'American Idol' results: Top 3 revealed
Will Jason Castro finally get the boot on tonight's American Idol? Only time (about 59 minutes worth) will tell.
Host Ryan Seacrest says nearly 51 million votes came in, and that the top three were all within a million votes of one another.
The group sing (tonight, to "Reelin' in the Years") looks even sillier, choreography-wise, with so few people left.
Results: David Archuleta comes out first, and I wish they would stop making him talk. He's safe, by the way.
Then there's a bit on the final four's trip to see Love in Vegas.
More results: David Cook gets called forward, and he, too, is safe. Syesha Mercado and Jason Castro come out, and Jason asks if Ryan is really going to tell them already (since it's only like 24 minutes into the show). Ryan says no. (And again, he never said this was the "bottom two." Just that one of them is going home.)
After their Ford commercial, the contestants look suitably embarrassed.
Viewer questions. That's all I have to say about that.
Maroon 5 performs a song from 2007, which is far more current than what the contestants have had to work with this season.
Then season four's Bo Bice performs his new song "Witness."
Finally, the last of the results: Jason says that someone told him last night that he shot the tambourine man, which is kind of funny. He also says that he thinks his inexperience is starting to show this late in the competition. Syesha is safe, and Jason is going home. Whew. I think even he would have thought it was a travesty if he had stayed.
Ryan says he seems relieved, and Jason says he is because next week, it's three songs, and he doesn't know what he would have done. He sings out with "I Shot the Sheriff," and it's all over.

Comments
I don't think I've ever seen a contestant so relieved to be going home.

Wow. Insightful comments into the show. Which I saw with my own eyes. And you get paid to write this? Amazing! How DO you do it???
SKK: It's a recap, so if you missed it or it didn't air in your time zone yet or your VCR cut off or you got distracted during the middle 10 minutes and wanted to see what happened or whatnot, you can catch up. Thanks for reading!

I really thought Jason lasted as long as he should have. He was so cute and personable tonight and he knew he was gone I am sure. I guess we'll be down to David's nex week. Syesha is great, but I don't think she can beat either of these two guys. That is unless David C. does what he did last night. His heart didn't seem to be in it. I was afraid he wasn't feeling good again or that his brother was getting worse. He said he had just a really wierd day, and he couldn't shake what ever was bothering him at show time. Any way, I think we'll have good finale on the 20th, but I don't think David C can beat David A although I wish he could.

Well, I guess Fox is very happy that Castro is gone. But why were they so mean to him. It seems that they really had something against him.
Simon comments were atrocious. Not a care in the world for the person who is staring alone in front of 28 million people. There is a way to tell someone he is not good without being so rude. Castro with David Cook will be the best CD seller. Our hearts are with Jason tonight.

I thought it was fascinating that during the break just BEFORE the elimination announcement, Fox45 ran its news teaser with a photo of Jason and the voice over saying, "Did America get it right?"

It's about time he was sent home. Sweet kid and all, but not an American Idol. I can't believe he outlasted some really talented contestants, like Carly and Michael.

Only 2 of the last 3 were correctly guessed by me. The other one I guessed was shockingly voted off few weeks ago, Michael Johns. Anyway, here goes, Ive been right for the last 3 seasons, let's see if I'm right again this year. This year's American Idol is David Archuleta. David Cook is a great singer with great vocals, but Archuleta is more diversified in terms of types & style of songs performed, that is what the competition needs as opposed to the one (1) styled "rocker" David Cook.

Two words: Thank goodness.

All I can say is Hallelujah! It's about time that we said bye-bye to Jason. Talk about lack of stage presence!

"...and it's all over." Yep, Sarah, you got that right. Catch you over on the Survivor blog...that one still has some drama left to play out.
Thanks for your work here this season. Your blog has become "appointment internet" for me on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Thanks, Bucky! I appreciate your reading and your comments.

David A has to be the most BORING idol contestant this far into it. Last year Melinda was criticized for looking for stunned each week but no mention to David A. I agree that they should stop asking him questions - it is so awkward when he has absolutely nothing to say. Boring speaker, boring singer. All the tweens are voting to keep him in. I would never buy / download any of his music. Snore.

I was actually going to predict that Syescha was going to go because it seems like whatever I predict is wrong. And I really thought that it was Jason's time to go. According to an article in the magazine EW, he was ready to go home.

Is there any way we can vote Paula Abdul off the show? She adds no value to the show. She constants repeats all of her comments to each and every contestant and would have positive comments to say about even the worst musical offender. If I hear one more time about the contestant making a "smart" choice, I'll shoot her through the TV. Get another judge PLEASE!
