Adam Lambert crashes and burns in American Music Awards debut
"American Idol" runner up Adam Lambert made quite a splash at last night's American Music Awards -- and not in a good way.The crooner with the Broadway rocker sound appeared to be channeling "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and Madonna's "Justify My Love" video, with a super-sized dose of kink!
During his four-minute performance, he pulled a male background dancer's face into his crotch. Just to show that he's an equal opportunist, he allowed a female background dancer to rub her hands over the same area. That's not all. Later, Lambert rubbed his hands all over a female dancer. Did I forget to mention the make-out session he had with his keyboard player?
And yes, I caught him trying to cover up falling during the middle of the performance. And lets put performance in "air quotes" while I'm at it. He did more shrieking than singing. The song "For Your Entertainment" was simply terrible.
I've heard a slew of folks try to mention Lambert in the same sentence as Lady Gaga. That comparison is not working. Lady Gaga -- as she proved last night -- is on another planet. But she's artistic, and she sounds good. Adam Lambert looked like a little kid who raided his mother's makeup kit for some attention. It didn't work at all!

Note from SKK: By the way, Adam's album is out today. Anybody going to run out and buy it after this performance?

Comments
I see you prefered Eminem's lyrics of raping a woman or maybe it was Shakira's doggy style sex with her female dancers.

Many people in the world will be delighted with the performance, and the controversy, Adam's performance generated. And the fall? He handled that like a true professional!

The music and the singing were the worst part of it all for me. He can sing, what the hell happened there?? I'm flabbergasted. He needs to concentrate on songs and singing first, especially for a debut. Bad, bad move. I am a fan and I feel betrayed.
Posted by: karen | November 23, 2009 1:51 PM
He didn't sing any better or worse than he ever has......I agree with Adam.......People can take seeing two women kiss but they just can't take it when two men do. Adam pushed the envelope. Go Adam!
Posted by: gary | November 23, 2009 2:11 PM
That was the most discusting and stupid performance I've ever seen. Adam states that it is funny, but it was not funny at all..He looked angry and out-of-place & I wish I would never have seen it. If indeed he wants to be a singer, then maybe he should concentrate on singing and not the circus agenda.
Posted by: Lorae | November 23, 2009 2:12 PM
Although I was saddened by Adams worst performance ever in front of a huge audience (T.V) This man can definitely sing and I love him album. He did himself the injustice, but I will not deprive myself of his talent because of one no so stellar singing performance. The stage performance didn't offend me but it messed up his singing. :( I guess too much adrenaline. I've been there done that. Adam you rock so tone down the show a bit so you can sing!!
Posted by: Dom7p | November 23, 2009 2:13 PM
Adam was VILE and DISGUSTING. This was trash at its finest...all in the name of Art. HA! Adam should go back under the rock that he appears to like. Adams TRUE SELF WAS REVEALED. I was a HUGE fan, I am no longer.
Posted by: niki | November 23, 2009 2:15 PM
I can say that ABC executives should have put a stop to this. I will not buy an Adam Lambert CD, I was his biggest fan until last night. Don't tell me I should turn off my TV, it is my TV too! I have a right to watch TV and not be shocked so somebody can make a zillion dollars. It was horrible beyond words. I sm sorry for every vote I gave that man. Chris Allen, I apologize.

Review the song and the performance, not the silly shock stunts.
He sounded awful, danced awful, fell down and gave a very bad performance.

