan is eating up the sympathy from the rest of the house. He's very happy with his position. On the other hand, Libra is saying publicly that she's on her way out, but April seems intent on targeting Keesha because of what she perceives as Keesha's jealousy of her.

"It’s because I'm prettier than her," she told Ollie.

'Big Brother 10': friend vs. friend vs. onions

Patrick Gutierrez watched BB 10, and here's his recap:

With Keesha and Libra on the block, it's friend vs. friend going into the veto competition. Keesha seemed more upset that April's key was pulled out first than the fact that she was nominated. Libra promised not to campaign against Keesha while Michelle reassured Keesha that Libra is her target.

April, Memphis and Jerry were selected to play in the veto competition. While April's alliance seemed to be on board with getting Libra out, Jerry secretly wanted Dan out. He went up to Michelle's room and confided in her his belief that Dan is America's Player.

With the tension level still high, Dan and Memphis tried to lighten things up a bit by storming into Libra's bedroom while the girls were asleep and giving them a pillow-whacking.

'Big Brother 10': Libra and Keesha on the block

Patrick Gutierrez fills us in on BB10:

Jessie's surprise eviction sent the house into an uproar. First there was silence immediately after the eviction ceremony as everyone tried to come to grips with what had happened. People just paced back and forth in the kitchen, not saying a word. Dan was especially quiet as he, on behalf of America, had cast the deciding vote that sent Jessie packing.

April was livid, as was Jerry. Keesha and Libra were the opposite. You could feel the tension in the house and knew it was only a matter of time before things came to a head. That moment occurred shortly after the HOH competition, which Michelle had won.

'Big Brother 10': Jesse is outta there!

Patrick Gutierrez and his BB10 recap:

It's another eviction night, with Jessie and Memphis on the block. For Jessie, it's his third time in four weeks that he's been nominated for eviction, and he is his usual confident self. Memphis is acting like his time in the house is nearing an end since April has made no secret of the fact that he is her target.

Keesha and Libra continued to confide in each other about their shared desire to see Jessie go. They tried to get April to see things their way, but she refused to be swayed. The two women decided to break from their alliance with April and set out to get the votes to keep Memphis. They figured Renny would be on board because of her personal problems with Jessie, but the two still needed one more vote. Jerry hates Memphis, so he's out. Michelle is in love with Jessie, so she's out. Ollie is April's boyfriend, so he won't go against her wishes. That left Dan ...

'Big Brother': Veto is a no-go

Guest blogger Patrick Gutierrez sums up another episode of Big Brother 10:

Jessie's alliance is in shambles, with both he and Memphis on the block, although Memphis is clearly April's target. April reassured Jessie he would be safe. Meanwhile, America directed Dan to hug Jessie for 10 seconds, so he concocted a story about his girlfriend not being there for him when he gets out of the house. Jessie fell for it hook, line and sinker as a "crying" Dan hugged him for more than 10 seconds, successfully completing the task.

Michelle, Libra and Jerry were selected to play in the veto competition, which was a bad break for Memphis since none of them was likely to use it on him. April's alliance was in her HOH room talking strategy when Libra got upset because she perceived her loyalty was being questioned. She left and went back to her room and started complaining to Keesha about the group. Jessie overheard their conversation and ran to April's room to tell her his version of what they said.

'Big Brother 10': Memphis, Jessie on the chopping block

Patrick Gutierrez on BB10:

When we last saw the house guests, they were standing on the ledge of a makeshift wall in a battle for head of household. This endurance competition would determine who would have the power for the week.

Jerry was gone after 26 minutes. Libra was next to leave the ledge. The man-made elements, such as high winds and dust, started picking up, making it that much more difficult. Dan, America's Player for the week, let go after 45 minutes, and then Ollie. That left Jessie's alliance against Renny and April. Jessie started shaking and finally threw in the towel after a little more than an hour. Memphis, sensing he was about to fall, tried to cut a deal with April, but she wasn't having it. He went down, leaving Renny, April and Michelle.

'Big Brother 10': a missed opportunity

Guest blogger Patrick Gutierrez recaps another eviction night:

Two members of the same alliance, Jessie and Angie, are on the block. One is going home. Michelle seemed torn between her feelings for Jessie and her friendship with Angie, but Angie told her to do whatever the rest of the house is going to do, even if that meant voting her out.

Jessie, on the other hand, seemed confident he's staying, and Keesha believed she has the votes to get Angie out.

'Big Brother 10': flower power

Guest blogger Patrick Gutierrez on BB10:

Keesha's nomination of Jessie and Angie pretty much divided the Anti-Brian Crew into two factions: Memphis, Jessie, Angie and Michelle were on one side, while April, Libra and Ollie joined Keesha on the other.

Jessie got Keesha alone in the HOH room and told her Libra was running everything. Libra and April came up to the room but were sent away as Jessie continued to try and get Keesha to back-door Libra. The girls waited right outside the room until Jessie left and then went in to gauge where Keesha was, while Jessie was convinced he had gotten Keesha to switch her focus from Angie to Libra.

'Big Brother 10': for the record, and for the food

Patrick Gutierrez is back with another Big Brother 10 recap:

With Steven out of the house, the Anti-Brian Crew (ABCs) alliance remained intact, although Keesha was obviously sad to see him go. In the diary room after winning head of household, Keesha was promising to "turn the house upside down" with her nominations, while Dan continued to brag about throwing competitions to make himself look weak.

Keesha's roommates were empathetic when she was explaining why she liked Steven. Libra reacted strangely when Keesha said she didn't know whom to put up. Her alliance wants her to keep targeting the others, but Keesha seems out for revenge.

'Big Brother 10': Steven says so long

Patrick Gutierrez's wife and fellow BB10 fan, Sacha, recaps the show for us:

Once again, it is eviction night, with the live audience adding excitement to the show. Dan and Steven are sitting in the dreaded green armchairs. They had very different strategies for staying in the house: Dan laid low and continued to play weak while Steven campaigned aggressively, making promises of loyalty. Keesha tried hard not to appear to be campaigning for Steven, however, at every opportunity, she pointed out a reason to keep him.

Lines of division have started to form in the ABC's. Jessie, Michelle, Angie and Memphis are on one side against Libra, April, Ollie and Keesha. Jerry, Renny, Dan and Steven are the floaters.

During the question and answer session, Julie stirred the pot, asking Jerry if he felt respected and Libra if age mattered. In typical Jerry fashion, he gave a long-winded "yes."

'Big Brother 10': no veto here

Guest blogger Patrick Gutierrez on Big Brother 10:

Jessie made it clear to Dan that Steven was the target this week. Steven isolated himself in his room and was taking his nomination hard.

Memphis and Jessie talked about bringing Michelle and Angie into their alliance. Keesha told Steven if she was picked and won the veto competition, she would use it on him. She did get picked to play, and before the competition, she told Michelle, April and Libra that she wanted Steven to stay. They trashed her after she left the room, and Michelle went and told Jessie and Memphis about it as well.

Big Brother 10: divided over Brian

Guest blogger Patrick Gutierrez recaps tonight's episode of Big Brother 10:

With Jessie as head of household, the house quickly divided into two groups: Those who wanted Brian out last week and those who didn't. Angie, by way of her ill-fated attempt to keep Brian around, was now on the outside looking in. She tried talking to Jessie in his HOH room, but he blew her off.

Renny and Jerry ended up on the red team for the food competition, causing teammates April and Libra to grumble about being stuck with the "old people."

In the event, each team put two people in a giant barrel 10 feet in the air. Their job was to plug 20 holes in the bottom of each barrel. The corks were being delivered by a third teammate, while the remaining players on each team were standing under their opponents’ barrel with wine glasses. Their job was to catch the wine that escaped and deposit it in bottles. The challenge was to collect as much wine as possible in five minutes.

