'The Amazing Race': And the winner is ...
Spoiler alert: If you don't want to know who won on tonight's finale of The Amazing Race, stop reading.
OK.
Was it just me, or was tonight's finale pretty anti-climactic? The three final teams -- mother and son Margie and Luke, brother and sister Victor and Tammy and friends and former cheerleaders Cara and Jaime -- all caught the same flight from Beijing to Maui, so no one had a time advantage of any kind.
Once in Maui, the teams had to season a 140-pound pig and carry it on a pole 200 yards, then prepare it for roasting for a luau. This proved to be more difficult than it sounds, with Tammy and Cara in particular having trouble, dropping the pig repeatedly and getting behind.
The Road Block was the usual that we see in the finale, requiring the person to remember minutiae from the race and what leg things happened on. Margie and Luke got there first, and Luke, who had been prepping for this challenge since the beginning, jumped right in. He had to sort through hundreds of surfboards with icons on them and find the 11 with icons relevant to the different legs in the race. He got a huge head start, and for a while it looked like he and Margie might be out of there before another team even arrived.
Jaime and Cara and Tammy and Victor finished up and headed to the Road Block, but J&C ended up with a bad cab driver -- first he took them to the wrong surfboard fence, then his contact at base refused to help them figure out what street they were looking for (though she rightfully pointed out she was not their "personal concierge"), then he almost ran out of gas.
At the Road Block, Victor made quick work of the challenge, while Luke got stymied at the end. He had everything but 10 and 11 right, but he chose a random board for 10 and then kept picking the wrong things for 11. At one point, he had the icon for 10 in the 11 spot and then tossed it off to the side when he found out he was still wrong. Victor managed to finish ahead of Luke, and he and Tammy read their clue, which pointed them to their final destination -- the finish line.
Jaime and Cara, meanwhile, had finally arrived, and after a lot of kvetching at the beginning about how stupid all the icons were, Jaime caught up and had all but the first one. Finally, she and Luke decided to work together. He pointed out the one she was missing, and she helped him, too.
But it was too late -- Tammy and Victor were already at the finish and learning they had won the $1 million prize. Luke beat himself up a lot, but Margie told him repeatedly how proud she was of him. So then it was over.
It seemed like the pacing was really odd, though. Even with the problems carrying the pig and solving the riddles at the Road Block, the finale wasn't very dramatic, and it kind of came to a crashing halt out of nowhere. Maybe it was because I wasn't very invested in any of the teams that were left, but maybe not. It wasn't the most satisfying TAR finale ever.
But at least Jaime didn't win.

It was anti-climactic, usually there's more racing and a foot race through some city. One season, a team was still in Alaska while the others raced around San Francisco. I got more invested when they changed to bikinis in the cab. Margie did moms everywhere proud shouldering the 140 lb pig without a stumble. Nice Mother's Day moment when Luke said he was glad Margie was his mom.

I thought the lug-the-hog challenge was pretty dopey. And it was clear that Luke was going to blow the surfboard roadblock as soon as they showed Margie bragging about how he had prepared and was ready for it.
Do you think there is a cause and effect relationship between being demeaning to taxi drivers and taxi drivers getting lost and/or needing to stop for gas?

I really wanted the deaf guy && his mom to win... :(

Usually on the last episode they send them all over the city that they are in trying like heck to get them lost. I can't believe they only made them do the 2 stops for the 2 tasks and that was it. I personally would have liked it if Luke & Margie had one, I think it would have made a better story, but oh well.

We thought the finale was pretty lame, too. My husband thinks that they used to do a 2-hour finale show, which allowed for more challenges.
Overall, it really was unsatisfying. Maybe it was because we never warmed up to Victor and Tammy, but it did seem that it all came to a crashing halt out of nowhere.

I agree that the end seemed to pop up out of no-where and it wasn't that dramatic. They didn't even try to build the hype with editing that made us think the last 2 teams are racing neck and neck (even though they are far apart). Do they normally not have a Detour on the last leg?

The final two legs were in Beijing, giving Tammy and Victor an unfair advantage due to their knowledge of the language. But the surfboard fence gave the other teams an opportunity to undo the China advantage, and they both blew it.

Yes, I thought the fianl was 2 hours too.
Maybe there is more than meets the eye about jamie and Cara's cab driver problems.
Can't for next time.