These stars with their out of order, mouth to mouth passionate kissing, is stirring up many questions. What are they trying to say?
Posted by: thewinn2007 | November 23, 2009 2:18 PM
One of the hallmarks of a gited performer is the ability to get back up, and go on with the show. I loved that performance. I love the fact that I never know what he is going to do. His concerts are going to be spectacular, and I for one intend to be there.
Posted by: Wicked Glitter | November 23, 2009 2:20 PM
I loved it. I thought he used the lyrics of the song to show us a message and he worked both into his choreographed routine well. Every artist who performed that night had trouble with their audios. Whoever's job it was to ensure pitch problems with the audio sure did have trouble. A couple of the artist you couldn't even hear. As far as you getting upset with Adam's sexuality in his song I guess you didn't have any problem with Janet Jackson's opening number? She grabbed her own crotch plenty and also felt up one of her own dancers and then grabbed his crotch. But I guess that again didn't have the massives sending their children to bed. I guess Rhianna's full naked body girating on an operating table didn't upset you or Shakira's pelvic thrusting dancers who do Shakira sandwiches was okay for your sexual appetite as well. You didn't mind when JLo fell on her butt or Keith Urban pitched his song all over the stage. You had no trouble with the rap artist who sang of raping a female and bashed on homos. You also haven't had any problems with women on women action in the past decade as seen on tv, movies, concerts, Stage shows. No I think Adam Lambert is really brave and has some huge _alls to have done what he did on his first TV performance. And yes, in your face Out Magazine! I for one really LOVED his performance as well as Lady Gagas and thought the two of them were the true face of the next wave of music artists.
Posted by: Chance | November 23, 2009 2:26 PM
I thank Adam is a fabulous singer but it did not shine through on this number because of all the disgusting antics going on. He tried too hard to wow and it backfired. Better luck next time, if there is a next time.
Posted by: grace | November 23, 2009 2:27 PM
It was such a failure. I was thinking about buying his album, but after seeing this performance, I don't think he's the type of artist I would like to support. What was he thinking!?
Posted by: Raul | November 23, 2009 2:28 PM
At this point I'm thinking Adam kissed the keyboardist just so he and his fans would have an excuse when people called his performance a mess the next day. No, his performance was not a mess because he kissed a dude. It was a mess because he sounded terrible, he fell, and the choreography was jumbled and overdone. Even without the boy-boy kiss the rest of his antics crossed the line from provocative to trashy. It's the difference between a high-class burlesque show and a strip joint--with Adam's performance being the strip joint. Yes, we get it Adam; you want to "push down boundaries." Next time, show a little more restraint and make it actually enjoyable.
By the way, that Britney/Madonna/Christina kiss was on cable TV, not broadcast TV. Apparently Adam doesn't realize that ABC has to play by a whole different set of FCC rules than MTV.
Posted by: Mary | November 23, 2009 2:31 PM
I want to first say that ok. You have your own opinion, but my opinion was that yes there was some shock in it. But if you look back at the mtv awards lady gaga was bleeding. They wouldn't be an artist if they couldn't do what ever they want.
Posted by: Matthew | November 23, 2009 2:37 PM
This was the trashiest awards show I have ever watched.
These stars have to remember, they have teenagers idolizing them, and this is what they perceive as talent.
They need to stick with singing, which is what this award show is all about, and leave that kind of entertainment to the clubs.
It was sooooo disappointing, and most people feel the same way.
Next time, they should try to show more class, and less everything else.
Posted by: Ann | November 23, 2009 2:38 PM
I'm glad this performance is done just like his career will be.
Seriously!! He is just as confused with his music as is his sexuality!!! If anyone thinks Adam will be around in a year good luck with that.
He doesn't sing he screams and your ears will be burning after one song on any album.
Posted by: lifesaver | November 23, 2009 2:51 PM
Adam Lambert's performance was trashy, boring and a cheap imitation of so many groups who use this type of behavior because they have no talent. He had an incredible opportunity in performing at the AMA, to be recognized and launched. In my opinion, he trashed his career last night for the sake of sensationalism. It's not about being gay or not being gay. He has incredible talent, innovative approaches to music and a fantastic voice. Apparently, he left all of these attributes back stage. I hope he hears what people are saying and doesn't try to defend his offensive actions of last night.
Posted by: Bill Burke | November 23, 2009 2:53 PM
That was an amazing performance...I don't know who wrote that artice. HELLO - when was the last time you've seen such energy?
Posted by: Paul | November 23, 2009 2:54 PM
This guy is disgusting. The only thing I saw was a DEMON or possessed DEVIL that had been released.
He was actually appalling and a disgrace to music.
I was so grossed out I'm thinking about BANNING television.
I hope he repents and seeks the Lord for his own good.