'Big Brother 10': first eviction

Patrick Gutierrez on BB10:

It was eviction night, with a live audience to boot, and Brian and Renny were on the block. Brian figured if he could get five votes, Jerry would break the tie in his favor, so he and Dan looked for potential candidates to turn. In the meantime, Brian tried being "The Fun Guy" in an effort to win people over. He even put on a sock-puppet show which showed him getting evicted. A premonition, perhaps?

Angie went to Keesha to see if she was open to the idea of keeping Brian, but the April Alliance saw them talking, and then things got heated between April and Keesha outside. April retreated to her room and had a good cry while Keesha stewed outside.

In the end, Brian was unable to sway the house and ended up leaving by a vote of 9-1. Dan was the lone dissenter, staying loyal to his homie.

'Big Brother 10': I told you so, Brian!

Guest blogger Patrick Gutierrez recaps the second Big Brother 10 episode:

Brian continued to be full of himself, taking credit for Jerry’s nominations. The conflict between Renny and Jessie continued, with Renny fanning the flames at a wine (whine?) party in Jerry’s room.

Looking to get a strong competitor out early, Brian began trying to turn the tide against Jessie, going one by one to several houseguests, trying to get them to vote the bodybuilder out. His claim was that he had Jerry's ear on possible replacement nominees and was promising to keep them safe if they agreed to vote his way.

'Big Brother 9': And the winner is ...

By a 6-to-1 vote, Adam is the winner of Big Brother 9.

Not the most scintillating finale I've ever seen, especially after the jury questions, in which Ryan proved to be unbelievably inarticulate.

The other news of the finale was the winner of the "favorite juror" prize: James. (Meanly, Julie Chen also made sure to tell Sheila that she came in second place, a distinction that brings her a prize of $0.)

So it's all over.  Yay!

What do you think about the winner?

'Big Brother' finale tonight

The Big Brother 9 finale is in a little over an hour and ... yawwwwn. Seriously, Ryan or Adam? I don't really care one whit.

A friend of mine who keeps up with the live feeds said, though, that they didn't know they were going to get questioned by the jury. That is hilarious -- where have they been? So it might be worth it to tune in tonight for that particular shock.

What do you think about this final two? Reader Rich chimed in on a previous entry:

I do not really care who wins either, between Adam and Ryan. I do not even think there will be much venom. It will be boring. The producers could choose from millions of people, but this cast had an all-white(except for one brother) cast. And he was kicked out early. No Asians, no older people, just a lot of annoying fat white folks (i.e Adam and Ryan and Josh.)

No joke -- this was the most homogenous cast ever. And that soulmate thing really worked out, eh?

'Big Brother 9': the final three revealed

She survived five consecutive trips to the block (not that Block, Baltimore readers), but even a secret alliance could not get Sharon into the final three.

Ryan went on a roll, winning HOH, nominating Sheila and Sharon for eviction and winning Power of Veto. He could basically choose the outcome of the game, and I thought he would probably take Sharon off the block, which would make Adam the replacement nominee. Then Sharon would take out either Sheila or Adam, depending on what Ryan wanted. But so much for their secret alliance -- Ryan left the nominations the same, and Adam voted to evict Sharon.

Even though she was surpprised, Sharon handled the eviction with a little more maturity than Natalie, who seemed to think that God had ordained that she would win and was just flabbergasted that the tide had turned against her.

After that, the three-part final HOH competition started -- we should see the results tonight, and then one last eviction will leave us with the final two.

Who are rooting for, if anyone? I'm not really excited about any of these last three, which I guess means I won't mind too much when the venom starts flowing on the finale next week.

'Big Brother 9': Down to the final four

Last night on Big Brother, Adam won the veto, and HOH Sheila put Natalie up as the replacement nominee. Sheila and Sharon were sure Natalie was going to be backdoored. But then Adam and Ryan (the only vote-casters) seemed to be having second thoughts.

On tonight's episode, that was borne out when the guys called a house meeting to lay all the stuff they'd been hearing on the table. They blindsided Natalie with the "meeting" while she was in the middle of dyeing her hair. She claimed her loyalties were with the men, and Sheila was shocked. But the guys were convinced -- and it looked pretty obvious that Sharon was toast and Natalie was sticking around.

The jury house footage was interesting -- James, upon his arrival, blamed his eviction on Chelsia's negative departure from the house. I doubt that's true, but Chelsia did not take it well. But once he said he didn't care about the money and was glad he met her, they were fine. Ah, showmance!

When the votes were cast on the live show, I was shocked: Ryan voted for Natalie and Adam voted for Sharon. I guess they decided it made the most sense to put it in Sheila's hands, which actually wasn't a bad plan. After the break, Sheila evicted Natalie, who looked betrayed and cried.

During the HOH competition, the final question was, "There is still a pre-existing relationship in the house." The answer was fact, but a helpful graphic came up on screen: "(the guinea pigs)." In a tie-breaker, Ryan won the HOH over Sharon. I'm sure the houseguests are going to be driving themselves crazy trying to figure out who that pre-existing relationship is.

Next week: final three and the final HOH competition. We're in the home stretch, folks!

'Big Brother 9': what next?

No shock to see James ousted last Wednesday -- he was right that the whole house had turned against him.

I'm hoping for a surprise this week, though. Sheila's nominated Adam and Sharon with the goal of back-dooring Natalie, whom, finally, people are starting to not trust. For all her "Team Christ" talk, she really has been playing both sides and being remarkably delusional and self-righteous while doing so. Of course, many a plan set forth on a Sunday night has fallen to pieces before the next show, so who knows.

Random question for you Big Brother After Dark and live-feed watchers. I got a call from a reader who regularly watches BBAD and said that night before last, Adam was telling a story about how his grandfather escaped from a concentration camp in Poland, when he reportedly said something anti-Semitic about Jews being "put in a hole." I looked around at a couple of live-feed recap sites and didn't see anything, but if you saw this or saw reference to it somewhere else, drop me a comment or an email. I'm just curious. The caller went on to say that the producers didn't cut away or call him to the diary room or do any of the other things they usually do when problematic subjects come up.

'Big Brother 9': more maneuvering before eviction

Did I miss the part where Joshuah played an honorable, truthful Big Brother game? I seem to recall a lot of screaming, a lot of lying, selling out his best friend in the house on the last episode and more, so his holier-than-thou exit speech last night was just dumb.

Even his mother, in interview footage, was like, "Uh, I don't think I raised him to talk to people that way, so I realllllly hope it's strategy."

So despite all of Joshuah's maneuvering in Tuesday's episode, Natalie told Sharon about his plot against her, and the tides turned again, and yes, Joshuah was evicted.

In an HOH competition with scintillating questions about things like how many pillows are in the BB house, Adam won the title for the second time. He's allied with a lot of the folks who are left, so I don't think he has a ton of options when it comes to nominees. Perhaps he'll have to turn on someone!

We'll see on Sunday.

'Big Brother 9': tears and meltdowns

Last night's Big Brother was actually pretty interesting.

Poor James was seemingly undone by the departure of Chelsia and was feeling pretty bad, so Sheila gave him a pep talk about how he should get his head back in the game. Unfortunately, shortly thereafter, she was talking with Natalie and others about how they had to get rid of James, and when someone suggested he might be able to overhear, she said she didn't care.

He did overhear, and he went on a screaming crying rampage at her. But it was really difficult to take him seriously since he was not wearing pants.

Realizing the whole house was (still) against him, James focused again on the POV competition. When that came around, he won his third consecutive veto and infuriated the rest of the house.

Joshuah realized that Sharon was going to go on the block with him, and that he would most likely get voted out, and then: more tears. He cried and Sharon cried, and even Sheila cried.

