'American Idol' results: Top 9 revealed
I thought American Idol was on at 9, 8 central. But NO. It started at 8 Eastern time, so I had to make a mad dash (well, drive) home from work, since I had promised Sarah I would recap the results show. Luckily, I have several friends who are fans; I called huge Kris Allen fan Kristine Marino for a big favor: Take AI notes for me till I get in front of my TV? She was happy to oblige:
Ryan Seacrest opens the show by talking to our four judges. He refers to Simon Cowell as Paula Abdul's school mate and asks what was going on with them last night. He said they should get a room. (Carla: Please don't put that image in my head, Mr. Seacrest.) Simon then clarifies that the president did not, in fact, invite him to dinner, and it was only a joke.
And now ... our Idols. The Top 10 sing a medley of Motown hits. They appear to be lip-syncing. It looks pretty cheesy. Then AI Season 2 winner Ruben Studdard sings. There's plenty of sweat on his head, and he's now a married man. (Carla: For me, Studdard and the soon-to-come Stevie Wonder just aren't as exciting as Kanye West and Kelly Clarkson.)
And finally ... we get some results.
Enter me, Carla. Thanks, Kristine!
I turn on the TV as Joss Stone and Smokey Robinson end a duet ("You're the One for Me"). I'm not too upset that I missed that. Kristine, however, adds that she loves Joss, who looked very pretty. She says the performance was a little awkward to watch, but Smokey sounded pretty good. (Apparently, this is a new song from his coming record.)
Next we learn that Allison Iraheta is safe. Good thing I voted for her about 70 times. Anoop Desai is safe ... although it sounds like Ryan is going to say otherwise. Next up is Danny Gokey. He's safe, too. America doesn't agree with Simon! (What a surprise.) It's down to Megan Joy not Corkrey and Scott MacIntyre. The person in trouble tonight is ... Scott!
When asked for input on the three in danger, Randy Jackson says Matt has rocked the mic consistently and doesn't deserve to be here. Simon says Matt and Michael are there because the public doesn't like them that much. Burn. I thought he'd say they were considering saving Matt. How could you not like Matt, America? Scott is told immediately that he is safe.
Next we have a Motown melody from Stevie Wonder. These shows are reallllllly drawn out.
We learn that Michael has the lowest number of votes. No big surprise there. It comes down to "singing for his life." He says: "I have to sing after Stevie! Oh, crap!" After he's done, the judges have NOT "decided" on his fate. Ryan reminds them that another show needs to come on. After a brief huddle, it's again no big surprise that Simon says Michael's rendition of "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" can't save him. He's eliminated. Daddy's going home.
What did you think of the results?

Comments
Thanks for the info. I live in Utah and it is still airing right now, so now I know the results, I love that, cuz my friends don't know and I can sit here with a big secret that they don't know. Awesome!!! But I do think Michael should go home tonight. Adam will win it!!

He was a natural American. Father and Husband, a good fit for the American Idol franchise, but couldn't sing with the rest.

Not surprised on who went. Hopefully we can get Scott and Megan to go next.
Did they announce the theme for next week?
I'm not sure if they announced one; Kristine didn't hear one, either. Anyone out there know? Thanks, CC

we are going to miss Michael, he was a lot of fun to watch and has lots of personality and wit.

Thanks for putting this up! I also thought it would be on at 9:00, so I missed it because I was watching Twilight! But really I am NOT complaining.
Anyways, I'm glad Michael went home. I've never thought he was very good. I'm rooting for Kris :)

The first minute into Michael's song, I knew he would be the one to go tonight and Matt will go next week or the week after!! I think Adam will be the last Idol standing!!

Matt Giruard? Bottom 3 you got to be kidding me. Wow What does Matt do that Anoop dosen't. First, play a instument. Secondly, has a moe unique performance. Also Megan Corkey sounded just like the judges said TRAIN WRECK
Posted by: brandi | March 26, 2009 9:45 PM
I really liked Michael's spirit and goodheartedness, but honestly it was really his time...and I have to say that my jaw hit the floor when they announced Matt in the bottom three. What?! He was awesome last night, topped only by Adam.
Posted by: Brook | March 26, 2009 9:47 PM
It is not surprising at all that Michael is gone. I cannot believe he even made it so far. Megan should go also (she remindes me of a singing goat...she is soooo horrible).
I absolutely LOVE ADAM!! He is soooo different, unique, original, creative, handsome, and he always outperforms everyone else. BRAVO!!! He rocks my world!!!

TELL ME THIS: WHY IS MEAGAN STILL ON THIS SHOW....SHE CAN NOT SING!! LOOKS SURELY WILL NOT GET HER TO THE END!!!!!!???
Perhaps people like her quirky voice; maybe it has something to do with her being the pick of votefortheworst.com? -- CC

Thank Goodness for the elimination tonight. I think Scott and Megan should pack their bags. Adam all the way baby! Number one fan right here.

how can scott be in the bottom 3???? and megan not be... she sounded like sheep!!!!