CAN YOU IMAGINE........Could you imagine of of your children in this race? maybe seeing pictures of your child jumping off of the top of the refridgerator into arms of her father, with his very special hat he recieved achieving goals in the US ARMY SPECIAL FORCES ? All the while pretending she is doing that same thing her daddy does out of an army helicopter? Can you imagine seeing them fly in a helicopter with a very special group of people that had the guts to try out and MAKE IT for The Amazing Race? can u imagine watching them do an 800 ft jump on a rubber band, sitting on the edge of your chair, not breathing for a moment? seeing them so stressed with lack of sleep or food at times and being so "focused" that they just pushed themselves beyond places they have ever been before physically or mentally? CAN YOU IMAGINE? YOUR CHILD? Seeing people say such unkind things about them in blogs all over the world? People that have never even talked to her and judging her so harshly? Well I can imagine and I know the stress of watching them for weeks not knowing the next show or if they will get booted off? While your child and there siblings sit together on a couch and watch together full of excitement! I feel that if you or your neighbor or your editor of a newspaper knew any of these people there would be alittle more credit for the goals that all of these people have achieved!! Also a lot of less harsh and ulgy words. while everyone has an opinion could you have done this race? 50 lbs of Cheese , freezing weather, lack of sleep, not being able to communicate in many countries or maybe being deaf? how about some credit people, after all it is real, its not actors , why dont you do some digging into the good things these teams have done, basket ball volleyball, being married and staying married in this time we are in, having a hearing issue and a mom that took the time to sign language? can you communicate with deaf people to make their lives better? I cant.how about being such a great friend you put law school off for a year and a WEDDING to be with your best friend! Lets talk about editing tv shows because drama sells and motivates. how about Jaime, you "distest her shes so ignorant" ,or an editor saying "but at least jaime didnt win"!!!When did this editor talk to Jaime? Was it while she lived in Baltimore and Mike Smith was playing for the Ravins?Do you personally know them or what it took to be a cheerleader for six years with the Miami dolphins? Did you do any research as to what Jaime has accomplished all the USO tours for the troups in sometimes not safe places?During a War at that being a positive role model for thousands of children looking up to them! Or how about the time jaime stayed up all night signing autographed photos for her little sisters middle school and telling them to "say no to drugs"I hope you all are very proud of all your children and say positive things to them, and tell them when they are 2 yrs old if they work hard they can be like their daddy and jump out of airplaines,or go to college and be a police officer, a cheer leader, ride in helicoptors, jump 800 feet on a big rubberband, travel all over the world, and do anything their hearts desire! i hope your children have the gift to not care what people say about them as Jaime has! it was a very great present on mothers day of all days to see Jaime be the first all female team to take second place on The Amazing Race on CBS!!! I am a very proud mother of hers!!! sincerely, Michele Edmondson

Congrats Jamie and Cara you did an awesome job! Im so glad you dont care how the editing has cut and pasted so much to have better rateings. Shoot every show has to have someone to keep the people clicking them back on every week!! So many people are so proud of you girls and know the real you! You are both very successfull and you did it with hard work, nothing was handed to you! Im so glad Jamie that you are such a loving, caring, giving, loyal, and honest person. My daughter has looked up to you for years watcing you on tv etc. She now cheers because of you and that is so great because she has social anxitiy disorder, and keeps going because she knows how hard you worked to get where you are today! Now if she can get one more of your qualities and that is "not to care what people are saying about you whenthey dont know you" Your Parents are so so proud of you!!Blessing to you and Cara and to all of the people who not only put on a great race but made the show exciting and enjoyable to watch!
We all need to remember "thou shall not pass judgement" its no our place!

The language advantage in China was unfair, not to mention that two lawyers will not have a problem making a million dollars in a few years. The game should be for people who do not have that advantage,it should be for people who can only dream of getting that kind of money

Jaime's mom needs to understand that it doesn't matter what her daughter has done in the past -- it was all quickly undone by her poor behavior almost everywhere she went. She was openly hostile to other cultures/peoples. (Hint: Cab drivers are people, too.) Why'd she even enter the race if she didn't want to run into language issues? She got what she gave, and I also am glad she didn't win.

What are you guys talking about?? This was the best season of all!! I'm glad that Victor and Tammy won, they deserve it!!! Why is there a problem when they can speak Chinese and one of the routes happens to be in China? What about the other season, when there were some Spanish speaker contestants and they were in South America, nobody seems to point that out!

I thought Maui was a great spot to end the Amazing Race!
I was at the edge of my seat as Luke worked on the surfboard roadblock at the end... I was so sure he was going to finish first...
But then he got stuck at the end... I was SO disappointed!
That being said, this was one of the few seasons where I liked all three of the final teams just about equally...(yes, I was rooting for Luke and Margie, but the other 2 teams were a close second choice for me).