Then another very Big Brother moment: Sharon ran to the bathroom to cry, and Sheila ran to comfort her. They talked about how sad it was that Joshuah would be leaving, but that he was such a good person, and he wants this win for Sharon, and lots of other nice, stoic things about awesome he is. Meanwhile, Joshuah pulled himself together and went upstairs to cut a deal with Natalie, telling her he would have her back for two weeks if she voted Sharon out instead. Meanwhile, Sharon and Sheila cried. Then Joshuah ran around and secured the two votes he needs -- Ryan and James.

Cold! But oh-so-BB

Of course between then and tonight's live eviction, things could change. But it made for good TV last night.

'Big Brother 9': OMG!

So Natalie is HOH on Big Brother 9, and you know why? Because God wanted it, God is on her side, God loves her, etc.

I've long gone on record that God's probably a tad too busy to care about the outcome of reality TV shows (especially the second-tier ones), and I still believe that. I'm not saying don't ask for strength or clarity if you need it or whatever, but Natalie and her alliance naming themselves "Team Christ"? Nuh-uh. No. Come on. Give me a break!

No one gets out of this game without lying and backstabbing, and naming your alliance in such a game after Jesus is just plain crazy talk. Plus, these potty-mouthed, self-absorbed "houseguests" aren't exactly shining examples of Christianity. Or much of anything else.

But whatever.

In the end, Natalie put James and Joshuah on the block. But tomorrow's POV competition could change anything, so why ruminate on that for too long?

'Big Brother 9': non-shocking elimination

I missed Tuesday's Big Brother (since it was on at the same time as Idol and Dancing With the Stars again), so I missed all the fun when Evel Dick terrorized the houseguests. Pity.

But I did catch up last night. Head of Household Adam had nominated James and Chelsia, trying to break up one of the few remaining "couples." But James won the POV competition and removed himself from the block. I didn't see the episode where this happened, but apparently Joshuah talked Sharon into volunteering to go on the block as a pawn.

So with James off and Sharon on, Chelsia apparently realized her time in the house was short. She decided to make the most of it and try to have fun and get to know everyone better and put the game aside. Wait, no, not exactly. Instead, she went on a brat parade and smashed all of Natalie's carefully decorated Easter eggs and snarked at everyone and gave a couple of the dumbest "why you shouldn't vote to evict me" speeches ever.

Which meant that even James voted for her to leave, making the decision unanimous.

The Natalie, of all people, won the HOH competition. She might not know how many letters are in the alphabet, but she better predicted how the viewing public felt about the contestants than any of the others did, and that's all it took.

I expect her Vengeance for Matty campaign to continue in full force.

'Big Brother 9': another one gone

James' backdoor situation worked out just fine on Big Brother 9 last night -- Matt was evicted after a tie vote that forced James to break the tie and send him packing.

I was surprised to see Sheila stepping up and trying to manipulate everything yet again -- she really is playing this game. If only she weren't so annoying.

So, Matt is out, and Natalie is mad (or as mad as she is capable of getting, anyway), Adam is HOH, and who knows what will happen next.

Lots of scrambling and lots of lying, of course.

The other news from the episode was that Dick and Danielle Donato, the estranged father and daughter who were on last season, and were the final two, actually, still have a decent relationship. Aww. And Dick, who won last season, will show up in the house some time next week. Creepy!

Is that an upgrade from the mime who tortured the contestants a few years back?

'Big Brother': words broken all over the place

I just caught up with last night's eventful Big Brother (after three and a half hours of AI and DWTS, I was all tapped out).

Oh, James.

I get that he wants "sweet revenge" on the people in the house who voted him out (he got voted back in on a twist on last week's live show), but he's so easily led. He knew that three people voted against his return to the house, and Ryan and Sheila told him straight-up that they were two of them. Matt was the third, but he decided to lie about it, which made Adam mad, which mad Adam sound unhinged when he tried to tell James he'd voted to bring him back, which made James not trust him. (Yeesh, hope you followed that one.)

'Big Brother': James back in business

For the second week in a row, a houseguest who thought he was evicted ended up back in the house -- and becoming HOH.

James, who was lied to by almost everyone and then evicted by a vote of 5-1, got voted back in on Wednesday when a majority of the houseguests went with "the devil you know" strategy when faced with bringing either him or a random previously evicted contestant chosen by viewers.

But they didn't count on an HOH challenge that was all about will and endurance. It came down to Natalie (who was willing to do whatever she could to keep Matt safe) and James (who was out for revenge), who stayed balanced on the disco-ball contraption pictured above for five hours. Natalie was starting to feel ill, and James promised her she and Matt would be safe, winning himself the competition.

The other dramas in the episode included Matt trying to pretend like he was one of the people who voted for James to come back in the house, which made Adam look suspect, and also made Adam mad. Also, Matt finally started to realize that he'd been treating Natalie awfully. We'll see how long his kind(ish) treatment of her actually lasts.

And the nominations? Ryan and Sheila.

Speaking of Sheila, I know the veto competition thing said she had to wear that unitard for a week, but it already seems like it's been years. Can she go back to regular clothes, please? Please??

'Big Brother': twists and turns

Last night, my television was trying to protect me from Big Brother. It was so pixely and jumpy that I missed about half of every sentence and didn't get a clear picture for pretty much the whole show.

But I was able to mostly figure out what happened. After Matt was mean to Natalie, some of the others opted to try to ally against Matt. Unfortunately, when Matt was nice to Natalie the next day, she spilled the whole story to him. He, in turn, told Ryan to expect a pitch to keep Ryan safe for two weeks if he put Matt on the block.

Still, it seemed like he was down with the idea, but at the veto meeting, after Chelsia took herself off the block, Ryan gave a speech that sounded like he was targeting Matt, but he shocked everyone and put James on the block.

'Big Brother': Til the Producers Do Us Part

Finally, the dumb couples' twist is over on Big Brother, which I hoped would make things more interesting.

But instead, on last night's episode, the guys got all macho and "bros before ..." well, you know, and decided they would dominate this place. Except maybe James and Chelsia, who either have feelings for each other and are still secretly allied or are both playing each other.

I suppose everyone else could unite against the dudes and try to take them down, but I can't really see them getting that plan together.

Speaking of which, Nataile is totally coming off as a stalker and dumber than a box of hair. She managed to say in the course of about five minutes that there were three colors on this thing in the guinea pigs' cage (there were four) and that there are 27 letters in the alphabet (she was counting the "and" in "y and z," and seriously, I wish I were making that up).

But the season is going to become even more boring if the guys just railroad all over everyone else. Yuck.

Oh, and let's not forget: Sharon and Chelsia are on the block. And on Wednesday, one of the evicted houseguests gets to move back in. I suspect it will be Parker or Alex, since they are the ones who really got kicked out because of their partners. Tomorrow: POV, etc.

I do hope it's not Allison who returns, although it might be funny to see her get evicted for a third time.

This show is making me mean.

'Big Brother': the game changes

Tuesday night on Big Brother, the big news was Matt and Natalie winning the veto, and also that a twist was in the air. The houseguests learned that when they heard an alarm, they were to gather in the living room and wait for more information.

Shelia and Adam were put on the block in place of Matt and Natalie, going against Ryan and Allison.

It was pretty obvious tonight that Ryan and Allison were out, since everyone had turned against Allison. And indeed, they were evicted. But when they tried to leave, the door was locked, and the alarm went off.

Then it was time for the big twist. The players are now playing as individuals, and only one of the members of the evicted couple would actually be leaving.