Thanks for your update. My DVR missed the last 5 minutes, so I didn't know for sure, but figured Michael would be gone.
Posted by: Myrna | March 26, 2009 10:07 PM
I kind of liked Michael....the one who should of gone is Meagen...and what's the name change for her? Meagen Joy? weird...she's gotta go....I'm voting for Danny...he's the one :)
She dropped Corkrey because it is her ex-husband's last name. Thanks for the comment! -- CC

i don't vote since I am in Canada but watch faithfully. I think the judges have more influence than people think because they love Megan and she gets the votes. I think she's terrible. My personal favourite is
Danny.

I am from Matt's hometown and have heard him sing multiple times. He is so much better live. Which is amazing considering that he sounds (and looks) so good on tv. I can't believe he was in the bottom 2. I tried like crazy to vote for him last night. I only got through once because is was busy the rest of the time.
Posted by: Julie | March 26, 2009 10:23 PM
Thanks for the recap! My DVR caught off the last few minutes and I was left hanging. Not very surprised by their decision, but def surprised Matt was in the bottom three!

Michael is a nice guy and all, but geez, learn a couple of moves, will ya. Megan I think, is quirky and cute, but the reason she's still there is the good girl/bad girl thing. And, she has that Winehouse/Adele uniqueness with her voice. Can't keep a beat tho!
The most disappointing thing about your comments was dismissing Stevie! He's never sounded better and is truly a legend. A real musician's musician...
Full disclosure: I definitely was playing catch-up with the show since I was so far behind. I'll rewatch Stevie! Thanks for commenting! -- CC

I really did like Michael. He reminds you of your talented cousin or something. Such a nice guy, and he really did try hard. I thought he done well, but just out of his league. I can't understand how some of you think Adam will win this. I will give him being the last of two provided he keeps coming strong, but wake up people, it's time for Lil Rounds. She is the next American Idol. Don't under-estimate her. She has not quite brought everything she has in her arsenal yet!

tks for let us know I was working
anyways since Michael first perfomance soon he was one of 36 he was so arrogant and proud of himself I do not like that. Looks like that he is christian and if I am right he suppose to be more humble but not always he answer back to Simon - and let so clear I am good enough - now he knows that he was wrong! sorry if somebody did like my comments..

Does anyone know the name of the last Stevie Wonder song performed by him tonight? Thanks
Posted by: Anonymous | March 26, 2009 10:59 PM
I liked Megan the first time I heard her on the auditions, but her voice is getting annoying especially her dance. She keeps wiggling and shakin' her breasts to cover up her awkward moves......that has to stop! Scott might not be that good 'cuz of lack of experience or exposure (but what can he do?) but he's still my idol for all the effort that he puts in the show and the positive attitude. I know Adam, Allison, Matt and Danny are the best, no doubt about that! Thanks for the update, My son had a family night at school I had to go to....spent an hour searching for the result on the internet and finally saw ur blog:))
Posted by: Carla | March 26, 2009 10:59 PM
LOVE Allison, she is fantastic! I've already bought her songs on iTunes. Then I love Adam. Then, hm, maybe Danny. The rest bore me.
Posted by: PaloAlto | March 26, 2009 10:59 PM
One of the judges referred to a constestant as being "below par" last night (probably Simon) and at this point in the competition there are several contestants who in my opinion, are below par: Michael, Scott, and Megan. . Danny is fantastic but he needs to step it up. Need something "exciting" or "original" from him if he wants to compete with Adam. Anoop has great vocals but I can't ever see him winning this competition. Just not feeling it with him. ADAM IS HOT HOT HOT.

APPROPRIATE.
Posted by: kittenkiss | March 26, 2009 11:04 PM
Top 3 :
1. Adam
2. Megan
3. Kris Allen
Adam and Megan is the most ORGINAL singer ive seen so far in whole 8 season. Adam's range and repertoire reminds me of "The rock show". He is superb talented and Megan, other than making every song so "Megan" shes the nest most original singer which is purely unique.
Among the other bunch they Kriss seems to be the sincere one and everyone else is what you could heard on radio everyday.
American Idol is to choose someone thats UNIQUE, different from what's playing on air everyday.
WORST :
1. Danny Gokey
- I dont get anything from this average singer and i still dont get it why hes still there. Getting over pampered by the judges is all that i can see. I would not spent a single penny voting for his rubbish. lol

i think adam should be out of the show

Thanks for the info, I just turned on my tv to watch the results at 9 and hells kitchen was on. I missed it. I am just happy there were finally a bunch of boys in the bottom 3 for once, although I was surprised that Megan was not in the bottom. I liked Michael but am not too disappointed to see him go.
Posted by: Robin | March 27, 2009 12:27 AM
I hated to see Michael go but it was probably was his time. I really feel this compitition will come to the final two being Danny and Adam, both of which are fabulous. My choice to represent is Danny. I dont think he has come far due to any sympathy. He is an excellent performer who has a tru love for music. His faith has brought him far and his calling is to be a performer. I am sure his wife is watching from above and is very proud of him. Adam is a great performer also but I feel Danny has a true deep heart and feelsthis is what he is meant to be doing. My call is Danny all the way and I am proud to say that. Good luck to you Danny, really need to step iit up and knock simons socks off. We know you can do it.