Hi folks! It's me John-John. (I wrote this blog post.) In full disclosure: I'm an out gay male. I just love it that people assume I have a problem with same sex kissing. I DON'T. I do have a problem with his equal opportunity attitude he displayed in man handling everyone on stage. It was just tacky. And I agree that it makes gay people look oversexed.
And lets address the actual singing. It was terrible! He was doing more shrieking than singing. Are they doing a "Rocky Horror Picture Show" remake that I haven't heard about? Was he trying to audition for it? If so, I assure you he wouldn't get the role. Without a doubt, it was the worst performance of the night. It was because of a combination of things. The song is bad. The "dancing" was lame. And the "artistic" shock value was simply not there. He should have taken some notes from Lady Gaga. Yeah, she looked a little crazy, but her vocals were in check. It's not the responsibility of the stage crew to make sure that the vocals are in pitch. That is his voice that betrayed him. Time to go back to the drawing board and rethink his image STAT...
Posted by: John-John Williams IV | November 23, 2009 3:01 PM
This performance was trashy and vulgar. I think Adam is a good singer but after watching the freak show last evening I will never watch him perform again. ABC you could have stopped this before it happened. Such vulgarity should not be allowed on TV.
Posted by: Barbara Stealy | November 23, 2009 3:02 PM
Adam was given the chance of a lifetime and this is the type of performance he chose to close the AMA's? He would have been the talk of the show had he just used that magnificent voice of his and used his dancers in a respectable way. Is it too much to ask an entertainer to exhibit decency and respect? Just because others have acted inappropriately over the years, doesn't make it right. Is this really what some people find enjoyable? It's too bad because he really could have made a respectable name for himself.
Posted by: Eve | November 23, 2009 3:02 PM
It was not so much the kiss, who cares if he is gay...the crotch grabbing past the 5 second rule was bad enough but the head grabbing to his own gratification was Lewd and DISGUSTING, ADAM YOU B L E W IT WITH ME.......(PUN INTENDED)

My kids, wife and I were such a Adam Lambert fan. They wanted so bad to see him perform last night but luckily fell asleep.I think what Adam does not realize is that people voted for him on American Idol even thought there where all the gay pictures and talk. Lets face it lots of great gay performers out there. People are slowly adjusting to the gay movement and although I find it wrong I try to explain to my kids the best I know how about why same sex wants to be the other. To me there is a huge diffrence between being gay and being trash Once again I am gald my kids fell alseep so I did not have to explain to them why he was kissing and grinding guys and a girl.If I have one piece of advise for Adam is although you have those kinda feelings utilize a saying I have always heard, do not mix business with pleasure.I would say he already has the gay dollar why go out and loose the straight dollar. My family who had intentions of buying his music will not buy anything he is involved in.We took our kids to Charlotte for the idol concert, my youngest son had his hair painted black and spiked up he was so happy to get to see his FAVORITE singer in the world. We had already planned to get front row tickets for our boys when Adam came close to us in concert. Last night changed it all for us, I can not take the chance that his concerts which are no FCC mandated turn out to be like that risky performance. I will avoid any exposure of this guy to my children from here on. I wanna say again not because he is gay but because he does not care about fans.
Posted by: Heart Broken | November 23, 2009 3:08 PM
Wow, Lambert was over the top? Michael Jackson used to grab his own crotch and sister did the same last night, Madonna and Brittany kissed, guess that was ok, Eminem sings about rape, Lady Gaga wears what amounts to a nylon on her body and the performance with our beloved rappers had to be totally bleeped because of swearing. Go, Adam still love ya.
Posted by: Susan | November 23, 2009 3:16 PM
Chance: Well said.
I feel like Lambert's performance was exactly what he said it would be last week during rehearsals. Why is everyone so surprised? I'm sure ABC had to see his rehearsals before they'd air it live. And now everyone knows that shocking things could happen at the AMAs in the future (just like MTV's VMAs, etc.). This will in turn increase ratings, advertising dollars, and so on for the network. I'm sure ABC is working on sending him a 'thank you' card. Just kidding. :)
I'll be heading over to buy Lambert's album as soon as I get off work.
Also, see this Associate Press article, found on Washington Post.