Funniest thing? When the alarm went off, Allison went crazy, thinking she was saved in the game. But as host Julie Chen explained the deal -- that the houseguests would immediately cast individual votes for either Allison or Ryan, and one would be out right then -- you could see it dawn on Allison that she was still going to be out. This came to pass pretty easily, as it was a 6-0 vote.

It was Ryan's lucky day, since he finally got separated from his partner who everyone hated and then he won the first individual HOH competition.

Before the show ended, though, Julie told the audience about one more twist. Viewers can vote on which of the evicted houseguests gets to come back in the house, and that person will let back in next Wednesday.

I don't really want to see any of the people back in -- that'll just make the show longer!  But I'm glad no one will be stuck with a partner they don't want anymore because all that whining was getting old.

What do you think about the twists?

'Big Brother' blahs

The more I see of this season of Big Brother, the more I really kind of hate everyone.

I'm tired of Joshuah going on diatribes and screaming at his target of the day. I'm tired of Allison acting like she's smarter than everyone and this manipulative player. I'm annoyed by Natalie's total vacancy (and annoying representation of my second home state of Oregon -- seriously, first Kail and now Natalie??). I'm grossed out by Matt's attitude toward Natalie (last night's footage of him lecturing her about not getting emotionally attached was immediately after she gave him a sexual favor, if what I saw on live-feed recaps is correct). Sheila's a huge complainer and so insecure. Adam's obnoxious, crazy-eyed and insensitive. Ryan's a lump; Sharon is kind of a nonentity. I guess James and Chelsia are OK, but the few minutes I watched of them on Big Brother After Dark were a big snooze. Not a lot of depth here, either.

The latest in the game is, Alex and Amanda were voted out, Sharon and Joshuah won HOH, the food competition was a huge waste of asparagus (long story) but no one is on slop, and the nominees are Ryan/Allison and Matt/Natalie. Yawn.

Host Julie Chen said "the game will change" on Wednesday. I assume that's when the couples will be split up since otherwise, we're closing on the finals.

Have you found anyone left to root for in this game?

'Big Brother 9': catching up

This season of Big Brother is just not working for me.

I don't really keep up with the feeds because I just don't have that kind of time, but so much interesting has been going on that I keep finding out about things ahead of time.

The huge fight that centered on Amanda last week was showing up on YouTube -- though the clip that I saw cut off before the worst of it. Joshuah said she needed a halo, someone else said "or a noose," and he replied, "Just like her dad." Amanda had revealed to her housemates that her father had hanged himself. She managed to deal with all the other horrible things hurled at her, but once they crossed the line into that personal territory, she finally (and justifiably) lost it.

Last night, the show revealed that two contestants -- Amanda and Allison -- had gone to the hospital at the same time after Amanda had a hypoglycemia attack, passed out and convulsed, and Allison had an allergic reaction that puffed up her face and made her throat close. (These were unrelated but happened nearly instantaneously.) I heard about this on Saturday, but it didn't make the broadcast show until Tuesday.

The way the show is set up, it seems to steal its own thunder at times, which leaves the broadcast show foundering -- and pretty boring.

Although it was pretty interesting last Wednesday when Jen, posturing and trying to stay in the house since she was on the block, turned on her real-life boyfriend Ryan and started telling people that he was a racist. (And then when he caught wind of it and confronted her about it, she claimed she hadn't said it. Um, hello, it's on tape, it's on the Internet and there are people keeping transcripts of the live feeds. So, sorry!)

Since then, Jen and Parker were voted out, James and Chelsia won HOH, Amanda/Alex and Matt/Natalie were nominated for eviction, and Sharon and Joshuah won POV and elected not to use it. Meanwhile, Sheila and Allison took back their lie about being a couple outside and house and got into a huge fight when Sheila (the oldest person in the house) went all seventh-grade on Allison and decided that Allison didn't like her anymore.

I also think this couple thing has got to end soon because after tonight, there will only be five couples left, and that makes the season pretty darned short.

Is anyone else watching? Are you checking out the feeds or the Showtime 2 footage? If so, how has that affected your enjoyment of the regular broadcast show?

'Big Brother 9': controversy behind the scenes

I watched Sunday night's Big Brother 9, but I didn't have much to say about it because really, not a lot happened. (Well, other than everyone finding out that Ryan and Jen are dating, and Allison and Sheila deciding to tell everything that they are a couple outside the house, too, just to throw everyone off.)

Yesterday, though, it became clear that a lot was going on on the live feeds. Gossip blogs were posting links to huge fights and also to footage of sexual activities grabbed during the hours that the contestants are shown live on Showtime every night. (Do these people not realize that 1) their grandmother could be watching and 2) these videos are going to live on in the perpetuity that is the Internet? Yuck.) I don't want to give too much away since hardly any of it has been aired, but hopefully tonight's episode will elucidate some of what's going on behind the scenes.

The other BB news that broke yesterday involved Adam. Last week, my cable was out for a bit, and I came in in the middle of a fight about something he had said about the autistic kids he works with. A national autism group is now calling for an apology from CBS. Read more about that here.

Let's see what goes down on tonight's episode:

'Big Brother: Til Death Do You Part' premiere

So what do you all think about this season's Big Brother twist?

The houseguests were all paired with their "soulmates" (as determined by the producers), with a couple of notable exceptions.

Ryan and Jen are a pre-existing couple who have to play the game without letting anyone know they are boyfriend and girlfriend. But they aren't paired up -- Jen's with paparazzo Parker and Ryan's with pharmaceutical rep/recovering compulsive gambler Allison.

Also, Sharon and Jacob are exes -- they started dating in eighth grade and were together 12 years, including while Jacob was in the Marine Corps. But he cheated, she said nuh-uh and split, and now they are playing the game as a unit. He seems to want to make amends, but thus far, she's not having it.

The other unhappy match is Sheila (former Penthouse Pet of the year, by the way, albeit not recently) and Adam. She doesn't think he's her type, and she was totally rude about it. For his part, Adam didn't appreciate being bad-talked immediately, so that wasn't pretty.

Anyway, the pairing up was the main drama, followed by one competition, for "power couple." Jen and Parker were the ultimate winners, and tomorrow night, they will choose who is first out.

I'd go for Adam and Sheila to decrease the whine factor, but I don't have to live in the house.

'Big Brother 9' preview

The ninth season of Big Brother kicks off Tuesday. See a preview video here.

No Marylanders this time around, although Jacob's bio says he did live in Maryland at some point.

Rumor has it that the season's twist is that the contestants will be assigned into "soulmate" pairs and have to compete as pairs (including for POV, veto, etc.).

Could be interesting. (And if it means the season is half as long, well, that works for me.)

What do you think of this twist?

'Big Brother 8' finale

Here it is, Donato vs. Donato in the Big Brother 8 finale. I don't really care who wins, but (as I have mentioned) I think the reveal of the America's Player twist will be the most interesting part.

First up on the live finale, we see footage of Zach, the newest juror, arriving and the jury discussing their final two. Jen says she wants to see Dick because she thinks he is the worst person she's ever met in her life. Then Zach walks in. They're all upset.

Eric gets his last task, who he should campaign for to win the game: America chooses Dick. Zach and Dustin say they shouldn't vote for Dick because it will condone his awful behavior. Eric says that he Dick made a strategic decision. He adds that his best strategy was to pick the right person at the right time and Daniele's was to ride her dad's coattail. Zach mentions that she won a ton of POVs and tied Janelle's record. Jessica says Daniele was just as evil, only quieter. Zach says Dick was the guard dog and Daniele was making the calls. Jameka says, "Daniele was the pimp and Dick was the ho." Nice. But not totally off the mark.

It stays pretty ugly when the Donatos face jury questioning. Dustin asks Dick how he feels about sitting next to Daniele since she said she wants to sit next to him at the end because he's a horrible person. He talks about how great of a team they are and dodges giving an answer.