Anyone else think Lil Rounds hair last nite was done by Frankenstein ?
Allyson rocks - but rockers usually don't win AI.
Posted by: Hurlingmud | March 27, 2009 1:03 AM
ok i've read some of the comments and really what's with the "megan should go!!" and stuff I mean she might not be the greatest singer ever but she go that something that makes her stand out and be f'n unique!!
adam winning? yeah maybe he's good and kinda hot lol
Posted by: panic kitty :] | March 27, 2009 1:26 AM
Anyone else think that they should just drop the "group songs"? I'm personally really tired of the lip-synching. If you can't sing it live, then don't do it.
Posted by: Chris in KS | March 27, 2009 7:22 AM
No surprises. Next week Lil Rounds is outta here. Stevie Wonder blew me away! Megan still for me, is a force to be reckoned with, she has millions of fans, and I am one of them
Posted by: Ray Barcia | March 27, 2009 9:20 AM
Did anybody but me notice that Megan appeared to be in pain or about to pass out when she was cheering for Stevie Wonder right after his performance?
Posted by: gia | March 27, 2009 10:53 AM
If Megan were an ugly girl, I doubt she'd have so many "fans." She is terrible.
Sarver was fair, but he was not nearly as bad as Megan the trainwreck. If she beats out legitimate talent such as Allison, Adam, Anoop or Danny, I'm going to boycott this show forever.
Posted by: GBA1 | March 27, 2009 11:08 AM
I really think "Vote for the Worst" is the only thing keeping Meaghan in this competition. She's gorgeous, but she can't sing and she has the worst stage presence/rhythm of anyone I've seen on there in a long time.
Although I don't really care for his style, I do think Adam is the most consistently interesting and commercially viable finalist at this point.

matt giraud deserves to be in the TOP 3 not the bottom 3. what the hell america? megan and scott need to go next, and matt needs to stay around at least til the top 3.
Posted by: sidd | March 27, 2009 5:12 PM
I was H O R R I F I E D that Matt Giraud was in the bottom 2. Now, I know that I've got to get voting and will hope that other Matt fans can help keep him around, too... He was so good Tuesday... Aaaargh!

at this point Megan Corkrey keeps advancing either because she's extremely cute, or because votefortheworst.com is making it happen
Posted by: coffee | March 28, 2009 2:19 AM
I'm from Australia, so unfortunately I don't get to vote. If I could have voted, it would have been for Adam Lambert. He looks a bit like Elvis trying to audition for The Cure - which is weird but somehow it works. He reminded me a bit of Chris Isaak vocally this week - but I wouldn't wanna type cast him yet. I like Danny second best but mostly because he reminds me of Robert Downey Jnr - but he's getting a bit predictable/boring vocally. He needs to mix it up a bit. As for the eviction, how come Scott MacIntyre is still in the competition? I don't get it. I certainly thought Michael was better than him. And as for the judges having the ability to save, did that look manufactured or not this week? I'm starting to think that the whole thing is a con. They're not gonna save anybody. So why torture the contestants that way? That's cruel. Anyway, that's my two cents worth. Cheers. Sasha

Adam has star quality, but I think judges prefer Matt. Why I don't know. Allison is a great singer, but marketable? A makeover might be in her future. Scott--nice ballad voice but no. Danny--I don't think so. Meganthetattoogirl--yikes! She should enter a beauty pageant, not a singing competition. Kris might have appeal to tween-agers, but Simon doomed him in week one with his comment that he should have kept "the wife" hidden. Matt is the one; but Adam might be the Clay Aiken or the Jennifer Hutson of this competetion--not winning but selling!
Posted by: Steve | March 29, 2009 10:37 AM
I like Megan. She has a very original style. I even like her little wiggle though it was awkward at first. I don't believe she can win and maybe it is her time to go. Honestly I would rather see her go then stay on because a bunch of idiots vote for her because they think she sucks. She is no Sanjia!
Posted by: gia | March 30, 2009 10:52 PM
I'm very happy Megan is gone....personally I think Simon had it right when he said 'we just don't care about you'....she's a spoiled, inconsiderate, mannerless child who deserved to go home long ago...they kept her alot longer than most of us would have liked....frankly Megan, we don't give a damn....