I am an Adam Lambert fan but that was just uncomfortable to watch and inappropriate. Come on Adam, really? It's on abc, keep it clean.
Posted by: Hannah | November 23, 2009 3:18 PM
How can anyone trash one person when the whole show was same, we watched the show only to see Adam. We were disappointed in the whole show beginning to end, the whole show and music agenda today is trashy, flashy and bashy.
I loved Adams ballad voice and that is the Adam everyone was hoping to see.....it is now a Time For Miracles.
Bring it on Adam!
SKK: Since this is a reality TV blog, we're focusing on the Idol runner-up making his debut, not the rest of the show.
Posted by: Adamfan | November 23, 2009 3:19 PM
Definitely came off like someone trying too hard. I had to look away from the TV....train wreck. Some of the other performers mentioned definitely push the limits..but most can pull it off. This didn't work.
Posted by: Rob | November 23, 2009 3:23 PM
I am extremely disappointed in Dick Clark and in all the artists who have forgotten that its not about shock value its about the music! I lost count at how many songs had the lyrics bleeped out - and most of the lyrics you could hear you couldn't make out. Thank goodness for artists like Taylor Swift who sings songs pure at heart! She definitely deserves all the awards she received!!!!!
Posted by: Lucy | November 23, 2009 3:27 PM
I though Lamberts performance was the BEST of the whole night!!!! Made it worth having to sit through Keith Urban, Rihanna and all that RAP CRAP!!! I'm watching Lambert's success and wishing him the best. All you prudes-get a life! And put your kids to bed by 10pm regardless of if they have school or not the nxt day.
Posted by: Tajah Neubo | November 23, 2009 3:31 PM
Frankly, most of the 'artists' performed
poorly. It was more about shock value.
Which doesn't say much for the actual
music does it? Was there any music last night?
If the silly antics he pulled were his big
news from last night, again, doesn't say
much for his actual 'talent'.
Eminem, is he still in the business?
More bleeps than words. Rihana, glad
you're back on your feet, how about
a real outfit next time. Shakira, she had
such talent, where did it go? The whole
show was generally pretty bad.
It wasn't cool when old Madonna kissed
the on the cliff to nutty Brittany...and it isn't cool now when Adam kissed a guy
who looks like a girl. Though, the fake
sex act was more disgusting. It's a tv
show in prime time, not a Vegas lounge
act.

