'American Idol': Top 10 trimmed to nine

It's that time again, and somebody is going to get cut on tonight's American Idol results show.

To celebrate the week's theme ("The Year They Were Born"), the contestants' group song is "Right Back Where We Started From." I was wondering how they would handle that.

But we're here for the results, so here we go:

Chikezie comes out on stage and finds out he's in the bottom three right off the bat. He is not surprised.

Brooke White is safe.

Carly Smithson addresses the fact that there are some pregnancy rumors, which she says are not true. She tells Simon that he was right that she had something on her mind during her performance last night -- she was wearing Spanx (that's body-shaping hosiery for those of you not in the know) and trying to look a little thinner. Anyway, she is safe, and she is relieved.

David Archuleta is safe.

David Cook is next. Ryan says he talked to Chris Cornell today and he loved David's take on Chris' take on "Billie Jean." Also, he is safe.

Syesha Mercado is in the bottom three.

Michael Johns: safe.

Before the last few finalists find out their fate, it's viewer question time. Sarah (not me, I promise) wants to know whether Chikezie is single. He says he is "very, very single." Nicole wants to know why David Archuleta chose "You're the Voice" last night out of all the songs from his birth year. He says because it's one of his all-time favorite songs. Ari asks Simon what she needs to do "to take Ryan Seacrest's job." Simon says the good news is, you don't need a lot of talent, so everyone has a chance. Caitlin wants to know who Brooke would duet with if she could pick anyone. She says John Mayer. Vanessa asks Simon whether he considers himself the "most attractive person on the show and why." He responds, "It's not what I say, it's what other people say." And then he cracks up.

Season 2's No. 3 finisher Kimberley Locke talks about her experiences since the show. Besides the singing, she's a part-owner of a restaurant outside Manhattan. She also talks about her weight-loss journey (she's lost about 40 pounds in the past year), and says she's working on her second CD. Then, it's singing time.

Back to the results. Ramiele Malubay is safe. Which leaves Jason Castro and Kristy Lee Cook. Ryan adds that he heard from Lee Greenwood, who loved Kristy's performance last night. Kristy is safe, and Jason is in the bottom three.

Jason, Chikezie and Syesha gather on the stage to find out their fates, and Jason promptly finds out he is safe. After a break and some squabbling from the judges, it's finally revealed: Syesha is safe, and Chikezie is going home.

He reprises last night's performance, and that's all for this week.

I'm not surprised -- if not this week, I think he would have been out soon. What do you think of the results?

I'm surprised that Ramiele was not in the bottom 3. I thought Chikezie was a better singer than her. But I guess it is just a matter of time for her also.

wish it was kristy...

IMO the bottom 3 should've been Ramiele, Chikezie and Jason, with Ramiele going home. She should've been long gone by now.

I'm not really surprised, but I'll miss Chikeze more than I'd miss Syesha.

I think Chikezie is wonderful and I am so sorry he was voted out. I did not get to vote last night. To me, he is one of the top ones, and so are all of the bottom 3, to my ears.
I would have thought Chikezie could make it to the top 5 at least.
He is fantastic, wonderful, I love his voice and performances and personality.

The best part about this blog - I don't have to sit through the whole show to find out who goes home. I live on the west coast, so this adds minutes to my real life. Thanks! Bye, Chikezie. You were fun to watch, but you weren't going to win the whole thing. And Kristy, it's only a matter of time before you get the boot.

I am surprised about Syesha being in the bottom 3. 2 weeks ago I thought she might go, but she has improved each week. I did figure Jason and Chikezie would be on the bottom, though.

I would have liked to see Chikezie stay :( Oh well, he'll still make it big. I think Ramiele should have gone home weeks ago!

Chikezie was great -- maybe not the winner but definitely had a few more weeks in him.
Kristy must go. Here is my order to leave the show
next week: Kristy
and then Jason
Brooke
Syesha
followed by: Michael Johns

and then it will be a toss up between Carley, Ramiele and the 2 David's! I think David Archuleta will be the final winner. Thoughts?

Unbelievable. Kristy Lee Cook should have been removed weeks ago. Her vocals are terrible compared to the others.

This is my 1st season to really watch much. I'm sort of surprised by the results tonite but honestly I thought Chikezie
was "Chi Cheezie"

I think this year is a guys year and David Cook is awesome,so he should be the new american idol.

I think that America has given Kristy Lee Cook too many opportunities. She should have been gone a long time ago. She is a pretty girl but pretty only gets you so far.

I was surprised about Chikezie - he was very likable and had talent. I thought Syesha being in the bottom 3 was ridiculous...she is top 5. Bottom 3 should have been Ramiele, Jason, and Kristy, with Ramiele going home.

