'American Idol': Down to 11
It's time for the first single cut on American Idol, where one of the 12 finalists will be sent packing.
Jim Carrey is there for some cross-promotion of this movie he is in, and he's also sitting so close to Ryan Seacrest's TelePromTer that it keeps sneaking into shots. Whoops!
Then Ryan announces that there was such a positive response to this week that they have changed next week's theme and are doing more of the Lennon-McCartney songbook. Why? No, seriously. Those amazing songs ate some of these kids alive, and it wasn't pretty. Why are we doing this again?
Before I can scream "whyyyyyyyy" for too much longer, the Top 12 come out for a cheesy group sing. It's Beatles, so the songs are good, but the dance moves? Cheesy.
Then, the contestants are in the hot seat ...
Ryan has Carly Smithson, Michael Johns, Syesha Mercado and Jason Castro stand. Carly is safe. So is Michael. As is Jason. Syesha, however, is in the bottom three. Randy and Paula say she should be safe, but Simon says she deserves to be in the bottom three. With that, she has to sing again.
Next, the contestants ruin the song "The Distance" with their commercial this week. Thanks, y'all.
Chikezie, Amanda Overmyer, Kristy Lee Cook and David Cook are asked to stand. Ryan calls Chikezie forward to see if he is sweating like last night and tells him he is safe. Amanda Overmyer: safe. David Cook is also safe. Kristy Lee Cook asks Ryan where her microphone is, but first, he has to go through all the judges' comments. He gives her the mike. She says, "I'm sorry you have to hear it again." I'm sorry, too. Again, it's not even really her voice. It's the viciously bad arrangement.
Then viewers call in with questions, and it is what it is.
Next up, Katherine McPhee comes out to sing George Harrison's "Something" accompanied by David Foster on piano.
Back to the results. David Archuleta, Brooke White, David Hernandez and Ramiele Malubay come to the front of the stage. David Archuleta is safe. Brooke White, also safe. Ramiele Malubay is safe, and David Hernandez is in the bottom three. He sings.
Syesha, Kristy Lee and David hit center stage. Ryan tells Syesha she is safe after dragging it out for a while.
First finalist ousted is: David Hernandez.

Comments
At least half of the me aren't named David anymore. I expected Cook to go before Hernandez though.

I cannot believe they are doing another week of Lennon-McCartney songbook. This is their idea of smart programming? Why don't they just have a Whitney-Celine-Stevie week instead? It could not be any worse. I thought the idea was to give the contestants a wide variety of genres to challenge their abilities. And who thought it was such a great idea in the first place? I honestly have little desire to see anyone sing music which is already iconic. How can we let them know it is a ridiculous and unfair idea?

What? No comment on how Kat Mcphee(ver) screwed up an integral lyric? Was no one there to tell her she is wrong at rehearsal? Is no one gutsy enough? Does no one else care? Poor George H. -He'd roll over in his grave if he cared about crap like AI.... too bad I care and had to wince everytime she said "I don't want to leave him now.
You know I believe him now." The last two words should be "IN HOW". **aaarrrrrrrgggggghhhh!!!!
Ooh, that is a bad one. I kind of spaced out during her performance, to be frank, and I didn't notice that at all. But yeah, someone should have mentioned it to her!

American Idol ......Simon what is wrong with you .....you might own the show or you might be worth millions and probably you could change the judges and mc when ever you wanted but you ll never have enough money to buy the affection and respect you probably lose everytime you tell Paula and your audience to shut up...yes i know people will say probaganda at it s best and i admit you are the best at that. You (if you have the [deleted]) should apoligise to paula and the audience you offended. on national tv...and also to your wonderful loving and caring mother...as we all know she didn t raise you that way.....lucky for you Dr Phil wasn t there he would have shown you how to be a gentleman towards a lovely lady like Paula....hey i think i have a great idea for a show Dr Phil versus Simon now thats a challenge our you up to it Dr Phil......this could be a changing day in Simon life..hope someone can contact Dr Phil with my idea ...MRBENBACON night club singer tv radio montreal canada

Kat botched her song (as she did for most of the AI season she was on), but luckily for her she is hotter than the combined heat of 1,000 suns so she can get away with it.
Unfortunately, there are no Kat McPheevers in this group and we have to judge them on their ability to butcher some of the greatest songs in Rock and Roll history. Yippee for us.