Note to Michele: You mean you get to decide what's shocking for everyone else in the country? Um, no. You get to decide what YOU watch. The rest of us will make the same decision for ourselves.
If you're shocked, turn the channel, if only temporarily. Or make a pit stop. But do not proclaim to be the arbitor of what anyone else may watch.
Posted by: bluzdude | November 23, 2009 3:46 PM
Adam was the best of the night by far. I somehow think all the flood of complaints and bad reviews come from people that never liked him in the first place . There is no way you worshiped him and after last night can't stand him. Really? No, not really. If you weren't offended at any of the other performances, there is no reason this one should be any different. He was amazing and I so much prefer a live voice than the lip synching going on. And I would much rather see someone grab his crotch than Janet jackson, and all the others grapping theirs. He is a genius that is laughing at all of you on his way to the bank. I bought 3 copies of his CD today.
Posted by: Wendy | November 23, 2009 3:47 PM
I wanted to add that Adam;s performance was not a display or talent, it was a display of violence and sex addiction and was demonic. True, I turned off Emimnem too for the horrible lyrics that I ddin't want my chidlren subjected too and Gaga is also creepy and discusting, but Adam proved last night, why he came in second to Kris- who is a person demonstrating appreciation for his win. Adam made a mockery of the awards show and us as viewers. His behavior was ridiculous and I'm appalled that the AMA's allowed it.
Posted by: Lorae | November 23, 2009 3:51 PM
Well I have to admit that his performance was GaGa.. I’ve seen artist do less than what he did and get kicked off the stage. I think he should have done something a little less Stupid than what he performed. We all know that he had it in him to perform and sing.. What will Simon Cowell say about his performance...
Posted by: KK | November 23, 2009 3:57 PM
Lady Gaga is on another planet then Adam and its a less talented one. If you didn't get it, oh well.... And too dispute his vocals is ridiculous the man is mad talented. Kiddie shouldn't have been up at 11:00 at night and it wasn't the only sexually charged performance of the night, so its the Parents fault.
Posted by: Dee | November 23, 2009 3:58 PM
Adam Lambert showed that all he has is a voice. He used it, abused it and as far as I'm concerned, he's busted! What an awful performance!
Posted by: Anonymous | November 23, 2009 4:00 PM
Michele, if you truly watched American Idol you would know how to spell Chris's name. It's KRIS. And don't say you were Adam's biggest fan...if you were, you would "get" him. Why's it ok for women to do it? I love Janet Jackson, and saw her crotch grab herslef and a male dancer more than once last night. Double standard? And, there was clearly a PG 14 label on for the show after each commercial break, so ENOUGH Abou the kiddies. Geeze, what would you do if any of them come home gay someday ?
Posted by: Linda | November 23, 2009 4:03 PM
sorry Wendy, I DID LIKE HIM, WATCHED HIM THE ENTIRE TIME ON IDOL AND THOUGHT HE WAS TALENTED
Last night he lost his talent and turned into God Knows what, but whatever he was trying to prove or do, I didnt like it, an Artist?
a Singer?
NOPE, More like a Perv thru the window!!!!
Posted by: Shasta | November 23, 2009 4:04 PM
If his performance was THAT bad, why the hell did you bother watching it til the end?? Jealousy is NOT sexy! GO ADAM!!!
Posted by: Marianne | November 23, 2009 4:07 PM
My personal opinion doesn't matter all that much, but for the record, that behavior is disgusting; not to mention disturbing. The 'what' is his business, but there 'where' and 'when' is in question. music awards ceremonies are supposed to be family viewing. If I had my child to watch that in any other venue, I'd be in trouble with CPS.
Posted by: Sunshine Daise | November 23, 2009 4:08 PM
Dee- West coast aired it at an earlier time; then you should remember that this is a holiday week and some kids don't have school this week, thus get to stay up later to watch something that SHOULD have had a rating!!! (of at least R for that)
Posted by: Sunshine Daise | November 23, 2009 4:15 PM
Why does Adam and why do some of you here think it's an accomplishment for a male to demonstrate S & M and other violent disrespectful sex addictive behavior? Yes, women have done some discusting things, but why is this a competition to make sure the men get theirs on tv too? Is this an accomplishment and why is it something to be proud of? I am not a huge fan of Adam's singing and am totally writing him off now, but as I mentioned before, if he is indeed a singer, then why not just "sing?" Why the need for a perverted circus? and why the insults calling us prude if we don't care to see that in our face? What is the accomplishment here of this perversion to you that like it? Do you feel something good and healthy for the world has been done or are you just glad that a man took a stand for vulgarity?
Posted by: Lorae | November 23, 2009 4:24 PM
UMMMM, no need to cuzz at me Mariann, I WAS a fan of Adams voice, in fact I voted for him over Kris the entire season, HOWEVER, AFTER HIS LEWD PERFORMANCE, (AND WHY WOULD I BE JEALOUS?) I regret my votes, and im very glad now he didnt win, which orginally I wanted him to win Idol.......NOBODY NEEDS 'IT' SHOVED IN THEIR FACES, IF THIS IS TALENT, Your Taste is way off the Nut needle
Posted by: Shasta | November 23, 2009 4:26 PM
Adam has been performing like that for years. Youtube his older performances. He was being himself. He always dances and sings like that. He's awesome and is doing his own thing... and everybody is talking about him... no such thing as bad publicity. Yay for him. Keep it up Adam.
Posted by: Tracey | November 23, 2009 4:29 PM
Sigh....what a disappointment. The glam pseudo-Cabaret update was quite a disappointment. If you just listened and didn't watch the choreography, the song was (gasp) BORING and not very musical. That's the truly shameful and shocking part.
Posted by: Liza | November 23, 2009 4:41 PM
I agree with Adam that there is a double standard, but two wrongs don't make it right.
Up until now I loved Adams performances, but this left me almost sad.
Do we need performers that rub their sexuality into our faces?
I defiantly don't and I do not care one bit what anyone does in their private life.
Sorry Adam, but you went over the line with your performance and I have a feeling your great future doesn't look too promising after last night.
Posted by: Kareen | November 23, 2009 4:50 PM
I loved Adam's performance and my CD is already ordered. It's entertainment for adults who should be able to enjoy a little grabbing and kissing - btw the kiss was hoootttt!
Posted by: Karin | November 23, 2009 5:00 PM
To everyone who adorned his performance and loved every minute of it, and even to those who thought it was amazing and a breakthrough, you should all be disgusted and appalled... I was never a fan of his screaming on American Idol, it was misplaced and over-used, but if his music and style was decent, I would tell him good job.. This however, is the complete opposite. His "performance" was disastrous, his vocals were just ok, and the lyrics were ok, but I am completely and utterly appalled by his performance last night.. It has nothing to do with me being able to accept two women kissing, and not two men, it has to do with what should be allowed on tv. How, as a nation, are we able to bleep almost every curse word in the book, but allow anyone to watch that trash? I'm so glad that his album crashed and burned because this shows that there is still a little good morals left in this nation.
Posted by: Jake | November 23, 2009 5:07 PM
Adams performance last night was disgusting. It is sad to see that our country has come to the point where they would allow this on television. Needless to say I hope that that there were not very many children watching the awards. I can see more and more why there is more respect and honor for the CMA rewards. You can watch it with your whole family and not be ashamed. the
Posted by: Sharon | November 23, 2009 5:09 PM
The whole show was overblown and weak. Spectacle for spectacle sake. This was a MUSIC awards show? God help our country! Where's the beef? What a waste of talent. Thanks a lot music/entertainment industry and Disney. At least the Disney Channel celebs that our kids can still admire in their naive youth presented didn't trash their images (yet).