I'm glad Carly is safe and NOT in the bottom 3, especially she is in the top 3, Spanx or not. Wooooo!

Thank, God! Kristy is sooo lucky she picked the song she did...she should have been gone a long time ago (well before the Top 12)!

I have hated this season and I have been a die hard fan since season one. No one has wowed me this year.
But what really did it for me was Randy's criticism of Chikezee (spelling) OLD school soul singer? Like that is a bad thing? Throw back? The genre was from the year the "IDOLS" were born!!! That makes the song old!! I am done with this show. I think the contestants on Don't forget the lyrics" are better than what I have seen this year on IDOL

Ramiele Malubay and Kristy Lee Cook should've been eliminated by now. Specially Ramiele

Why are all the no talent girls staying on and the people that are actually great being kicked off!!!!! I just don't understand it this season!! First Carly was in the bottom 3 and now Chikezie was voted off! If it wasn't for the fact that I really like Carly and want her to win.... I think I would just stop watching this season because its really getting me angry at the show, or should I say the voters!!

kristy needs to go... i can't beleive she wasn't in the bottom 3. Jason does not belong there... chakezie was going to go... just thought it'd be later than sooner.

I really appreciated the play-by-play. I missed the show, but feel like I saw it after reading your blog. Thanks!

SKK: Glad to help!

It doesn't surprise me that Chikeze was sent home but I really thought if it came down to performance, Ramiele should have been sent home. And Kristie should have been in the bottom 3, not Jason.

This is the best year for AI

I am disappointed at the lack of respect shown towards an Australian singer such as John Farnham after one of his songs was sung by David. He is a legend here in Australia. American Idol would be lucky to have him pay a visit and sing for them.

The people certainly got this right. Chikezie is a wonderful person, but not sufficiently creative. Jason has his "cutes," but also has a laizze-faire attitude that does not sit well with me. Jason's singing is not outstanding - just pleasant. Syesha has a great voice, but is not using it properly or completely, at this time. My pick for the top three: David Cook; Brooke White; and either Michael Johns or Kristy Lee Cook. I think that Kristy has tremendous talent and presence. Kristy should be a recording artist, whether or not she makes it through this ordeal. David, oh, David. I am not a fan, David. However, a very good voice, indeed. He has power and control. I do not care for his choice of compositions. He needs to mature. Well, that's my nickel on this one.

all of them actually showed what they've got. they all have their niche' as Paula would often say but it's a popularity show and niche' is not the only thing matter. wake up call for jason and syesha again. ramiele should do it better than this week otherwise she might be next. kristee lee cook obviously got the symphaty of american people by her genius choice of God bless USA. she needs to prove something more next week.

Yeah, I agree. Now its a matter of getting Kristy Lee Cook voted off, she is safe for another week, but only because she actually had a good performance, but I don't think she can top that!

I think it was time for him. Good POST !

Here’s my take. The last 3 standing will be Michael Johns, David Archuleta & David Cook. After that its too difficult for me to guess who’s gonna be the next Idol. They are all flawless. Both Davids however have a slight edge over Michael cos they are both a bit original when it comes to singing as opposed to Michael who just does Queen songs exactly like they should be sung. Whatever it is, am sure all three will be releasing records by the year end just like Chris Daughtry.

First of all, David Cook robbed Chris Cornell's version of Billie Jean. And David is no Chris Cornell. David Cook is highly overrated and could never stand in Chris' shoes.

I think America got it right. I love Chikezie but when it came down to it this is probably what should have happened. I was surprised to see Syesha in the bottom 3 but knew she would be safe. All the girls love Jason so I knew he wouldn't be going home either. My personal favorite is David Archuleta.

No surprise on this end. Chikezie was simply too dull to compete with the popular set. (Let's face it, people - it's a popularity contest, NOT a true talent contest.)

Now we have to endure the tedious shows over the next X number of weeks until we whittle it down to the best show: Top 3. We have to slag through watching Remiele go, and Sayesha, and Jason (who looks like he's always suffering a mad case of the munchies), and life will taste sweet when that little Kristy gets the boot.

But who will be the 'ol Top 3? Hmmmm...judging by the SHRIEKS from the audience, that little gasping Archuletta might be one of them...and I think Carly will probably be there, too...I predict David Cook will go the way of Daughtry to get him into the studio (and a modified contract) sooner than the winner, so he'll be the big "SHOCKER!" elimination sometime around week 5 or 6. I think Nigel & Co. is salivating over him and praying for another blockbuster hit-maker like Daughtry. Not sure he's up to that caliber, but I still think he's one of the more talented contestants on this very, very dull season.