Amber asks Daniele why she should vote for her since she did what she did to her boyfriend on national television. Daniele says it's irrelevant and that if she is going to vote based on her personal life, she doesn't want her vote because it has nothing to do with the game.

Jessica asks Dick who, other than Daniele, he would like to be sitting next to at the end. He says he didn't ever think about anyone else and that he didn't lie to Jessica, and she says he did. Which doesn't answer the question.

Eric tells Dick that he's slandered every jury member, so now he should do the opposite and tell why each jury member deserves to be in the final two. (Nice strategy, trying to force him to say nice things about people. But it doesn't exactly work ...) He says Dustin doesn't deserve it, Jen doesn't, Amber doesn't, that Jessica made some moves as HOH, Eric was the best player, that Jameka got to stay in the game longer than she though, and Zach came on strong at the end.

Zach asks Daniele what she has learned from the jury. She says she will take Eric's sense of humor, Jessica's sense of fun, Amber's huge heart. Dick says from Dustin he learned to be careful of overconfidence, that from Jen he learned that no matter what someone looks like on the outside, there is always some semblace of a person on the inside. He adds that Jameka is the best-hearted person in the house and that he respects her, and that Zach taught him not to underestimate someone's will and heart. Everyone rolls their eyes except Zach.

Jameka asks Daniele which game moves she credits herself for. She says "the whole Eric thing" when she was first HOH and back-dooring Jen were both her ideas.

Jen says she doesn't respect either of them as people and then asks Dick whether this experience helped him build his relationship with Daniele. Dick says it's been an amazing experience and that it's a beginning to "build some type of normalcy" in their relationship.

Daniele says she never thought they would work this well together and that they should all vote with their hearts. Dick says he's been playing hard since day one and that he flipped the game when he proposed the alliance with Eric and Jessica. He adds that he feels the worst about turning on them, but that it had to be done, and that he did a lot of the dirty work.

Afterward, Daniele tells him his speech was crappy because he was campaigning against her. He goes to the back yard and talks to himself.

Back to the live show, the jury comes out. Then, Julie starts talking to Dick and Daniele, back in the house. They are happy, shockingly. Then it's time for the votes to be cast, and each jury can make a final statement that doesn't reveal their vote.

Eric is up first and says, "To me, this was a clear-cut choice." (Because he didn't get to choose?) Jameka says congrats and that her vote is going to someone "whose game I respect." Dustin says actions speak louder than words, so he is voting based on "strategic action." Jen votes and says honestly she'd rather vote for anyone besides either of them, but she had to pick. Zach says he got to know both of them since he was in the house longest. So profound! Amber says her decision is based on "game strategic purpose." (What does game strategic purpose mean?) Jessica is voting for "the person I enjoyed most in the house ... may the best Donato win."

Julie introduces two more Donatos -- Dick's mom and son (and Daniele's grandmother and brother). Charlotte says it was a miracle that they got to mend their relationship in the house. Vince says his father is basically exactly the way out of the house as he is in the house.

Then the first five evictees, who have been watching from home and know what's going on, are introduced. Nick says hi to Daniele and that she will see him soon. Julie asks how it was watching her high-school rival last so long in the game. Carol says she was proud of how she handled herself and played the game. Joe says watching Dustin play and great to see him fall apart and then adds what seems like a sincere congratulations. Or sarcastic. Mike says he was rooting for Zach the whole time. Kail says she is not surprised Dick made it this far because he was so strong.

Ooooh, it's twist time!! She tells them there has been a twist playing out the whole summer. "One of you has a secret. One of you has not been playing the game alone. One of you is not all you appear to be," says Julie. Cut to a video of Eric explaining that he has been playing the game for the viewers the whole summer. He says, "Dick, you owe America a big fat thank you." He goes through all the tasks that he had to do.

Julie asks Jessica how she feels since they were so close. "I'm thinking, 'Oh, my God!'" She says she's in shock. Julie asks if she is mad and that she says she hasn't been able to mad at him all season. Julie asks Dick how he feels knowing that he would have been voted out week six if it had not been for America. "I thought I made a great power play in the game, but ..."

Daniele says she had figured out the votes, but the rest she thinks was hilarious. Dustin says Eric could sell anything, and that he isn't mad. Jameka says now it all makes sense, and maybe it was woman's intuition. Julie: "Jen, now you know that it was America who poured mustard on your shirt." Eric tells Amber and Dustin that he totally would have kept them if possible. He adds to Jessica that everything that they shared was truly him and real and sincere.

Vote time!

  • Eric/America's vote: Dick
  • Jameka votes for Daniele
  • Dustin votes for Dick
  • Jen votes for Daniele
  • Zach votes for Dick
  • Amber votes for Dick
  • Jessica votes for Dick

So that means he is the winner. Yawn. The Donatos exit the house and hug everyone. Julie tries to extricate Dick from everyone to interview him, but they end up cutting to commercial. After commercial, Dick says he's going to travel around the world. Daniele says she is ecstatic. She is looking happy next to Nick -- wonder how the boyfriend feels?

So ... that's the end. Once it came down to those two, it didn't really matter (and they said the same thing). But as I suspsected, the twist reveal was the funniest part. I could have watched an hour of people reacting to that news!

'Big Brother' supposed best-of

I'm watching the Big Brother 8 highlights show, and I'm just over it.

Dick and Daniele are reliving the supposed best moments of the show, and it's just a reiteration of how messed up this season has been.

And I hate watching Dick laugh about the cigarette incident -- when he was intentionally trying to burn Jen while she tried to get him to stop blowing smoke in her face. People have been kicked off the show for less than that. (And I've heard he said unprintable, vile things to her that weren't shown on TV.)

One funny thing: Toward the end, Dick says that they couldn't have made it to the end without each other, and Daniele has this look on her face like, "Not so sure about that one, dude."

Tuesday, we'll see who wins. Like I said before, I think the most interesting thing is going to be the reaction to the America's Player twist.

'Big Brother 8': Donato vs. Donato

Oh, what a snoozer. After all the final HOH drama on Big Brother 8, Dick won, and of course he picked Daniele to go to the finale. So with a father and daughter as the final two, does it really matter who wins? They are going to share no matter what, right? They seem to have gotten over at least some of their issues. Maybe a little moolah will help, too.

The finale is on Tuesday, and I think the best part will be seeing people's reactions (especially Jessica's) when Eric reveals he has been playing on behalf of America all summer.

'Big Brother 8': Farewell, Jameka

This is our final three in Big Brother 8? The Donatos and Zach?

Blech.

In last night's Tuesday eviction episode, the only hope of either Dick or Daniele going home was Jameka (of Waldorf, Md.) or Zach winning the power of veto. They studied, going over every detail they could think of from the past 74 days of the game.

But when it was game time, it was no contest. The producers were smart and clearly asked each of the contestants in the diary room what their strategy had been. Daniele's was to arrange all the faces among all the clues and then spin the wheel to find out the number that would go under the face. (Together, the set of numbers would give the number of seconds they'd been in the house.) Dick's strategy was to place a face on the board and immediately spin the wheel to find the number. Jameka and Zach's strategies were more like, "I just kept looking at it, trying to figure it out." (Personally, I would have done the math and figured out at least the first digit and used the wheel backward to find the face.)

Anyway, Daniele won, and once that happened, it was a no-brainer. No matter who she removed from the block (herself or her father), Jameka would go on the block and the other Donato was going to vote to evict her.

'Big Brother 8': Waldorf's Jameka makes her move

On last night's Big Brother 8, Jameka finally made a move in this game. Dick and Daniele kept her instead of Jessica last Thursday and forced her to ally with them. Zach, who won head of household, was also allied with them.