Omg I thought adam was the BEST performer in the entire show he is sooo talented and I wasnt offended in the least and Im an older woman ( 57) I love his music wether they are ballads or songs where he ''screams'' thats just his style YOU GO ADAM I LOVE YA !! gOOD LUCK YOU ROCK!!
Posted by: Joanna | November 23, 2009 5:18 PM
First, I have to comment to Heart Broken who said he tries "to explain to his kids why the same sex wants to be the other." Gay men do not want to be women. Where did you get that idea? Same for gay women, so stop telling your kids that. If you think about it, it doesn't make sense anyway--two men want to be women so then they're women together?
Second, you people who are shocked are a bunch of hypocrites with double standards. It's amusing that straight performers "rub your face in it" all the time and when a gay performer does it you're shocked. That's your problem, not Adam's.
SKK: I'm pretty sure the commenter dropped the word "with" by accident and that it was supposed to say "be with the other," not "be the other."
Posted by: Martin Pal | November 23, 2009 5:29 PM
Can you say SHOCK VALUE hmmmm Howard Stern sound familar, sounds like PR to me.....just spell his name right, and the viewers will tune in just to see what's could possibly be next...
WOW
Posted by: Linda | November 23, 2009 5:34 PM
Paul.... Wow.... really? I'm much more disgusted with your comments than with anything Adam did.
I didn't watch the performance because I don't like Adam's voice for what he is trying to do with it. (He would be AMAZING on Broadway - he has a great musical theatre voice, but pop artist he is not!) While I respect Adam's right to make out with whomever he chooses, my concern is that he feels he can do it without the performance chops to back it up. Janet and Lady Gaga and all of the others listed have the talent and the history that lets them get away with a little more than a no-name. Sorry Adam... that may have been the end of your pop/rock career.. good luck on Broadway!
Posted by: Lizard | November 23, 2009 5:56 PM
You're so right Linda. This is all-copy-cat stuff to get attention from the masses whether good or bad. Unoriginal, wanting to be like Madonna and others. Why not just be himself? He must have been afraid he couldn't stand on talent alone. Gee- I wonder why?
He's definitly narrowing his purchasing crowd though.

Don't usually participate in these posts but just had to vent. Two big Adam Lambert fans in this family from two different generations and both extremely disappointed. I feel a major setback here in this performance that lacked the heart and musical virtuosity that drew me to Adam in the first place. If Adam lets his need to prove a point, that I am not even sure is worth proving, smother his true musical talent, what a shame and loss for so many.
Posted by: DW | November 23, 2009 6:09 PM
I was a huge fan of Adam. I voted for him night after night during American Idol.
After last night's performance, I am NO LONGER a fan of Adam Lambert. What a piece of trash.
Posted by: RICK | November 23, 2009 6:18 PM
In his attempt to be edgy, his delivery was poor. Too much going on for his voice to handle. He crossed the line on what is acceptable for this type of viewership. This was too much for all but a BDSM show.
Someone should have given this kid better advice before he pulled this one off. I am sick of him playing the gay card, too. So what?
Posted by: kate | November 23, 2009 6:27 PM
I was watching the AMA's with my 13 year old daughter. We were waiting anxiously for Adam to come on. We have every song that he performed on American Idol . We both are ok about his sexuality, because just like he says, let's not concentrate on the sexuality, let's focus on the singing. So, that's just what we did. When the performance was over, I hung my head and said "how disappointing." He needs to listen to his own advice. I purchased the CD today with hesitation. This might be the last if he continues this way. This performance wasn't appropriate for A.M.A. It could have been saved for the MTV awards. I still can't believe it.
Posted by: Vicky | November 23, 2009 6:32 PM
I was a big Adam fan and like others watched the show to see him. I am so disapointed because he has the talent and doesn't need the shock value. If the show taught us anything it is how people have wasted their talents ie, Whitney, Michael and even going back to Elvis. I hope Adam has someone who can try to keep him grounded because if this is how he is planning to use his "voice" in the future it is the biggest waste of all.

