'So You Think You Can Dance': And the Top 4 are ...

Host Cat Deeley is looking a little Dynasty in a glittery green, shoulder-pad-clad dress on tonight's So You Think You Can Dance. The show begins with a surreal routine to "Send in the Clowns" choreographed by Tyce DiOrio. Hope you aren't scared of clowns!!

Results come quickly: Jeanine is safe and competing in the finale. Melissa and Kayla have to perform solos and wait it out.

Tonight's bonus is that we get to see the Emmy-nominated dances from last season, the first of which is a Tyce routine by Jessica and Will that is low-key, powerful and gorgeous. And it's nice to see both of them again.

Then more results, this time the guys: Brandon is through to the finale, and the other two look genuinely happy for him.

After that news, it's time for another reprisal, Mia Michaels' Emmy-winning routine to "Mercy" and danced by Katee and Twitch. This is the one where they dance around a door -- it's awesome. I've been listening to the Duffy album lately, and every time that song comes on, I think of that performance.

Then Joshua and Chelsie reprise Dmitry Chaplin's dance from last season. I miss them, too. Is it just me, or are these reprisals making anyone else miss the 2008 season.

Speaking of reprisals, after that, Melissa has to do her solo from last night over again even though it doesn't make a difference in the results. I still don't really understand why they make them do that. Then Ade repeats his.

The guest dancers of the evening are the Jabbawockeez, who won the first season of America's Next Dance Crew. They are so good that I want the performance to keep on going.

Chelsie is back again, this time with Mark, for their dance to "Bleeding Love" by Napoleon and Tabitha.

Kayla and Evan dance their solos again, too, followed by a performance by Sean Paul.

Then, finally, the rest of the results: Kayla is in the finale, and Melissa is out, and on the guy's side, Evan is in the finale, and Ade is out. I think the second result is somewhat surprising, but I am not that shocked by Melissa's ouster. Everyone in the Top 6 is pretty good, though, and as Nigel pointed out, once you make it to the Top 20, good things happen.

So that leaves a Top 4, in case you have lost track, of Jeanine, Brandon, Kayla and Evan. What do you think about that?

Booo! [Expletive] Kayla! TEAM NAUGHTY BALLERINA!!!!

I can't believe that Evan stayed! He is good, but Ade is way better than him! I am so shocked. I thought Evan should've been gone 2 weeks ago. I am fine with Melissa going, she is amazing but it was here time

EVAN!!!! for real omg that is nonsense sorry he is good at what he does but finale material i dont think so... to me the least improved dancer of the season... oh well hopefully he steps it up and makes it worth while

As much as I liked Evan's personality, I really thought he was out of his depth. I was shocked that it was Ade who went home. He was a really strong dancer, though the point about his lack of evolution is true.

As far as last season goes - it was my first time watching the show and I immediately felt an affinity to several of the dancers and several of the original couples. That was lacking this entire season. The personalities and chemistry of last season were palpable. This season they were almost nonexistent. However, I totally would have chosen some different dances for the Emmy nomination: The Garden and No Air.

Evan deserves where he is. I've loved him from day one. It was sad to see Ade go, but Brandon and Evan is certainly the best guys.

I just wish the judges would stop hating on Evan.

I think that Ade should have been present in the top 4. If you were to compare the skills of Ade and Evan it can be rationally decided that Ade is better. Ade has been able to adjust though not perfectly to other dance styles outside of his own much better that Evan.. who has repeatedly disappointed many with his dances. Evan is a nice person but a the next best dancer ...no i don't think so. America needs to awakwen from this childlike favoritism and vote like adults based on how well these dancers DANCE... not how nice they are or how cute they are but HOW WELL THEY DANCE.. Evan should have clearly left the competition even before JASON...look at it this way even the fact that every girl that Evan danced with was sent home ....doesn't that say alot. It is time for America to wake up and act right...

I know Kayla is really great, after all, the judges have reminded us over and over again week after weeek. But for me, something is missing. I was hoping for Janine and Janette as the top2 girls. When Janette was voted off last week (my favorite girl) I hoped that Melissa would somehow get by Kayla. Oh well. As for the guys, I really felt Brandon needed to be in the finale. As for Evan and Ade, I love them both. Ade may be the more powerful dancer, but Evan is so full of personality and sportsmanship. Despite the fact that judges often did not give him the praise he earned, despite things like last night when Melissa couldn't muster up any enthusiasm for drawing his name and expressed her lack of confidence in him-- he kept smiling and working hard.

Good luck to the top 4!

I thought that routine "Send in the Clowns" was Great, beautiful choreography, costumes and performance. Do you know who the singer was, what a voice?
Boone

SKK: It was Judy Garland.

Last season just seemed so much more memorable to me. I do miss it.

COMPLETELY shocked that Ade was ousted. I thought he should win!!

Definitely think the voters made the right choice! Go Jeanine!

As for Evan: Sure, Ade is "stronger," but part of dancing is how you relate to the audience. I think Ade is awesome, but I never found myself really rooting for him. I enjoy watching Evan perform more. America's "favorite" doesn't mean "best."

Scott: That version of "Send in the Clowns" was sung by Judy Collins.

I was terribly sad to see the hot ballerina go. She was someone that I just couldn't pry my eyes away from. That said, her solos all had a certain sameness to them and were not particularly eye-popping.

