'American Idol' results: Top 4 revealed
Ryan Seacrest introduces tonight's American Idol results show with the news that more than 47 million votes were cast last night. So he has the results! Of course, we won't learn them for a while.
Simon Cowell says after watching last night's show back, he thought everyone did a really good job and says that was the best Top 5 show ever.
For the group sing, the contestants take on "It Don't Mean a Thing" and "I Got Rhythm."
Then we get a video clip of Danny and Allison's birthday celebration, which started out as a cake-baking session and ended in a food fight. Ryan gives Danny, who is said to be the food-fight culprit, a maid-service bill for $6,000. They didn't clean up after themselves? Nice.
Anyway, results: Matt Giraud is sent to the right side of the stage. Danny Gokey is sent to the left side. Allison Iraheta goes to the left, Kris Allen to the right. Adam Lambert is asked to choose which group he thinks he belongs with. He clearly hasn't watched all the previous seasons -- people have refused to choose! He goes over with Allison and Danny.
Sorry, Adam! Allison and Danny are safe, and the bottom three are Adam, Kris and Matt. So it's Matt going home, right? Of course we have to wait.
First guest performance of the night is Natalie Cole with "Something's Gotta Give." Then Taylor Hicks sings a song off his new album. OK. Results, please??
Ask and ye shall receive: Kris Allen is safe. Whew.
Guest performer No. 3 is Jamie Foxx, with "Blame It." Is it just me, or does the audience totally fail to sing the lyrics back to him when he points the mic at them?
The real results, finally: Adam is safe, and Matt is out. That was pretty much a duh moment after last night, don't you think?

Comments
I agree that Matt seemed like the most likely one to go. However, I was surprised that they named the bottom 3 rather than the bottom 2 at this stage of the competition- perhaps they wanted to respond to the itunes revelation about the popularity of Adam and Kris's songs?

Very surprising to see Adam in the bottom 3. But I don't think it was very surprising to see him not eliminated. How do we choose now between these 4 singers? They are all amazing.

I was VERY surprised to see Adam in the bottom three and then even MORE surprised to see him in the bottom two. I think he's very talented and the best singer this year. I also know that he rubs some people the wrong way, but for him to currently be in 4th place really REALLY surprises me.

ADAM SHOULD NOT BE IN THE BOTTOM 3, LET ALONE THE BOTTOM 2!!!!! WHAT KIND OF CRAP IS THAT??? SERIOUSLY!!

It's pretty pathetic when Jamie Foxx is put out there as a "singer." You could see it was all Simon could do to endure Jamie's performance. That's what I love about Simon. He has no tolerance for shallow pop garbage.
SKK: The man behind Il Divo, has no tolerance for shallow pop garbage? Just sayin' ...

Ok, I have to make this quick…it’s been 13 minutes…Adam’s 15 minutes are about up. Ha Ha Ha Ha. I could just hear him thinking, “Yeah, me and Danny, we’re golden; I’ll go stand with him.”
Welcome to backlash time on American Idol. And it could get worse for Adam…if Matt’s fans stay in the game and start voting for Kris, who has been the decided underdog among the three remaining guys.
And by the way, am I the only one who thought Danny’s pawing of Allison during the food fight was semi-perverted?

So my final four are still intact. I like Matt alot but felt like his performance was the weakest Tuesday. I was pretty pumped to see Adam in the bottom two. He's not looking so invincible is he!

Told ya Simon was in Bizarro World the other night. Adam is too pretentious to last much longer, because as much as certain fans absolutely love him, all others despise his style. He'll have to seriously tone it down if he wants to take the prize from Danny.

I hate to point this out to all those readers out there who are still under the impression that wrestling isn't fake and that Elvis is still alive and in search of that perfect slice of banana cream pie, but no way was Adam anywhere near the bottom 2 -- that was purely a classic case of fabricating drama.
Marriage proposals and the delivering of babies were put on hold once they inserted Adam into the bottom 3, and once it came down to just him and Matt, Obama informed his staff to hold all calls.
Anyway, shame on anyone who believes that last night was anything but a gigantic contrivance -- but in my opinion that is American Idol's greatest charm. Think of it as reality light.

Thanks for ur page...my idiot boyfriend ahutoff my american idol tvo last night so when I came home from work all pumped to watch it all I had was 30 secs! Ur article gave me the play by play w/out spoiling the results...now I don't feel so bad that I missed it! Thanks! BTW, ito the other postings, I do think Adams amazingly talented, creatively bold and the most confident and genuinely respects the judges comments of all the contestants....BUT, I think his fortay will be broadway musicals and acting in film....I feel he's much too theatrical for consistant pop top charters. And I absolutely HATE when he sticks out his tongue and "blats" like a trumpet certain notes. The weeks when he toned it down (both his looks and his blatting) and sang ballots I honestly thought well, maybe I'm wrong, but he always goes back to the "Rocky Horror Picture Show" performances and sticks a blat or too in there and I fast-fwd thru it! Chris, Allison & Danny will all have brilliant recording careers as pop artists...Adam will win a Tony or maybe an Oscar like Jen Hudson...wait and see. I think we got it right this week, America! Also, Was any one else as glad to see Anoop go as I was? That was LONG overdue! Just for the fact that he even attempted "Beat It" it was over for me!

