'Amazing Race': Don't forget ... it's a *race*

Oh, Marcy, Marcy, Marcy. I admire your resolve to take in your surroundings in all the locales you were visiting on The Amazing Race. But it's too bad you forgot about that last word, "race."

Seriously, sometimes last night it felt like Marcy and Ron had a loose itinerary to stick to ("Oooh, after this, we have to rearrange some letters to spell out a local word. Then, maybe we should check out Reunification Palace. What do you think about that? Perhaps a spot of dinner first?"). So I wasn't that surprised when they got eliminated.

But also showing some less than stellar racing skills were Lance and Keri. Ugh. How many mistakes did they make last night? First, Keri thought they were still in Ho Chi Minh City even though they had moved overnight during the pit stop. Then, once they were given their clue at the water-dragon challenge, they totally failed to understand that the clue was inside the bullet they were given upon completing the challenge. They ran around yelling at people for clues (thanks for playing the Ugly American role so well, guys!) and then finally put it together. Then, at the end of the giant-concrete-animal-and-balloon challenge, Keri couldn't figure out who to give the balloons to, and Lance rampaged around for a while until they finally put it all together. It was difficult to watch. (That's not even taking the crazy-smeared eye makeup into account!) I'm looking forward to them getting kicked out.

The rest of the episode still seemed a little slow somehow -- maybe because there are just still so many teams?

What did you think?

I agree it was a slow episode. For one thing, taking apart old VCRs isn't a highly visual activity. Compare that with herding ducks or Wheels of Cheese. Doesn't measure up.

Lance (the Lion) is pretty irritating, I agree.

The Globetrotter guys also seemed to go incredibly slow and take their time during the concrete animal challenge. Though, I suppose it could have been the editing.

Lance and Keri caused me to mute the TV several times. I hope they are eliminated next! Didn't you love how the host ribbed them at the end, about that stupid lion remark?! Loved that.

Hey, Bucky! I didn't know you were a fanof TAR. I hope you are enjoying the food segments.

A more exciting challenge would have been for the contestants to try to maneuver motorbikes through rush hour traffic.

bra1nchild, I am. TAR, Survivor and American Idol. And an occasional one-off like I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here.

Reality Check is the reason I found the Sun blogs in the first place.

SKK: Yay!

Wow, at least I'm not the only one that thinks that Lance & Keri are annoying. Thanks for playing the dumb jock role Lance. You make the globetrotter guys look like rocket scientists.

I can understand the confusion about what city they are in. Remember Jet Lag, different time zones and being in a foreign country make be a new experience for most of the folks.

Highlights for next week, looks like somebody has lost their passport.

SKK: Well, true, Capt. Jack, but when a team you are already not fond of makes a mistake like that, it's easy to poke fun.

Is it just me, or is there more nastiness between some of the couples this season than ever before? Or, maybe, more couples being nasty?

I like the Globetrotters.

The thing I didn't get is how come Lance wasn't penalized for tearing apart and smashing the VCRs when every other team had to use the power tools provided and separate them into pile for recycling. Did I misunderstand the challenge, or did he just figure out that there was a quicker way that eveyone else missed? In any event, they are the most annoying team so far for sure.

SKK: I dunno, maybe he was throwing the HulkSmashed pieces into the appropriate piles, but it got edited out? I was (well, am) ready for them to go buh-bye.

NB: DO NOT GET LANCE TO REPRESENT YOU - EVER!!!!!!!!
