'American Idol': And the final two are ...
Tonight, we'll learn who the final two are on American Idol. I think a lot of us have a pretty good idea who it's going to be (and who the producers want it to be), but let's see how it goes.
They kick it off with a group sing to "Ain't No Stopping Us Now." The background singers seem to have a pretty big role in this one, but that's OK. I wish they wouldn't make them dance, but I guess they need to be ready for the tour.
Before introducing a recap of last night, host Ryan Seacrest says that 56 million votes were cast.
Then Fantasia comes out to sing. (Hey, she was in Baltimore singing on Sunday.) The expression on Simon's face during this performance is priceless.
Then, results time, sort of. David Archuleta is called out from backstage so he can watch footage from his visit home, which looks pretty darned overwhelming. He says "gosh" about 100 times, but then he kind of laughs at himself about it afterward. Then they show his "journey through Idol" video, which they are doing with everyone this evening. Syesha Mercado comes out to see her video from her trip to Sarasota and her "journey" video. She's also overwhelmed by the support of her fans in her hometown. Then, it's David Cook's turn. He tells Ryan he originally went to Idol auditions in Omaha to support his little brother Andrew's efforts. But next thing he knew, he had a camera in his face, and he was trying out. Little brother doesn't seem too bitter about it, though.
After the break, results time, for reals: The final two are David Archuleta and David Cook.
Not a big surprise, but Syesha did a pretty fantastic job setting herself up for a career after this show.
What do you think about the final two?

Comments
I don't usually watch the results shows, I just follow along online and enjoy the "clever" comments. After watching tonite and realizing what a huge moment this is for the contestants, I feel small and mean about some of the posts I have made. I wish these 3 great success on the tour and hope that they never lose the joy this experience has brought them.

They both suck. Archuleta is annoying as hell and Cook already had an album that bombed. What? We need to hear another album by him that will tank as well?

The producers got what they want. I had to miss the show this week, and probably won't bother next week, either. The rest of the family stopped watching two weeks ago. Life goes on.

Good results. The two finalists predicted from the begining. Both so different. Both very talented. This has been a great season for American Idol.

I live in California. I just decided I would cheat and find out the results early. Both Davids sing very well. The results were correct. In my opinion Syesha should have gone a while back. She will get a contract with some studio, I am sure. Both Davids are great. I say David Cook will win next week. David A, just needs to mature. In a few years his voice will be better. Also maybe they could shove his dad in a closet somewhere so that David can actualy speek for himself. I think he might have a different taste in music than daddy. GO DAVID COOK meg

What in the world happened to Fantasia Barrino? She performed as though she was in a club. this is a family show with kids in the audience shaking her but and twisting all over the stage with her x-rated back up girls, was awful and the look on Simeon's face pleads my CASE!

Of course, Syesha is gone. She's the best singer by 100 miles, very beautiful and has been the obvious " Idol" for months. No matter these days.
Oh well, they voted Ruben in, didn't they?
You're right, the judges almost told everyone not to vote for her. Too bad.
David Cook is irritating.
The only candidates with any kind of distinctive style and sound are long gone.

My son owns a bar on campus and you can hear David Cook sound-a-likes every Friday and Saturday. I hope David Archuleta wins so he can
work with a professional record producer like Clive Davis and earn the
stardom he deserves. On 97.9 they
played his second song against the
original and you couldn't even tell the
difference. Go David A.

Wow...we didn't see THAT coming...

I think Archy's cute-schtick is wearing thin. Cookie should win by a landslide.

I love david archuleta he is the best david cook is so cocky. I hope he wins his voice is amazing. David Cook is good too but David Archuleta is so humble and does it for the music rather than fame.

I hope David A wins. He has consistantly been the one to beat and I think he still is. He has a great voice. He is young and this will just set him up for life, if his Dad handles it right. Hats off to Dad. David is just 17 and I think it is great for his family to take care of him. Dad has been allowed backstage all this time, so why change it now.

Archuleta is a great role model of what a teen should be, he is talented, sweet, and humble.
I hope he wins.
If not,David Cook is a good second choice.

David A. might have a good voice, but he has no charisma and is generally annoying. (A great drinking game is to drink whenever he licks his lips while singing.)
For those in Baltimore (ages 8-18) interested in auditioning for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's version of American Idol, check out the below link for more information. The winner will sing the national anthem with the BSO at Oregon Ridge Park July 3-5, in front of 15,000 and some people.