Sorry to see Matt go, but I think they could have kept the "save" for someone else.

I think Adam should take it all the way he has an extremely strong voice and the show is here to keep us thinking and want to watch it week after week. The idol knows what's up.. Adam will be the next American Idol mark my words

Yeah yeah, Matt sucked. We already have one Justin Timberlake, thanks. But have to wonder what pop universe Ms. Jen Struk is living in? "Too theatrical for consistant (sic) pop top charters"? Have you ever heard of Elton John? David Bowie? Freddie Mercury? No one is guaranteed a career but if he plays his cards right, there's no denying he has the chops.
Posted by: Mac diPietro | April 30, 2009 6:35 PM
Wow. You will get no argument from me that Adam has the chops. But he is no Elton John, David Bowie or Freddie Murcury. No way. Not even close. Sorry.

Adam could replace the Elvis impersonator I saw in Vegas last week. Remember Kris is from your roots. Your great grandfather's name is imprinted on a sidewalk at his University in that Ark. town. Allison is neat too. It's all fun. Grandma Peggy

American Idol is a singing contest, not a theatrical production casting call. Allison is THE voice of an American Idol. Following this prescription, Carly Smithson should have won last year. This contest should be adjudicated by professionals rather than 10-year-old girls. Ask any vocal coach and they'll tell you Allison is amazing and deserves to be American Idol 2009 winner!

I agree...even though Adam is a good singer, he's much too theatrical to win...

OMG HOW CAN ADAM BE IN THE BOTTOM 3 OR EVEN 2 HE SOULDN'T BE IN AMERICAN IDOL COZ HE DESERVES MORE AND HE IS IN BOTTOM 3 GOD PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ AMERICA VOTE 4 HIM COME ON HE IS TALLENTED ISN'T HE AND HE LOOKS GOOD AM OBSESSED WITH HIM AND I LOVEEEEEE HIM VERY MUCH

Adam is superior to anyone else on the show I cant help but wonder what is going on in the American public some jealososy perhaps
Posted by: Violet Robinson | May 1, 2009 10:26 AM
I didn't say Adam WAS any of those people. I said theatricality is not a barrier to a long pop career. What Adam is capable of outside the realm of AI we'll have to wait and see. Before Bowie was Bowie he won some European singing contest doing a Jacques Brel song. I seriously doubt anyone who witnessed that performance could have foreseen what lay ahead of him.

Buh-bye Adam - my ears bleed when you sing, I hope Danny wins this competition. I think I would like Adam more if he wasn't so over-the-top all the time. My fav performances of his were the ones that were toned down a bit. I do agree that this group is the most talented of all the AI seasons. It's nice to see it so close for a change!!!! GL to everyone next week :)

American public?I hear a selfish nation.....the world is tune in for Adam this season, and he have to fight this crap popularity thing.Bold and dazzle, and if you don't embrace him,UK will....he is popular ,and forever reason we want to form an opinion. If everybody talks about you....whoa...you gonna sell....money follow you everywhere.I don't think smart "moneypeople" gonna let this go.Hollywood?Over the top?Theatrical? That's all you about. So stop complaining,Adam loves to perform, entertain, that's his life!!!!Be happy ,you have his brilliance!!! Oooo .....wait.........he is not just yours anymore.......half of this planet tune in so get a grip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

again, i cant tell what kind of album adam is going to make. hes so gothy/emo/theatre. i like him because hes original, but in terms of a marketable american idol, i think im going with allison or kris. i used to really like gokey, now im sort of blah. i liked matt a lot, sad to see him go

How can people find Adam so good??? He's awful, his performances are always similar (always shouting). All the rythms seem to be the same in his voice. Unfortunatelly, it seems that he's going to win, the jurours are tendentious, and I'm surprised to see Simon sharing the others opinion.

You people are nuts if you don't like Adam. How can you not? He's the best performer AI has ever had.
Posted by: Sarah | May 4, 2009 12:15 PM
Love you Adam. You are by far the best ever on AI. After you I will not even watch it anymore, Seacrest ticked me off so bad. What a nerve to treat you so shabby. I guess jealousy can make you do stupid things. If you don't win I know its all fixed and I am done.

I hated to see Danny go last night. I really did like the way he sings, with the soul he has. He is the best by far.
