'Big Brother 10': Dan buries the hatchet, wins HOH
Here's another Big Brother 10 update from guest blogger Patrick Gutierrez.
With the house down to the final four and Dan as HOH, no one can feel safe this week, not even his alliance partner, Memphis. It doesn't matter whom Dan nominates, someone is going to win the POV, and that person will have all the power because he is the lone vote during the eviction ceremony.
To pass the time, the house engaged in a mysterious luxury competition for a trip outside the house. The prize promised to potentially "change the game." The instructions for the game were found in an envelope underneath a sumo wrestler who had suddenly appeared inside the house while the players were outside battling for HOH.
Dan was the first one to notice the envelope; he snatched it after the wrestler stood up. He read the instructions to the rest of the house guests.
The game was held outside, where there were several displays set up. The players were awakened at the game's outset by a person in a gorilla outfit, which turned out to be Jessie. The gorilla led the players outside for the competition.
The goal was to decipher a common phrase based on one or more of the displays. There was a three-hour time limit, and each house guest was allowed three guesses. The first person to figure it out would win a trip to a remote beach locale for a day. As time elapsed, decoy displays were covered up, making it easier to solve the riddle. Jerry was the first one to venture a guess, but it wasn’t even close. Keesha went next with her first guess, but she was also incorrect. Jerry tried again but to no avail. After an hour and a half, Keesha tried another guess, "Blew it," based seeing on a blueberry and the word 'it" on top of a hatching egg. She was wrong. Dan guessed "Bury the hatchet." Memphis went after him and guessed "fruitless exit" but knew that wasn't it.
At the end of the three hours, the house guests were summoned inside by the gorilla, who made a familiar noise that tipped them off to his identity, but he disappeared before they could confront him. Dan was announced as the winner and was privately told he could take a house guest or a jury member with him on his trip. He chose to take Michelle but told the house he wasn't taking anybody.
Before the nomination ceremony, Dan and Memphis pondered their options. In the end, they decided it would be better to keep Keesha temporarily safe by not nominating her. She fell for it, thinking that meant Dan would be more likely to take her to the end then Memphis.
It now comes down to the final POV competition.
Thoughts: Not nominating Keesha was a smart move by Dan. If she doesn't win the POV competition and ends up going home, I don't think she'd be as resentful toward him. Even if Dan wins the POV and takes Memphis off the block, it will be Memphis sending her home.
If Jerry wins the POV, Memphis is toast for not getting Dan out the house when Jerry was HOH. If Keesha wins it, Jerry is likely going home.