But Zach and Jameka realized that they don't have a chance if the Donatos get into the final three together. So they bonded together and are going to try to take out Dick and Daniele, both of whom Zach put on the block.

Neither Zach nor Jameka has had a particularly good showing in veto competitions, but hey, anything can happen. I'm so over Dick and Daniele. But it's tough because I'm a fan of the game, and Zach and Jameka haven't really been playing much.

We'll see what happens on Tuesday, but at this point, every move can make a difference.

'Big Brother 8': double eviction night

Tonight on Big Brother 8, two people are going home, but they don't know that yet. Ooh, the power we hold!

Jessica and Waldorf, Md.'s Jameka are on the block, and one of them is definitely going home. But before the end of the hour, someone else will be, too.

America's Player Eric learns that his next task is to campaign to send Jameka home.

Host Julie Chen springs the whole double-eviction news on the houseguests. Jameka says she has enjoyed her time in the house, and that she has given her word and it's something they can believe in. "I hope that I'm still here," she closes. Jessica says this has been the hardest week for her so far, being on the block with her friend.

'Big Brother' backlog

I have been meaning to post about Big Brother 8 for several days, but it hasn't been that interesting, and it's been busy. Then last night, which I was looking forward to thanks to the return of all-star Janelle, we had cable issues at home, and I haven't seen it yet. But here is the lowdown:

Last Thursday, delusional Wahhhmber was sent packing, and I, for one, was glad. She was sent home over Zach in part because America had voted for Eric to persuade everyone to kick her out. Part of Eric's logic was that Zach never won challenges, and so Jessica need not be worried about keeping him around. Then Zach won the head of household challenge. Whoops!

The challenge involved the players having to slide on bowling-type lanes covered with oil, filling a big bowl at one end from a container at the other end using only a teacup. I think at one point, they said it would be a total of like seven miles to go back and forth enough times to fill the bowl.

So Zach nominated Jessica and Jameka, and I don't know who won POV since I missed the episode, but it wasn't used.

It seems like the Dick-Daniele-Eric-Jessica alliance is probably going to fall apart since there aren't that many people left in the house, and none in this group of four is in charge.

I don't have much more to say since I haven't seen yesterday's yet. How was it? Anyone still watching this supposed social experiment?

'Big Brother 8': When editors attack

It's patently obvious that the editors on Big Brother 8 are sick of Amber, and I can't say I blame them. The sniveling, the questions about what simple words mean, the delusion that the audience just loves her. (If only she knew the audience kept telling America's Player to get her out of the house!)

On Sunday, they showed a clip of her talking to Jameka about how she was thinking of going on Top Model because she really has the face and body and the personality for it. The editors followed up with a mean (but admittedly funny) montage of her making horrible faces and stuffing her mouth with food and bawling.

But nothing annoys me as much as dragging God into the game. And I think it's getting to the editors, too, because they showed clips of Amber on Sunday and last night fervently praying out loud and crying. Both of these prayers included the line, "God bless you, God," and both times, I laughed and laughed and laughed some more.

Bless yourself before you wreck yourself!

Again, I'm not mocking religion, just Amber, who has become this strange, self-deluded caricature. I'm tearing up just thinking about her! (Kidding.)

And a game update: Zach and Amber are on the block, and Eric won the POV and left nominations the same. So the town crier or ... the nondescript brunette dude will be out tomorrow.

Jen melts down, gets kicked off 'BB8'

Upon becoming the replacement nominee on Tuesday's Big Brother 8, Jen realized she was HOH Daniele's true target, and she felt betrayed. Her response to this betrayal? She cooked and ate dinner, despite being only 360 hours into her 720-hour "slop" restriction that she volunteered for during a previous power of veto competition.

She got fed up with Dick's smoking, particularly his habit of blowing smoke in her face to try to make her go away, hid her own clothes and then dug up his stash of cigs (four cartons' worth), dumped them out, stomped on them and poured bleach on them.

Because she violated the food restriction (which hasn't ever happened before), she was given a penalty vote. But that didn't matter much because everyone else in the house voted for her to go, too. She knew it was coming and gave a pretty bratty speech about how she was a nice, positive, honest person and that's why she didn't fit in with anyone.

But because Jen was out, Waldorf, Md's Jameka was safe and remains in the game.

As part of the veto competition, Amber and Daniele won the chance to leave the house, go to New York and compete on Power of 10 (that will air Tuesday before Big Brother). The biggest moment of self-delusion I have ever witnessed came when Amber interviewed that since she is such a positive person, she knew that the crowd would just love her and adore her and cheer for her. She clearly doesn't know how viewers are actually reacting to her. Besides Sunday's montage of asking for definitions of truly easy words all the time, there are also some choice clips from the live feeds on YouTube of her saying some pretty horrendous things about entire groups of people. These aren't edited and the language is harsh, so sadly, I'm not linking, but you can find them yourself if you want to. When she got in front of the audience, she was waving her arms around to everyone in this sad, "oh-you're-so-glad-to-see-me" kind of way. Yecch.

In the end, Jessica won HOH again, so the Eric/America-Jessica-Dick-Daniele alliance is sure to take out somebody else, unless things get all mixed up again. Which could totally happen.

'Big Brother' catch up

Tonight, we'll see if Maryland Big Brother 8 contestant Jameka can win the power of veto and remove herself from the block. She and Amber are nominated, but head of household Daniele says her target is Jen.

I don't think anyone would be too sad to see Jen go. Or Amber, for that matter. We already know that she bawls her head off all the time, but on Sunday night, a montage revealed that she's not the sharpest knife in the drawer. She's constantly asking the meaning of words -- not hard words, but words like "defy" and "backdoor" and "superficial" and "integrity." That's just embarrassing.

Everyone seems to like Jameka pretty well, though, so I hope she will be safe. With the Eric-Jessica-Dick-Daniele alliance in place, though, I don't think she has too long left in the game. Maybe if Amber gets kicked out, Jameka can wrangle her way back into the game. We shall see.

'Big Brother 8': trying to care ... and failing

I'm about three episodes behind on recapping BB8 -- and this after my last post on the show said I'd been dragged back in, too. I think I spoke too soon.

So what has happened? HOH Jessica nominated Dick and Daniele, Dick won POV and took Daniele off the block, and Jessica put up Dustin (who had volunteered).

In the meantime, Dick fought with just about everyone, especially Maryland player Jameka. He tries to get underneath everyone's skin about whatever means the most to him. I assume he'll be out tonight, but who knows.

Oh, and the America's Player twist continued to wreak havoc with Eric's game, when he had to try to give Jessica the silent treatment. Now she thinks he is in on some plot with Dustin and Dick and doesn't trust him. Can't he just say no to some tasks? He's never going to make it out of there unscathed if this keeps happening.

Everyone screams, everyone cries, Dick yells at everyone ... it hasn't been a fun show of late.

'Big Brother 8': The tide is changing

Huh. All this time, when the captions on Big Brother 8 said "Evel Dick," I assumed it was a typo, but I guess he's styling himself after Mr. Knievel.

Anyway, I might have just gotten dragged back in to this train wreck. Dick and Daniele were sure they were getting Eric out of the house, but the vote split the other way, and Kail is out. Dick was furious, screaming at the people who he believed were going to vote to evict Eric, but none of them seemed to care. I think his act might be wearing thin.

Then Jessica won HOH, and since she's Eric's BFF, things shouldn't be as awkward for him with the whole "America's Player" thing, at least for a week. I just hope this group doesn't get too cocky. But they probably will. And then I'll be annoyed with the show again.