I was surprised that Evan stayed. I chalk it up to his genuine likeability. He'd have been a superstar in another era.

This comment really belongs in the last SYTYCD post, but who knew Cat Deeley was such a good mimic? She was killing me on Wednesday with her spot-on impersonations of the dancers giving their call numbers.

I was hoping Evan would dance with Janette--she was the girl who was his size. There is a huge bias against short dancers; they're always told to "dance taller". How about dancing shorter? Melissa should have ditched the heels for the quickstep. She wasn't that good anyway and held Evan back. I'm glad Evan is in.

Evan should have been gone long ago and Melissa should have been gone last week despite the terrific dance she did on breast cancer. Janette is a far superior dancer than Melissa. She had the most growth going from a simple salsa dancer to excel in every routine she did. Ade is a much more powerful dancer than even, who couldn't even excel in the jazz dance routine he was given this week. In the end I hope Brandon wins, but if he doesn't I'd be fine with Jeanine or Kayla, both of whom are superb.

Kayla has been solid all the way through and I hope she wins. If she doesn't I'd be just as happy if Jeanine or Brandon wins it...but I'll be pulling for Kayla.

I am pleased with the top four. Kayla has a Baltimore connection, and she does amazing things considering she has had a hip replacement. That said, I think that Jeanine or Brandon will win next week. Brandon has really been stepping it up, but Jeanine has been consistently good from the beginning and emotes more. And didn't Mia Michaels give Brandon a hard time at the beginning of the season? It would be sweet if he won in spite of all that.

SKK: Are you sure you aren't thinking of Caitlin, who graduated from the BSA and had a hip replacement? If Kayla has a Baltimore connection, I didn't know that! Do tell! .... I totally agree that it would be great if Brandon won because Mia and Lil C were bizarrely hard on him during Vegas week. It was like they were in an alternate universe.

The opening number was my favorite all year, did you see the PORTRAIT of the dancers up on the screen while it was being performed? I would love to have a print of that, even better if signed by the dancers. Does anyone know how to get in contact with the show, I would push far to track down a print of that portrait!

Oh rats--it's been a long week. Kayla, Caitlin--who can tell them apart? Sorry, SKK!

I agree with you about Brandon--there was something very odd going on there in Vegas.

When Kayla pulls out that beast she has deep inside her, I can't take my eyes off her. Something about Jeannine just appeals to us all but Brandon is a step up from all the rest. He reminds me of Joshua who won last season.

Brandon's solo was devastatingly powerful. I've never seen anything quite like it, especially the last two seconds when he freezes like a true warrior or a god even.

I am bored with all of the contemporary dancers...I hope Evan wins because I love that old fashioned BROADWAY genre which is reminiscent of Donald O'Connor, Gene Kelly, and Fred Astaire....Evan was UNIQUE and stood out from the other dancers....I interpret UNIQUE to be AMERICA'S FAVORITE DANCER But..I think Jeanine will win and Evan will be runner-up....

I have to agree about missing last season's dancers, but even more, the choreography. With only a couple of exceptions - the odd crash test dummies piece, the breast cancer piece and the tango - this season's routines just didn't have that wow factor. Brandon's last solo stands out more than many of the numbers, and that's not good.

"Bleeding Love," "Mercy," "The Garden," and the phenomenal pas de deux that Will and Katee did from last season are still strong in my memory.

Overall, I have to say that I do think this season's dancers may be more technically proficient than last season's cast. These are STRONG dancers, every one of them, with amazing technical skills and stunning lines (especially Kayla and Brandon). But...they don't seem to have the audience connection that last season's group did.

I really think that Melissa and Ade's breast cancer piece saved them because it was the first time that raw emotional power was on stage all season - killer choreography, too, but emotion. Think about the emotion in the dances from last season, then try to remember something similar from this season...it's just not there.

As to the results...Evan is not as strong a dancer as Ade, but he has charm. And in a season where few dancers (maybe Janette and Jeanine) displayed a lot of personality, that got him through.

I am looking forward to the finale, though, and I'm just thrilled overall to see such talented dancers pulling in an audience across the country. They, and the entire art form, deserve it, and I hope that at least some of those watching may be moved to check out dance in their home towns...they may find they like it!

Well im happy the winner is even or jenniene but(always a but) jason would be better and janet

I want Jeane to win but if it was Jannet Jeane and brandon and Even I would so want Jannet to win. America got it so wrong on that part and I 100% agree with nigeal Jennat was the beat and should have won

After watching the last night of the competition, I felt that Nigel Lythgoe made it very clear that he wanted Jeanine to win. I think he intentionally swayed the public. After Jeanine and Kayla did their duo, he had nothing but praise for Jeanine and did not say one word about Kayla and I felt she out danced Janeane on that routine. In fact, all he did was praise Janeane all evening. Also, his comment to Kayla about her coming out in the last night of competition was definitely a ploy to sway the voters. He also did nothing but put Evan down. What was that all about? Did he get a kick out of hurting Evan's feelings or was that his way of helping to knock Evan out of winning? I felt he was intentionally sabotaging the other dancers for Jeanine. Very bad form for a judge and one of the producers. It left me wondering about his credibility.
