Happy birthday to us!

So how about that? Three years ago today, I wrote the first post for this blog, Reality Check. At the time, there were only a handful of Sun blogs, but I decided to dive in and see what happened. It's been a fun ride, sometimes quite a bit busier than I expected, but always a good time.

Anyway, how shall we celebrate? I thought about making a cake, but I spent the evening taking care of a feverish baby, so that's not happening. Plus, it would tough to pass out slices over those crazy tubes that make up the Internet.

Instead, let's get geared up for Tuesday's American Idol premiere with a little look back. What are your favorite songs (not performances, but singles released after the show) by any Idol finalists?

Share your favorites in a comment below, and you'll be entered in a drawing for a Reality Check prize package. (Still working on the specifics of that, but rest assured, it will be worth the effort of typing a little.) Winner will be chosen by the extremely scientific process of writing the names on slips of paper and picking one out of a paper bag. So that means if you want to be in the running, include your email on your comment. It doesn't publish, but I will be able to see it.

I'm a sucker for a good pop song, so I'll sing along (alone in the care) any time to Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone" or Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats." But I'm going to suggest Elliott Yamin's "Movin' On." Here's a clip:

So have at it! What's your favorite single? A Daughtry track? A Clay Aiken song? Let me know!

Hmmm. My fave is probably Since U Been Gone with Carrie Underwood's cover of I'll Stand By You (released for Idol Gives Back) a close second. Followed by almost anything released by Daughtry. I wish I could include Bo Bice in here but with that crap he was forced to put out after he came in second, he never had a chance. :(

Wow, you made it back just in time for the birthday celebration, Sarah.

I vote for Carrie and "Before He Cheats".

Now, if you stretch it a bit, my very favorite song that has any connection to the Idol franchise is the cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" by Kurt Nilsen, Alejandro Fuentes (both winners of Norwegian Idol), Askil Holm and Espen Lind.

Jason Castro's performance of "Hallelujah" was also one of my favorites from last season. I bring that up only because, while you were gone, Sarah, we determined that Jason Castro makes John-John go GACK!

Love Elliott Yamin! Thanks for the memories. I'm looking forward to his sophomore CD!

I nominate "Breakaway" by Kelly Clarkson

Elliot is great but.. I have to say, the best release for me is Kelly Clarkson's duet with Reba on 'Because of You.'

SKK: Oh, that's a good one, too, with the added bonus of knowing that Reba is Kelly's idol and how unbelievable it must have been for her.

Your probably going to think this is crazy, but my favorite single by an Idol winner is kelly Clarkson's "Walk Away." It is probably not her most recognized work, but it has a good beat.

Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats" is a close second for me.

Does "She Bangs" by William Hung count? ;-)

Thank you for letting us post about our favorite singer. Without this site, it would be really difficult to share the latest news about them.

She's not "our favorite singer." I used to like her. Then you started shilling for her here.

Sarah Kickler Kelber, an editor in the features department since 1999, got sucked into reality TV with the first episode of MTV's The Real World in 1992. Then came Survivor and American Idol, and suddenly, the genre was everywhere.