The most notable moment of the episode (beside Julie giving away an answer during the HOH competition when she called Eric "Nick" -- Nick was the answer) was Amber's total meltdown against Eric. Apparently at some point, she spilled some dark secret about a lie she had told her boyfriend, and for some unknown reason, Eric told Dick about how he had information on Amber that he was keeping in his back pocket to use against her at some point. What on earth would have possessed him to say that? Anyway, she confronted him in front of the whole house, and it was ugly. But since people voted for him to stay, I think there must have been some aftermath we didn't see.

Yes, I know if I was watching the feeds, I would know what that aftermath is, but I'm not that back on board with the show.

I think they need to target Dick because 1) I'm tired of watching him yell at everyone and 2) I think Daniele would play a much cleaner game without him. I feel bad that she's been saddled with this heavily tattooed emotional baggage.

'Big Brother 8': The end for 'America's Player'?

I missed the first part of it last night, but it seems like Eric is in major jeopardy tomorrow night on Big Brother 8. He had to do so much manipulation and spin because of the "America's Player" twist that now, lots of people don't trust him. He still has a few allies, but I don't know if it's going to work out for him. If it does tomorrow, I still think it's all going to backfire on him soon.

'Big Brother 8': getting over it

I'm really trying to stick it out with Big Brother this season, but they aren't making it easy.

I'm tired of watching estranged father and daughter Dick and Daniele (the only sworn enemies left in the house from the first twist) fight. I'm tired of watching Amber bawl about everything. I'm tired of watching great player Eric have all of his strategy undone by the "America's Player" twist. (Seriously, how is he ever going to make an alliance? He can't promise anything since he isn't choosing who he votes for or even campaigns for.)

Above all, I'm tired of the players talking about God's will in the Big Brother house. Amber and Kail have both talked about how God put them on the block to see how they handled the test. (I thought that was the HOH.) And I missed Tuesday's episode, but I hear that Maryland player Jameka decided that being chosen for the POV competition was a sign from God and that the whole game is pre-ordained.

Now, I mean no disrepect toward anyone's faith. I just have a really hard time with the idea that God cares about Big Brother (or sports or who wins Grammys or whatever).

Plus, I just don't see how he could find a way to care about this boring season.

'Big Brother 8': POV and more

It was another yawner of an episode, but here's the main points: POV came down to Dick and Jen. Mike tried to distract Dick, who got very frustrated. He gave the win to Jen and told Mike he was going to be on the block.

So of course Jen took herself off the block, and as he mentioned, Dick put Mike on the block, so either Mike or Kail will be out on Thursday.

Dick and Daniele had a kind of horrible conversation about how Dick was alienating everyone in the game. But it ended up being about how they cannot communicate with each other. Later, Dick told Daniele that once they are free from the confines of the game, they should go to family counseling to learn how to talk to each other and deal with their issues. I think putting these two in the house together was pretty cruel -- they have lots of problems. But I think they could work through them.

'Big Brother 8': catching up

So, since last I posted about Big Brother 8, Daniele won power of veto and took herself off the block, HOH Jen put Joe on in her place, the house voted 9-1 to kick out Joe, and then Evil Dick won the next HOH competition.

So tonight the big question is, who will Dick put on the block? Odds are good Kail will be one of the choices, since she was the only one who voted for him and since she got caught campaigning against him.

(Best quote of the first five minutes? Kail: "I knew instantly it was me! I knew I was the one vote, and apparently I am all by myself." Wow, she is brilliant. She remembered who she cast her vote for!) But yes, it's true ... where were the other three in her supposed alliance?

Zach interviews that the alliance of four "is failing, and it's probably done."

Kail runs around trying to get the members of her alliance (especially Mike -- I think, there are too many generic looking brunette guys in her alliance) to tell her why they didn't tell her they were changing their votes to save Dick, leaving her high and dry. She also thinks her alliance is over.

When it's time for the HOH room reveal, it's a little different this time since Dick's family photos include pictures of Daniele. She says it reminds her that they did have some good times.

Amber, of course, cries in her interview about how great it was to see Dick's pictures. (I assume she's been named "Wahhh-mber" in all the web forums, but I haven't actually checked.)

Later, Kail tells Dick about her alliance, trying to explain why she voted for him. But Dick sees through this covering-her-tail maneuver and seems disgusted that she's selling out her alliance, too. Kail also tells Dick if she wants to go after her for "a personal vendenna." VENDENNA. Where did this woman learn to speak?

Random footage of the day is Jen and Eric fight-wrestling. Yawn. Later, in a conversation about the movie Van Wilder, Nick reveals that he has a list of his top-five girls and guys, and that Ryan Reynolds is on the latter list. The other men find this odd. He goes to tell Daniele about it and clarifies that his list is the top five male celebrities he would date if he was gay. Then he claims he scrapped his list of female celebrities since he met Daniele. Daniele interviews that she cares about Nick, but has a boyfriend back home who she's "absolutely crazy in love with."

Later, she goes out to the hammock and talks to her dad about how frustrated she is with the situation and that she is worried she is hurting her boyfriend. He gives her some good advice and adds that, inside or outside the house, she can always talk to him. He really seems to be trying.

Maryland player Jameka makes a rare appearance when it's time to talk about slop. She's been on the slop diet for two straight weeks. She struggles and cries her way through a bowl of the stuff because she's starving. Meanwhile, Amber is on the verge of tears talking about how hard it was for Jameka to eat the slop. Then, in an interview, Jen says, "Since I have not been on slop, I don't really feel bad for people who are on it. I suck at that, um, feeling bad thing, but I, um, definitely feel something." Jameka says she wants to get off slop next week, so she can get back into the game.

Later, during dinner, Dick makes a comment about how hard it is to eat with all the slop-diet people staring at him, saying it's like "being in Africa, eating a hamburger or something." Jameka chimes in, "or Asia, or the United States," and Dick gets upset, thinking she is accusing him of making a racist statement. They go into another room to discuss it and she explains that it wasn't against him, but just to clarify for people who might be listening and thinking that the only thing in Africa is starving people -- or that Africa is the only place where that's a problem. She gets emotional about how hard it is being the only minority in the house because she feels like she has to be cognizant of how she is portraying herself at all times. She just seems really overwhelmed, and having been on slop for two weeks is probably not helping.

Speaking of which, the food competition is next, "Mission Inpastabowl." As a group, the house gets halibut, lobster tail, juice, a grill, pasta, chips, sweet breads (cow pancreas, not pastry), melons, cucumber, bananas, hamburger, cereal and milk. So some of these folks will be getting food for the first time in two weeks.

Next, Eric is told his next task as America's Player is to get Jen nominated. He thinks it will be cake.

Kail starts quizzing Dustin about supposedly gay characters and whether they really are gay. First, they talk about Robin of Batman and Robin, and next she asks him about Barney. He says, "I think that was just a rumor. And plus, he's a fictional dinosaur character; I don't think he has sexual preferences." Kail interviews that her community is really small and so she doesn't know any gay people. "I don't think I'll ever be good at spotting a gay guy because I don't look for that. Unless they're gonna be wearin' their full makeup; then it's a giveaway." This woman is a brilliant businesswoman? Oy.

Nomination time. Jameka is the first safe person. ("Happy birthday," says Dick.) Kail and Jen, not shockingly, are targeted.

Seeing either one of those two evicted would be fine by me!

'Big Brother 8' nominations and more

Not a lot happened on last night's Big Brother 8. Jen nominated Daniele (who spends more time with Nick than Jen does) and Dick (who regularly yells at Jen), so it wasn't that big of a surprise.

In the food competition, the teams played "name that pie," which had some horrible combinations they had to try to guess, including such ingredients as jelly beans, clams and others.

Ick.

But it's still not grabbed my attention. How about you?