Lamber't's performance was disappointing, disgusting, and terrible. He has a great voice but you couldn't tell with all the screaming he did. Terrible performance!!!

I will buy Adam's cd, definitely! Well, guys, Adam got what he wanted...to shock all of you people. That was his intention, for sure! Hahaha...i wasnt shocked at all, so typical of Adam!l

I loved the performance because that is what it was, a performance. I saw the same sexuality in 80% of the rest of the performances. Adam was just doing what the other performers were suggesting.
As for children watching, the ‘Music Awards’ have never been nor will they ever be entertainment for children, they are purely for adult entertainment only. It is the parent’s responsibility to make sure your children do not watch adult shows. And the parents should probably listen to the lyrics of most of the music their kids listen to, the lyrics to 90% of the music is much more explicate than what I saw last night.
I have 3 children and I would NEVER let them watch ANY music award shows nor take them to the events until they are much older, music awards are NOT entertainment for children.
Adam, I loved your performance. I thought it was FABULOUS, keep entertaining me…

How disappointing...we are also huge Adam Lambert fans. Our entire family went to the American Idol concert mainly to see Adam.....never again...what a mistake he made. Beautiful voice..no class.

that's was offensive and the vocals were not there.... I like him before but now? i won't check anything from him anymore. It was a big turn off for me

Why does everyone care? People you are making yourselves sound ignorant and intolerant. Female performers do similar things all the time so much that it is barely noted. Why are you personally offended that you saw a man kiss a man? Where have you been living in the 30's?

I am a 54 year old woman who was a fan of Adam's up until last night. I thought he should have been the AI winner, but now I am glad he was not. If he would have "just" kissed a guy that would have been one thing, but he did much more than that. I feel bad for his parents, they had to be mortified.

I am from S. Francisco and live there -- I can tell you I am not some prude from the Bible Belt. I tried to watch the show -- and I was utterly DISGUSTED by 50% of it. Almost naked women crawling around on all-fours, Rhianna, who one would think would maybe have a message for young girls did a creepy torture-chamber number (that was unlistenable), Lady Gaga shouldn't have bveen anywhere outside of a club for 21-and overs...Fergie & Black-Eyes Peas gave a great performance - but I never saw so many spread legs waving and pelvic thrusts into the camera or men's faces or crotches by nearly naked women -- it was like a whore-fest, like the red-light district of Amsterdam run amok on PRIME TIME SUNDAY NIGHT TV. Wonderful example for 11-year old girls...or even 16 year olds. I called ABC and complained and also sent an email. With few exceptions that show was shocking. I go to clubs and concerts all the time -- Lady Gaga in a club? Fine. Adam Lamber in a club? Fine. NOT on tv on primetime SUNDAY NIGHT! Does anyone care what message this is sending to little girls? To booys, too? that girls are just objects, whores, sluts, wind-up toys? Our famous choreographer may be very good -- but what ON EARTH was she thinking. The entire idea was to shock -- there were a few exceptions. Even Keith Urban looked embarrassed to be there.

I have to disagree with most people and say that Adam is the most refreshing thing that has happened in a long time. He is obviously talented, if not the most talented, performer that there has ever been. The fact that he pushes the envelop and expresses who he is and whom and what he loves is amazing. The world is changing, and people need to accept that. He may not be for everyone, but labeling him as "disgusting" is in my opinion unrealistic. People are sexual beings and that's what the performance was, a depiction of sexuality not necessarily homosexuality. Welcome to 2009 almost 2010, sex is everywhere, and gay is becoming in, embrace it or don't, but either appreciate it as you do your own heterosexual sexuality, i do.

Adam was being true to himself in the performance, as he has repeatedly said is his goal in interviews. But what about his fans? I'm not sure he thought of the majority of his fans when he put together this performance. As someone mentioned, he was doing it for himself, catering to his own agenda. It's just a selfish, seemingly ungrateful way for someone who got to the top with the help/love/support of so many others to behave. I am still a fan, I still love his vocals and think he's sexy, but I am kind of embarrassed that I support someone who would show such obvious disregard for his audience.
I also want to second the statement that even if I ignore what I saw on stage, what I heard was terrible. He was paying too much attention to his movements to give us the powerful kind of vocal performances he got famous for on "Idol". Except the last note. That was pretty dead-on.