So let's kick back and watch them fall like flies under the tutelage of such 'greats' and Dolly Parton and Neil Diamond. (B-List anyone?) Oh, and my prediction for Andrew Lloyd Weber week: Carly does "I Don't Know How to Love Him" just to get that glory note in there. You know I'm right...

Next week: goodbye Remiele. Please?

With the serious lack of talent this season, I am not surprised to see anyone go home at anytime, although I was surprised to see Syesha in the bottom 3. Chikezie was simply corny. He had no identifiable style. Most AI contestants fall in one category or another, either they are crooners, soul singers, song belting divas, rockers, pop singers, country singers, etc. And the most enjoyable part of watching AI comes from seeing how well the talented singers are able transcend to other genres. That was part of Chikezie's problem. You couldnt identify him with anything...he was all over the board and not really good at any. Kinda like the old saying...jack of all trades, master of none.

Who cares as long as the talent wins and not the popularity thing,
Keep It Real!!

People need to recognize when someone delivers a home run regardless of previous performances. Kristie hit a home run with "USA". Her voice was outstanding and Ryan and Paula both failed to recognize that. Simon did. The public apparently did as well, putting her in the top seven vote getters. Kristie previous song choices were her biggest problems. She should do well again next week with Dolly as I believe Dolly will recognize her talent. She won't win but she deserves a lot more respect than she has gotten from the judges (and I don't even like country music that much).

I feel badly for Chikezie as he provided a lot to this show. I believe he will have a future in singing. That being said I too believe Ramiele should have been in the bottom 3. Jason and Syesha's inclusion in the bottom 3 were a shock. I am rooting for both of the David's to make the finale with David Archuleta winning out.

So let's kick back and watch them fall like flies under the tutelage of such 'greats' and Dolly Parton and Neil Diamond. (B-List anyone?)

THAT is just plain ridiculous.

America got it right. Kristy has fought her way to this spot and I think American's are too quick to dismiss her. She has got awesome vocals if anyone will take the time to listen. Carrie Underwood got raked over the coals for her country style and look where she is now! I think we have only scratched the surface with Kristy and given the opportunity to sing something other than stupid Beatle songs - which can only really be done well by the Beatles themselves - she will rock our world! The one that's got to go is that other buggy-eyed blonde. No talent at all compared to Kristy - she just smiles more, that's all. And she can't dance worth beans - no natural rhythm at all.

Dolly Parton and Neil Diamond - B List??? That's absurd - they are LEGENDS!!!

I was sad to see Chikezie go this week. I agree that his song was a little on the boring side, but the last few weeks he has shown so much originality in his arrangements that I was really excited to see what was next...

For the win, I have my money on David Cook - he has made my jaw drop every single week. In fact, now that Chikezie is gone, they might as well just stop the show and give David the title. Everyone else is boring.

...stupid Beatle songs..

Now that, my friends, is more ridiculous and insulting than noting how Dolly Parton and Neil Diamond are far from "legends" and live nicely on the B-List as far as musical tutors are concerned.

This season is a joke.

That Kristy is a sly one---she knew if she sang the song that she did, she wouldn't get kicked off this week because it would seem unpatriotic not to put her through. She'll do OK in this business not because she has much talent, but because she knows how the game is played.

Jason is adorable and should NOT go home for a while! He has a different style that no one has heard on American Idol, and Kristy Lee certainly is horrible and should not be here at all!

When is someone going to recognize that David Cook is entertaining, but hardly a good singer? His performances are so predictable - he strips the songs of any melody and drags them down and out. Yuck. Just because the judges keep telling us he is good doesn't make it so.

I much prefer the other David. He has a great voice and a much more appealing personality.

i think we have the best contestant this season. everyone is unique in its own way. everyone has a great voice and its a treat to watch the show every tuesday night.

Ramielle is a very good vocalist so give her some love.

Jason and Chikezie deserved to be in the bottom three, but Syesha shouldn't have

Chikezie however brings a very "fun" element to the show which was why it was a pity to see him leave.

Kristy Lee Cook did have a fairly alright week, but after hearing her butcher 8 Days a week, I was forced to believe that this girl should go home.

Hopefully, she'll be gone by next week

Haha how cool, I was the one (Ari) who asked Simon about taking over as host on idol.

Now, I'm not at all doubting he has talent, BUT I am just not a fan of David Cook at all. I get a douchebaggy vibe from him, theres an arrogance that completely turns me off. I just think he's overrated and I can't wait to see what country week does to him. haha. But of course, he will take out the melody and make it into something you'd play at a funeral.

Alright, David Cook fans don't kill me. I do believe he has talent and will go far in this competition, just not my cup of tea.

My favorites: Carly, Brooke, Archie.

Syesha is also growing on me.

oh and a little self promotion here, check out my youtube channel my username is ivegotatheory!

Kristy needs to go. End of story.