Boring 'Big Brother'

It was a yawner of an episode last night on Big Brother 8. Carol was evicted by a 10-to-1 vote and was deemed a nonentity by her competitors. I really think her game was thrown off by the arrival of rival Jessica. It seems like she never let her guard down, and that was a problem. Or maybe she really is that boring.

Then, shocker of shockers, Jen, who had seemed to be the most useless and unliked player, won Head of Household. So much for an easy eviction next week! (Of course, I think she won not because she figured out the trick tie-breaker question as much as lucked out.)

But my favorite part of the episode was the total dismay with which Eric's friends and family met the news that he was "America's Player." They let slip that he is a huge fan of the show and knows every bit of trivia. They're concerned that he won't be able to use his own strategy and will get hamstrung by the voters.

Overall, though? Snooze. My friends who have been die-hard (albeit some of them embarrassed) fans of this show are bailing in droves. My problem thus far is that I don't really like anyone. Of course, the players I ended up rooting for in the past (one example: Janelle), I really didn't like at the beginning. So things could change.

'Big Brother 8': first POV

On last night's Big Brother 8, Daniele won the first power of veto but declined to use it, which means that either Carol or Amber will be going home tomorrow.

But the other big news of the evening was that the tide was turning against Jen. Seemingly at once, everyone decided that she was shallow and annoying and had nothing to offer. (Not even the "pithy" sayings on her skimpy shirts: "Jenth Degree," "Jenius," etc.) Best of all was when she flat-out lied that Nick, an avowed flirt, had tried to kiss her. Joe walked right in to find Nick and tell him about it, and Nick was furious! You might think, oh, he was just being defensive and trying to hide it, but if you had seen the look on her face when she realized she was being confronted with her lie, you would know. She seemed to think that of course, no one would question the fact that a guy would try to kiss her, the actress/model/waitress/hostess/etc. So everyone's patience ran out with her at the same time.

Still, despite the idea of getting someone off the block and putting Jen up instead, Daniele opted to not rock the boat and left Kail's nominations alone.

The other thing that stood out from last night's episode was Amber's discussion of (and out loud with) God. Now, I don't have a problem with faith or prayer, but when she interviewed that "God put me on the block," I was annoyed. KAIL put you on the block! I'm hoping that God has better things to do than decide the nominations on Big Brother.

I think, though, that Amber is probably safe. People seem to like her, and Carol is just kind of boring. Which is unfortunate, because I like watching her much more than her annoying enemy Jessica. I would have stopped talking to Jessica, too, just to avoid the sound of her voice.

'Big Brother 8': first nominations

jen.jpg

Without a doubt, the best moment in last night's Big Brother 8 was when the houseguests' photographs were revealed on the living-room wall, and Jen hated her picture so much that she started crying.

Not just a couple of tears of frustration, but a full-on meltdown that continued in the diary room. So self-centered! So awesome!

Frankly, it amused me even more because during the first episode, in which Jen managed to mention her own beauty a few times, I had already begun to think that she might not be as cute as she thinks she is.

The meltdown only made that seem more probable. (Also, the photo above is not the one that caused the breakdown, but it's the one on the CBS web page at the moment.)

Other things I noted:

  • Evil Dick is a huge name-dropper, and it's gotten amazingly old considering he's only gotten about five minutes of screen time thus far.
  • The Kail, Mike, Zach and Nick alliance bores me.
  • Jessica is insanely vapid and I cannot stand the sound of her voice. That alone would be enough to keep me away from the live feeds.
  • Speaking of annoying voices, Kail, a 37-year-old woman, speaks like a first-grader.
The nominees for the week are Carol and Amber, which HOH Kail said was because they were the first ones out of the first HOH competition. She might sound like a first-grader, but that is a pretty smart approach because it's difficult to argue with. (Last night's show can be watched here. I'm still waiting for the highlights we're supposed to be able to embed in blogs and such. Am I just overlooking them?)

'Big Brother 8': and so it begins

Last night, Big Brother 8 started off with a bang. We got to briefly know the players and watched as they learned about this season's first twist: that some people's "sworn enemies" would also be in the house.

At the beginning of the show, 11 of the 14 contestants were let into the house in groups with one minute to choose a bed. One of the other twists is that the house is decorated a la Alice in Wonderland, which meant that some of the beds were oversized, and some of them were tiny.

Then it was shown that three people were already in the house -- these were the sworn enemies, who would be introduced later. They were told that they would have people from their past in the house before the others learned of their existence and got to watch the other 11 houseguests for a while.

The enemies break down like so:

Joe and Dustin: Ex-boyfriends who had a nasty break-up in which Joe admits he tried to destroy Dustin's life.

Daniele and "Evil" Dick": Estranged daughter and father, though we haven't heard much more than that.

Carol and Jessica: Onetime best friends, then rivals in high school. Thus far, the problematic feature in their relationship seems to be a dispute over a $5 loan in seventh grade. Boring, but possibly catty.

The other major revelation was about "America's Houseguest." This season, viewers will be able to give this person "orders," and he will receive $5,000 for every five tasks he completes. This was revealed toward the end of the show, and just before the person walked into the Diary Room, I said, "Please don't let it be Eric," who had proven to be a little irritating over the course of the show. It's Eric. My first task would be for him to fold his collar back down.

The other major news of the episode was that Kail, the oldest woman in the house at 37, won the Head of Household competition. Most of her airtime involved her telling the screen that she'd be "heartbroken" if one of her children "chose the gay lifestyle" (oy) and that her big secret is that she is a "multi-business owner" and "runs" her small town of McKenzie Bridge, Ore. Humble!

Maryland contestant Jameka didn't get a ton of screen time, though she did mention she is not used to being around so many white people. (And seriously, this appears to be a pretty non-diverse cast.)

So that's how it's started. We'll find out more on Sunday and Tuesday, I'm sure. Just please tell me I'm not the only person watching!

'Big Brother 8' cast includes Maryland woman

I'm still looking for a press release from CBS, but Variety reports some news on Big Brother 8, which starts next Thursday at 8 p.m. They have photos of the cast and some details, including that the theme will be "Alice in Wonderland," that "America's Player" will have to carry out some surreptitious tasks for extra cash, and that some of the contestants will be people who have "beefs" with one another. Oooh, tricky.

And for local readers, contestant Jameka is 28 and from Waldorf, Md. Anyone know her?

Here is a preview from today's Early Show.

Regarding Jameka, in the video above, she says that she is from Temple Hills, Md. She also says that she has been exclusively around black people for about "99 percent" of her life, so she thinks it will be interesting to be on the show. A week from today, y'all. Oh, how I hate how much I get addicted to this show.

P.S. Thanks to my friend Erika for the links!

'Big Brother 8' details announced

I have to confess a serious weakness for Big Brother. I don't know what the deal is, but I get sucked into the show every season. So imagine my mixed emotions to learn that there will be even more ways to watch the show this season. CBS announced more details about the the season yesterday. Here they are:

  • The show kicks of July 5 and will air on Tuesday, Thursday and Sundays.
  • Big Brother: After Dark, a "a live look inside the BIG BROTHER house during the late-night hours," will air on Showtime partner ShoToo from midnight to 3 a.m. every night during the show.
  • Full episodes and highlight clips will be available online for "fans to watch the programs online and incorporate clips into their blogs, wikis, widgets and community pages."
  • Streaming live video will also be available this season, as it has from the beginning of the show.
  • Mobile updates and video content, which started last season, will be available this season as well.
So clearly, they're expecting a lot of racy behavior to show in the evening hours. (How boring would it be if the contestants were sleeping between midnight and 3 a.m. every day?) I'm wondering what this season's big twist will be. I'll keep an eye out and post an update if I hear anything else about that or about the cast, though both of those bits of news aren't likely to be public until we're closer to the premiere date.