Adam Lambert is BETTER than Lady Gaga. Just watch any of his AI performances. His voice is way better and has more stage presence.
Problem is, he didn't show any of that last night. Everything that I loved about him - his uniqueness, amazing voice, how he hints sex all the time but isn't full out, was gone. He was absolutely repulsive last night. Singing was horrible. And I'm pretty sure he lost a good chunk of fans and any chance of people taking him seriously from now on.

I love Adam but thought this performance was not good. He is so talented with an amazing voice & has so much stage presence normally! Sadly, this performance did not reflect the artist that I've come to love at all! Not sure why he picked this moment to declare his extreme artistic freedom when he is trying to begin his career. There's a time and a place for everything. I still love him though, love his voice & I don't believe (at this time) this is what he is about all the time. It was one performance for one song. But alot of people won't see it that way. His CD rocks, I wish he didn't scare so many people away. Adam, stick w/your amazing voice and forget the raunch!

Adam....I was a fan. But not after your "performance" at the Music Awards. What was the network thinking.....your voice is what we wanted to hear...that's what got you where you are....not the VILE theatrics. I was appalled and disgusted. We expect filthy lyrics from rappers(unless Christian rap..oh, what a concept....lyrics to a beat). But not the distasteful display you put on. I'm not a fan anymore!

See him kissing Adam back, yup. Heard song "Master Plan"? awesome courage. Now I understand everything about Adam's performance. Brillant singer whose CD is magnificant. He wins- thanks for photo and advertising.i

I was blown away, and not in a good way. I love Adam, I voted for him pretty much all along on American Idol. I was excited for him to perform because I new it would be great, however I didn't expect him to do all the explicit things he did. There's just no reason for it. Ok, ok......yeah, Britney and Madonna and everyone else that feels like they have to show off their sexuality for whatever reason is considered to be part of a routine is just weird. Really. I mean we all no he's gay and he kisses guy's, who cares. How does it make his performance better though? To me it just makes it look trashy. Why go there? I'm sure there's a huge amount of people that thought this was an amazing performance, but I thought it just looked like a desperate attempt to come up and show us all what he was all about in the bedroom, and really I don't care what he does in his bedroom and anywhere else for that matter. I just liked his voice and now I'm not even too sure about that anymore. Sorry Adam, I believe you just screwed yourself.

CHANCE YOU ARE A GREAT WRITER AND YOU SAID IT ALL....ADAM DID GREAT I THOUGHT ALSO....TELL THEM HOW IT IS, I LOVED IT...

Thank god we are thinning some of his "fans". They were getting to needy and demanding. Adam is Adam, get used to it!
A fan forever

Adam is great! His voice is simply delicious even though he didn't sound at his best at the AMA. people who had kids watching could have simply turned the TV off. Stop complaining, please. Other people pulled some of the same and nobody made this big deal. Do you remember madonna and brittany's kiss on the very same show? Go Adam! You are great and we love you.
SKK: That Madonna/Britney kiss was on the VMAs on MTV, as has already been mentioned here.

I don't care what you say about Adam Lambert. He is a real preformer. Most of our "preformers" these days are lesbians. Such as Britany Spears. She, Madona, and Christina Agulara kissed another of the same sex on camera just like Adam. And no one seemed to have a problem with that! And they can't even sing! Adam has a voice that is 10 times better than all of them put together.
Dude, you even said it yourself. About what Shakira did. They all went and made so many more hits. And you know what, Adam is going to make it even farthur than those put together. Adam has talent and that is that. No doubt about it. You all know that you love him. :)And, Eminem and other rappers have 100 times worse lyrics than Adam. Thanks.

I was a fan but now I have only 3 words to share: KRIS ALLEN WON!
Posted by: LambertLoser | November 24, 2009 11:24 PM
Mr. Lambert has refused to apologize for clearly obscene behavior. The simulated oral sex, and the groping of private areas were totally obscene and out of line for national television. Mr. Lambert finds nothing wrong with this behavior and I am shocked that anyone would put him on their television show again. Gay or straight Mr. Lambert, you were disgraceful and spinned all the young fans who voted for you. You are perverted in every sense of the word.
